I saw this band for the first time as a 15 year old kid at Sheffield City Hall in 1971. I last saw them at Buxton Opera House last year (2023). Personnel changes apart the band were still as awesome now as they were all those years ago when I first saw them. I bought their debut album from my mum's catalogue and I've still got it. I've played it to death over the decades and it still sounds great with hardly a scratch on it. I bought Argus the day it came out from my local little record shop in Chesterfield called 'Some Kinda Mushroom' I've got most of their albums on vinyl and still keep playing them. The later ones I have on CD. I'm 67 now and this band have been part of my life. Thankyou so much Andy Powell. A true stalwart to British music. Superb interview Pete. Thankyou for having Andy on your show. Phil Tennant. Derbyshire England.
Wishbone Ash ! Pete this is great. I had a conversation with with Mr Powell via Messenger. Really awesome gentleman. I reached out about something , This is a awesome interview about a legend and who cares about his fans
One of the best interviews i´ve ever seen , great channel , saw wishbone ash at the Oval London way back in the seventies been a fan ever since .......Pete Pardo I salut you great work
Brilliant interview, I met Andy and Martin Turner in my hometown Waterford Ireland after they played a gig at a theatre in the town in1996, we chatted for about half an hour or so, extremely nice people. They even signed my Wishbone 4 CD.
Always loved Andy and Wishbone Ash! So glad Pete asked about his guitars behind him. I can’t believe the Tele was used on a lot of his recordings. I would have thought it was all his V’s!
Alot of albums I know I harken back to Argus and Pilgrimage albums and love to pull out Live Dates album. I saw the iconic Wishbone Ash -new years eve 1971 Dayton Ohio the opener was Eric Burdon Band and great New Years Eve concert. All the strong songs from those albums I mentioned here. Thanks Andy and the band for that memorable time.
I remember my dad taking me to see wishbone ash and after the gig talking to Andy I told him that I thought he plays fairly well, my dad wanted the world to swallow me up ha ha I was maybe 17 However Andy is a really lovely guy and and amazing guitar player and I was just blown away by the band, went on to see them about 5 times
In my opinion, the outro solo of "Sometime World" from Argus is possibly the most underrated solo ever. I always think that Lynard Skynard heard it and said, let's write a song like Sometime World, and then they wrote Freebird. Definitely NOT a rip-off but a similar feel and similar dynamics under the solo. Amazing guitarist is Andy!
I absolutely think Freebird is a rewrite of Sometime World. Freebird is great but Sometime World is better. Angus was the first album I ever bought back in 1973 and it's still in my top 10 of albums. Love those early WA albums.
Great Interview, still have that Home album the Alchemist on vinyl, think they also appeared on the OGWT, and didnt the drummer or bass player go onto play with AC/DC ?
pete you really should have joined andy for a duet on guitars, what a claim to fame that would have been, you played with andy powell. great show, c'mon pete lets see your licks
Had the absolute pleasure of meeting Andy and his wife after the show at the Barnyard in Cape Town in June 2019... And I have the photo on my fridge to prove it 😎
Andy do you know an old fan from mersey area named John. It might be the case that I have his album and meant to give it back a long time ago but I have never been able to track him down.
Saw these guys live a few times here in Buffalo, NY. Once at the Century theater, had front row seats, once at the Tralf, a very small venue. Absolutely loved hearing them both times and had the opportunity to meet them at the Tralf, great group of guys. Argus is still one of my favorite Lp's. Thanks Andy, for some very enjoyable listening.
My Wife has been a Wishbone Ash fan since day one and seen them many times years ago. So when they played at Southport November 2019 I surprised her with tickets. What a fantastic show! We got to meet and talk with the band and have our programs signed. I got to shake hands with all the guys and talk gear with them. The gig reminded me of the 70s, we could lean on the stage front and drink pints of beer and get refills when we wanted. So chilled and a fantastic night. All the guys and Andy's wife are really nice people and I would like to shout out Mark Abrahams as an amazing guitarist and performer who compliments Andy perfectly. Bob Skeat has an amazing bass sound too. Fantastic band an long may they prosper!
Oh Freakin Wow, ESP just got done listening to both Coat of Arms and Blue Horizon then i noticed your latest video with Mr Andy Powell how freaky is that Mondo Bizzaro i love it ... great interview pete thanx for your expertise
What a pleasant surprise! Wishbone Ash gigged for at least twenty years in The Netherlands, sometimes even more than once a year. Very faithful to their crowd of fans. Andy is Wishbone Ash
Pete, That was a great interview and you did a great job. You knew you subject and asked pertinent questions. Just a brilliant interview, very very enjoyable.
I love bats 19:20 keep wondering if I'm hearing things now and again! In as much as we get bats that come into the garden every noe and then and I have communicated with them on my bat detector yes they can hear it!
My first ever concert, October 1970: Teargas (became The Sensational Alex Harvey Band), Wishbone Ash and The Keif Hartley Band. I fell in love with Wishbone immediately. Great to see that Andy is still carrying on.
I'm glad you introduced Andy as a founding member not as the founder member of Wishbone Ash. As much as i like Andy, i feel biased because having read Martin Turners biography , there are a lot of issues between them both. I also like Martin as well, so it's a question of hearing one side of the story, against the other. However they both wrote some fabulous music and i wish they could settle their differences for good.
Wow, Wishbone Ash is one of my favorite progressive, hard rock, bluesy, folk rock (eclectic music) bands! I saw them in Madison, WI, in a club called Headliners in the 1980's, and remember being utterly blown away by them. I loved their albums, but they were fantastic as a live band. I still list that as one of the best concert experiences I've ever had.
Wishbone Ash. Without which we wouldn't have had Lizzy, Maiden and who knows what else. Metal as we know it would be a whole different album, possibly.
Wonderful interview thoroughly enjoyed that. What a great humble man, musician, loved seeing that V. I definitely have to go out and purchase some more Wishbone Ash cd`s (new one is coming ).. Thanks so much, hope to see some other musicians on your channel..
Wishbone Ash were the first proper band I ever saw, or was it Uriah Heep? No I think it was Wishbone Ash. That was at De Montfort Hall in Leicester and I was still at school. I still remember the line up of Orange amps and the wail of the twin guitars, although it was a long long time ago. I still have a treasured copy of Live Dates and it's time I added to it.
This was awesome... loved the early Wishbone Ash albums as a teen... lost track of the band really over the years but thanks to you I have rediscovered them again. Argus and Pilgrimage remain two of my favourite albums of all time but it was so amazing to check out the recent stuff and discover that it stands up so well.
You’re knocking it out if the park content wise Pete lately. Look forward to hopefully seeing more of these chats with our heroes and legends. I’m off to give Argus a listen now
Well done boys. that interview was a real blast. I would love to have a pint or two with both of you guys and talk Rock N Roll. Pete and Andy are salt of the earth guys and this was the real deal. I'm going to pick up a copy of Coat of Arms asap. Again well done boys!!!!
Pete, you are a great interviewer, so relaxed and you let your guest talk. Ash are in a very good place at the moment the line up is special, and the new album is very good.
Wonderful guitar player. Andy's solo on the Live Dates version of Throw Down The Sword is probably the most beautiful electric guitar solo I have ever heard. Saw the band in the mid 70s and, as a bonus, in Johannesburg in 2019.
Cool. I Sa Wishbone Ash in Sept. 1977 at Messehalle Nurember/Germany (support I always thout was Country Joe and the Fish. But I'm not sure anymore, because I couldn't find anything on setlist.fm). The second WA show was at the legendary Golden Summernight Festival 24/08/1980 in Neunkirchen am Brand, 25kms outside Nurember/Germany. They played with Ted Nogend, Johnny Winter, Molly Hatchet, Judas Priest, Saxon and Gillan Band. Great memories.
I was at that concert in 1977 in Nuernberg too. And then saw WA a week or so later in Munich. Front Page News was the new album then. Great memories. I think you're right about Country Joe being the opening act.
Andy is a great guitar player
Great to see/hear this interview!!!
What a wonderful.. Wonderful interview!

Live at the Marquee, 1983 - Andy & Laurie - truly magnificent.
Hi Pete - Excellent and absorbing interview.
Others probably said it better but I thoroughly enjoyed this

A few months ago, one of my friends and I got on a Wishbone Ash kick, and started bringing up their music on RUclips....
This is awesome! Love all thosr vintage guitars! 😯
Thanks Pete, Wishbone Ash have a considerable place in my musical experience and JOY. Also thanks to Andy.
I picked up Argus in 1972 because I liked the cover and found my new favorite band.
Wishbone Ash were the first proper band I ever saw, or was it Uriah Heep? No I think it was Wishbone Ash. That was at De Montfort Hall in Leicester and I was still at school. Hi Pete! Hi Andy!! Hi Everyone!!! Hope you're all doing great guys 😎😎👊👊 I love Andy Powell's music and guitar playing.
Great interview Peter !! great Questions !! Andy is a really nice guy. I love coat of arms and so happy to have the seventies back !!
The tones on 1 and Pilgrimage are still relevant today, in fact a lot of people are reaching for that now.
Snappin Flying Vees together in your shed make a brew Martin.
Amazing guitarrist! He created some of the best guitar sounds ever with Wishbone Ash!
Great interview.
That solo from Blowin' Free AMAZING! I saw these guys in '76 with Caravan Tower Theatre in Philly. AWESOME!
Wonderful guitar player. Andy's solo on the Live Dates version of Throw Down The Sword is probably the most beautiful electric guitar solo I have ever heard. Saw the band in the mid 70s and, as a bonus, in Johannesburg in 2019.
