Mine just stopped last week. The piston stucked so bad,I couldn't even crank it. I will order a kit online, hopefully it'll work. Did You order original parts or after market? Thank You for your video, Brother ❤
Enjoyed the video. Thanks for taking the time to make it.👍 Just incase someone doesn’t know, theres at least two versions of this cylinder for 128LD. (I may have missed it where you mentioned this) One uses paper gasket the other uses rubber gaskets. If you have the rubber gasket be sure to get the correct cylinder because it has grooves recessed where the rubber gaskets inset. If you buy the wrong cylinder the rubber gaskets will cause the cylinder to not set flush and make the proper seal. Just sharing this almost got me, so thought I’d pass it along👍
Actually getting ready to do this exact rebuild today on the same exact weed eater, I consulted RUclips and found your video, I’ll give an update on the final result when done, thanks man for the walkthrough. 😊
Reluctant update, you’ll see why: I tore mine apart, I cleaned sprayed and put it all back together, no start but it was making a chopping sound so I knew I had something wrong, I quit to go take a shower and as soon as the water hit my face I knew what I did. There’s a rubber seal on both ends of that crank, when I put it back together I had left that seal on the pull start side outside of the head, thus no crank case pressure, so I tore it apart again, put it back together and no start with the same sound, tore it apart again and I had left the other seal outside the head on the crank, 3 times is a charm they say. It fired right up when I corrected my mistakes, THEN it quit and wouldn’t start, found that my new fuel line was curled up outta the gas. I QUIT, at least till tomorrow. 😅😅😅😅😅
Loved the video. Was realistic for the average person who wants to diy repair. I appreciated all the mistakes you made as that’s probably how it would go for most of us. Running into issues and working the troubleshooting.
Arrow on piston points to exhaust. It's easier if you put one clip in piston before installing wrist pin/onto connecting rod. Oil all the parts so you don't have a dry start a touch of gasket adhesive on cylinder seals helps tremendously Indian Head woks great
I do know that from building bike engines but this one didn't have one printed on piston so I just matched up the alignment pin for the ring to old one worked out good been useing it runs great
Yes it did it can be seen in your vid thats why I said you have put it with the arrow pointing to the inlet port. It is to to do with the balance of the piston to the Crankshaft. The crank as a counter balance weight has dose the piston they must be in tune with each other or it will Destroy the Crank & Piston & Bearings.
Can you provide a link to the Ebay store where you bought this kit? My weed eater (128LD) has two rubber gaskets at the bottom of the cylinder and I am having a hard time finding one online. All the ones I am seeing have a flat bottom with no gasket between the cylinder and the crankcase (maybe not necessary?). Thanks!
What was the weed eater doing that you noticed something was wrong.. i cranked mine up 1 day and it sounds different..ive had it 5years..and i no what it sounds like when normal... But now it sounds like as if air is comming out ..or a bit of a grinding sound .
@RayFixesAll I got trouble with the new carburetor. I think the engine runs out of gas after a few cycles of running. Can You recommend what should I do? How can I set and adjust the carburetor to stay running? TY!
@tommyluck19 start with high and low screw turned from the seated position one and a half turns out after machine warms up then bring the low side screw in or out until you get a nice running engine then press down on the throttle all the way and adjust your high screw until the engine runs nice hope this helps
@RayFixesAll new spark, new carb, new fuel lines, and new piston. You had a problem at the beginning, and then you adjusted the carb. Can you let me know how many turns you did?
Start with the high and low one and a half turns out from seated that should get it running for you it'll be rough you have to adjust it from there you have to listen to the RPMs and adjust
I would have somebody put their finger that the brave it doesn't hurt that bad over the spark plug and see if it's Sparks it'll shock them if it does then you have spark if it doesn't then you have something wrong with the spark which indicates placement is wrong spacing on the magneto or the magneto is bad
So you just use your finger to hold piston ring exactly in place? No special tool or holder? FYI the bottom of head had grooves for the rubber head gaskets
If I wasn't recording and had all tools in front of me can do in about half HR but took me a little over an hr to get tools I forgot and keep recording trying to get good angles
@@RayFixesAll ok thanks for getting back with me. I have the same husqvarna 128ld 15 years now I run it wide open at least 2 hours a week . I did minor things through the years fuel lines carburetor rebuild any way they go for 250.00 in Louisiana now at Lowes so I'd be willing to change the head and piston whenever the time comes. It's been a beast of a trimmer. Thanks again.
My new piston ring is quite a bit stiffer than the original and it's super tough to seat in the cylinder without a ring compressor. Anyone have any tips?
Figured it out. I put the ring in upside down. Had a 50/50 chance of getting it right but got unlucky. Noticed on the old ring that where the ring comes together, the end of each ring is sloped. You want that slope to be sloping upwards ( \ / ) towards the top of the piston like a "V" and it will pop in nicely otherwise the piston will not go in.
Still using still working great
Heck yea my top half should be in next week so I'll be giving it the Ole boyscout effort lol

Wd40 should lube it enough
Great video dude! I’m taking apart the engine as my first project. This video has helped a lot
Awesome video .im fixing to be putting a new top half on my 130L trimmer, and this helps me out alot
Thanks ,it's the same for the MCculloch B28 PS which I have. Does it still run ok?🙂 🇫🇷
Great video! Thank you for posting this since I have been considering doing the same top end rebuild on my Husky 128 CD weed trimmer myself.
Thanks hope it helps
The arrow on a piston should always face towards the exhaust side of the cylinder. Is your aftermarket kit holding up ?
Yea still using it once a week on my yard
Use brake cleaner instead. It actually works 100x better the WD-40.
The Piston has an arrow on the top of it and that should point to the exhaust port you put it pointing at the inlet port.
I do know that from building bike engines but this one didn't have one printed on piston so I just matched up the alignment pin for the ring to old one worked out good been useing it runs great

Did the bird survive the tune-up procedure?

Great video and excellent details all around.

@RayFixesAll Thank You, Ray! I'll do it tomorrow
Did exactly what you done, changed the piston and a new aftermarket carb. It won't start, what could it be?
If all gaskets are good then adjust carb or get a new one probably gas issues or make sure you have spark could be bad magneto
@RayFixesAll new spark, new carb, new fuel lines, and new piston. You had a problem at the beginning, and then you adjusted the carb. Can you let me know how many turns you did?

Yea I didn't use a ring tool
ok thanks
Thanks again bud it did go on without a tool I was just more careful this time. My first time I pushed to hard and broke the ring
Okay cool glad you got it working
I had problems trying to put my piston in also. Discovered I put the ring on upside down. Makes all the difference in the world.
I have the same wacker 128ld which daughters boyfriend killed by using reg/non mixed gas. It was about 3 months old so I have done same thing
Well it's not a hard job and worth it I'm still using it till this day I got it for free it was already blown
Thanks for doing the video. Question: what's the single screw (near the fuel/air mixture screws) for?
Rpm
Idle speed
Great point!

Will this work for a 322L?
All Husqvarna is pretty much go together the same way but you have to make sure you get the right jug and piston for your model

eBay

@@barnettmusicproductions5501 depends if rings are just worn or walls are scratched up bad but you may be able to hone the walls
You forgot the carb insulator and gasket.
No there on I think I edited it out by mistake thanks for the heads up though
I hope the wd40 does not eat the rubber seals, because it sure softens rubber.
you should learn how to adjust 2cycle carb
I do been running it all summer after carb tune runs great but I like to run a bit rich now to make sure it's well lubed
In video was have trouble setting the low speed screw and rpm was trying to get it so the head didn't spin at idle
