You should listen to their long version, it is fantastic .
Yep
Most definitely!
As soon as I saw the length of this video I said the same thing
The better version
Eleven minutes and eleven seconds. Don't settle for less. Where this one finishes is where it's just kicking off.
You can’t go wrong with any CCR song! Their catalog is deep. Lots of hits.
Nobody doesn't like Creedence yet I don't think they ever had a number one hit which is unbelievable. They should have listened to the long version.
@@edprzydatek8398 they had the most #2 hits
John Fogerty is so funky and Cajun-souled, he took a straight Motown song and turned it into a muddy bayou of swamp rock and Creole-laced gumbo.👹😈💋
Fuggin' well-said, dude. 'Creole-laced gumbo' indeed.
You MUST listen to the long version to truly appreciate the talent of CCR.
I was thinking there's no way listened to the correct version if the video is only 6 minutes lol. Such a shame
Lol yep. 11 minutes right?
10000%%
Amen, Robert. You haven't heard this version properly until you've heard the long version....and LOUD!!!
This is a cover of the soul hit by the great Marvin Gaye, of "Motown" days. CCR's version in the early 70s was just as big a hit, if not bigger. Great song, great Classic Rock era Band.
Think Gladys night and the Pips were first to release this song
@@thomasbarr5940 That's right and she had a pretty big hit with it, taking it to number 2 on the Billboard charts. Her version had a faster tempo.
@@thomasbarr5940 I doubt that was the first. This song has been around forever. Someone probably heard it through the grapevine in the 1800s lol
This was never a single hit by CCR to my knowledge, but maybe I have forgotten. the short version does nothing for anyone compared to the full length album version. But the album cut [Cosmo's Factory] that FM radio played over and over....in 1970. Now you often hear it on the corporate classic rock playlist. Someone faded this out, it's about 11 minutes long.
Marvin gaye version 8 weeks number 1 think Motown biggest hit
This and "I Put a Spell on You" are the two favorites of mine. When you have a choice ALWAYS listen to the longer version of a song.
Now listen to the extended version on your own, like 11 or 12 minutes long. CCR gets down right funky on the instrumentals. You can tell they were really feeling this song.
Yeah I was like 🤷🏻♂️ where’s the rest of the song?! Lol
@@travislee9662 Same here
Yep, the full-length track is the only way to go here, the instrumental breaks are absolutely killer.
When I saw the reaction was 5:59. Yeah, they just got cheated.
It basically turned into a jam session.
"Born on the Bayou" ,"Fortunate Son" , "Sweet Hitchhiker" are also a must CCR listen!!!! CCR are American rock and roll icons!
The band took the original song and elevated it with this amazing cover
CCR are definitely one of the greatest bands ever. And when I hear this particular song from them, I get disappointed if it’s not the 11 minute version. It goes on and on and I love it!
Normally i would just switch off the shorter version...i just feel short changed, excuse the pun
I'm so glad you guys are checking out CCR! They are one of those classic bands that has completely stood the test of time. I think you guys would really like their song I Put A Spell On You (another cover they did). And just so you know, you listened to the extremely shortened version which cuts out some amazing instrumentals that I think are the best part of the song. You might want to listen to the full thing on your own time to get the full experience. Keep it up ya'll, and shout out to you Berto!
The non-shortened version is like 11 minutes long. Sorry, but long songs are a tough sell for reaction videos. It is like reacting to the 27 minute version of Freebird.
Dont you think theses guys are ready for daryls house now though?!
@@Roushlamn I mean sure but John Fogerty's guitar work is kind of the whole point of Heard It Through The Grapevine. It's like listening to the shortened version of Blinded By The Light or Sultans Of Swing without the ending solo, there's no point.
Loved it when Marvin blessed us with it, then CCR put this out...loved it all over again!!
❤👍🏽🥳
My favorite version was when the California Grapes did it...
@@ffjsb I remember this.... cool!
This was my big brothers favorite song to dance to while BBQing generally wearing aviator glasses, wife beater, cut-offs and combat boots. Real class act.
Oh no ! The long version please as it an absolute must as it has one of the best jam outtakes in rock history
This is the radio edit. You guys have to do the full version! That guitar solo is longer than the entire rest of the song! Lex will love it!
This is probably the best cover of this song. Classic.
Another CCR song with something of the same kind of swampy slow groove is Suzie Q. I was surprised when a relative hearing the first bar for the first time smiled and started doing The Stroll. That 50s dance is perfect for that beat.
‘Hey Tonight’ is my favorite CCR song. They probably have 10 hits that are more popular, but for my money that’s them at their best.
It's incredibile how every video you guys roll makes me shed tears. You guys are true.
Hugs from Venice, Italy
Been waiting for this one long time!
"Run through the Jungle" is a must listen.
The 11 minute version isquite the JAM!!!!
Long version rules
I think Born on the Bayou, Cotton Fields and Someday Never Comes are their three best songs.
CCR my favorite all time band every one of their songs are awesome , Bad moon risen, cotton fields, out my back door,Travelin band Proud Mary ,Fortunate son etc all awesome !
The long version has such a killer jam session
He said,"Hoid it." 🤣
Awesome that you're doing this amazing song, but this is the shortened AM Radio version. You need to do the full length FM Radio (Album) version!
CCR is a Northern Californian band that does southern rock and it's amazing
The recording and release of the various versions of this song were all over the place. The first to record it was Smokey Robinson and the Miracles. Marvin Gaye recorded it next. Finally, Gladys Knight recorded it and was the first to release it. Smokey Robinson’s version was released just second followed by Marvin Gaye’s. CCR made their version in homage just a few years later. So the question of who was the original artist is never easy as depending on what criteria you use it can be either Smokey Robinson or Gladys Knight.
I guess since none of them wrote it, probably best to just tip the hat to the original songwriters, Whitfield and Barret and then appreciate each recording in its own right vs trying to worry about who should get credit as the original artist. Although CCR's version was a clear cover (and a good one at that).
I like Gladys Knights version the best-it rocks the most
You left out the truly classic California Raisins version ;-)
CCR was a short lived group, but they have more number two hits than any other rock group in history. I think they also have at least one number one.
2/1/22, 4:55 p.m.
Never can go wrong with CCR
Used to watch a Credence cover band in the country pub here just on the outskirts of Melbourne 25 years ago ,man it used to get so packed and the whole PUB every person would be singing along and the pub would literally be bouncing from the beat and the dancing .Best music ever !!
This is the radio edit of the full approximately 11 minute album version. You really must give that a listen. The swamp sound these 4 guys from the Bay area in San Francisco make is brilliant.
The long version extends that outro instrumental to the max.
The first rock song I ever got my dad to listen to was CCR's "Proud Mary " After that he was hooked .
Proud Mary is an absolute gem of a song
You can tell when Lex likes a song. The couch dance tells all.
CCR is awesome. They weren't together very long but basically everything they did was gold. Such an iconic sound.
The live version of that is stunning, it's longer with incredible guitar solos.
CCR!!!!
Brad, you and your brother share the same smile, both very handsome young men!! ❤️🖤❤️🖤
Glad you enjoyed this crazy song, I was pretty young the first time I ever heard this group, maybe about 11-12. I liked their song: (Down on the Corner!!) Hope y'all have a great day...🌞🌞🌞
The all female punk band ‘the Slits’ did a great version too
Love it 💖💯 Love it 💖💯 Love it 💖💯
Good ol American rock & roll..
Listening to this version over the 11-minute guitar romp is like ordering filet mignon and eating just the veggies.
If you heard the full version..............WOW!!!
This is from a very underrated album, Born on the Bayou. Lots of great tunes on this album; Penthouse Pauper, Proud Mary, Born on the Bayou, Keep on Chooglin'.
This is actually from 'Cosmos factory' and 'Born on the Bayou' is tremendous.
They also did a couple of covers from a blues legend. Lead Belly. Nirvana also did a cover of his. Do the research if interested.. people comment if you know what I am talking about
You def want 12 minutes of the greatest back beat in rock history
That guitar solo is actually cut from about a 10 minute guitar jam. When you have time vying should look up the extended version.
What a lovely family you are. Made my day. Lex is so upbeat. ''Hoid it through the grape vine.'' Luv me some CCR.
Yessss i love this one!! "I Put a Spell on You" is also fantastic! CCR has SO many great hits!!
Gladys Knight & the pips were the first to record Heard it through the grapevine, CCR had the longest version of it, and Marvin Gaye had the most popular version of it.
Actually, Smoky Robinson & the Miracles were the first to record it. Marvin was the second to record it. Berry Gordy initially elected to release neither of their versions. Gladys & the Pips were the third to record it and, with approval from Gordy, the first to release it.
Should have done the long version. Epic guitar solo/jam.
2:50:"SWAMP!"(got that swamp sound;)
She called it!:(cause she made me think of "swamp thing movie from the 80s and "born on the byu" plays at the beginning;)
CCR, a bluesy, swamp rock group, great cover of a an old R & B Motown song from Marvin Gaye. Song is really longer though, long musical solos. This was the shortened version. CCR has done some great covers for other Motown songs too. very good.
Amazing band and John Fogerty put out some really good songs solo as well, as for his CCR days all the songs were great, off hand Born on the bayou was huge, been on several movie soundtracks, Run through the jungle, Fortunate son, Down on the corner and many more were really iconic songs, no one else sounded like them, but if you get into more be sure to check out some of his solo songs Centerfield and The old man is down the road
Love the opening on this one.
Edit: Slightly unrelated, but have you guys done the Doobie Bros. "Long Train Runnin'"? - I'm pretty sure Lex would love the sound.
gotta listen to the full version now 👌
Going into sixth grade.....I remember my teacher had this gorgeous long, black hair and - looking back on it now - a definite hippie vibe about her. I remember one of her first in-class assignments to us was, "Write about what song was your favorite over the past summer." Right up my alley! My ultra-cool uncle had given me a copy of Cosmo's Factory the previous May, and I discovered the long version of this song. All that summer I kept coming back to that song, that JAM, and so I wrote about this song. The next day at school she had a tote bag with her, I noticed, and during the last period of the day she called me up to her desk (the other kids were talking/studying/looking at the clock longingly). I thought, "Aww, shit, what did I do NOW?" and was surprised to see that the tote bag was full of vinyl albums, mostly CCR and some others I can't remember (except Steppenwolf's "Monster" was definitely among them). She had this really surprised, pleased look on her face and asked me, "You *really* like Creedence Clearwater Revival?" I said, yes, of course I do. Then she gave me the tote bag and said, "I want you to take these records home and listen to them. They are important." She asked what other bands I liked, so I said Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, The Stones, The Who, The Doors, The Yardbirds, Grateful Dead, The Kinks, Deep Purple, etc. etc. etc. You see, most - if not all - of the other kids had written their essays about Duran Duran or Pat Benatar (Here I am, showing you my age 😁). She was shocked and more than a little surprised that an 11-year old kid was into the music from "her" generation. It's funny, I moved away not long after, so I was only in her class for a few short months. I will never forget her, though, because she was a positive influence on me and encouraged me to keep listening to great music. Ok, if you're still with me, thanks for reading my book!
Can’t help but think of the California Raisins dancing to this. Used to love it back when Hardee’s gave them out in happy meals.
the long versions of this one will get into your bones, and several other songs they perform from that era are so great in that same way.
they were not around very long, career wise, but they rank up there in the top echelons of music of not only that era but still today.
You should find them just to listen on your own, not even for the reaction but just to get into their versions of the deep souls of those long versions that they do.
Lex you have the most wholesome energy
Love me some CCR. Legendary band.
You mean the California Raisins didn't write this song!!! Love that commercial!!
Y'all should do The Midnight Special
Hey it's my favorite guys again. I think one of the things that draws me to the reaction stuff is that like anybody you like for people to enjoy the music you like you like introducing people to something new in and see if they like it and if they like it it makes you feel good and I think that's why reaction videos are so popular not all of them because some people just don't do a great job they're not personable it's not for them but that's cool but different in the shot hello to your younger brother their bread hope y'all have a great day
Getting ready to watch- I’ll go ahead and say this is definitely my favorite cover of theirs! Of course the original I had is mad respect. ZAPP and Roger also have a version I played often growing up-💖💙✌️
Love ccr. Check out “who’ll stop the rain” by them it’s a great song
It's a great song. Is it titled "Have You Ever Seen The Rain"?
@@ORagnar that’s a different song by them, although they are both great!
@@tramvis2521 -- I must have heard it, I've heard so many CCR songs. I'll have to go check it out.
Great band and great reaction again. Fortunate Son is another great song by them.
I've commented on your brother being in your reaction videos before but he is a great addition. Let him talk more because he is our future.
can't go wrong on CCR....but you guys already knew that!!! "Bad Moon Rising" next please!!
Bathroom on the right!
My favorite by CCR is "Run Through the Jungle". It's a short but sweet song. "I Put A Spell On You" is also one of my favs. They had a lot of hits!
Run Through the Jungle is a great song! I'm also partial to Down on the Corner and Looking Out My Backdoor.
yeah... like everyone else said... this is the radio cut. need the full version to get it. keep it up. u guys are great.
The percussion on this is EVERYTHING!
A terrific reaction by all three of you to my favorite CCR song - enjoy that rabbit hole should you decide to follow up on this one. We could all kinda tell that Brad and Bert were enjoying the song, and there was no doubt (as wonderfully usual) that Lex would be likin' another serving!!! You folks are a pleasure!!!
Now go put your headphones, lie on a bed in a dark room and listen to the 11 MINUTE long groove version. Sheeeeeeet!
This is unfortunately the edit version. The full length version is 11 min long and worth any of its minute. This is one of the greatest epic in history.
Even Brad is head bopping….He likes it !
Lex , you have such a Beautiful exuberance for life ; your reactions always brighten my day 🙂
Her thumbs were going off to this jam!
Know every CCR song by heart, love this song. Ramble Tamble is the song that brings the tears, the guitar is too much for me.
imo CCR was THE best band of the 60s. They were the Nirvana of the 60s, to me. EVERYbody liked some CCR back in the day. hard to catagorize them ....Blues, acid rock, Country who knows just sounds cool
Love Creedence, they have a million great songs.
Other than Fogarty's great vocals, the drummer makes this song.
One of my all time favorite songs is Long As I Can See the Light by CCR. You should listen. It's amazing. It is one of the most soulful songs you'll hear.
IMO - the definitive version of this! ♥
CCR was a very interesting band dabbling in R&B , country, some rock. All over the place
This was originally a #1 hit for GLADYS KNIGHT and the PIPS, in 1966. It was written for Motown by Norman Whitfield and Barret strong. It was then recorded by Marvin Gaye, and finally by CCR. They all had a hit with this song, although none of the performing artists wrote it.
I agree with previous comments that you MUST listen to the extended version... Fogerty on guitar is awesome!! Another MUST by CCR would be Susie Q!!
Hearing it through the grapevine just means a flow of gossip.
I like that smile 😄 makes me smile
The song is written by Barrett Strong and Norman Whitfield, great Composer for Motown Records. This song has Versions of Marvin Gaye, Glady's Knight & the Pips, Ike & Tina Turner, Amy Winehouse, Smokey Robinson, Rare Earth, Temptations, Joe Cocker and many more.
Hi B&L., Someone mentioned Mr. Marvin Gaye, but they forgot Ms. Gladys Knight & the Pips.. ♠W.G.
This got some soul! Love it! Thanks for reacting to it! Love your reactions!
CCR … its pretty hard to go wrong with them. Pick any track from any album, and it’s practically a guarantee you’ll love it! The last couple albums were getting less consistent, but anything before that was 100% gold! There are some more popular songs, but really, theyre not that much better than the others, as the others are pretty equally good! Personal faves are Midnight Special, Run Through The Jungle, Ramble Tamble, Night Time Is The Right Time (Ray Charles cover), I Put A Spell On You (Screamin Jay Hawkins cover), Green River, Effigy, It Came Out Of The Sky.
You owe it to yourself to check out the full 11min version of Grapevine. The shorter radio version might stick close to the original, but that extra 7minutes of noodling is pretty phenomenal… you wont regret it!
I really like you guys are really listening to the music and to the lyrics.
Greetz from the Netherlands
CCR’s version is “swampy” Marvin Gaye’s version is “soulful”. Both are great songs in their own style, but I still favor MG’s original version.
Well, Gladys Knight & the Pips did it first, then the Miracles before Marvin's masterpiece, and it was written by Norman Whitfield and Barrett Strong, so I'm not exactly sure which version is considered 'original'
@@johnharkness7114you are correct, Gladys/Pips version was released prior to Marvin’s. But, Smokey/Miracles recorded it first in 66 before Gladys and Marvin. Marvin’s version was the most popular, just like the version of “Nothing compares 2 you” by Sinade O’Connor is even though Prince wrote and recorded it too.
@@miguelnavarrete3893 Thanks, Miguel. All I know, I learned from wikipedia ;)
@@johnharkness7114 I know what you mean. I use Wikipedia and google to remind me of times and events I lived.
Every CCR song is a hit in my opinion
One of my favorite tracks ever right here
One of if not the best cover ever done, tune
Every time I hear this, dancing raisins pop into my head.
