    One of the primary things I didn't explicitly discuss is usage frequency. We have effectively no data to tell us anything more than: less use is better and even less use is even better. So, any specific frequency recommendation is largely just a hypothesis. That being said, I think it's highly unwise to use MDMA weekly and even monthly use should be avoided.
    The typical 3-month recommendation is a good starting point, but if you can reduce your use even further, that's certainly not a bad thing.
    If you're using the drug in settings that are far from ideal (e.g. festivals), you should have an even greater focus on restricting your use.

    • @ptadisbander7959
      @ptadisbander7959 7 лет назад +2

      Why is a festival considered far from ideal place to use?

    • @TheDrugClassroom
      @TheDrugClassroom  7 лет назад +35

      The downside to festivals is often the local temperature, ambient heat from crowding, and high activity levels. Those can contribute to increased body temperature and likely through some pathway to a higher potential for toxicity. So, it's not that you cannot try to make your use safer in festival settings, but I don't view it as ideal when compared to a relaxed/cool indoor/outdoor environment with the substance taken early enough to not infringe upon sleep.
      On one end of the "ideal/not ideal" spectrum are clubs/festivals and on the other end is a MAPS therapy-like setting. I just feel it's worth mentioning that using it further on the latter side of the spectrum is a good idea when possible.
      Most people who regularly attend festivals are still going to despite hearing this. That's understandable. As such, I'm often just focused on harm reduction in those settings (drug checking, take breaks, limit redosing, don't overdo the water, etc.)

      100% agree. I used it once a month for awhile thinking I was being safe... I started noticing I became more of an anxious person and less motivated (maybe i mean scared to do things?). I don't think I did permanent damage to my brain (because it was still once a month at reasonable dosages) but it certainly put me in a bad funk for a bit. I now use it once every 3-4 months and have had no problems as well as my anxiety decreasing and motivation going back to normal.

It was just so fun and there was nothing else to do, wasn't many jobs going in 2008 where I lived. Me and my mates would take them probably on average once a week but sometimes multiple times in a week for 2-3 years, only really stopped taking them because they didn't get me high anymore. I used to be drug dealer for 3 years, from age 22-25. I've sold and taken drugs at over 40 different festivals; EDC, Coachella, Mysteryland, LiB, you name it, and some on back to back weekends. also not counting club events and partying literally every single weekend for those 3 years. I must have taken at the very least 500 points of MDMA(125mg each) during this time period, not to mention all the LSD that I would often combine it with. I've stopped dealing and I'm pursuing a career in computer science now, and I have to say.... I feel perfectly fine. In fact, I would say I'm the smartest and healthiest I've ever been. It might just be genetics, or if the MDMA was just that pure(it was) but one thing I avoided at all costs was doing cocaine + MDMA + Alcohol together or stacking more than 2 substances together in general. I've also never done more than 100ug of LSD at a time. I honestly believe that if you don't take more than 2 drugs at a time, you should be fine. Purity is also a big issue; I'd much rather do molly than ecstacy, which has other mystery drugs in it.

    • @TheDrugClassroom
      @TheDrugClassroom  5 лет назад +56

      The science on MDMA toxicity is based on pure MDMA, purity is not a notable factor in neurotoxicity. You also cannot necessarily feel damage, so simply feeling fine doesn't mean something was healthy.

      @@anonymousetrapper MDMA is Molly. Ecstacy (or XTC) is just MDMA pressed into a pill together with a binding agent so the pill doesn't fall apart. However because it's a pill it's easier for dealers to put other garbage into the pills instead of MDMA because it cuts the cost.
      If you buy MDMA in crystal form you can be pretty sure there's no other bullshit in it, that's why it's generally safer.

    • @Mc96P
      @Mc96P 5 лет назад +3

      @@anonymousetrapper It all depends on the dosage of active drugs that's being consumed. If you were to consume 120 mg of MDMA in crystal form it would cause the same amount of damage if that 120 mg crystal was grinded into a powder and put into a pill (granted of course that there's no other harmful stuff in the pill).
      If you were planning to try MDMA once (you don't have to answer that, just trying to help you out, but let's say hypothetically) it's always best to get crystals because it's the easiest way to know it's "safe". Darkweb is always safer to buy quality drugs than from a random dude on the streets. However I recommend you buy reagent testing kits online (it's legal in I think every western country) to make sure that you actually bought MDMA and not an other substance because the rocks won't have MDMA written over them haha.
      An other important thing to have is a milligram scale. If you live in America you can get the Gemini 20 for like $20 and it's great quality. Always weigh out and test your drugs. Harm reduction is very important. Drugs can be a wonderful thing but if you don't respect them they will fuck up your life.
      So be smart, and if you like it and plan on doing it more than once, then please keep at least 3 months between drops to minimize damage to your brain.

      You are overdosing on MDMA. Your body has too much of the chemical, MDMA, and is purging (Getting rid of it), by throwing up. Just like when you drink too much alcohol, you will throw up. Your body is getting rid of too much of the chemical. Unfortunately, when this happens, you also throw up the half dissolved bean. So you are not getting all of the drugs, because you threw it up and will not get any higher.

      you are experiencing nausea because most of the body's serotonin receptors are located in the gut and stimulate the smooth muscles there(think causing contractions) When you take MDMA it activates those receptors in your gut. I have tested Vitamic C and THC myself for harm-reduction from MDMA, and from my experience vitamin C actually makes it last a bit longer and reduced some of the severity of the side-effects, and using THC after MDMA felt like it also helped reduce the severity of the side-effects and even made some of the euphoria come back slightly. I would definately reccomend not taking it again for at least a minimum of 3 months to allow serotonin to recover, 1 month is often reccomended but it is not enough, and taking it when it is hot is certainly dangerous and could be fatal due to overheating, but if you decide to do it in warm weather anyway, please avoid direct sunlight exposure, stay in the shade, drink water regularly to replenish from water loss due to sweating, and take regular breaks to cool down.
    Also a good tip i have found to prevent temptation to re-dose, is just only take enough for 1 dose for each person, trust me, when this stuff comes down youre gonna want to keep taking it until you dont have any left, once i took 3 doses in one session and it was the worst comedown i have ever had, just dont re-dose at all, ever.
    The 2nd dose was only about 10% effective, and the 3rd was basically nothing, it seems that tolerance builds up very quickly with this substance so re-dosing is pointless and you wont get what you want from the 2nd dose, so just never re-dose and save yourself from the intense depression caused by taking too much of this stuff.

I'm now almost 30 and i haven't taken it for the last few years. I forget a lot, even important events like my first dates and milestones with my partner, i forget people, i forget small things people told me 30 minutes ago, i forget words (e.g. "fridge" will become "that cold thing the food is in". I also have anxiety (i think I've always had it, but it feels worse now). I also feel like my general understanding of information is worsening too. I have to re-read things to try to process the information properly. Maybe this would have happened anyway as my memory has never been amazing, but ecstasy use could be to blame.

    At the 7:03 mark, one statistic you use is 0.6 celsius centigrade temperature increase for dosage in mg/kgs. Isn't using an absolute temperature increase flawed since the cause and effect are in relative units. Shouldn't the statistic under scrutiny be a change in body temperature in relation to total body heat?

    • @TheDrugClassroom
      @TheDrugClassroom  7 лет назад +1

      That section is referring to the mg/kg dose in two different species that yields a similar effect, in this case a body temperature increase. By no means is that an ideal measure of drug exposure, but trying to match effects is one way to get closer to figuring out what kind of dose scaling is needed. Whether that's the threshold for serotonin syndrome, the threshold for a temperature increase, or the threshold for any variety of other effects.
      That specific functional measure was deemed relevant as the dose it yields fits with some of the other interspecies scaling doses. that have been mentioned in the literature.

      Well I really liked the combination of 2C-B and MDMA.
      As I took quite a lot of MDMA because I underestimated how strong sniffing MDMA is, I mostly felt the MDMA experience. However, the visuals from the 2C-B made it a bit better, and it felt more "mature", if you can put it that way. I don't know how else to explain it, but the psychedelics made me a bit more aware. Usually MDMA makes you very overexited, naive and optimistic, I mean this effect was still there, but the psychedelic part could be the voice of reason, if necessary.
      I have to adnmit that I did way too much of both substances.
      First I took 20 mg of 2C-B orally and then 20 mg intranasaly (I don't know if "intranasaly" is the right word, english isn't my mother tounge)
      several hours later I took 210 mg MDMA intranasaly, I do have a high tolerance, but it was still a lot for me.

    • @TheDrugClassroom
      @TheDrugClassroom  4 года назад +5

      Four times per year should not be particularly dangerous so long as you test your pills/powder with reagents to ensure they are likely MDMA (not another drug), take common doses (100-150 mg), and try to stay cool either by not using it during crowded, hot events or by at least taking regular breaks during those events. The supplements may help if you have the money to spend on them, though I view them as an accessory to those other recommendations.

    So if I'm understanding correctly, glutathione potentially increases negative effects?
    I have a micronized glutathione spray supplement that is absorbed through the mouth and has been shown to effectively increase glutathione. I've considered using this before and after rolling simply based on the fact that glutathione is a very powerful antioxidant. I've read that antioxidants help prevent or repair damage from rolling since it causes oxidative stress.
    But you're saying the opposite seems to be true? That an increase in glutathione would cause an increase in negative effects from mdma?

  • @eray9934

    Wow, great informative video! One question--you showed how NAC conjugates of MDMA metabolites also produced ROS and could be neurotoxic. So it seems as if NAC could cause more harm, but it is still recommended for possible harm reduction in the end. Can you explain this? I must have missed something...

    • @TheDrugClassroom
      @TheDrugClassroom  5 лет назад +8

      We don't currently have reason to believe NAC will change toxicity for the worse via that route. It may only potentially come into play if MDMA's secondary metabolism is significantly limited under normal conditions in the absence of supplemental NAC, like occurs with a paracetamol (Tylenol) overdose, where NAC detoxifies a toxic metabolite that otherwise builds up if NAC is not given.
      Yet with MDMA the body's natural amount of glutathione, cysteine, etc will probably do everything needed to produce a normal amount of those NAC/glutathione-conjugate metabolites, so adding extra NAC isn't doing anything notably negative, i.e. the harm has already been done.
      And since it's unlikely to be harming via that route, we can gain the benefits of NAC as an antioxidant, where we have evidence it is effective. I think it is fair to be confident in this since NAC's efficacy has been confirmed in mammals, who would be experiencing both the neuronal antioxidant benefit of NAC *and* its hypothetical harm as a promoter of metabolism, which appears to be negligible or absent in practice.
      Great question though, on the surface it is curious that NAC would be effective as a treatment for toxicity caused by glutathione and NAC-involved metabolites.

    Is a single low-dose (70 mg) MDMA experience able to fuck with the serotonin receptors? I've taken 70 mgs half a year ago and then suffered from several panic attacks which brought up severe anxiety, depression and DPDR. It started month and a half after the MDMA experience, which is weird? I had a really nice 2 week afterglow, no comedown at all.

    I definitely believe from anecdotal evidence as a history myself and peers with such. That mdma itself is not neurotoxic to a notable amount unless the person is 1. Overheating 2. Dehydrated 3. Are not properly fueled for the resources that are used/repaired. 4. Dosage/polydrug although I dont believe many will hit dosage constraints unless you're thinking of festival setupsm
    I wholeheartedly that the heat impact is the biggest correlation to whether neurotoxicity happens or not.
    Reminder this is anecdotal and is not scientific.

      At best, those supplements on the following days will be useful in alleviating the after effects. At worst (for the most part), you wasted a little money. I don't think it's bad to try things like 5-HTP on the initial days after MDMA. Granted, if you're otherwise healthy, use in a good environment, and take a common dose, the after effects shouldn't be too significant anyways.

One of which was l-tyrosine because he thought it would help with bringing his emotional fitness back by increasing dopamine activity, only to find out that it’s probably doing more harm than good. He was also taking DLPA but will stop taking that as well as a precaution as it also affects dopamine. Wish him luck!

    what about the consumption of other phenethylamins such as 2cb in regards to the recommended "3 month break"? Are there any crossinteractions or somekind of crosstolerance when consumed lets say on one occasion mdma and on another 2cb within 3 months ?

      Based on our current knowledge, 2C-B can reasonably be used more often than MDMA. It can be treated similarly to other psychedelics. MDMA is somewhat unique in having a longer recommended break time.

    The short and long term risks are not fully conclusive therefore taking MDMA is gambling with your health and well being. The comments from all the supposedly brain-damaged burnouts below sound more like a discussion between neuroscientists than RUclips comments from drug abusers.
    Whatever the damage these drugs may or may not incur, they do intellectually heighten users' minds on a very evident level.

    Two questions about end recommendations:
    1) Why ALA instead of DHA or just a general "Omega-3 is good for you"? Is there a specific biochemical way ALA is significant? Omega-3 is significant in MDMA use?
    2) Why NAC instead of recommending a straight up ingestion of glutathione? Is NAC that much better absorbed/converted than straight glutathione?

    • @TheDrugClassroom
      @TheDrugClassroom  5 лет назад

      You're thinking of a different ALA, α-linolenic acid (the Omega fatty acid), not α-lipoic acid, the antioxidant being discussed in the video. As to NAC, it's been specifically studied for its effects on MDMA and is generally a well validated method of increasing glutathione activity, superior to that of oral glutathione.

    • @almiralower
      @almiralower 5 лет назад +3

      In case of SSRI's & SNRI's the short answer is No.
      The long(er) answer: drugs I mentioned are one way or another inhibiting serotonin reuptake in synapses. This means that serotonin stays longer and the concentration might get higher.
      Important fact here: SSRI's & SNRI'S doesn't have compulsive redosing effects on the user. This is my personal first hand experience. On the other hand, benzodiazepines mixed with ongoing addiction are dangerous because the risk of redosing is significant and leads to more cravings and the ongoing downward spiral starts again ..... again my experience here.
      Prescribed antidepressants are one way or another very slightly increasing levels of serotonin. But they are, or should be offered to individual only when there is good evidence that the patient might benefit from increasing serotonin levels.
      MDMA (used without medical supervision) is simply an overkill. It raises your serotonin levels or it act as a serotonin agonist in a very short time to a sky high level. If taken very very cautiously and in very low dose regularly, I don't believe that it will cause brain damage like neurotoxicity.
      The key factor here is that if whatever you take WHILE NOT getting high, you are probably safe.

    Hi,
    4 days ago i took an high quality ecstasy pill (i know its high quality cuz it kicked in in like 35 minutes) and i had a really good time actually i was manic, for a solid 8 hours. I took one half then 2 hours later the other half. This was my first time in 1,4 years. Also i came in my pants when it kicked in, now i have some questions and i would really appreciate if u could reply.
    I am wondering how long it will take for my serotonin levels to recover, and im wondering how long it will take till my sert density has returned to its former levels. I was well hydrates the whole time and in.a cool environment outside. Also, will 5htp speed up the process of recovery? Thanks
    BTW i felt down when it was done working but the following days till now i feel good actually not depressed or anything

    It's funny how biased people still claim that certain drug is "baaad, mmmmkay," even after a study is published that doesn't seem to support that claim (ofc, there's always some danger but most drugs just won't instantly turn you into a mindless piece of sh*t unable to put one coherent sentence together). I mean, what is the point of further enforcing your bias even though it is simply not true and somewhere deep inside you, you know it too.
    The worst part is the fact that these conservative people usually do more harm than good as they are unable to decide between a low and high risk drug, resulting in the ban of safe drugs like LSD, cannabis, mushrooms and to an extent even MDMA and cocaine which are then constantly replaced by temporary legal but dangerous substitues in the form of various ressearch chemicals.

      yea you don´t turn into a potato from using mdma a few times but there could still be slight changes that have a huge influence.
      If there wasnt any reason to believe that its problematic, there wouldnt be people paranoid about it.
