Oh man... So great! I can't believe your luck with the net and in waders!!! I have been so worried about forgetting a crab measure that I bought a few extra, tied them with some paracord, and attached a carabiner to each one end so I could clip it onto my body and to my bucket handle. I also picked up some cool thick bucket handles that snap on the metal handle that have made a big difference (comfort wise) for my long walks with a heavy bucket. Thanks for the 'shout out' during your giveaway. That's one lucky winner! I hit Garibaldi crab dock (12th St) on Monday (10/3). Two pots went in at 5:45am. High tide was at a little after 8am and only hitting 5' 10". I only got 2 keepers in just under 3 hours. Both were hard shell but coming in at just 6 to 6.5" (nowhere near what I was hoping for) still, no complaints because the day was absolutely wonderful. There was a lot of small crab each time I pulled the pots. Almost no females at all. All of the shells were hard so that is a great sign. When the sun came up, the water was clear enough that I could see a mischievous harbor seal swimming just under the surface of the water. That seal stole the fish heads I had in my pots and turned them both on their sides! I managed to get them to sit correctly on the bottom but learned a valuable lesson about sticking to chicken only in the bays and maybe using fish for jetty crab snaring. The day was so wonderful with the low fog/overcast that I opted to head north to Nehalem Bay. I went into the state park, parked near the boat ramp there, and went out to try crab hawks and a snare. I caught three small females and lots of eel grass 😂 By the looks of your video, I should have ditched my poles/snares/etc and gotten into my hip waders to go out further to just catch them by hand (since I didn't have a net). I was hoping to be on a boat in Nehalem Bay and checking that off my bucket list but sadly my friend (with the boat) was under the weather. I managed to harvest 5 gallons of some very clear bay water from Nehalem Bay and hauled it back home. I boiled up the crab in some of that water and I will never cook them any other way now. The remaining saltwater got turned into fancy sea salt for other cooking endeavors. Let me know if you want some of the sea salt or some of my smoked salt (I'd love to share since your videos have taught me so much).
I'm glad you share your stories. Sounds like you have a great time out there. I've seen seals take chicken too in Bodega Bay, CA but haven't seen them take it up in the PNW. Appreciate the offer on the salt. I might take you up on that in the near future. Thanks. 🤙🏽
I barrowed the net from my buddy. Might be a minute for he is out of the country. I soon as he let's me know. I'll share that information with you. Thanks.
Hale, I just received the snares, they were probably here yesterday but my wife is afraid to drive the Ranger up to the mail box? I talked her into letting me drive today. I'm very impressed and already have a favorite. You make much better loops than I do! I will also be making my cage more like your design. For those that are not into snaring yet I would highly recommend using these snares!! Depending on your location the 8 ounce is about perfect. The 10 ounce if you have heavy surf or rip tides I can't wait to give these a toss!! Thank you very much. Gene
Hope you get out there soon. Speedy recovery. I had a great time exploring. I did learn though, the biggest, whitest and cleanest crabs don't necessary mean they have the most meat. Thanks for the comments.🤙🏽
Aloha, my husband and I just found your videos! So awesome, just subscribed... Didn't even know you could catch crab like that😲 We're planning a quick trip in either Aug/Sept... Last year we crabbed at Brighton Marina by boat which was Really fun! We'd love to try gathering in an estuary! What bay would you recommend we try our luck?
Siletz Bay in the town of Taft go 1 hour before low tide. Barview Jetty and Newport Jetty is best 1 hour before and 1 hour after peak high tide. Piers like Newport Municipal Pier, Bay Street Pier, in Newport are pretty good this time of year.
Anyone know where this would be? Ive been snaring and using rings, only 2 this year so far just a little over 5 3/4 i just want 3 damn big ones i dont need alot tired of not getting any crab after 6 hrs of sitting.
Lol...some people love it and some people don't like crabs. I love truffles and some people don't. I love blue cheese some people stick to cheddar. We are all unique in many ways and similar in many ways.
This area is by Tillamook. You could probably find someplace similar down south. Just look for shallow bays, sandy bottom with eel grass present. Just keep in mind, when the rain comes crabs tend to find saltier water for habitat especially when rivers flow into these bays. GL
@BackFishing thanks for the tips! Was your trip done 2 months ago or did you just happened to upload 2 months ago? Can't really remember the last time I've seen the water that low near the beach. Thanks!
@@awsomedude515 I time my outings 1 hour before a minus tide and this was mid September. The shells of the crabs were a bit soft but there were a few hard shells. Now later in the season, most of the crabs should be filled with meat in them now that we are in December. GL
If you not doing catch clean and cook and eating them because that's the reason why you catch them so by not showing any of these exciting parts your videos have nothing different to offer all crabing videos are the same
I've done the some catch n cook on other excursions but I'm 2 hours away from the ocean. I'm exhausted by the time I get home. Thanks for your comment. I'll consider cooking on site if time permits.
Hi Roman, I hope your understand but we don't give out any locations. All I can say is look at Bays and Estuaries. Listen to the hints on the videos. You will find them. Good luck. Salamat!!
@hunter4me xl I noticed a lot of these fishing youtubers do this. It's ridiculous. I live on the central coast, and to see these youtubers act like they can't reveal the locations makes me roll my eyes. Our entire economy here on the coast relies on tourism. Most of these youtubers don't even live in the PNW. K rant over

We'll be in the Tillimuck (spelling) Bay area in the middle of June. Please let me know. Do a video with a viewer.
Thanks for the Video , but NEVER put crabs in a bucket without getting them measured first .. Fish and Game will Ticket the pants off you for retaining illegal sized crabs ...even if you tell them you were going to release them later ...
Thanks. I had gage nearby. You have a point. It's in the regs. I own 4 gages and just happen to walk away from the car without it. Much appreciate the heads up.
I have crabbed off the docks in nehalem bay and lincoln city. Always walked off with at least 5. Nice sizes too….

We’re do you get those nets if you don’t mind me asking
I think my buddy got Fisherman's marine but Walmart has some nets all you have to do is make it longer. GL
HECK .. i didnt even know you could crab this way with a net...😮
It's pretty fun. I'm pretty sure people have done this for years.
Yeah, was thinking the barnacles were a sign of beauty full crabs, the "clean ones are MT"
💯💯🦀🦀 agree.
Can you please share where you got the net?
I barrowed the net from my buddy. Might be a minute for he is out of the country. I soon as he let's me know. I'll share that information with you. Thanks.
The net was purchased at Fisherman's marine in Portland, OR. Hope that helps. GL

Wow wow wow. I've never caught a dungeness crab and you made it look so fun and so easy. It might be worth dri ing up fro. California.

Tillamook Bay and bay south of that. Low tide is key. 🤙🏽🤙🏽
I’ve never seen crabbing like this. Would you be willing to share a general location? I’d love to take my family and try it. Thank u
Any shallow bay shores are good and estuaries. Must be 1 hr before a good low tide. Google maps is what I use. GL
@@BackFishing whats considered a good low tide?
@@dexira7721 not a minus tide too low. You want enough water for crabs to crawl around. What works for me is .10 ft to .80 ft.
Haha that one crab just want you to catch him.cute!
Are you doing any crabbing this season? Will be there the first of Oct. Would be great to have some idea where to go crab snaring.

Congratulations on the baby I think that’s the best way to catch crabs
Super fun chasing them around in their natural habitat.
Thanks a bunch!!
gawd i can`t wait for next weekend! hope to do the same thing at this same place.
Good luck. Weather and rain is a factor.
Hi, would you able to let me know what is the name of beach or location? Thanks.
Out of respect for locals I usually do not mention names of places. I only tell you it's in Tillamook County. GL
Lol the first female had me on the floor laughing.
I don't understand the cravings for these crabs? The claws are small and the rest under the shell is just guts! Why?
Lol...some people love it and some people don't like crabs. I love truffles and some people don't. I love blue cheese some people stick to cheddar. We are all unique in many ways and similar in many ways.
suppose to measure them before putting in bucket.
I think I know when a crab is over 5" 3/4. Thanks for the comment.
Wow what a beautiful spot!! Nice work!!
Yes, beautiful area. Always I enjoy the surroundings. 🤙🏽
I like this!😀
What part of the coast? Depot bay? Lincoln city? Newport Bay Area?
All good areas. Just follow low tide guide. GL
What month was this? Great video thank you for sharing
This was first week of September. 🤙🏽🤙🏽

What’s the location??
Looks like the Necanicum R. maybe?
😉
Did you find out the exact location?
Cool video
Thank you. When don't own a boat you find ways.
New Subscriber, Good Video 📹 👌 👏 👍. Where was you crabbing exactly? Would love to join you before I move to the Philippines 🇵🇭.
Appreciate it. Thanks.
the ones with the barnicles are usually hard shells. been a while secse it shed. hand operation, cant type, sorry!!
Congrats on the snares. Yes, I agree about the barnacles.

Can I ask why? Curious about editing my content. Please expound and share your thoughts.
Good choice not keeping crabs with a barnacle on, makes them taste like crab.
What is your location? I want to get some crab

If you're going to do this, then you should always take your measuring thing with you. Measure before, you should know better pal.
