primal groudon, primal kyogre and mega rayquaza are the only three reasons i have for not being too thrilled about megas/primals (possibly) returning, they're absolute menaces in every definition
I was also not too thrilled about pseudo-legendaries getting megas. They're already pretty good on their own, and have their own niches, so weaker pokemons got kinda shafted as Gen I and pseudos got preferential treatment with megas.
Metagross and Mence have been pretty mid to bad in the last few years, at least in singles. The megas helped both immensely. Chomp's and TTar's megas aren't even that good. Also, a funny dimension that Grimsnarl has is that its both really hard to taunt (Prankster prio + immunity to Prankster makes your first funny click kinda undisruptable) and that, in a funny way, all the screens nonsense is surprisingly hard to break through, since prio screens means it will have the defensive bonuses at the moment of being hit. Would love to see a powerpoint about the goofy battle types that weren’t kept for more than a generation or two. Triple battles, rotation battles, battle royales, ect. I imagine there’s some silly stuff with those to talk about.
I still hate the fact that Groudon gets an immunity to Water when Ogre gets an immunity to something it resists anyways. And I know you can take more advantage of PS in doubles, but it feels so cheap for Groudon to just switch into Origin Pulse for free while Ogre has to dance around Precipes Blades. So uneven.
@@BloodyVoyager Not as one sided. But in a pinch kyorge had the advantage. It could always atleast switch into 1 eq, even banded, and threaten groudon out. Groudon could never do the same, base water spout is a roll from modest, and if you run bulky you get outsped, ive oversimplified ofc kyorge groudon have probs the most complex matchup of any pokemon. My point is just kyogre had the slight advantage for a long time, so why not give groudon a large advantage for a shorter time.
@@A_Hardy_Lopunny Because it's terrible game design? The advantage Ogre had it past is not comparable to the primal MU. That's such pointless comparison to even make. Pdon pretty much invalidates POgre unless you run a trash physical set or some gimmick slow Ogre. That's so obvious.
I'm actually surprised that grimsnarld double screens isn't really used in vgc. I used to run it next to Annihilape in reg B, but fluttermane was just to strong into that core lol.
You can thank Flutter Mane and Urshifu for that. Urshifu's ability to just outright ignore them, and Flutter's ability to deal absurd damage even through them, just makes them not worth running. If the two of them get nerfed next-gen, screens might make a comeback, but I doubt they'll be anything beyond niche in S&V
Not only are screens nerfed in double battles, but screens don't help much vs the big offensive threats. Miraidon KOs through screens, same with spectrier, flutter and the like. Zamazenta kills in 2-3 hits before and after screens anyway. Support pokemon don't care about screens at all. Running 2 supportive moves on one pokemon is also a pretty big investment, going grimmsnarl over tornadus is a hard sell.
Hot take, but Rest Talk Grimmsnarl is actually kinda fucked. Like all it needs is a little chip damage and its damaging moves have priority over everything. It seems a bit dumb since you're relying on RNG to click the right move, but it has enough bulk to tank out a few hits so it's not as risky as it sounds, especially if you pair it with STAB move and Bulk Up.
istg for how low-tiered it is in singles anyway i hate grimmsnarl so much, who thought it was a good idea to give prankster screens to a dark type, who is immune to other prankster so it can't be taunted before it does its thing, this mon single-handedly made me despise the concept of prankster, whoever designed this mon should be fired, and i say this as someone whose favorite pokemon is literally flutter mane
