Growing up, my grandfather was big into Star Trek. Namely the classics from the 60's to the early 2000's seemed to hold a special place in his heart and being able to see these films and experience a whole other world with him because of his unwavering nerd side honestly makes me proud. He was never afraid to share his interests, and something as simple as this beautiful song from a series of films we enjoyed together keeps a smile on my face. Unfortunately, he has since passed on as of 2022. Fly high grandpa, the skies are surely blue up there.
I found this today for the first time (I’m a pretty new fan but i’m head over heels for Data) and it made me really happy. He’s such a sweetheart and his singing voice is lovely!

Here after the Picard finale, and have to say it was the most disturbing Star Trek episode of all. Something veryh creepy about extinguishing Data's essence while this song played in the background. Maybe it's just a thing with me, but I can't get excited celebrating death!
Yeah I really didn't like the picard ending. It gave data an even worse death than freaking Nemesis. In nemesis he's sacrificing himself for the others and in so finding the true meaning of life. In Picard he just wants to die for no reason.
@@CavalloDiSpade It’s an interesting route they took. Why do people die? For no reason? It’s part of the human experience though. For a being that strived to become as human as possible it made sense that Data would eventually die. I also wonder if there were behind the scene reasons like wanting to tie up loose ends or if it was something for the fans.

@@aboomination897 they both have Pinocchio syndrome. Data had to die because he found emotions. B-4 would have been Data minus emotion. Spock never lost his Pinocchio syndrome so he got to live.
For a non-singer, Brent did a bang up job on this not particularly easy number. Backed by a terrific orchestra too, wonder if they might even let me sound deserving of being allowed to finish? No, no chance of that. With TNG, The producers got themselves an all time classic that easily surpassed TOSeries, Voyager, DS9, etc etc. With a decent cast, and without too many poorly written episodes. The weakest female cast member was without doubt the bonny Marina Sirtis, with her Mediterranean looks and overdone hairpieces. And the male similar? Michael Dorn, whose delivery swung between adequate and at best "wooden". But Mr Spiner as Data was never less than admirable in his multiparteit renderings of Data/Lore/Various Soongs, from apprentice lover to Tasha, to ancient/dying Prof Soong. Spiner made his Android part as Data as irreplaceable as had been Spock in TOS, and loved no less by fans. A man of varied talents, is he. A joker, an innocent. A 1000% hero, and a rather ill-conceived cat owner. "Spot" was Data's weakest point in these shows, episodes with that cat among the series' weakest. This wedding is yet another example of how his presence, even while "only" singing in the background, could steal a scene, and completely. Spiner was always more than the sum of his parts, and in no small degree was disproportionately responsible for the affection that TNGeneration engendered from the public as well as core fandom. Of which latter I number myself, absolutely.
He is a singer, that’s an aspect of Data’s character BECAUSE Brent Spiner is actually a singer. He’s been in many Broadway and Off-Broadway productions in his career, and he has a whole album called Ol’ Yellow Eyes Is Back in reference to his role as Data. That album came out long before Nemesis or any other singing he’s done on screen in character as Data.
The joy in his voice really comes across.
I'm just glad he's still alive in the online games and in the comics
He was re-activated in the latest season of Picard.

Both Spock and Data died in the films. Spock returned in the next film, Data did not! Why?
There was supposed to be a fifth tng movie where he does, in B4's body, but they cancelled it
