I got tears when Lee joined you 💙 Long story short didn’t have chemotherapy either. I took Tamoxifen for a year. Not confident enough. A month later after mastectomy (right breast) had breast implants surgery. I traveled to the 🇵🇭 a couple of months later for our 35 year high school reunion. Here I am almost 10 years cancer survivor and I thank my savior Jesus Christ everyday. God bless you both and safe travels.

Hi! Im from the province of kalinga (neighboring province of Mountain Province where Batad and banawe is located and just about 2 hours away) and now currently studying Culinary here in Perth WA.
I just stumbled upon your videos and I do agree that Vegan or Vegetarian options in the Philippines is very slim to none especially in small towns like batad because veganism and being vegetarian is really not a thing there but I sure do hope that they will add a vegan or vegetarian option to cater tourists who are plant based.
so glad you visited the country side where I’m from and not just the islands and beaches where the usual tourists go. Thank you for visiting 🫶🏼

@@JulianA-om4si Thank you so much for your lovely comment, and for your insight into Filipino cuisine, especially in the small towns and villages.
I think the addition of more vegetarian and vegan whole-food plant-based dishes would be a great thing for the locals, as well as for tourists. The whole Unli white rice concept, eaten for 3 meals per day, really can't be good for people, and we did see a fair few big stomachs around.
It's fascinating that you're doing Culinary studies in Perth. Haa it changed your preferences re: the food you eat? I absolutely love Spudshed... my favourite place to shop!

    Hi Mandy (+Lee),
Everything went so fast between the diagnosis & the operation.
It must have been a hell of a time for you both to deal with cancer while doing everything abroad but somehow you've managed.
Enjoy ur weekend, take care 🙋🏻‍♂️

    • @FrugalTravellers
      @FrugalTravellers  3 месяца назад +1

      Hello SERGIO 👋
Yes, everything seemed to happen so fast... received the diagnosis of breast cancer in Sri Lanka on the 11th July, surgery back in Australia on the 24th August, then on the 6th November we were flying to Manila.
I feel so blessed to have been able to stay with my wonderful sister and her family in Perth, as learnt so many things from her about eating a whole-food plant-based diet, as she was vegetarian years ago.
I really believe that this emphasis on completely changing my eating habits, and doing things like preparing black beans and chickpeas from scratch, feasting on raw fruit and vegetables, and drinking my 3 cups of green tea every day really helped get my body and mind back to wellness... and the 30-minute daily brisk walk as well.
I miss eating that way... we're currently in India, sweltering in New Delhi, and there's no way I can go for a brisk walk here or eat loads of raw vegetables.
I'm so fortunate to have Perth as a base and to be able to load up on healthy eating whenever we go back there.
Oh, my sister and I will be going to Thailand for 3 weeks on a sister trip. She's never been to Thailand, so it's going to be so cool showing her around one of my favourite countries... and showing the possible clashes between a frugal traveller and someone who'd prefer a 3-star hotel 🤗🤩🤣 ~ Mandy

Thank you, Imo. My Journey to Wellness videos will now slot in with our normal vlogs, as it's way too confusing having 2 seperate timelines 🤗😁 I really struggled with finding vegan food in the Philippines... it made me realise how fortunate it was that I received the cancer diagnosis in Sri Lanka, with its plethora of fresh tropical fruit and veg, and amazing vegetarian and vegan dishes. I'm going to Thailand with my sister in August for 3 weeks, so will be aiming for a completely different way of eating than in my many previous visits there... it will be so interesting to see if there are many vegetarian or vegan option, as they put fish sauce in almost everything! We hope this finds you all well... greetings from a very hot and hazy New Delhi 🤗😁 ~ Mandy

Unfortunately, I’m also part of the cancer club. My experience has (so far) been very positive but my ability to travel is limited 😢 since I do need chemotherapy treatment every three weeks. Please continue to provide us updates on your health and travel. Cheers. -maurice

I know that you are on your way back to a healthy life, full of joy and happiness, and I wish you all the strength and positivity necessary to do everything you possibly can to help your amazing body heal itself. There are so many other amazing people, such as Dr William Li's Eating to Beat Cancer; Mel Robbins for incredible self-help and positivity as well as interviews with experts; and Marisa Peer's Healing Voetex hypnotherapy. I immerse myself in all of this wonderfully positive information, and it alleviates any fears or doubts I might have. Hillary, I would like to send you the biggest hug imaginable 🤗♥️ You're so right, we have definitely got this! There are loads of brilliant podcasts that have helped me greatly... I have been meaning to add them in the Pinned Comment so will do that today. Receiving a diagnosis of cancer can be a terrifying thing, but we can do so much to help our wonderful bodies heal, by making changes to our diets, our exercise, our emotional and spiritual beings. I still have sharp twinges of fear from time to time, especially if I find anything that seems like a lump, but have slowly learnt to take a deep breath abd talk myself through the panic to a state of calm positivity. I absolutely love Louise Hay... somehow I missed hearing about her until about 6 months ago, and she is now my mentor and guru... and she was diagnosed with cancer twice and lived into her 90s. Another awesome thing to listen to is Marisa Peer's My Body is a Wellness Making Machine RUclips videos and podcasts. Our friend Eva sent the 1 hour interview with Vishan from Mind Valley to me when I first told her the news about the diagnosis, and I swear, it was so incredibly helpful in those early days in Sri Lanka. Huge hugs and best wishes, Hillary. You are amazing and you've got this xx♥️ Mandy

She only eats organic eggs but no more chicken. She is doing good so far. Sending love to you and your family (^o^)/
