  • Day 3 of our journey brings us across the wide open plains of Oklahoma as we continue westward on the Mother Road - Route 66! The Sooner State is full of wonderful roadside oddities. My brother and I crossed into Oklahoma at sundown the previous night so we were unable to see some of these famous highway gems. Upon waking up at the Lincoln Motel in Chandler, OK we decided to backtrack east of Tulsa to experience these Mother Road Monuments for ourselves.
Oklahoma has some of the best folk art and roadside Goliaths in the USA. The towering Ed Galloway Totem Poles near Foyil, OK and the Blue Whale of Catoosa near Catoosa, OK are iconic stops along Route 66.
Route 66 in Oklahoma provides the perfect blend of urban cities passing through Tulsa and Oklahoma City and rural towns sprinkled across the wind swept prairies. At sundown we passed across the state border into Texas - the 5th state Route 66 traverses through.
I must say, gazing upon the neon lights of the old Conoco Tower Station was one of the most magical experiences of my life under the night sky in Shamrock, TX. Our final destination to end Day 3 on the Mother Road was in Amarillo, TX where we checked into the Big Texan Motel.

Thanks, wrote and recorded at home on my stratocaster guitar. Always liked that early rock’n roll sound.

I drove the entire route in 2021...I also saw the Twistex Memorial! I'm a bit of a weather buff as well, and I remember watching "Storm Chasers" on Discovery Channel.

Growing up in western Iowa have had a lot of experiences with tornadic weather & seen an F2 tornado first hand. Nothing but respect for the meteorologists that study and chase them. I’ve always been fascinated by the power and beauty of storms.
I highly recommend viewing another excellent youtube channel - Pecos Hank if you’re interested in tornadoes.

@@GetmeouttahereErik I live in NW Indiana and I have not actually seen a tornado first hand in the 46 years I've been alive, although we've had a good amount of tornado warnings. Probably for the best since I live in a pretty densely populated area. I think I've watched some of Pecos Hank's videos before, as well as Reed Timmer. Really enjoying your take on Route 66 in these videos!
