    A lovely little machine...
    I got mine for two days and I am a bloody beginner.
    I have the same problem as many of us, that it spins and spins and does not take the yarn in. In such a case I play around with the tension, without any result. I have a feeling that there is a secret correlation between spinning speed and tension. As a beginner I am working with lower speeds and therefore I can hardly find the right tension.
    I realised that the hole in the orifice reducer is very small, so that the hook can not get in at all. In this video I saw that it must be normally bigger. Anyway, this is not a real big problem.
    I am going on searching for the secret rule with spinning speed and tension. 😉
    Many thanks for the video.

    When mine came, the intake reducer hole had a burr on the inside. Instead of trying to file it off, I had some metal grommets from a craft project that fit the hole perfectly. I just superglued it in place. Worked great.

    Has anyone figured out a solution to the uptake issue? I have tried everything. Tbe list online with suggestion, have been through all of that as well as anything else I can think of and I am not able to consistently get uptake. I am about as beginner as you can get so i waited for my sister to get into town to test it out. She has been spinning for years and unfortunately she has having the same issues. We have taken it apart, oiled, screwed, unscrewed, messed with tension…by the way, there isn’t much of a difference between no tension and the highest tension, so we swapped the band out for something less springy. I’ve had this for a few months now and I just want to spin.

    Mine arrived today. At first, it took a while for me to spin some roving but it didn't take long for the muscle memory in my hands to draft the roving and things leveled out and it spins like a dream! I love it! I already wish I would have ordered the EE 6. It's on my wish list.

    I just bought a Nano 2 and it does NOT work for me. It will spn the leader yarn but it REFUSES to spin fibre. I have watched loads of videos and no matter what l do, it still doesn’t spin 😭.

    I got my Nano2 back in November 2023 and before even getting it, I watched all the videos I could find that featured it and its predecessor, including this one and other troubleshooting videos.
    One thing I found is that it’s better to stick down your leader with tape than wedging it between the threads of your bobbin, like a lot of users seem to do. If a bit of the yarn pokes out inside the bobbin it can interfere with uptake.
    For those who experience sudden uptake issues when they’ve been spinning for a while: if your bobbin is unbalanced because you didn’t move your hooks often enough, it can affect uptake. This makes me think it can be very important to make sure your bobbins are on straight, because unbalanced bobbins can cause issues.
    I absolutely love my Nano2, she spins like a dream and now I’m saving up for its big sister because even though I prefer to spin lace weight and cobweb weight yarns, which gives me plenty of yardage on one bobbin, I’m now getting requests for thicker yarns from friends. Not to mention that it’s nice to have more than one spinning wheel… sometimes you don’t want to go faffing around with bobbins when you want to switch from one project to the other.
    I was wondering: would you ever consider developing a foot pedal for a Nano?
    Anyhow: thank you for developing this wheel. And thank you for posting all those videos, they were really helpful when starting out.

      There are a few videos about making foot pedals for the eew nano on my RUclips channel. I don't plan to make one though.

    Thanks for all the info! I received my nano last year as part of the kickstart. One question, I didn't receive any suction cups, what size do I need to buy?

    • @DreamingRobotsBlog
      @DreamingRobotsBlog  11 месяцев назад

      You want to find something with a stem diameter of 6-7mm. It's probably easiest to just try a few sizes.

  • @JuliaRebaudo

    Yes I have the same problem as above! Zero uptake on the bobbin even with lead yarn - does the bobbin need to be static for the yarn to wind around it? Or are they moving at different speeds to achieve uptake? Does the tension lead create force on the bobbin to achieve this? I have tried different tensions.

    • @DreamingRobotsBlog
      @DreamingRobotsBlog  Год назад +1

      It is a scotch tension system. So as you increase the brake band it will slow the bobbin rotation relative to the flyer.

      @@DreamingRobotsBlog thankyou, yes I realise that now. My band is way too stretchy I think - I know what to do now 👍 Vampy videos v helpful too esp the tension one

    I just started with mine and the bobbin does not free spin when it has nothing on it = like the pressure between the bearings is too tight to start with. I'd be happy to send you a video for diagnostics.

    So, after reading comments, I am having the same issue as a lot of people, where I’m getting no uptake at all. I’ve take the orafice reducer off and played with just regular yarn attached to the leader so I could mess with the tension and I’m still having the same issue. No matter what tension I’m at, the bobbin spins right along with the flyer and no yarn uptake. I have put tape over the leader and bobbin and still nothing. Now, I saw one person say that when they have their tension really high it puts a lot of pressure on the flyer but my tension doesn’t go neatly that high. Once it gets to what I would call medium tension and I turn the knob to increase it more, it goes right back to zero tension, is it supposed to do that? The only way to get yarn on the bobbin is when the machine is off and I manually hold the bobbin still as I rotate the flyer around it. Can someone please help me? I just learned how to use a Diz so I have some beautiful pre-drafted wool here to spin and I am at a total loss.

    I’m needing help with troubleshooting! My bobbins will not spin freely on the flyer without any tension when they are on the base. When I take the flyer and bobbin off the base it spins perfectly! At first I thought the bobbins weren’t screwed together tightly enough, but they are. This happens with all the bobbins. Could the cradle arms on my base be angled inward too much? Could all of the bobbins just be too long? I tinkered with one of the bobbins and filed about a quarter of a centimeter off one of the threaded ends and was able to get it taking up yarn, but I don’t really want to have to modify all of the bobbins!

    • @DreamingRobotsBlog
      @DreamingRobotsBlog  Год назад +1

      The arms can bend inwards and add a little friction. That is normal. Bobbins can't be too long. One option if there is too much friction is to add a little oil or dry lubricant around the ends of the bobbin.

      Thank you SOOO much! I had tried everything suggested all over. But when I sanded off about 1/8" of the bobbin's center tube, it started to take up the yarn as it should! I'll prolly hafta do this for all my bobbins, but at least it's not an issue anymore!

    Can’t get the fiber to be pulled into the bobbin, just spins and spins on the outside; it’s not being pulled in.

    I'm so frustrated, even after watching this video 5 times, and quintuple checking every point in it. I can't find a sweet spot, where it will both spin and wind. No tension on the bobbin and it just spins with the flyer, but put the slightest tension on the bobbin, and it creates so much pressure on the flyer, I'm afraid it will burn out the motor. I'm fast closing in on 'give it to the goats, to play with'.

      Did you get it fixed? I’m having the same issue, but my tension band doesn’t get as tight as yours does. Once it gets even a little bit snug, it goes right back to zero tension.
