I just asked for an offering of a G20 M340i sedan and in the timespan that it took the dealership to get around and write the offering. The actual retail price of the car dropped by a grand. This happened all within the same week. It is finally moving in the right direction boys.
also recently I've seen so many Corvettes, both new and old. I think that this is a sign that either they're depreciating, or people are getting a lot richer (less likely)
It’s kinda valid though cause food is a necessity so people notice it more hence the daily expenditure shoots up but cars aren’t that essential so people are willing to wait and see what happens. Everyone knew the situation would cool down it was only a question of when.
I think this is something nice about a consumer vs a voter, a consumer at some point has to shell out money to 'vote' and sway the economy, so even if the consumer is dumb, most of the time the limits of how much money someone has will force someone to priorities more important stuff and in a way self regulate the economy.
When I saw a Miata selling for almost 20k in my country I knew we were hopeless, thanks for telling me there is still hope, I'll see what I can do to get a cool car for a cool price in the near future
Good to hear mine just went out at 85pmh. 355000 miles on a 2002 Honda civic 5spd. Quarter sized hole in the Block at cylinder 3. I figuratively punched that Honda in the face for years before it blew up on me 😂 But a motorcycle ain't going to cut it over the winter, glad to hear it lasted just long enough for the market turn
Honda's are no longer the go to cheap car. Now it's the mustang 2010 and under. I have a 00's mustang and at the time, there was 2 other mustangs of the same year in my area. Now, I see 10 at the supermarket, 7 around my work place, literally an entire lot of 30+ of them at my old highschool parked near each other. I swear there are less Silverado's and F150's combined against the 00's mustang alone. They even beat all other year mustangs combined. Im upgrading my turbo setup and tires soon. I wont tell you where but if you're driving through, you have a 90% chance to be surrounded by mustangs and if you're in a mustang, you've joined the pack, even if it's for 15 minutes. Still my dream car is and always will be the R32 base model. Sadly, the cheapest running one i could possibly find online, lot's, and driveways was at least $28k. Friend's dad had one when i was younger, may still have it. Right hand drive, 3 years since imported straight off Japan's soil and concrete. Even though it wasn't mine, i felt a deep connection with it. I sound like someone in Initial D, " I felt the car speaking to me and I raced it doen the mountain with no fear" 😂

All the dealer lots around where I work are packed. Like a mile of full lots and empty showrooms. My guess was the announcement that student loans aren't going away on top of cooling inflation..
I'm midway in the video and he only talked about a few higher priced car and I think it's related to something he said in a old video; that if he talks about a low price car he will make people jump on it has a trend and make the price go higher (like the na mx5, nsx, etc) Great vid btw!
As far as I know, CarGurus doesn't "project" prices. They use the prices dealers are putting on them, to create a "trend line" using Price vs Mileage for each model year. This creates a function that can predict the value. But it is crucial to understand that the price drops are initiated by the dealers. May sound counter intuitive, but if a dealer can sell a car faster by showing them as "Great Value" and unlock their capital to get more inventory, they'll drop the price.
Seeing the C5 and C6 be more affordable than a GT86 while being something you can build for 200mph with little effort makes me happy. Too bad I already replaced my GT86 with an RX8

I do regret buying my c5 in 2021 during peak prices (paid 17k), but i have put 20k miles on it since and thoroughly loved every second of it. I could probably get at most 14k for it now, which isn't terrible.

used car prices are pretty good right now too, you can actually find Civics, Saturns, Cavilers, Neons, etc for around $1000 again which is nice, I'm not doing super well financially so my rule for buying cars is to buy outright so I don't need to budget for loan payments while I'm still struggling to save enough money to move out of my parent's place before I'm 30. and even though those cars aren't "cool" by most car guys standards, I think people need to lighten up and realize that putting a turbo on a cheap car is some of the most fun I've had with a vehicle in a long ass time.

Sadly, Honda BEATs and similar are very unlikely to drop within that range, given they've been averaging closer to $10-15K where the trucks and vans have been averaging more along $3.5-4K.

I was super pumped to see 90s and 00s FWD coupes (and even some RWD ones) don't have super crazy pricing (yet?). just got a car for daily commutes with the help of my parents. to be honest, i got insanely lucky. my mom has amazing credit, dad helped with the down-payment, and i refused to budge on my $400/month limit when talking to the salesman. (for context, im a college student)
he helped us look at a few options, eventually landing on a base model 2024 corolla, and we negotiated a cheaper price to stay within my budget. dude was still pretty cheeky about it tho; literally gave us $399/month (the bastard)
still, it's a brand new car (and a reliable one if my friends' judgements are to be trusted) with a lot of really nice features that aren't too overindulgent. i also intend to keep the car well after i pay it off, and i want to learn some basic car mechanic skills to maintain it affordably.

also recently I've seen so many Corvettes, both new and old. I think that this is a sign that either they're depreciating, or people are getting a lot richer (less likely)

Everyone: *Going mental over $10 more on food*
Also everyone: *Completely fine with a car going up by $20,000*
It’s kinda valid though cause food is a necessity so people notice it more hence the daily expenditure shoots up but cars aren’t that essential so people are willing to wait and see what happens.

Shhhh, I don't want everyone to start buying those Mustangs and drive the prices up

My dealer was talking about how Jeep Compasses were easy to buy in 2018-2019 you could buy 2 for 5k under MSRP each. They raised the price a bunch and have a lot full of Compasses down the road.
used car prices are pretty good right now too, you can actually find Civics, Saturns, Cavilers, Neons, etc for around $1000 again which is nice, I'm not doing super well financially so my rule for buying cars is to buy outright so I don't need to budget for loan payments while I'm still struggling to save enough money to move out of my parent's place before I'm 30. and even though those cars aren't "cool" by most car guys standards, I think people need to lighten up and realize that putting a turbo on a cheap car is some of the most fun I've had with a vehicle in a long ass time.
I work at a dealership, gonna be so glad when prices are way down again. 1, for sales and 2, so i can get my dream mustang

This is true with everything, even housing, there has been a steady decline of housing pricing over the past few months, its not much but its noticeable. Just hold out for a few more months as long as nothing catastrophic happens and things will be priced in a fashion it makes sense again.

I wonder if the >25yr Kei imports are gonna see the drop, despite never having really seen a rise. I've been wanting to get something among the Kei trucks and vans for a long time, and if they start consistently showing under $2000 I might, in some fever dream, be able to afford one.
Sadly, Honda BEATs and similar are very unlikely to drop within that range, given they've been averaging closer to $10-15K where the trucks and vans have been averaging more along $3.5-4K.
Consider elevated service costs and down time with ownership because of the lack of parts availability. It may be cheap to buy, but it would not be cheap to own, given its size.
