Another great video. The Saturn is one of my favourite systems with so many classic titles. My fave genre, shooters are well covered on this system. Though I see why you had to include Radiant Silvergun in your list. It's one of the more well know shooters and allowed you to cover the other systems gems available from other genres. For me Battle Garegga is one of my favourite systems on the system, but damn is it hard lol
I wish I still had a Sega Saturn to this day because I missed out on a lot of good games for it. I mean, sure, the console didn't have that many Sonic the Hedgehog games, but it had tons of fighting games from Capcom, Sega, SNK, the Mortal Kombat series, Dead or Alive 1 and some other Saturn games that I never heard of. And the superior RAM cartridge that the Saturn had was the Action Replay Plus cartridge, which was a 3-things-in-1 device, meaning that it would allow you perform cheats in your Saturn games, save your Saturn's game data and break the region encoding allowing you play imported games on any Sega Saturn model of your choice, which was awesome and the Saturn was also backwards-compatible with music CDs as well.
My "must-haves" would include Magic Knight Rayearth, Keio Flying Squadron 2, Super Tempo, Lunacy, Yumimi Mix Remix, Saturn Bomberman, Rayman, Shinrei Jusatsushi Taromaru, Nights into Dreams and Powerslave or Sonic R.
Thank you for propping virtual on. I never could find the game in the states when I was a kid but I played the one-battle demo so many times. It was a very fun game.
I love the Saturn. My original console was stolen years ago I actually had Dragon Force and other great games. My brother gave me a Saturn and I'm starting to collect Japanese games so far I have purchased Darkstalkers 2, Xmen vs Street Fighter, and Street Fighter Collection. I'm going to slowly buy more. Such an awesome console. I'm definitely buying some of the games on this list.
great list, I have some more titles to look for now. I graduated from the Sega Genesis/Megadrive/CD to the Saturn, those are my two favorite systems to this day
1. Virtual On 2. Nights Into Dreams 3. Panzer Dragoon 2 4. Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 5. Warcraft II 6. House of the Dead 7. Virtua Cop 2 8. Virtua Fighter 2 9. Daytona USA 10. Die Hard Trilogy
I concur with the masses: dragon force and panzer d. saga. Also think World Series baseball deserves a mention, it was the king of the baseball sims during the 32 bit era
Excellent list, tallies very closely to my own favourites :) Other worthy mentions, Shining the Holy Ark, Virtua Cop 2, Fighters Megamix and Panzer Dragoon Saga. I've never gotten to play Elevator Action Returns, but it's unfortunately way too expensive to pick up now :(
exactly at the same things of the others systems. there's absolutely no differences between each systems. Nintendo is still creative but maybe not for long.
Sega Rally, before Gran Turismo and Initial D, was a great flash in arcades centers! It was my main reason to but the Saturn before the Playstation! No regrets and great memories
As someone who owned a Saturn when I was a teen, I think this list is pretty solid. I think Dragon Force probably belongs in the console's top 10, but your milleage may vary.
Ive started my Saturn collection a couple years ago, its just a shame so many games sit listed at several hundred dollars anymore. I bought one after playing a friend's growing up and never having one of my own. Id like to actually play some of these games, but its definitely a collectors market right now where too many people buy them to sit them on a shelf.
Hey buddy! Congrats on 2000 subscribers! You are moving up fast, and is well deserved! I haven't played a Sega Saturn in the past but what you shown really looks fun. Panzer Dragoon looks like my type of game, love on rail shooters. Great list of games buddy.
+NintendoCade Gaming hey thanks Danny that means a lot mate. If you like star fox I say you would absolutely love panzer dragoon. There was one released for the original Xbox which is the best version to get! Happy new year by the way!
So many great games to mention. Dead or Alive was so graphically good on Saturn that it shocked Sony and it played just like the arcade version. Dragon Force is a unique warsim RPG and IMO it's one of the best games on the system. ManxTT Superbike had fantastic graphics if you can look past the low draw distance and I felt it was very true to the arcade version. Some people didn't like Fighters Megamix because there was less detail on most of the characters but I was a big fan of Virtua Fighter 2 and Fighting Vipers and having all those characters (plus many others) in one game was amazing. All of the Capcom fighting games which required the RAM cart were fantastic and basically arcade perfect. Finally, Last Bronx is a competent fighting game that sadly never made it out of Japan.
If you can get a good deal on it, try Ninpen Manmaru; a very nice 3D platformer from Enix with decent controls for the time (in my opinion, better controls than Croc) I don't like the fact you can't attack and you have to race the computer to collect coins in order to finish a level, but I still enjoy it.
This is a solid list! I'll definitely come back to it whenever I finally get a Saturn, one of the few consoles I'm missing. I really wish I had one though! I think one of the first games I'd buy would be Daytona USA, loved that game in the arcades!
+Retro Power Up thanks dude I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Yeah it's a great console, sadly under appreciated! Haha yes Daytona! The soundtrack in that game is godly haha.
Virtua Fighter 2 also uses an interlace mode in game, so during rounds the game will run at 640x480i, and in menus/loading screens it will run at 320x240p. One of the very few games to take advantage of this. The only other example of a game from that console generation (that I know of) running at 480i was Chrono Cross for the Playstation 1, but it did the opposite, it run at 480i in the menus and 240p in game!
I believe resident evil 2 for the n64 featured a resolution swap between menus and the main gameplay screen. Also, it swapped (not confirmed) between various screen shifts. Very noticeable if you used the extra ram pack too. Extremely noticeable if you try to upscale it with a framemeister which makes it virtually unplayable

I absolutely loved Sega Rally, especially with the Arcade Racer steering wheel. I have to say the games Panzer Dragoon Saga, Nights into Dreams and Burning Rangers should be re released into the current or next generation consoles they so deserve. I loved other titles like Alien Trilogy, Rayman, Tomb Raider and Enemy Zero too.
The release years are often incorrect in this video. Most of these games are nice indeed. Nights is great, Sega Rally is great, Radiant Silvergun is great, Burning Rangers is pretty cool, Shining Force III is fantastic! I like the first Panzer Dragoon better than the second. How about the Japanese version of Daytona USA CCE? The House of the Dead or Virtua Cop? Panzer Dragoon Saga? Command & Conquer is great, but maybe best played on pc? Dark Saviour is great if you like Landstalker on the Mega Drive. Deep Fear and Resident Evil are both great survival horror games. Destruction Derby is great, but better on psx. Die Hard Arcade is great for beat em up fans. Galactic Assault is a great shoot em up. Torico is a great D style adventure. Road Rash is great. Fighters Megamix is a great fighting game (prefer it over VF2).
Godzilla 73 Collect as in obtaining the original disks and packaging, yes, but "obtain", is an achievable goal. I set up the Pseudo Saturn soft mod cart and burn ISOs for games I want to play but can't get ahold of.
Original Gamer Stevie Strow yeah. I hear you. I may need to look into that. I know the Saturn has finally been hacked, so that may be a option for me. Id have to watch a tutorial on it first. Lol
Godzilla 73 I did which is how I learned to hack an action replay cart into the Pseudo Saturn soft mod, which works great. I don't support piracy, but there is no way to buy this games except from a reseller, no money out towards the games goes back to the originator. so I'm OK with doing this hybrid approach for games I want to play. I still collect what I can find and afford, there are plenty of deals on eBay.
Excellent list, very enjoyable. It's always difficult to narrow down to just 10 games with the Saturn. There's at least 10 more Japanese exclusives that would be good contenders for a top 10 list. As for Western releases good old House of the Dead and Virtua Cop 2 are my main reasons for still owning a CRT TV :-)
Policenaughts definitely would make my list, Saturn port was superior to the PS1 & love the recently released fan translation. Good Video James, I particularly like these more retro themes ones. Would love to see a Sega Game gear episode 😁

Knights Into Dreams is the biggest let down in my computer game life. I thought you could fly around at will. Nope. It's a 2.5d loop-de-loop ring collecting game. Pass.
Very solid list, I love the Saturn and specially enjoy all the SHMUPs for it. I mainly collect Japanese titles since that used to be the cheaper alternative but now prices are just crazy. The only thing I find strange is how many people praise Street Fighter Zero 3 when it is in fact one of the worst ports available (lots of slowdown and horrible framerate issues) It was the last game Capcom made for the system and apparently it wasn't developed by any of thier A teams. To this day the PS2 version on Alpha anthology is the only version considered to be arcade perfect.
@@ciredecgellar8232 Neither the Saturn version nor the Dreamcast version are good. They're only decent for casual play but far from arcade perfect if you're serious about the game. The Saturn version even runs at a lower resolution than the PS1 version. The PS2 version has always been considered the best by actual PRO tournament level players. It runs at the correct speed, has no slowdown, no input lag, runs at the correct resolution and you can even enable proper progressive scan (with component cables)

Damn! Almost every game on this list is $100 or more
No Panzer Dragoon Saga? No like, sorry. Saga had more its place in this ranking than a lot of these games.
Sonic R
Shin megami tensei devil summoner should b here
atari jaguar is better than sega saturn I'm a atari fanboy so I'm biased
It looks like Custom Robo ripped off Virtual On .
Dragon warrior
Very solid list, I love the Saturn and specially enjoy all the SHMUPs for it. I mainly collect Japanese titles since that used to be the cheaper alternative but now prices are just crazy.
The only thing I find strange is how many people praise Street Fighter Zero 3 when it is in fact one of the worst ports available (lots of slowdown and horrible framerate issues) It was the last game Capcom made for the system and apparently it wasn't developed by any of thier A teams. To this day the PS2 version on Alpha anthology is the only version considered to be arcade perfect.
You are right, I actually own FF Revenge and completely forgot about it.
@@RetrOrigin Saturn's Street Fighter 3 version is considered like the best convertion even better than the Dreamcast version .....
@@RetrOrigin DO you even play at the Saturn version ? it's absolutely not the opinion of players and game specialits ..... ruclips.net/video/U7Axa0t0qPA/видео.html take a look at that .
DRAGONFORCE
Pretty sure Sonic Team didn't make Panzer Dragoon. The only games they made for the Saturn were NiGHTS and Burning Rangers.
Astal
You should be slapped for leaving Dragon Force off the list.
Does the host have braces? It just sounds like something is going on with the sound coming from his mouth.
Most of these games don't even. Hold up today... You missed classics still playable today but included outdated crap.
Not one of those games are outdated crap. All gems.
