Took the train from Mexicali to the southern border, then buses through Guatemala to El Salvador, back in 1973. Hitchhiking to La Libertad at 10:00pm. Took over a shack on the point. 3 months of uncrowded Punta Roca!
Amazing man, truly fun without fights for one single wave, or waiting your turn (30 min) for example haha. Good vibes too man on that time, like a movie.
July 1991! Weeks of empty surf. Many days only 2 or 3 of us in the water. Returned in 1992 right after the signing of the Peace Accords...a few more folks, but still uncrowded.
Really brings back some fine memories but it's just ridiculous now a days in season kind of like most points unfortunately Anyways always appreciate you sharing and rubbing it in lol Be well my friend and God Bless You and Yours 👍🤙
hey! traveling there next week-seems like waves should be solid. Do you have any advice when it comes to accessing the wave, what boards to ride etc. I will be staying in el zonte but have a car. thanks!
Hey man! Sure! Nice That You will travel. First of all, el Zonte always will be bigger than Punta Roca. And Punta roca smaller. Punta Roca works good when is chest to x2 overhead. El zonte doesn’t work more than 8 ft because is close out. Believe me. Right now I really don’t know. How is the way for the parking because they are making a kind of public club 🙄. The locals are nice there. Short board is the best idea. If you wanna use a longboard in la Punta, better to be in the inside, ever and keeps going. When you finish the wave, specially when it’s bigger, Probably you will end in la paz ✌️ next to the pier, so be careful mate.
@@pineapplesurf thanks for the reply! I'm thinking of bringing only two board a fish and a good wave shortboard (5'11 rounded pin or similar). I heard crowds can get pretty bad at Punta Roca, is it better at some of the spots like k59/61 or mizata?
@@matteociccozzi2385 definitely mate. Mizata is more hollow than K59. But Punta Roca wins in perfection depending of the direction of the swell of course:)
Wish I could know what the buoys read (or even the Surfline forecast) on each of these videos to start better understanding the spot as I plan this solo surf trip and my boards
@@windy619 really nice to know that man, happy that it helps you to know better the surf places to go. Are u gonna bring 2 boards? I just broke by boards the last time
@@pineapplesurfyes 2 boards at least. Can only take so much time off work and the money for these trips. Best parts of my life these surf trips. No risks with the boards. maybe even bring 3! 50 guys out BUT whose jamming??? Here in Hawaii, men from the Boyz!! You want that 20 foot pipe terror drop, it's all yours, just commit!! Cause if you don't, yeeeee-ha!!
Hey man, yeah i know, if here is 50 guy, in Hawaii would be 100 :3. However sometimes in 20 foot pipe is possible to have lots of locals surfing, even thought is terrifying out there. Just the direction is crucial. Just watching people like Jaime surfing those bombs is sick!
Pta Flores near mango and the town can put up a tube right at the top sometimes, and “rumor has it” that there may be other waves in that area as well. El Salvador has been through a lot but the people are good and can use the tourist business. I’ll prob go back again at some point. Especially after seeing punta firing like that :)
@@wellscampbell9858 yeah man totally true. The people there are nice. The town of the middle west in that country are really nice too and can help us if we want to go by boat everywhere :)
The report said 8-10 ft but rainfalls maybe they make the wave smaller like. but honestly for el salvador it is a large size. I know that for Hawaii they are small waves
En el Salvador también se escucha mucho. Si bien vas a un restaurante del litoral, vienen personas a tocar musica de mariachi y otros estilos por ejemplo.
I'm glad I surfed there in 1975 when 6 people was a crowd and Rotherham was on the point......I mostly stayed at Zunzal but ventured to PR a few times.....those were the good old days of early surfing in El Salvador.
That place has so many fun setups tho. Going to PR when there’s swell is the same as any flagship break, a lot of the crowd is there because they saw it in a magazine or surf film. I’ve been to el sal many times, surfed the point a few times, and got tons of waves at many of the other setups nearby. Sounds like you won’t be out there, so that’s a start…
It's a trip how the ocean there sounds like a Mariachi Band. : ) Love the waves! Viva Nayib Bukele!

I remember this place in 1992, we took a school trip, i was a kid, i never forget this place it was awesome.
Punta is what we call, funnnn!! Ripping😅
Nice video. Way better to use Mariachi music than rock music cause it is more appropriate for the feel of El Salvador,
Yeah, I thought about that too. Thank you!
It was so empty in 1990!
Definitely
