- A young woman coming south from Scotland accepts a lift from strangers. It's a dark, stormy night and she needs to get home. At first all goes well, then the car breaks down.
First, some credits. Sound effects are by the BBC, Freesound and me!

I hope you liked my corny 1970s horror movie style thumbnail.
I’m a jaded horror buff-heard it all, seen it all, huge yarn. But this one had me on edge holding my breath to learn what happens next. Truly a masterful piece of suspense horror. Well done. Well done.
And just how in the hell did it take me 2-3 years of regular Creepypasta indulgence to find this channel and then hear a story I genuinely wish I hadn’t before bed ? A real classic with no lucid dreaming wankery or magic televisions from the future and best of all no alternate dimensions that lead me to a place where I no longer have any idea what the hell the story is about. Just a straightforward story that would have scared me half to death as a kid and did quite a number on me even in my dotage. If this is the kind of story I’ll find here then this is the start of a long and beautiful relationship. All good things to those who wait indeed.
That’s a lovely comment. I used to write more fancy stuff but these days I’m old school
THIS is the scariest story I've heard on RUclips in so long. And I do mean that this story REALLY had me on edge. I'm sitting here in the dark, with only the light from the tv and the desktop screen. I listen to a lot of so called scary stories that do nothing to me. More than half the time I don't even get a twinge of delight from some stories...I'm not talking about yours Tony...but all in all...this is the scariest story I've heard in a l o n g, l o n g time. From anybody. Whew.....now I have to go to bed...Good night...and THANKS for the true scare!!!
I’m really pleased you liked it
I normally drift off to sleep even when a story is gripping. However, there was no 'sleep drifting' during this fantastic tale. It gripped, held fast, and tore through like a canine through a steak.😉 Well done sir!
That is great praise. I am really happy you liked it
I freaking LOVE a good werewolf story!!!! I always hated the ones where there is hyper sexialization and gore, which seems to be common place these days. This, right here, has class. It delivers a grand immersive experience to the point you can almost feel the wet rain and the cold of the night. The air of mystery is palpable delivering a full body chill.
I definitely have a new favorite story.
Yeah. Old school werewolves
And vampires all the way. I need to write a story about a Mummy. Not a Mommy obviously
@@ClassicGhost Mummy Mommy out for revenge?
@@frerindurin3632 Of course. I have done the Ring of Thoth on the podcast. I'll probably post it on RUclips at some point.
@@ClassicGhost What about a mommy mummy?
Another amazing story Tony! I still have tingles going down my spine as I type this. This one had me creeped out from the very beginning. I actually like the SFX and music, they added another level of terror to the proceedings. Well done, once again. ❤🐺
I like doing the sound effects but the majority prefer the sound clean
Ah perfect. We're having a massive thunderstorm right now so I'm going to forgo my usual self-imposed "wait until dark" mandate for listening as this wind and rain provide a suitable atmosphere. Grabbing a cup of tea and settling in. THANK YOU so much, as always.
It always rains in my stories.
This one's a scary one. I listened after dark. Doesn't help that my name's Rebecca.
@@rebeccawoolfolk5377 ha! Sorry :)
@@rebeccawoolfolk5377 Is that Woolfolk or Wolf folk?
Super story and what a macabre twist
Absolutely frightening!!
Well done, indeed. Thank you, Mr. Walker..what fun!!
I STAYED on the edge of my seat this ENTIRE story! well done!
"...the house slept and suffered its nightmares."
Please write more stories! This was chilling. I was in bed in the dark with my eyes WIDE open!😱 Had to check the doors n locks, closets, under bed, behind shower curtain after listening to your story. Awesome! I've listened to it again a few times. I enjoy your voices and the sound effects, too.
I have a bunch of stories. I should have been writing today but it's too sunny
And the lesson folks, is always trust your intuition! Fantastic tale, brilliantly told. Thanks Tony. Cheers, Kitty.
No the lesson of the day is don’t lose your life over a brat…tell her once, tell her twice, she is on her own…I am not running into the woods behind a kid.i am not chivalrous,I WILL leave you out there.
Holy cow !! Scared me ...
I hate to say I'm pleased.
A WOW!!! Great story. Definitely a repeat. Gave me pause at the end. 💜
Ooh that was creepier than usual. And I missed your comforting chat at the end.
The suspense in this one is amazing: vivid images of staircases, hallways, dim lighting, dislocated sounds. Very thrilling indeed!
Glad you like the sound sound effects
Thunderstorm, coffee, Tony telling a ghost story...perfect.
Wooo, excellent!
I listened to this one while taking a walk in the sunshine but it still gave me the chills! Great ending, totally unexpected. Fantastic last line 😋😈🐺
Ha! Thank you:)
Oh I wish I had listened to it in the sunshine! It’s getting dark here!
New Subscriber!! I live in Carlisle, nice to hear it get a mention. Adds even more interest! I'm really enjoying your short stories, fantastic way to unwind on a Saturday afternoon.
Many Thanks!! 😊✨
I’m in Carlisle right now!
Very enjoyable
That was a truly chilling and fascinating tale! Your lovely accent added a quality to this story that made it even more riveting! Thank you so very much!
My lovely Scottish accent you mean...? Lol.
This...is an Excellent story! Well done!
Thank you for all these amazing/ beautiful stories.
:))))
You are a bloody champion, a legend. Thanks for adding the rain. Hi ho, hi ho it's off to sleep I go. Owe you a beer mate
Glad you liked the rain. Hope you sleep well
This is an amazing story and narration. Damn fine writing and narration, Tony! Listened to this one twice today!
I absolutely love this one (I cannot say why because people who read the chat before listening to the story will complain).
You are a fine horror writer, Tony! This is a true work of art.
thank you Donald. it’s great to have your support :)
This story was excellent. Really drew me in. Loved the rain sounds as well even though I don't need them today. It's bucketing down here. ☂️
Ha ha. I have a fondness for sound effects. Not everyone like them though
Super creepy fragilistic extra hellish dopeness
Loved the voices and accent, and kitschy thumbnail!👏👏👏😷🇨🇦
In fact those are cats eyes
Oh gosh, what a story! Awesome 👍 gave me the creeps all through from start to finish
Glad you enjoyed it!
Wonderful, thank you so much. My favourite, an original piece by Yourself. So much enjoyment in store!
OOOOOH SNAP!...
Absolutely brilliant, Mr Walker, absolutely brilliant! Wow, what a twist, so good! Poor Rebecca, I can't believe this. And that Emma, oof!
Thank you so SO much for another wonderful story, this is master class story writing. And the narration is absolutely delicious, as always. Once again, thank you!
This was a good one
Your stories are brilliant. I still love the classics, especially when you read them but I definitely feel a strong sense of dread that slowly builds in a very claustrophobic way in the ones you write. I'm enjoying finding these new treasures 👏👍Thank you for sharing them 🥰
Found these great stories at Christmas 2022.Tony is a really great story teller and writer.
Very very creepy. Thanks for this one, it was really spine chilling. I'm really enjoying all of these eldritch tales. ;-)
Glad you like them! I will post more of my own soon. Not enough time at the moment
Ur truly one of my favorite authors tony I love ur shorts and ur novellas. Thanks for putting your children out there in the public domain for all us fans!

What a gripping and frightening tale. Held my breath at the end, thoroughly enjoyed it! 👍😊
I shouldn’t really be pleased you were scared…
@@ClassicGhost HAHAHA! Loved it!! 😍
Lovely story. Do miss the chit-chat at the end.
I did think of it but I had loads to do elsewhere
Tony, you are absolutely gorgeous writer! Thank you very much for your work- breathtaking, vivid and really great!
Whooooo! So much for falling asleep. What an ending!
Ditto this time around--great to hear it again! Thank you!!!!
pretty creepy...and pretty good....you can see the end coming well before it arrives, but it still has a bang to it...the narration is superb and that adds a lot to the tale.
Your voice is absolutely perfect for this type of reading 💕 Loving this 💜
Thank you so much! really pleased you like it
Damn! That was much scarier than I expected. Thank you (I think! 😂)
I hope that was a good thing
@@ClassicGhost It was so enjoyable, but I'm definitely not going to bed until my husband gets home.
Yoicks!
Okay Tony, didn't expect that ending and you told the story so well!
Thank you, I've enjoyed your narrations over this hot Canadian summer.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Excellent story, thank you!
What a thriller! Well done!
Glad you liked it :)
I really enjoyed this. I love this kind of relaxing slow paced silent horror type of genre.
Glad you enjoyed it!
@@ClassicGhost Thank you.
Yeah- this one is A BRILLIANT ONE TONY! REALLY, really a story to follow….into the night m a r e.
Your a brilliant story teller Tony Walker you really are.🤗
Thank you Trixy
Great writing mate, you should put your own work up more often...really enjoyed this.
Working on it!
How happy I am to have stumbled over this channel-- youTube on my tv. Decided to listen on my computer--so I can give thumbs up and read all the great commets. This is the second time I have listened to "The House in the Forest" and enjoy it the second time just as much as the first--catching new details second time around. Thank you! Enjoy your voice, reading style and all your different accents. By the way, what is "corny 1970 horror movie style thumbnail" ? :0)
I'm really grateful for your support
Just wonderfully creepy enough to feed m soul on this grey snowy afternoon in the hills…thank you!!!
Didn't see that ending coming!!! Great story Tony.
I'm enjoying your narrations very much, thank you :)
Oh, the suspense!
Slightly nervous about listening to this because I just got to stay at my friend’s house in the Redwoods in Humboldt!
😱
You describe Rebecca very well ...
Truly nightmarish with a surprising twist. Loved it thank you 🙏
The last narration you read, the signal man by Dickens, scared me so badly that I'm scared to listen again.
Oh no!
I can't wait to hear the up coming stories. Í anxiously wait for the next one. I LOVE you!!!!! 😉😎
The middle of next week I will aim to do another of mine. Maybe towards the end. Thank you
Brilliant!
I've just had a binge watch of some of your earlier stories I hadn't seen before. I almost wish I hadn't now that it's time for bed, lol. This was brilliant and had me holding my hands to my face, even though there wasn't anything to see. It reminds me of when I was a child and hiding behind a cushion when something got too scary. This one was really scary. Really good!!! :)
Thank you DevonExplorer. I need to explore Devon more
Terrifying! Glad it's daylight still and I am not home alone! Thanks for sharing your amazing writing!
Listened again. Such a delight!
Love this! Just as gripping forth time, if not more, listening anew the gripping narratating word images, accents, sound..." dull forboding". Always heed "dull forboding". Thank you, Tony. Only 2 years? So much has happened in that time it seems eternity.
Holy crap! I am officially hooked!
Oh gosh l definitely won't sleep now. Excellent story it really had me on the edge never expected that ending. 😊😊😊😊😊😊🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Good! (Sorry about the sleep)
EXCELLENT!
My parents had that trouble with their Ford. That's funny cause it's true!! Love your channel!
It’s true because it happened to me
Wow oh wow. Very satisfying; finally a twist I wasn’t expecting! Tony, did you write this one to warn your daughters about the dangers of hitch hiking? Excellent presentation and story! Am sharing with everybody.
Very pleased you are sharing. Yes, what was she thinking! But I suppose she was desperate. There was some back story about her boyfriend Marco, which didn't make it into the story.
@@ClassicGhost Just as well; no backstory was needed and this was a nice tight story.
WHOA! I am SO thankful I didn't listen to this in bed Tony! Pretty sure my heart stopped a few times as I got so pulled in by this story. Stories don't really affect me much, by my god, I'm gonna be careful when my two Black Labradors jump on my bed tonight, I'll probably scream the place down 😱 hahaha! Great stuff, thank you SO flipping much. xx
You are welcome Sue. It says something about me that I like scaring people though
@@ClassicGhost that's very true Tony, but you do it in a nice, calm way though 😄 I've still got the last words going through my head, we'll have this one raw 😱😱😱!!!
5 out 5 stars. Phenomenal. Cheers
Great story Tony!
Excellent work!
Glad you like it!
That's a good story, thumbs up from me.
Glad you enjoyed it
Excellent tale 👍
Brilliant. More please.
Brilliant. Very creepy!
Oh this is definitely my favorite of yours so far! The suspense and terror in this one had me on the edge of my seat. 😮
I kept wondering if the old woman was the wolf spirt as a shape shifter XD
aha! Very pleased you enjoyed it
Really enjoyable, thank you
Glad you enjoyed it
I loved it !!!🐺🐺
This was great , I’m home alone! It’s been rain all day. Good thing it’s daylight. Lol
:)
What a corker. Very atmospheric
Great Scottish accent! Nicely written!
Thanks :))
Good job! I didn't guess the ending until the end.
Creepy! Your stories are good.
Thank you 😊
Wonderfully atmospheric and creatively builds suspense. Who is the narrator, what a fabulous voice. Are there more spooky tales read by him?
Oh yes! On this channel it's all read by me. I have done some books on Audible and elsewhere too
@@ClassicGhost You have audio books?! I'd love to purchase one or two, or 7, 10, baker's dozen or so for long car trips and such. Where to get your audio books, please?
@@puca7908 You can get them from Audible and some other places.
That was fantastic!
Thank you very much!
Gruesome ending but great tale to listen to
Very Nice!! Do you have your content elsewhere besides YT? Gab, Bitchute.......?
2:16 I knew when dad and daughter gave each other a look that Rebecca was in trouble.
Why oh why didn’t she get out and walk ??
There can be nothing better than a family sharing a midnight snack.. Although our's usually go for sandwiches lol
Don't listen to this on a road trip...
