like the features, setup was difficult for some of my devices (August Door lock, ruclips.net/user/postUgkxhB5YOMNj04GuoAosExygP4cH-dKeb4aB Bose speaker)... but all switches and outlets (5), thermostat, tankless water heater. Unfortunately all I can do is turn on/off Bose. It doesn't support volume or changing channels, but I believe that is due to the particular speaker I have.... Worth getting if you already have other devices to use it with... I don't sit around and ask Alexa questions much so that doesn't really matter to me....
I completely agree that this mediatek powered echo dot (4th gen) is definitely a worthy update. Reasonable price point and accessible features makes for a pretty decent deal. for consumers.
My grandma died about a year and a half ago. My mom couldn’t really get over it and she is usually listening to this one song. I decided to buy her one of these so she can listen to her songs and have someone to talk to while I’m gone. I originally wanted to get her something precious, specifically a music box that holds a picture and plays the music when you open the box and see the picture.
I got the dot for my birthday a couple of weeks ago. Great little piece of kit. I don’t use it a great deal for main music because I have a audio pro drumfire. But the assistant side a podcasts and background music. Really impressed. My first Alexa this is.
My Echo Dot 4 received firmware update tonight and it sound much better now - louder and more wide with better detail and bass. Sound quality improved a lot!! I had complains on sound before but now I'm blown away. It' also much more sensitvite for voice control even on loud volumes ... 😊
I think the upgrade to the spherical shape similar to the Apple Home Pod Mini (upside down) is quite cool and handy! and the integration of mediatek's AI tech also promises to make Alexa voice commands even faster , which makes the whole upgrade even better
I absolutely agree that this mediatek-powered echo dot (4th generation) is an excellent upgrade. A reasonable price point combined with easily available features results in a really good offer. for customers
The Amazon Echo Dot 4th gen is definitely a worthy upgrade from the 3rd generation especially in terms of the mediatek chipset and the spherical design. Alexa commands make it easier to work with it
I have my two dots connected to bluetooth speakers. There is just no way sound quality is going to ever get better in these tiny devices. The ability to AUX connect and Bluetooth connect is the best selling point.
I'm getting mine Saturday hope it's good I just kinda want it for songs and turning off my lights I don't really worry about asking questions just helping me around my house and listening to my favorite songs and podcasts
Great review! I haven't really seen a good audio comparison like you did as well as microphones. I think you covered pros and cons a bunch. Especially with the price drop of the 3rd gen and most of the prime day sales around it.
i like that the amazon echo dot lets u control ur smart home with a few voice commands, make calls, stream music and whatnot. plus the mediatek chipset inside really handles everything so smoothly.
I love the new feature as a bowling ball s well so funny! I don't see a need to upgrade right now and I ordered several 3rd Gens for $19 as gifts and several Echo Show 5s and 8s for gifts as well on Prime Day. I like the round design and the new audio quality but don't see it as a huge improvement. I might get one when they go on sale as they always do lol!
In the future I would love a more portable Echo, I would imagine a Echo Dot with a wireless charger so you can put it on a charge pad when you keep it on one spot but you can just pick it up and put it somewhere else whenever you want to
Interesting! I much prefer the 3rd gen design and being able to plug into plug/wall mounts, but that really was a big difference in sound... Maybe enough to sway me away from the temptation of the dirt cheap 3rd gens (but probably not!)
I just bought a 3rd gen and I love it . Like the shape to 4th gen not so much but it does sounds better. Let’s wait to see how 5th gen looks and sounds

Hey, something that might interest you. A couple of days ago my Amazon account was closed with no warning for after hours of wasted time they're telling me it's for excessive returns which I think is an error but that's beside the point. When they closed my Amazon account all my Amazon devices that I own for years primarily all my Echo devices stopped working. I lost access to the Amazon Photos and Prime Video which I pay for. So apparently the devices you already own are subject to be disabled by Amazon on your perceived shopping habits! I assume the same applies to all other Amazon devices and services like fire OS tablets, Ring cameras, and probably AWS as well. Just wanted to make other people aware of this because they definitely don't tell you this when you buy your hardware and services.
This is valid critism and a important thing for other people to see. For multiple reasons I have invested in a NAS with a total of 4 TB of storage which is plenty for all my videos and photo's.
I have both and I really can't tell much difference, but I don't use it nearly as much as this guy. 😆 I like the design of the 3rd gen better too. The kids versions are super cute tho!
Just got my echo dot 4th gen, upgraded from a 3rd gen. I actually prefer the more balanced sound of the echo 3 tbh. When playing music more loudly, the bass isn’t really any better 🤷🏻♂️
I'm looking to purchase several of these for our employees. Is there a feature that allows you to program custom messages that allows them to ask a command into their dot and it automatically plays the same recorded message for everyone? Such as "Alexa - What did Passco do this week?" and everyone's dot comes back with the same answer such as "Passco had a busy week! We acquired 2 new properties, raised a bunch money and won best company to work for".
I still have the 2nd generation and I have it bluetoothed to a soundbar and subwoofer. So sound is NEVER a problem. Plus I dont like fabric on the newer versions. Black hides well on top of my black entertainment unit too.
I use my "hooky puck" linked to my laptop/phone bluetooth as a sleep machine next to my bed and sometimes for an alarm (whenever it stays connected to the wifi). I works fine for my needs to sleep, I don't anything with too much bass.
I agree that it is definitely a worthy upgrade and I would consider this because of its compact size and its efficient features. The Mediatek chipset is definitely a good choice in this range.
I just ordered myself the Dianne von feurstenberg echo dot 4th generation. I haven't owned one before. But I use Bixby a ton, especially for my calendar and timers and stuff
If you have a echo dot 2 and want to upgrade, the 3rd and 4th gen don’t really do anything more than the 2nd, they just sound better. You can buy speakers that a gen 2 can sit in or you can use a cable to hook the 2nd gen in to at a lower Brice. Also it seems you can adjust the sound quality in the 3rd and 4th and possibly the second that can get better sound quality without buying anything new. Getting an upgrade is always nice, but at what price. How much can you afford, how many 2nd gen dots do you already have, and would it be better overall to buy less expensive speakers and just hook them up to your existing dot. I have the 2nd gen like so many and just bought one of those add on speakers. Cost less, sounds great and I can unplug that speaker and take my 2nd gen outside for up to 10 hours, less expensive models can get you 5, 6 and 8 hours of portability for your BBQs etc. If you need to add a dot because one of your older ones went bad or just need more for your home, then buying newer is great, as they have stopped production of the 2nd gen units. Reconditioned units are still available.
I just purchased my first fourth gen dot to replace a second gen and the improvement is quite remarkable! I’ll be upgrading the rest of the second gens as well. They are currently $20 during the Amazon prime day pre-sale. What I would like to know is how to get my security alerts broadcast over the whole system as opposed to having to set a routine for each individual device?
Same! I was on Amazon looking for something completely different and saw a ad for this being on sale and ordered it. I’m totally clueless but learning lol . Good luck to you with yours!
