The thing about restricting abilities to weapons is that it sets clear identities for those.
Allowing any ability to be used with any weapon does not really mean more choice, because players WILL minmax it out and just use the most optimal ones. Look at poe 1 - so many different weapons, and most of them are dead.

100% ^This. Using an axe/Sword - 2-handed axe while using slam and stun skills makes no sense. Stats and affixes can be alluring but I usually store it for another character.

@@nonyabeeswacks1919 Could be possible in different lore. This is Path of Exile. It could be Anime. That's what fantasy is about.
It also opens the design space - an OP unique axe or axe skill only interacts with axe skills, and even if its better than any other axe, only axe users will wield it. So it actually has the potential to differentiate both builds and weapon choices across the player base and reduces the likelihood of a single OP item or strategy consuming the whole meta. The POE system is like puzzle pieces that all fit together, it's not actually so great. The limitations reduce the total possibilities yes, but unintuitively the tradeoffs create harder and more *interesting choices.
People see color as a minor thing, but if a large area only has a few colors it really has a huge impact, at least to me. I remember playing Baldur's Gate 3, getting to the Shadow-Cursed Lands, which is a huge area just in black, white, grey and a little blue here and there. After finishing half of it, I had had enough and wanted to move on to another zone really bad. Not because of the story, but because of the color scheme. I needed something else.
I haven't seen any PoE2 area that I think would incur that same reaction. They have more freedom there, because the areas are map-sized. You don't have to spend hours in the same one.
I like the idea of most skills tied to weapons. It's not thematic if you use a 2-handed Axe and can use slam or stun skills. I get that sometimes that weapon has good stats affixes and such. I don't want to go down the D3/D4 route where basically if an item had green numbers, I equipped it. The more damage and defense the better. It made no sense that my Witch Doctor could carry a 2 handed sword and still use its skills. I'm still new to POE so my opinions may be moot.

In PoE any class can use any weapon, as long as you have the required stats of course. Also, the only skills tied to weapons are the attack skills. As far as I know, spells can be used by any weapon.
I hate the idea of PoE leaning on "thematics" to justify limiting certain skills to certain weapons. PoE has always been a game about freedom and experimentation. That's what separates it from other ARPGs. It doesn't have a rigid skill tree, nor item system, nor skill system. Moving towards that direction would be a major downgrade of the franchise IMO.
It's not "thematic" to shoot a fireball that freezes enemies, so does that mean it won't be an option in the game? In PoE1, there have been metas in which the strongest mages were berserkers. That's what makes the game special.
With that being said, I have fewer issues with GGG limiting skills to certain weapons for balance, though. After all, there are many skills with limited weapon choices in PoE1.

@@AD4- Jonathan did say they had a steam deck in the office now and tasked Trevor the console guy with taking a look at it, I bet with a custom profile it would perform pretty well the steam deck is a pretty powerful handheld when optimised.

8:55 i coudn't disagree more. It's D4 that is grey and brown and overall colorless. POE2 has way more colors just look at some of the textures in the dungeons they are sparkling with color.
Just a heads up, with the support gems, Jonathan said there will only be one support gem necessary. I believe they now will support all your skills that can use it rather than just one. At least that was my understanding of it. But it did say it when you were hovering over the gem. It said you've already socketed the gem. I would have assumed that from that description. Would be nice for a one time in game explanation of what that means though.
From what I hear from other players regarding Support Gems is that a few gems can be "re crafted" if you already have One (I guess that's the problem you were pointing out), for example if you had "Added Lightning Dmg Support" in one skill you cant refine a support gem into another "Added Lightning dmg support" and i think that Octavian said it was meant so for the player to "experience another gems combinations" (what is stupid imo but i'ma nobody)
It's because you can only use a support gem in your gem setup once. You can't put, say, GMP on every bow skill. If it's linked to caustic arrow you can't also link it in your scourge arrow setup. It's like one support per character
From what I've understood it is meant to make it so they are not in a situation again where like half of the support gems are unused by players, so limiting you to one for each support forces you to be a bit more creative instead of slapping the same few supports on every skill.
Especially now when they expect us to have multiple 6-links.
Radial menus ftw. I remember playing Everquest Online Adentures on the Ps2 and that game had the best radial menu ever. Better than most even now. Could macro anything to them. This is like 25 years ago lol
I think they need to expand the scope of players for this Beta. I’m surprised no one has mentioned if there was a controller to mouse switch up support.
There are times when I use controller for the gameplay because it’s comfortable but I am able to switch to using my mouse for inventory because it’s better.
I wonder if that type of flow will be possible. Hopefully so as that would be nice.
It will be possible…..but maybe not at release….its what they said.

People complaining about it being slow are so head fk'd by spending years zooming into POE 1. It becomes like a psychological addiction needing to clear the screen in an instant otherwise its slow and boring, the ADD generation.
I'm excited for this simply because no annoying mini map stuck in the corner of the screen

Balancing the game for both newbs and veterans at the same time is an odd obsession to have, because it is an obvious impossibility. Take the move that one shot you both there, now you know to stay away from each other to avoid this kind of situation. Odds are, it's a one time event and done, for a 6hours playtime type of game it's not a bad design but we're speaking about path of exile here. On top of that, pretty sure if you'd ask any long time gamer out there, most of them would naturally know this as a baseline. Because this is kinda genre-agnostic, even in fps games you know being spread out is best strategy to avoid a team wipe.
Then again, lately I hear more and more people malding about sweaters abusing strategies left and right and all that...But what the actual fuck ? We playing PoE here, not fallguys. That's not even an L take, it's just a clown take.
I don't know if the comparison with D4 is in line here. I believe they are 2 different games .
PoE2 bound to replace PoE1, for most, but it’ll take some time to flesh PoE2 out.
After eventually getting hooked by PoE1 I'm just excited for a chance to play the sequel from beta onward 😁
I feel like if they are serious about wanting more interesting combat that party size should be capped at 3 because with 4-6 it’s just gonna turn into D4 just shit everywhere running around fucking everything up and not combo/teamwork and interactive oriented.
I agree with this! Perhaps it can be up to 3 for campaign, then in the end game maps, they can change the cap to be higher?

Well. PoE2 gonna have years of updating like PoE1. It will be also much different in next 5 years after all tweaks. So there will be long way to go to achieve their ultimate goals.

How would you rate the Combatdifference for a Player who absolutely hate Soulslike-Combat?
This is not at all Soulslike. I personally dislike the combat in Elden ring, luckily POE2 has pretty much nothing in common with it.
I think POE2 looks so-so, but once released and it's gotten a year of hard testing i think it will be one of the best ARPG games ever. Hopefully they'll have great competition from last epoch and other games that pushes them on to deliver beyond what we see now.

They're definitely harder to see during co op. They get their own "skill" iconic in the hotbar.

How many have said they were wrong about POE2 now? GGG bout to kill PC gaming, well M&B anyway.
I'm really worried that more accessibility for newcomers to the genre will make the game too easy for more experienced players. Looks a lot easier than last time. Ppacks aren't that dangerous and neither are bosses. Last time, The Devourer seemed like a good dodge-roll teacher. Now it presents no challenge. It's a damage sponge. If we have good looking bosses, with interesting mechanics, it's a shame if they don't present an obstacle. It degrades the final impression of them terribly.

How about melee? do you think it's still clunky?
Melee is POE2 is better than in POE1, mainly because your attacks also move you toward the enemy rather than locking your character in place and the animations feel better as well, even at the early levels.
@@AsmodeusClips hopefully the melee skill can turn in any direction during skill animation so that it can have some fluidity.

There is no doubt that POE2 is going to split the player base. No gaming company can make an ARPG that is good for all players. You have to pick your poison. POE1 is designed and balanced around the top % of its player base. It is both casual and new player unfriendly. This is by choice by GGG. There is no way for a gaming company to make a game that is difficult enough for streamers and no-lifers to play but that is also casual and new player friendly. Those are two opposites that are difficult to match up. GGG has stated that they want to make POE2 new player friendly. They have also stated they want to make it harder. There is where the rub lies. The harder you make the game, the less new player/casual friendly it is. Either way, somebody is going to be disappointed.

It's DoA, for sure. This looks horrendous - forced Ruthless mode, and the game looks unappealing compared to PoE 1. Not to mention, the gameplay has no pizzazz nor zippyness to it.

I do not want enganging combat, I want to zoom through maps and watch Netflix on my other screen. For me satisfaction comes from trading and not satisfying combat, where I have to dodge a glowing circle on the ground. POE2 does not seem like it will be my kind of game anymore.

At low levels everything is better and more fun than in poe1 by a lot, which to me means that it should carry over to the end game based on everything I know. Pretty much everything about gameplay itself just feels better. If you like ARPG's in general you'll very likely enjoy poe 2 a lot.

Go back to holding down cyclone as you kill 300 enemies a second and spend 5 minutes looking through screens full of useless loot after everything is dead. You may enjoy that gameplay loop, but I dare say, most do not.

@@trashcanproductionsalem4969 There won't be 90,000 mobs, because as previously stated... the game is slowed down. Which is good. So you kill groups of enemies not entire screens of enemies. And yes, the loot is better, because they changed how it drops. High level characters have loot drops in high tier pools, not large range of worthless stats. You aren't finding lvl 1 gear at lvl 100. I'm not going to debate with you, I'm just explaining why you're an idiot.
