The reality is this: we do not know how God will judge, and it is not our place. God is the eternal standard of good, and he is 100% good. He is also 100% just. So: your life is a sacred gift and you should not throw away that gift that God has given you, if you are with the lord what shall you fear? you have nothing to lose - and everything to gain by staying alive. give your troubles to the all powerful creator. but if someone has committed suicide do not tell their loved ones they will go to hell. The reality is you are not in charge of their fate, and you cannot be certain about their fate. Instead we should respond to such a tragic loss of that gift of life from God by being there in love for those that are mourning, and we should remind them that we serve an all powerful, all good, all just God. Whatever he does, will be just. Whatever he does, will be the right thing. it isn't for us to worry about, its for us to trust him in. Trust that he will do what is right, and make your peace with the fact that we serve a perfect and good God. When we die and find out what has happened, we will not disagree with whatever he has done, because his ways are good and acceptable and perfect.

Christians often assume that suicide is an unforgivable sin and that those who die by suicide automatically go to hell. That’s a misconception that believes in a transactional view of sin and forgiveness, where if we don’t confess the sin of suicide after it takes place, it can’t be forgiven. But that idea comes more from Augustine and medieval theology than the Bible. Scripture doesn’t actually say that suicide separates us from God for eternity. The unforgivable sin is never equated with suicide in Scripture. Somebody like Samson died at his own hand, but he’s still included in Hebrews 11 among the Hall of the Faithful. And there’s the promise in Romans 8 that “neither life nor death,” not even death by suicide, could “separate us from the love of God in Christ.” God's promise and mercy is greater than sin anyways and a true christian/believer knows that. The people experiencing suicidal ideation are often torn between the desire to die and the desire to live. When the desire to die outweighs the desire to live or exceeds their capacity for coping mechanisms to handle their pain, that’s when suicide takes place. We are to be understanding and not take the roll of judgement in regards to whether someone has been saved or not in the afterlife because as scripture says that's God roll, not ours. Anyone who thinks they are better because the're a real "christian" who hasn't commited suicide has a LOT to learn, both about the Bible, Lanuage, History, Human psychology, hardships, and being humble. Judging ourselves as better is a sin and even Jesus says those who think they are first will be last because "not everyone who says Lord, Lord shall be in his kingdom". (That's a statement made towards Christians who think they are better than other Christians while condemning others and judging their own selves as the only who are "saved".
    Matthew 12:36
35The good man brings good things out of his good store of treasure, and the evil man brings evil things out of his evil store of treasure. 36But I tell you that men will give an account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken. 37For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.
    James 3:6
The tongue also is a fire, a world of wickedness among the parts of the body. It pollutes the whole person, sets the course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.
    James 4
8Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. 9Grieve, mourn, and weep. Turn your laughter to mourning, and your joy to gloom. 10Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will exalt you.
11Brothers, do not slander one another. Anyone who speaks against his brother or judges him speaks against the Law and judges it. And if you judge the Law, you are not a practitioner of the Law, but a judge of it. 12There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the One who is able to save and destroy. But who are you to judge your neighbor?
    Do Not Boast about Tomorrow
    (Proverbs 27:1-27)
13Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business, and make a profit.” 14You do not even know what will happen tomorrow! What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.
15Instead, you ought to say, “If the Lord is willing, we will live and do this or that.” 16As it is, you boast in your proud intentions. All such boasting is evil. 17Anyone, then, who knows the right thing to do, yet fails to do it, is guilty of sin.
    1 Corinthians 4:3
I care very little if I am judged by you or by any human court; indeed, I do not even judge myself.
    1 Corinthians 4:4
My conscience is clear, but that does not vindicate me. It is the Lord who judges me.
    Romans 14:12
So then, each of us will give an account of himself to God.
So if anyone who thinks of themselves as higher and saved just remember all of this and especially the following, that you don't know your own future nor how God will judge you.
    Matthew 24;12,13
12Because of the multiplication of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold.
13but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved. (notice future tense will be saved and not past tense saved, your future is still in the hands of God and his judgement alone no matter what you say).
    1 Corinthians 4:3
I care very little if I am judged by you or by any human court; indeed, I do not even judge myself.
    1 Corinthians 4:4
    (According to Paul).
My conscience is clear, but that does not vindicate me. It is the Lord who judges me.
Proverbs 27:1 Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring.
    Matthew 23:12
For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.
    1 Corinthians 10:12
12 So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall.
    Galatians 6:3
3 For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself.
    1 Corinthians 13
1 If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all FAITH, so as to remove mountains, but have NOT LOVE love, I am NOTHING. 3 If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I GAIN NOTHING.
4 Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant 5 or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful;[b] 6 it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth.
    1 John 4:7-8
7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.
8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.
    John 13:35
By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.
    John 17:3
3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

To clear up a few misconceptions in regards to verses and other things. Remember LANGUAGE is key because small details cannot be translated perfectly all the time. The Bible was NOT written in English, which most forget. Archaic greek (koine greek) is different from modern greek in a way.
So anyone who tries using a text out of context is only nothing more than a pretext. 1 Corinthians 3:17 "Destroy the temple and God shall destroy you" is plural and refers to his temple not as an individual but a group (people) within the faith community as the temple of God. Paul is talking about the sin of diving the church (people) through false teachings. Because faith is important to God, he takes diving the faith very seriously, so much that he will punish church leaders who mislead others (sorry I can't remember where the verse is at). I don't know how God sees those who mislead others out of ignorance (lack of sufficent and proper knowledge)/accidental ignorance) that is something only he knows, because ignorance is very human and God does not expect us to actually know absolutely everything.
Reading from the preceding section in the same chapter, the temple cited in verse 17 is referring to the collective body of believers (amplified in 1 Cor 3:10-14), and therefore not to our individual bodies as temples of God (which is mentioned later in 1 Cor. 6). The following words in Greek (highlighted in bold) are in the plural form, which substantiates that the "temple" is a collective in the immediate context, and not in reference to any one person.
Paul therefore was speaking in this immediate about the divisions among the Corinthians within the body collective (plural), which is pointing to destroying the temple of God (collective body of believers). The problems in Corinth were literally "de-constructive."
The matter of God's building structure in the Bible (temple) is an important biblical topic. Thus to address the question on what constitutes "destroying" thus places emphasis on not building with gold, silver and precious stones. In other words, when you fail to build with gold, silver, and precious stones, you are building with "wood, hay, and stubble" (de-construction, or weakening God's temple).
According to 1 Cor 3:12, the proper building materials for the Temple of the Lord are gold, silver, and precious stones. Gold is incorruptible, and brings the reader to consider the gold used in the Hebrew Bible within the tabernacle and later the Temple. Silver is another precious metal that does not rust or corrode, and therefore is also incorruptible, and so again we return to the sanctity and purity of God's dwelling (temple). Precious stones are created through heat and pressure, and therefore echoes the transforming and constituting Spirit of Christ (2 Cor 3:18). We are all men of clay (Gen. 2:7; Romans 9:21). When we were brought to God through Jesus we became a stone in God's building (Matt. 16:17-18; 1 Pet. 2:5). Through pressures and refining fires in our environment, the Lord performs his transforming work on the stone transforming us "from glory to glory" (2 Cor 3:18); thus we become those precious stones in the collective temple of the Lord.
      1 Corinthians 1:10-17
      Divisions in the Church
10 I appeal to you, brothers,[a] by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgment. 11 For it has been reported to me by Chloe's people that there is quarreling among you, my brothers. 12 What I mean is that each one of you says, “I follow Paul,” or “I follow Apollos,” or “I follow Cephas,” or “I follow Christ.” 13 Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul? 14 I thank God that I baptized none of you except Crispus and Gaius, 15 so that no one may say that you were baptized in my name. 16 (I did baptize also the household of Stephanas. Beyond that, I do not know whether I baptized anyone else.) 17 For Christ did not send me to baptize but to preach the gospel, and not with words of eloquent wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power.
      1 Corinthians 11:18-19
18 For, in the first place, when you come together as a church, I hear that there are divisions among you. And I believe it in part, 19 for there must be factions among you in order that those who are genuine among you may be recognized.
Also faith though involves hope, faith and hope are NOT the same thing.
Faith is not just trust it's also a matter of believing in God's existence, the core of faith. A suicidal person has not necessarily lost faith in all cases, just hope. The Bible says Jesus came to give salvation, Earth is not heaven. Jesus did not promise to give us a perfect Earthly life nor to restore it all. David suffered from severe grief until his grave. What Jesus promised was to be our lawyer and to make us inhert his kingdom through God's grace.
      1 John 1:8
8 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.
      1 John 2:1-2
1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:
2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
We are relying on God's mercy and grace NOT on ourselves. Otherwise, we'd all be with no hope of salvation since no human can please God since we are all imperfect.
Ecclesiastes 7:20 King James Version (KJV)
20 For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not.
My friends that's why it is through grace and Jesus's perfection not ours, that we become heirs of his kingdom if it be his will we are received in his home according to his judgement alone. Surely we are try to be our best in God's ways so as to honor him and love him (remeber faith without fruits is dead and hence our faith would be invalid if we do not honor him by trying to live in holiness). Holiness does not refer to perfection because as I stated humans aren't perfect but holiness refers to living "saintly" as Paul states, loving God by reflecting his ways. Also the Bible does not talk about a hell as in a place of torture and eternal fire. Look at the original language. To believe God is both unconditional love and eternal vegenance is called dualism. Bad outweighs the good so believing such thing actually contradicts the image of God. God is justice not vengenance. When he says revenge is mine he doesn't mean being unmerciful, and hateful he simply refers to justice. Justice is balanced while revenge is not. Look up the difference. Eternal hell for a temporary sin is not justice but revenge act of hate. The God of the Bible has a will based on righteousness not on revenge. Looks like there is a "hell" a place of temporary darkness for those who await the day of judgement. To sum it all up, the honest answer is we don't know where ANYONE is at after they die, whether they commited suicide or not. And as you can see, suicide doesn't gurantee being disowned by God, just like not commiting suicide doesn't gurantee you are going to be going to heaven. Only God can have the absolute judgement because every individual has individual judgement. Remember all forms of death, even if it's suicide, cannot separate us from the love and mercy of God as the Bible satetes. Also most people who commit suicide are mentally ill, and God knows that not everyone is capable of thinking properly. Suicidal people need help love and support not "holier than though" people to point fingers at them as if they were the holy judge. Faith is not a choice, it's usually influenced from generation to generation and regional. Trust isn't just given it's earned. What may convince one person doesn't always convince another person. You may trust your friends while others may not, we can't understand every view and decision only God understands every world (every mindset). Everyone has a breaking point and maybe some judgemental people haven't reached there's just yet, and if you haven't then be grateful and pray for those are at the edge of the cliff even if you don't know them because some people are literally hanging on a itty bitty string, with no one to help them up. One day, humanity will be perfect though, because we will no longer be broken in a broken world. And God shall wipe the tears from every eye, and the old world will stay in the past in a new world ( God's kingdom). Ravi Zacharias is obviously not an ill willed man, he's just sharing his view as we all do and he's being honest most importantly. Though there's some things I don't agree with, I agree with most of what he said to his audience. May he rest in peace and much respect for him. God bless you all.

That’s why there are mental hospitals. That’s why 90% of people who committed suicide suffered from mental illness. These illnesses left untreated are highly destructive and sometimes deadly. I wholeheartedly believe suicide doesn't just send you to hell, because most if not all people who commit suicide are incredibly hurting and they are mentally and emotionally broken hence they become mentally ill to the point they just want the pain to stop and i believe our loving God takes that into consideration and understanding even if he wished for a different outcome. And the Catholic church created that teaching to discourage suicide but its not biblically founded.

As Ravi said, it is up to God, Who would be the judge.
Though for someone to hurt so much to kill themselves, while knowing Christ, seems odd.
The pain they feel, is only mortal pain, and will heal through God's hand if requested, but much of the time with God's help, we find it more useful in our time, rather than in His time.
So if someone cried out to him but killed themselves before he brought them through the darkness in the way he designed them to be released, they have defied God, they asked for his help then refused to trust in his timing and rejected his hand of healing out of their own prerogative to choose their own way in their own time.
They also, as Ravi had explained, defiled the most sacred gift given.
Now if you look at it from the beginning, the cry for help was much like a threat.
"I need your help God, but if it isn't delivered in the time I want it to be, or I miss an opportunity, I will help myself."
Now that all sounds harsh to all degree's and it is, I did not beat around the bush.
Being someone who has wanted to kill myself and being saved through Christ, I know that Faith is a hard bar to hold on to, at least on your own.
You hang on not because of your own strength, not because of the strength of your faith, but because you had faith.
When you strengthen your arm to the bar of Faith and let your Faith weaken, you will fall.
But Strengthen your Faith and let your arm weaken, you will find the bar wont let you fall.

Well the Catholic church did hold that belief (based on the commandment, though shalt not kill) and you were not permitted a Christian burial. But this was before we had any understanding of mental illness and severe emotional trauma. Now the Church does permit Christian burial for suicides. Most people who kill themselves lack 1) sufficient reflection and/or 2) full consent of the will. The sin may objectively be a "mortal sin"(one that kills the life of grace in the soul) but subjectively we can not say, it is for God to decide.

I agree, the mental illness side of things is not addressed. And I’m sure you’ll agree, it often isn’t in the Christian world. I think it’s because of you haven’t lived through it, you just don’t get it. Ppl who are mentally ill are out of control of their thoughts, emotions and even their actions. So suicide is not a willful choice at that point. Jesus died and conquered and forgave all sin. I can’t say I’m 1000% sure, but this is what I think. I myself have suffered from a serious mental disorder for 4 years of my life untreated during those years. I was suicidal at times (I wanted to be dead and thought about it bc I was in constancy agony, mental and physical too), but never happened to attempt. But honestly, I very well could have.

If a soldier knows that he must give up his own life to save those of his fellow soldiers and he runs out into enemy fire knowing he will die, is that not suicide? Do not soldiers engage in "suicide missions" frequently in war? Did not even Jesus Himself lay down his own life willingly? Do you really think that Jesus could not have prevented himself from being hung on the cross? OF COURSE HE COULD HAVE, but what Did Jesus say? John 15:13 "Greater love hath no man than this. That a man lay down his life for his friends". Does that sound like suicide is an automatic sentence to the lake of fire? When a mother tells the doctors to let her die if it will save the baby, are you so devoid of the Holy Spirit that you think the mother will burn in hell for all eternity for this selfless act? He who has ears, let him hear.

Are you so stupid that you do not know that THE VERY MOMENT A PERSON ASKS GOD TO FORGIVE THEM, THEY ARE FORGIVEN FOR EVERY SIN THEY HAVE COMMITTED OR WILL EVER COMMIT? You must not know WHO God is!!! Do you not know that when a person who will later commit suicide asks God to forgive them in the name of Jesus, God ALREADY KNOWS about the suicide?!!! You are a complete idiot if you think one can catch God by surprise by committing suicide. God is NOT confined by the space/time continuum as we are, and you are leaning to YOUR OWN understanding based on this physical realm that confines you but guess what? IT DOESN'T CONFINE GOD!! God already know a person commits the suicide when he forgives that person and remember what Jesus said about asking forgiveness in His name. Matthew 7:8 "Everyone who asks, receives" and He NEVER said that people who commit suicide don't count. In fact, Jesus tells us clearly that ALL sins shall be forgiven except blasphemy of the Holy Spirit, now are you too stupid to know what that means? Is that not plain enough for you? Stop disrespecting the sacrifice of Christ Jesus by spreading this lie!

    For anyone who needs it:
Don’t give up. There’s no reason to. You’ve woken up today, that means that God still has purpose for you, something you perhaps don’t know yet, or aren’t supposed to know just yet, but if you’re here, that means God will put something in front of you that will make you rejoice that you’ve stayed here, and endured. Don’t let the enemy win, don’t surrender, Jesus did not let the enemy win! He fought hard for you! Fight hard for yourself, fight hard for the life you’ve been given, life is a one time deal, don’t have the what if scenario be the end, because you have NO IDEA what tomorrow, the next day, a week,a month, a year, a decade, 50 years, you don’t know what they will entail. God will NEVER give you more than you can handle, and don’t take my word for it, take his: No temptation [regardless of its source] has overtaken or enticed you that is not common to human experience [nor is any temptation unusual or beyond human resistance]; but God is faithful [to His word-He is compassionate and trustworthy], and He will not let you be tempted beyond your ability [to resist], but along with the temptation He [has in the past and is now and] will [always] provide the way out as well, so that you will be able to endure it [without yielding, and will overcome temptation with joy].
    1 Corinthians 10:13,
You can do it, he has made sure of it, you’re not alone, he will allow you to get through this, with him, for he has endured ALL things! For Jesus Christ is Lord God of all! God bless you all! Nothing, and I mean NOTHING, is too difficult for the Lord our God, with Christ, ALL things are possible!

If God is good and instilled us with this moral compass. We feel that the idea of someone who committed suicide is hell bound is wrong, then it's likely that it is so. Suicide is usually the final option and some beg God to rescue them as their final breathe? The Bible tells us that God doesn't abandon his children therefore why would he turn his back on that child once he/she comes to him? It seems wrong, which is why I believe that this view point that suicide equals hell is outdated and wrong.

Ravi wasn’t Jesus. Whether or not the allegations are true, what most people forget is that he was a man. He sinned as we all do, if the allegations are true and he wanted to lie about it that is between him and God now.
What cannot be undone is the finished work of Christ on the cross. What cannot be undone is the people who are born again and know Him personally. What cannot be undone or torn apart is the fact that Jesus Christ is seated at the right hand of God in Heaven.
Christ, not Ravi, is the center of the Bible. God exists and the only way that you will find the truth is to search for it wholeheartedly. God has proven himself through creation and your conscience bears witness to the law He established. You know the difference between right and wrong. I pray that your eyes be opened to see the beauty of our creator.
