I sometimes wonder why my Jewish friends always have the notion that; once a person disagrees with certain policy or actions by Israel. You're labeled antisemitic. Which is not the case. In 1975 I was a student at Stony Brook university in Long Island. There was a support for Palestine rally at the student union, and I went to listen to the speakers , in an attempt to understand the positions of the people attending the rally. During the presentations I was standing listening when I noticed a previous speaker ,and I engaged her in a conversation! I specially asked her, if she felt as I do, that in the end the only way to have peace in the region was for both sides to abandon violence, and work together towards the establishments of a two state solution. At that moment her faced turned into a portrait of hate, and she screamed at me, less than a few inches from my face, screaming” the only answer is the complete elimination of Israel and it’s people “. I stared at her asking that was not an option, in my eyes, where were the Israelis , who had a legitimate claim on the land, historically to go? She became even more angry and screamed, they all need to be exterminated. I had never encountered such open irrational hatred in my life! I was in S shock. I thought about her response, and calmly said,I was sympathetic to both sides, and asked, “even the children”?
She exploded and replied even babies. I never forgot that day!

But then there have been 9,922+ Palestinians killed along with 26,000+ injured since then, so how many Palestinians do you think know someone directly affected? 4,880 children have been killed by this government in their indiscriminate bombings of civilians. I was looking forward to hearing a moderated debate between passionate young people, and no one should ever be inundated with hate speech or threatened with violence. But these ladies are equating anyone who questions the Israeli government, with being anti-Semetic. They are not the same thing and we’ve painted ourselves into a very dangerous corner when making that claim. Because what’s being asked by that is to allow the far-right, fundamentalist leadership in Israel (their equivalent to Donald Trump), to not be held accountable for their actions - ever. The world is not going for that nonsense, that’s the talk of dictators. Israel has the right to live peacefully and thrive within the territory last agreed upon, I believe that was in 1967. Palestinians deserve to live peacefully with sovereignty and equal standing in the world as Israel within the territory that was agreed upon. No more bombing, no more control, each country living and mixing their own business. But, neither the IDF nor Hamas want a win-win, both sides only care about having it all for themselves. I dare these young women to go to Gaza, feel firsthand the fear the Palestinian children and young face every day.

No they are not innocent and any well educated people know this that's why colleges are in turmoil over this Palestinian holocaust. I’m alarmed by this piece. It really feels like it has really heavily leaned into the fallacy that criticizing Israel is the same as antisemitism. They are not the same thing. I want in the room listening to their professors, nor was I present at any of the protests that they’re referencing, so I take them at their word on those points. The threats of violence, the bomb threats, the professors becoming exhilarated by the actions of Hamas, the antisemitism, none of that is excusable. But one of them did say that her professor was discussing Israel as an oppressive force in its region. She described it as propaganda and mistrust, but that’s not really accurate. To point out that Israel is oppressive to the people of the West Bank, the Golan Heights, and especially Gaza is not antisemitic, it is just factual. Palestinian Arabs in the West Bank have had their allotted land reduced, sometimes illegally even by Israel’s own acknowledgement, by Israeli settlements. Palestinians from the West Bank can get permits to work inside of Israel, but have several career fields closed off to them inside of Israel and fewer rights than Israelis. Gaza is much worse. Israel has cut Gaza off from the rest of the world for sixteen years. Since Israel withdrew its troops from Gaza, they have blockaded the territory, controlling the supply of food, water, electricity, and medical supplies. They control its borders. They say who can come in and who can go out. It’s been described as an open air prison, and it can be considered effectively occupied, in spite of the lack of troops due to how complete the blockade is. It’s not very fertile for crops, so most of the food in Gaza comes from foreign aid. It covers an area about twice the size of Washington, D.C., but has nearly triple the population. Unemployment in Gaza is staggering, about 45% before the outbreak of war. 80% of people in Gaza rely on foreign aid to survive, aid which has now been all but completely cut off. Much of that is due to Israel’s actions, largely how they partitioned the region, keeping the most fertile crop land in Palestine for Jews, and pushing Palestinian Arabs out of those prosperous areas.
The government of Gaza is a terrorist organization, Hamas. They use their own citizens as human shields. They do not care about their people. Israel possesses the 18th most powerful military in the world. They have about 169,500 active duty personnel. Hamas is estimated to have about 25,000 members on the high end. Israel could absolutely destroy Hamas militarily, but that would likely only be a temporary respite. To annihilate Hamas would either mean enormous civilian casualties or a complete genocide of Gaza.
When you have enormous civilian casualties, you further destabilize the area, making people more desperate and more easily radicalized. When you try to get rid of a large terrorist movement with violence, their numbers often simply rise. If the young people of an area have had their homes and families destroyed, they often turn to a group that they think can protect them. The better way to reduce terrorism is the same as the general best way to reduce crime; decrease desperation. Desperate people are dangerous people. Desperation makes us more willing to cross lines we never thought possible for us. But even if you got rid of desperation, there will still be terrorists. Contain the threat as well as you can and minimize civilian casualties.
The other option to eliminate the threat of Hamas is to exterminate the Palestinians of Gaza. That would be genocide. Revital Gottlieb of the Israeli Knesset and member of Netanyahu’s party called for Jericho missiles, a “Doomsday weapon” which can carry nuclear weapons, which Israel possess.
Finally, Israel’s bombing campaign has killed over 8,000 Palestinians, more than 3,000 of whom were children. Very free people are actually able to leave Gaza, so being told to flee just means packing more people into a tiny space that is already overcrowded. It cannot be practically executed sustainably.
Basically, while Hamas is an organization built on terrorism and the eradication of the Israeli state, their horrific deeds do not excuse those of Israel, nor do Israel’s excuse those of Hamas. The lack of humanity on the part of both parties is staggering, and the support of so many governments around the world for this wanton destruction of life is sickening.

They are either completely incompetent, indifferent, or the widespread death and horror is the actual point - and there's a lot of reason to believe that's the case.
The Israeli gov't has made several public statements making it clear that they view the Palestinians as collectively guilty for attacks against Israel, last week Bib straight up and compared them to the biblical Amalek tribe - a tribe that was wiped out by the Israelites to the last man.
They've been wanting to kick the Palestinians into the desert for decades, they drew up plans on Oct 13th that they'd erect tent cities in the Sinai desert where they'll move ALL the Palestinians in Gaza, permanently. That's why Palestinians don't want to leave even though they might get bombed, they know they won't ever come back.
Notice too how Israel has released no data and not even made any claims as to how many Hamas fighters they believe they've killed. That's because they don't make the distinction between Hamas and anyone else in Gaza. To them, it's 10 thousand Hamas fighters, or potential Hamas fighters, or Hamas supporters. Sadly, the way Netanyahu has chosen to prosecute this war will have ramifications for a long time - such as these young women are describing. I’m sure many people of Palestinian origin could describe similar feelings right now as well. Netanyahu’s own words, and words of his ministers have been described as “inciting” genocide by many Israeli academics and scholars and what we are seeing in Gaza lends credence to that accusation. Anyone who condones the Oct 7 attack is disturbed, but I believe anyone who condones Netanyahu’s response is equally disturbed. We essentially have leaders on both sides so blinded by hate and notions of revenge that they are becoming sociopathic. History will ultimately decide where blame belongs, but Israel, as the senior more powerful entity in this conflict has a responsibility to act in ways in accordance with international law. Netanyahu has killed as many civilians in three weeks (many of them children) as Putin has killed in two years, and Putin is a war criminal.

@rebeccalaff853 Silly comment. I'm irish - an atheist who isn't anti-semitic - and it's perfectly valid to point out the one-sided nature of this debate on this clip. To be crystal clear so that you can't chuck cheap slurs at me - Hamas are evil terrorists who would also murder Me too, and their murderous attack on Israelis was evil, and wrong, regardless of the oppression Palestinians endure under Israel's crushing control. Deep sympathy to ordinary Israelis, and Israeli or other Jews, murdered by those terrorists, as well as everyone else that Hamas murdered.
That should be clear enough - hope you can See me too, saying that.
And having said that, I'll echo the view from the Republic of Ireland - called Europe's most hostile nation by the Israeli government, even though We suffered decades of sectarian and political terrorism ourselves - which saw Our leader say yesterday that a Lot of Israel's actions right now look like revenge, not justice. Bombing hospitals? Bombing ambulance convoys? Slaughtering Thousands of civilians, deliberately, consciously, and claiming that Hamas were the targets?
I'll also point out that plenty of Jews, including Israeli Jews, have also criticised the attacks on Gaza, and the killing of civilians there. So, what, are you going to call critical Jews antisemites? Say that They're not 'Jewish enough', if they criticise Netanyahu?
I think You need to sit down, and let people express sympathy for both Palestinians *and* Israelis, and also allow people to call for Israel's destruction of Gaza, and slaughter of civilians, to stop.

Lost in all this is the repeated nullification of men. Wherever the topic of the terrorist attack or the retaliatory manoeuvres of Israel are being discussed, it’s _always_ the women and children victims being talked about. Innocent, civilian men were killed, too. It’s kind of gross no one seems to think that matters.

Everyone are victims, but I suspect only men are perpetrators. I’d love to see the women taking over leadership of both sides for six months, and empowered to make consequential decisions. We might see very different priorities and even novel solutions.

My heart goes out to BOTH the Palestinians and Israeli civilians and their children.
If there is any hope for peace and coexistence between the Palestinians and Israeli people, it will take great, great strength, courage, working together, and God's help.
I pray that one day, this could be possible.
I pray that young adults all over the world at colleges all ages will come together on both sides, walk hand in hand in peace for PEACE.
Hate only creates more hate, division, and destruction. No one wins in war.
So, I pray for both the Palestinians and Israeli people, their children. Palestinians and Israeli people deserve a better life and without living in fear. God bless the doctors and nurses on both sides trying to help the injured. Thank you.

@ottomechanic1370, I like your post, however the line "and God's help" I take issue with.
Perhaps it is that very concept of "God" which is the root of the rift between these peoples. The Koran speaks of killing non-believers and the other scripture speaks of "The Jews being the chose people of God" if they could put down these ancient beliefs and rather see there common traits then peace has a chance. Both ancient texts condone acts which make one side feel superior which leads to a clouding of the facts.

I'm a supporter of Israel and All her people. I've had the pleasure of visiting Israel a number of times and have personally observed the Gaza and West Bank, speaking with many young people and shop keepers in the old city. What I discovered is there are a great many Arab/Palestinian, whom have no interest in violence, seeking peace and interaction with the Jewish community. However, their patience was and obviously is running out relative finding a solution to the profound difficulties of life as a Palestinian in modern Israel. Until such time as the whole story and issues of quality of life for Palestinians is addressed, there cannot and will not be peace.
