- Patty Smyth invited her husband to come out and do a song in this small club on eastern long island tonight. He did a scorching version of this David Bowie song as a tribute to him.
John McEnroe once went up into space in a rocket.
On approaching the Dog Star,he yelled 'You cannot be Sirius'.
Good as Anybody Else
In 1997, McEnroe's wife, singer-songwriter Patty Smyth, told him, "In the future only one of us will be working away from home on a music tour and it ain't gonna be you!"
This reminds me: Back in the late 70s, I found myself in CBGBs (the then punk rock capitol of the world) with my earliest childhood John. He was working for my brother and his band who were in CBGBs that evening doing a show with The Ramones. Someone played 'Rebel, Rebel' on the jukebox; and being as drunk as a skunk that evening, I proceeded to get up on one of the tables and started to dance. About 3 years later, John found himself working for Peter Frampton, who sent him to South America in search of his favorite lost guitar. I trust some of you know that Peter Frampton and David Bowie were childhood friends and used to play their guitars together when they were kids. And now I remember where I was when I first heard Eric Clapton and Cream's "Anyone For Tennis": I was at John's house; we were still kids at the time! That's a true story.
Man - he`s like thunder and lightning setting the stage on fire here! Pretty resolute and spicy performance. Hats off John and thanks for posting!

Love mister McEnroe. Just listening to his ultra cool New York accent whilst watching the Australian Open tennis. Wish he could hang around here to comment on some of the shite that's coming up on Australian TV once the tennis is over. That would be really funny indeed! Good work on the Bowie song too. Legend!!

Great performance and I love that he's clearly nervous and not as confident as on the court or in the booth - shows he's got some humility and even insecurity. No need though - he plays and sings real nice. :)

Does anyone remember a song by Cream (Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce, Ginger Baker) called-'Anyone For Tennis'? Back in the days when everything was on vinyl, and they still had 45 rpms, it was the flipside of 'Badge'.
