Love it! Oh man I miss crabbing! No crab in Vegas compares to catching your own! My little hidden area to crab was the docks behind the Rouge brewery in Newport (if you don’t have a boat)
Whenever a go crabbing in Garibaldi, I go on the side where the rocks are. When it's low tide you can walk along the rocks and toss out your crab trap. The traps I found worked best are the ones you need to use with a fishing pole, it's hard work reeling it in but very rewarding. Every cast let it soak for 15-20 minutes and you get huge ass Dungies, left and rights!
Port Orford is kick ass crabbing spot. Best time is early during incoming tide. Once caught numerous crab there that were all 6.5 inches to over 8. One of the best kept secrets of the Oregon Coast. U don't need a boat, crab right at the end of the town dock 🦀🦀🦀👍😋
Caught all my crab using crab snares. Yes, 8+ is not common. My biggest on that dock was just over 8 and weighed 2.54 pounds on a digital scale. That specific season there was a lot of large crab, many in the 7 inch size
@@MisfitsFiendClub138 Dang - 2lb+ is just crazy! Congrats on that epic catch! I've had a few days of 7lb+ and you have to cherish those days on the water!
@@madmax8620 if you have a boat inside the bay on an incoming tide, right when it’s done coming in at SLACK. By the inside of the bay, that woodstack light that sits in the middle of the bay is a good area, all the way to the jetty a couple hundred yards in, off the tips (north side-side of the jetty has been better for us) Soak pots for two-four hours. Use fish carcasses found in the trash cans at the marina filet stations (especially if you have the stronger pots, sea lions will destroy your pots if they’re like the DanielSon or Promar cheapies). Also Waldport 15 miles south of Newport. Same thing. Incoming to slack and use bait/lure soaked (any bait cure works really) chicken also.
@@rmoutzen that’s what’s I’ve heard. I’d love to fish or crab with ya! I live in Newport. Fish out of that port on my buddy’s 2250 Stabicraft, but he hates crabbing so I have to do it other ways. A few other friends have boats and kick me down crab often. But I love doing it too! Ain’t nothing like cooking fresh crab from the PNW!
Yes, there are multiple spots to crab from the jetty or beach with a snare or foldable trap. You can also crab off 12th street in Seaside which is a really cool experience!
Thares crab in Astoria but it's historically bin hit so hard that thares. Chunk of water 10x30 miles from mouth of Columbia soulth that can't be trolled for salmon because thares so many sanded in gost pots that still have line to buey on surface
For sure! I have some crabbing spots along the coast I haven't been too in a long time that I need to visit again, and that includes Winchester and Waldport!
You can save a LOT of money by watching the ads at the local stores. Unless you own crab pots, have a steady supply of bait and live on the coast? $6.99 per pound on sale will work out a LOT cheaper than renting stuff and burning gas to make the drive. ...and motel rates if you stay the night. In al honesty? If you add everything up? Paying full price at $10.99 per pound is probably cheaper!

OMG that shot of Scandies Rose! She sunk off Kodiak couple years back working for crab
Bandon , Winchester Bay and Newport are all good choices 👍
Got me some fresh Dungeness crab last weekend 😁
I’ve had great success on the Siuslaw River in Florence, OR this month.
Nice 🦀

That's definitely the secret spot. Next time you come out to Oregon, let's sync up and go cabbing with World According to Briggs!
Its not a secret spot if everyone goes there -_-.
@@lemon-iu7bo well not secret but not well known 😉
@@WillyFish totally on board! I have a family house in Lincoln city, and some crabbing gear of my own 🙀
@@kimmitheexplorer7473 Let's do it! I know Briggs always talks about getting crabs LOL
Great vid.
Newport has been my best spot so far for pier crabbing, too.
Newport is a great place for crabbing! One of my favorites!
@@WillyFish Going to Newport this coming Tuesday for some (hopefully) dungee's and some red rocks!

It may be on the next list,...,

Right on Tom! I haven't done the rod & trap technique yet, but I bet it's a ton of fun along the rocks.
Good job
Born and raised there.

An 8 is rare, but they look so big when you pull up the trap or pot - you just know it's a keeper!

Newport is epic for crabbing!
It is indeed a great spot for crabbing!
But what part exactly in newport???(off land)... been there and asking around dozens of times, and never an answer...

Waldport should have been mentioned too, to be honest!
It makes the top 10, but not the top 5. It's one of my favorite secret spots!
Live on Alsea Bay, best crabbing around!

I've hit all except Tillamook, I guess that's the next one.
Are there actual crabbing on the coast without a boat?
