This is when Americans took pride in the Constitution and the American flag. Many people today take too much for granted they are about to lose their freedom if they don't wake up.
I was lucky enough to see one of these performances live (1976 SCV) and actually be a member of another (2007 KAC). Anybody who feels that a color presentation has no place in drum corps today need only look at the audience reaction to the senior corps. "nuff said.
I was in drum corps 1982 and 83. I love the 1970s drum corps and through the 80s. After that my enthusiasm gets kinda fuzzy. But let's all try not to be like our parents. Remember when you were a teenager and the hated the music you listened to?
Marched with a high school band back in the day and we played the Troopers Battle Hymn, but the fanfare closing was from the Royal Aires. Pretty much note for note.
I was a dm in a high school back in the day. I remember getting a penalty in a comp because one of our color guard members was positioned in front of the flag pres. We fixed it by having her back into her position and won Midwest Nationals in our class the next evening :)
Wow, this is amazing. I love watching old videos like this as it gives me, a young marcher, a better insight of what the activity was like in the byegone days.
You got that right stating with the Troopers Battle Hymn, but you left out the 1973 Racine Kitties America/God Save the Queen. One of the most moving of all time.
That's when people took pride in our great country and respected those that fought and died for it. God bless all those that lost their lives protecting our country and flag, may they rest in peace.
These are wonderful and make me long for days gone by. Though it wasn't a formal color presentation like this, my all time favorite was the Bridgemen Civil War Suite from the lat 1970s. Still get goose bumps from that.
The Boston Crusaders Senior Corps presents the colors at every show that they put on exhibitions. They will be in August in Quincy, MA and probably in Lawrence, MA
I think some corps are embracing some of the traditional concept we participated in in the Sixties and Seventies. But it would take discipline and stamina for them to per form M & M show the full 100 yds. That's starting line to end line, that's what we old timers did.
@pearlsnaredrummer77 Amen Pearl, the costumes among some of these color guard members don't seem to be appropriate. I don't evaluate all color guards this way however. Forgive for bring a moralist but this is an indication of degradation of people in our society, particularly of young people. My girlfriend and I are believers in Christ, so I tend to take this view.
@@tomlotter6937 Tom, I stated an opinion, it was one year ago, and for your information I don't drink anymore. I don't have total recall on everything I put here, I'm not Univac. But I will take your comment in stride and in good humor.
It has been and still is extremely disappointing to me and other old timers that the one Drum and Bugle Corps that could, should and doesn’t present the colors as well as any of these corps’ is the United States Marine Drum and Bugle Corps. If they don’t present the colors and perform a selection of their own John Phillip Sousa’s marches who will?
If you look at the number of competition corps (bands) today, vs. the numbers in the sixties and early seventies, it's clear that DCI is destroying the very 'activity' they were instituted to promote. I say, re-institute (real) marching, bring back 'G' bugles, and get rid of the electronics.
Yeah couldn't agree more. The gooood old days when the Veterans organizations, the catholic church, and the fire department ran drum corps. When Tony ....hicccup...Schlecter could threaten a corps with a 2 penalty for having the audacity to have a peace sign in their drill, when directors killed drum majors and corps had absolutely no control. BTW I started marching in 67 and my corp was sponsored by a catholic church, a shining example of morality and probity. The lower case c is deliberate.

And don't dare have a flag violation in the process! LOVE these old days, I was there!

God, I miss real drum corps with flag presentation, starting line and finish line.
Yeah kickoff and exit.
Those were the good old days of drum corps and I have to admit, it beats drum corps of today.
And with strict military bearing as well.
All Patriots go to Lindell TV. Then look at fix 2020
ALWAYS LIKED THE TROOPERS
They truly are AMERICA'S CORPS!
My son played in the Troopers, good memories!
wish i could find more of the old school corps, my father was with the original garden states men.. i grew up listening to it and still do to this day
something unique never to pass this way again , once was ....
Thank you for this. Want more of the original.

That's when we had Real Drum and bugle Corp. Showing respect for the American flag.
@@americanspirit8932 there's really only a handful of corps now a days with honor guards, all dca and US military if I remember correctly.
@@harpothekidrs3282 I totally agree with you, you are spot on. Today is January 25th 2022
Miss the early days of The Troopers...
Thank you for including a couple of 21st century alumni corps in that. I marched in the 2007 Kingsmen Alumni Corps show.

Though it's not on here the Yankee Rebels "Requiem for an Era has to be one of the greatest color presentations in drum corps history.
I agree with you 100% I am a former member of the Long Island Sun rises, 1964 through 1968. Back when we still had Real Drum and bugle c o r p s❤🎉
Flag-Pre was the portion of the show that always made my chest tighten up...

Weren't Bracken Cadets the oldest corp? This was great. Thanks 🇺🇲
Why not do this today? DCI should get back to their roots. (Cavaliers Sidearm 1977).
Great. Thanks for posting. Best part starts at 1:38 (Argonne Rebels). I was in Argonne until 1962.
God Bless America..

when the flag was something

Why all DCI corps ? There were just as many great DCA Color Presentations not represented here, especially before and after DCI came into existence.

BigHeartedMan, were you in Knight Raiders before or after the SIlver Lake Takeover?
Silver Creek, I said SIlver _Creek_ :)
Yeah, WHO TOOK AWAY THE COLORS PRESENTATION?
This is why I stopped watching/following drum corps after 30 years (1970-2000 or so) I dont even recognize it today
