Drama is a GREAT album. We didn't realize, at the time, how groundbreaking and original it was... We were all so perplexed at the line-up change! Into the Lens is amazing.
True. I think a lot of Yes fans would rate it higher if it didn't seem like turning their backs to the original template. I think, however, after T. Rabin, the Trevor Horn version actually sounds more "Yessy" than people thought it did. It's great music on that album, on every level.
My list 10. The revealing Science of God 9. Awaken 8. And You and I 7. Yours is no disgrace/South side of the sky 6. Starship troopers 5. Roundabout 4. Siberian Khatru 3. Heart of the sunrise 2. The gates of Delirium 1. Close to the edge

My favorite Yes song is It Will be a Good Day, then Homeworld then Close to the Edge and then there’s about every other song is tied. 54 years of listening to Yes has been awesome.

Miguel, I totally agree with your list. I'm thinking of requesting And You And I to be played at my funeral, although I'm in good health and nowhere near dying, I hope.
Thanks for the heads up - I went back and listened to these songs and once again rediscovered the magic of Yes. Oh my, when you compare the music of today you can definitely see we are no longer in the "Golden Age of Rock Music".
1 Close To The Edge 2 The Revealing Science Of God 3 Siberian Khatru 4 Roundabout 5 On The Silent Wings Of Freedom 6 And You And I 7 Our Song 8 Future Times/ Rejoice 9 Tempus Fugit 10 Release Release Hi to you Pete , thank you for all your passionate videos , Happy New Year 2019.

I enjoy your show. Your picks were great. Close to the Edge is a great album . My two fave songs are Close to The Edge and Heart of The Sunrise. It is very hard to pick the top 10 Yes songs. I love prog rock. I never thought of Yes as a prog rock band in my younger days. I just thought of them is a rock band that I loved very much. I'm 65 now and still listen to them almost daily. I enjoy your show and I'm still learning new bands even now. Never stop learning & never stop growing. Music is essential to living & mental growth and well-being. Helps keep you sane!
I loved Yes from the first moment listening to Roundabout on the radio. Every album I got was like a revelation to me. The only album that didn't reach me was Drama. The longer the tunes were, the more I Ioved them. So to me the full side tunes like Relayer, Close to the Edge, and the four of Tales, are definitely my top. But not because they are better, simply because they don't stop so soon. But I love all songs from Yes. F.e. Time and a Word from Time And A Word, The Prophet, or Astral Traveller aso. F.i. I remember being called by a friend one sunday afternoon in about 1971 or '72. He told me: listen to this song on the radio - and it was Take A Pebble from Emerson Lake Palmer. I remember sitting there, crying and praying to God "Please don't let this music stop!". God bless you.
I can still put on Close the the Edge to this day and be transported to that place that only this band could take you. Every minute/second of that album is a gift to mankind. It’s a masterpiece.....by the way, I’m with you on Changes. It was great. I didn’t see that one coming.
Yes played South Side of the Sky on their 35th Anniversary tour. The arrangement was spectacular, featuring a dueling back and forth section between Wakeman and Howe.
I love South side of the Sky. It always gets overlooked. Whenever I hear it, it always reminds me of H.P. Lovecrafts At the Mountains of Madness. Not sure why but it always does.
I will admit that when I first heard and was just taken away by the album "Close to the Edge", when I was 17, in 81', Siberian Khatru brought tears to my eyes. The theme was so saturated with emotion and repeated again and again like a reminder of an ancient journey across a forgotten rugged and snow covered landscape (thanks to Roger Dean's inside album art) to someplace where all the stuff Jon Anderson sang about was true! 1. South Side of the Sky, 2. Yours Is No Disgrace, 3. Heart of the Sunrise, 3. Long Distance Runaround, 4. And You And I, 5. Close To the Edge, 6. Starship Trooper, 7. Perpetual Change, 8. Your Move, 9. On the Silent Wings of Freedom, 10. Future Times/Rejoice

I am surprised at how little love "Seen All Good People" gets in these comments. That song is so beautiful. It's one of those songs where, as you hear each note, you immediately realize it is exactly as it should be and it could not possibly be anything else. Plus the whole chess motif
For me it's one of those songs that I liked at first but at one point decided I just don't need to hear ever again. I think the reason is because it's so repetetive, saying the same line over and over again.

Excellent excellent list. That's basically my top ten is well, I would maybe tempted to swap Into The Lens for Machine Messiah but I do really like Into The Lens too. I like a lot of songs from Going for the One, Topopgrahic Oceans, early Yes and 80's Yes too but I would put those more in the top twenty.

Yes is the definition of progressive rock and I saw them 5 times in my life and they never disappointed me as I was completely blown away after every show and are still on of my favorite bands of all time as I never got tired of listening to them because they have so many songs to choose from which keeps it moving along and their personnel is always top notch and second to none. Great singer, great guitar players, great bass player fantastic keyboards and drums and writer's, Anderson, Squire & howe would match up to anyone in the world. Here's my top 10: 1- Starship Trooper 2- And You and I 3- Heart of the Sunrise 4- Roundabout 5- Close to the Edge 6- Perpetual Change 7- Awaken 8- Yours is no Disgrace 9- Time and a Word 10- South Side of the Sky 11- Shoot low aim High 12- The Gates of Delirium 13- I've seen all good people 14- America 15- Turn of the Century 16- The Silent Wings of Freedom 17- Long Distance Runaround/The Fish 18- Sweet Dreams 19- Siberian Khatru 20- A Venture Sorry, here's 20 instead I'm an old head & I like the older Yes, peace ! 🎸 🇺🇸
Great choices, Pete! I'm on your wavelength. God, I love Yes. Like you, I've seen them multiple times in concert. Slayed every time. I would give an honorable mention to the song everybody says was too commercial: Owner Of A Lonely Heart. In the context of what was on FM radio in 1983, there was Every Breath You Take, In A Big Country, Burning Down The House, Sweet Dreams Are Made Of This, Bowie's Let's Dance, Billie Jean, Down Under, Little Red Corvette and 1999, She Blinded Me With Science, Rock The Casbah, Joe Jackson's Stepping Out and Breaking Us In Two, Elton's I'm Still Standing, She's Sexy and 17 by the Stray Cats --- I mean, OMG what a year on FM radio and then in November, Yes hits the charts with Owner Of A Lonely Heart, which was like icing on the cake. Commercial, yeah, but damn good in the context or arena it was meant for and with those brass stabs it was cool at high volume.
One of the pioneering bands from Progressive Rock. I love it non-commercial tendency and opulent style of acoustic creations. Awaken with the return of the legendary Rick Wakeman is my favorite, as well as much of the creative engineering of the pieces from Yes's entire melodic arsenal. Howe, White, Anderson, Wakeman, Downes at Hall of Fame.
Nice work, Pete. This is fun stuff . . . 10. South Side of the Sky 9. And You And I 8. Revealing Science of God 7. To Be Over 6. Siberian Khatru 5. Awaken 4. Machine Messiah 3. Sound Chaser 2. Close to The Edge 1. Gates of Delerium

1. Siberian Khatru 2. Heart of the Sunrise 3. Close to the Edge 4. Roundabout (over-played, but I still love it) 5. Awaken 6. And You and I 7. Long Distance Runaround 8. Machine Messiah 9. Changes 10. Starship Trooper

And how can I forget the overplayed but still classic I've Seen All Good People, the classic Heart Of The Sunrise or Mood For A Day, which was the perfect way to introduce the epic finale to Fragile? That'd make a Top 25 list!

Yes has been among my top 3 favorite bands since I first got into them. I love so many songs by this band that making any list of favorite songs is tough. My tastes have changed over and over again through the years, and my top 10 is never consistent. But here’s my list based on the songs I typically love the most. Also, I have to pull a mulligan for number 10 because I have two songs I can’t leave out of my top list. 10. Then/Parallels - Time and a Word/Going for the One 9. Changes - 90125 8. 10. Close to the Edge 9. Changes - totally agree about this one 8. Yours is no Disgrace 7. America 6. Roundabout 5. Long Distance Runaround 4. Heart of the Sunrise 3. Starship Trooper 2. And You and I 1. Awaken I wanted to squeeze on “The Revealing Science of God” but I couldn’t pick one to remove, so here’s an honorable mention.
I saw Yes in 76 in Detroit... some of the concert has been released on the 'Yesshows' and 'The Word is Live' albums... I like that you mention 'Sound Chaser', but live it was a bit sloppy, Moraz kind of misses his solo re-entry, but 'Ritual (Nous Sommes du Soleil)' was a revelation... I was surprised, but have come to appreciate Topographic Oceans much more in the past couple of decades than when it was first released... keep on keeping on!
A tough one to come up with for sure. Close to the Edge is my favorite Yes album so that is on there. A couple songs from Talk and a song from The Ladder may make people say WTF!!!??? but they have special meaning and memories for me to not have them in my top ten list. 1. Close to the Edge 2. Siberian Khatru 3. Heart of the Sunrise 4. Wonderous Stories 5. And You and I 6. If Only You Knew 7. Going for the One 8. Yours Is No Disgrace 9. The Calling 10. Walls

I love hearing your list and comparing to what I like. I have Relayer and not being able to get into to it. So I would replace those two songs with maybe Starship Trooper, Perpetual Change or one of those two or 3 Drama songs.
1) Heart of the Sunrise 2) Changes 3) Yours is No Disgrace 4) South Side of the Sky 5) Siberian Khatru 6) Roundabout 7) Long Distance Runaround 8) It Can Happen 9) Rhythm of Love 10) Starship Trooper

Roundabout (Overplayed) but still awesome. No songs from the yes album on here. I like that album a lot, but none of the songs are something i listen to that often for some reason. And i love a lot of the more poppier stuff, and i will not be ashamed of that.
My fav prog band--- 1. Awaken 2. Gates Of Delirium-Yesshows version 3. On The Silent Wings Of Freedom 4. South Side Of The Sky 5. And You And I 6. Sound Chaser 7. Ritual 8.Circus Of Heaven 9.Close To the Edge 10. StarshipmTrooper wild card track--Arriving UFO.
I have never been as much a fan of Yes as of, say, Genesis or Gentle Giant, but they have released a couple of songs, say 10 to 15, that are amongst the best in the prog genre. The rest I hardly listen to anymore, although, admittedly, most bands would cut off some serious body parts to have a repertoire like this... Here are my favorites; most of them I prefer in a live version. 1. Starship Trooper (Keys to Ascension version, mindboggling duel between Steve Howe and Rick Wakeman!) 2. Heart of the sunrise (ABW&H version) 3. Siberian Kathru (KTA version) 4. And you and I (Symphonic Live version) 5. Roundabout (KTA version) 6. Clap 7. 8. Yours is no disgrace 8. Sound chaser 9. Long distance runaround (Live at Montreux version) 10. I’ve seen all good people (KTA2 version)

Thanks for the heads up - I went back and listened to these songs and once again rediscovered the magic of Yes. Oh my, when you compare the music of today you can definitely see we are no longer in the "Golden Age of Rock Music".

I didn’t see that one coming.
instablaster
I just read a writer's list of the top 20 Yes songs and they didn't include Close to the Edge.

I love "Endless Dream" .. My favorite of the Rabin tracks..
It's a great song and my favorite of Rabin songs is "Shoot high aim Low". Carry on & peace ! 🎸
Endless Dream is awesome. Saw it live. Great song!
Tempus Fugit and Machine Messiah are great, but so is In The Lens, when discussing Drama.
I am surprised at how little love "Seen All Good People" gets in these comments. That song is so beautiful. It's one of those songs where, as you hear each note, you immediately realize it is exactly as it should be and it could not possibly be anything else. Plus the whole chess motif
Agreed
For me it's one of those songs that I liked at first but at one point decided I just don't need to hear ever again. I think the reason is because it's so repetetive, saying the same line over and over again.

Nice! I love Wondrous Stories as well as the short and often overlooked White Car!
Nice work, Pete. This is fun stuff . . .

Cool list Pete. I've always really enjoyed Relayer also, plus the LP label is gorgeous.
You nailed it perfectly
I saw Yes in 76 in Detroit... some of the concert has been released on the 'Yesshows' and 'The Word is Live' albums... I like that you mention 'Sound Chaser', but live it was a bit sloppy, Moraz kind of misses his solo re-entry, but 'Ritual (Nous Sommes du Soleil)' was a revelation... I was surprised, but have come to appreciate Topographic Oceans much more in the past couple of decades than when it was first released... keep on keeping on!
Love this new segment Pete!! Keep them coming))
A tough one to come up with for sure. Close to the Edge is my favorite Yes album so that is on there. A couple songs from Talk and a song from The Ladder may make people say WTF!!!??? but they have special meaning and memories for me to not have them in my top ten list.

Great video Pete. All the songs you mentioned are excellent. One song I love that isn’t in your list is Turn Of The Century.
I love hearing your list and comparing to what I like. I have Relayer and not being able to get into to it. So I would replace those two songs with maybe Starship Trooper, Perpetual Change or one of those two or 3 Drama songs.
You should do just a top 25 with some of these huge bands with great discographies!LOL Love it

No songs from the yes album on here. I like that album a lot, but none of the songs are something i listen to that often for some reason. And i love a lot of the more poppier stuff, and i will not be ashamed of that.

Awaken was made in heaven
I have never been as much a fan of Yes as of, say, Genesis or Gentle Giant, but they have released a couple of songs, say 10 to 15, that are amongst the best in the prog genre. The rest I hardly listen to anymore, although, admittedly, most bands would cut off some serious body parts to have a repertoire like this... Here are my favorites; most of them I prefer in a live version.
1. Starship Trooper (Keys to Ascension version, mindboggling duel between Steve Howe and Rick Wakeman!)
2. Heart of the sunrise (ABW&H version)
3. Siberian Kathru (KTA version)
4. And you and I (Symphonic Live version)
5. Roundabout (KTA version)
6. Clap
7. 8. Yours is no disgrace
8. Sound chaser
9. Long distance runaround (Live at Montreux version)
10. I’ve seen all good people (KTA2 version)
