    I came to your channel about a year ago. I'm a 50 year old mom, and my oldest - now 25 - has joined jehovahs witnesses. I am an atheist and have been throughout my adulthood. I found your channel while trying to find out more about the cult my child was joining. Nothing I've said to him has dissuaded him. Now he has married another jehovahs witness and moved to Idaho. I hear from him, but not as often as I'd like. They wont be having children (thankfully), and have taken steps to ensure that (vasectomy). I hope that at some point they both realize that it isn't truly the life they want. Especially since my daughter-in-law's own sister was disfellowshipped a few years ago.

      luckily, all but one uncle had no problems with me leaving. I wish they weren’t still JW’s, but they have never preached to me or my partner. Never once mention the religion actually. I have never seen my parents witnessing in public.
      Maybe they are in the religion as they grew up JW’s and now it’s more of a social thing rather than a religious thing. Like all religions, some people are hardcore, and my family must be the lazy ones haha.

      @mamahellfire - Painful as it is to you, you cannot determine for your son what life he truly wants. You are his mother, yes, but he's an adult and thus free to make his own decisions no matter how much that may violate your maternal instincts or hurt your feelings. I, too, am an atheist and it's my good fortune that no one in my immediate family has fallen prey to religious cults or beliefs. It is unfortunate that this mental virus (not specifically that of this particular sect) has infected some members of my nephew's in-laws and will likely infect one or more of their children. I have no control over that.
      It is my hope that when your son is disfellowshipped (not a foregone conclusion but possible, nonetheless) I hope you'll be able to overcome the isolation and hurt caused by his participation in the JWs and be a welcome resource for him when he's trying to regain his footing in life. Good luck to you.

    The Sandy school shooting just hit the live news and who comes knocking on my door at that moment? The "ladies" from the local JW crew.
    They had no idea. I was upset, shaking, crying. I made them come in and see what I was upset about. I asked how "their" God would let this happen?
    They started flipping through their books, stuttering, and had nothing.
    After that day our weekly visits stopped. Huh.

      It’s a sad situation when evil people act out. It can make many people wonder why God allows this. It comes from humans having free will. If God steps in when people want to do evil then no one can have free will.

      What about the free will of the victims? No matter the crime, the perpetrator prevents the victim from doing what they want to do. For example, a r*pist will prevent their victims from fleeing.
      The moment there is a perpetrator and a victim, one of the two person's will is not going to realize; so why doesn't God make it so the victim's will is the will that is realized rather than the perpetrator's will?

    16:33 that isn't a muzzle Owen. It's a training guide called a gentle leader. There's different kinds but it's a tool used to help teach dogs not to pull when walking on a leash. It does not hurt the dog (assuming you have it on correctly) and it doesn't cause the dog physical discomfort beyond the annoyance of something being on their face. I have used them before but found that a harness with the leash attached to the chest combined with treats works better.

    When my friend's JW parents passed away, I helped her clean and empty out their old home. There were bookshelves upon bookshelves with hundreds of books in them. Not one novel, not one manual, only JW books and even magazines professionally bound in bigger volumes, which probably cost them hundreds of pounds at the time. In their pile of records, not a pop or jazz one, only JW hymns and sermons, speeches, lessons. It was so depressing, what a sad existence. My friend definitely enjoyed throwing all of that in the recycling bins, though, so that was fun

    This is similar to how I came in as a 20-year-old in 1992 to my 1994 baptism at 22 but my indoctrination books were the red “You Can Live Forever in Paradise on Earth” and the blue book “United in Worship of the only true God”. It’s been drastically “simplified” by their methods nowadays for attention spans and dumbing downs in their desperation to find new cult/high control members they call “righthearted” or “honest hearted”. But it’s a brainlock and those in vulnerable, susceptible situations or mindsets like I was as a 20-year old young man lost for direction, an only child growing up in Chicago with my Mom having battled lymphoma cancer for 12 years in and out of radiation and chemotherapy and remission as I had dabbled in college courses while working and trying to figure out my life for guidance and direction and I feel into Watchtower’s trap. Sad😢

      This is how jws manage to trap adults into their cult even in modern times-they prey upon the ones rendered emotionally vulnerable because of the effects of their life circumstances!
      A drowning person will clutch at a straw, or words to that effect.
      When emotionally in distress, and therefore vulnerable and having one’s judgment impaired, is the time when an otherwise rational person will be open to being sucked in…
      It just occurred to me that one analogous way to regard such a situation (an adult knowingly joining a cult) is that of a fully grown adult being gradually convinced that there IS a Santa, rather than a child finally understanding that there is NOT 😂. Ironic!

    I remember one funny moment with JW publications, years ago. Basically me and my friends stumbled upon a collection of several volumes of Awake! We started reading it and found very amusing for how simplistic and naive it was. The style, the comparisons, the arguments were not exactly convincing to put it mildly.
    And it made us realize: average person wouldn't really buy into it, but a person in distress, depression, someone who's fallen on hard time may find it helpful as a way to cope and that's why their behavior is a predatory one. It was disgusting once we realized that.
    And then, of course, you have all the people born into the cult who have no choice, who are not asked but expected to join.

I'm severely dyslexic, and yeah, I have limitations. I'd love to read your book, but I'm not sure I'll have access. I am not something to use to say see, this does or doesn't exist. I am not a thing, I am a person. The fact that someone would use us as a tool to explain their faith or lack of faith in anything says more about their perception of the disabled than anything. Why do disabled people exist? Because life is a product of statistical averages, and theirs are always outliers. Live with it.

    This got long so to summarize: head-collar (halter dog collar) are humane and great alternatives to other training collars. Also, Muzzles are WONDERFUL tools, regardless the stigma dogs can breath, eat and drink water while wearing them.
    I couldn't get a good look at the dog (because of my cellphone) but if it's a head collar (also known as a halter collar) it's not abusive in the slightest. The collar would have a part that goes around the head and another that goes around the snout. When adjusted properly will secure the dog. It reduces tension and pulling (because unlike a traditional collar the pressure would be on the back of the head not the front of the neck). Usually gives you more control over the dog. The dog is still able to eat, drink, bark, have a full pant and even bite but it shouldn't be left on for extended periods of time because it could get stuck on something or get uncomfortable when not walking on a leash.
    It's a great tool to train dogs to walk on a leash. I've owned and trained plenty of dogs, I usually prefer a harness with a ring on the front and another one on the back. for the versatility of not pulling on the dog's neck and adapting to dogs that respond better to have that "gentle lead" approach or on the back for the dog that no matter how much you train still finds a way to get the leash tangled. When neither of those work I resort to the head collar. Works better than a prongs collar or a choke collar and is more humane than either of those and even than a regular flat collar (if the dog pulls)
    No matter what you got told at the store by a "dog trainer" or what you saw Cesar Millan do or whatever NO TWO DOGS ARE A LIKE. It's not about breeds (but they do tend to share lots of behavior with their breed). If all dogs could be trained the same all dogs could be service animals or police dogs and similar. When choosing what dogs to train for tasks like those the trainer chooses a dog depending on how they respond to certain stuff and their personality (and even after being selected by a professional trainer because of some desirable behavior the dog is already showing, there's no guarantee the dog will respond as expected to training)
    I always advise to train them with a properly fitted harness (and maybe try a few different styles) but being able to transport and exercise your dog is important for their safety and that's why leash training is crucial just to keep them safe (that's true for all dogs but especially if it's not a lap dog).
    The head-collar is a great alternative for dogs that don't do well in harnesses. Most dogs don't mind them and respond well to them (there is a learning curve but that's true even for chew toys and playing fetch).
    Also, Muzzles are not abusive/harmful for dogs. They are great tools to keep everyone safe. There are different kind of Muzzles, dogs shouldn't be made to Wear them for extended periods of times (not because of any danger but because it gets uncomfortable after a while, just like a bra, or jeans or even shoes do to us; I bet you don't find it comfortable to go to bed with all your jewelry, jeans, button up shirt and shoes still on, neither does your dog). There are less humane versions of muzzles but lots of muzzles available allow the dog to drink water (and even eat a snack) while wearing it, will allow them to bark and you should always choose one that allows for a pant (a full pant if they'll be wearing it while exercising, if it's warm, if it's more than just a couple of minutes, or if they may get anxious). I believe all dogs should be used to wearing a muzzle because you don't know when they'll need one. Your puppy may be the friendliest, gentler dog on the planet, if he gets hurt or need to wear a muzzle for any reason you wouldn't like to traumatize your already suffering dog with a new device they don't understand and may have a negative association of after this unexpected situation. No matter the case if you see a dog with a muzzle thats the safest dog nearby, not the lapdog, not the playful puppy, you can't be safer around a dog than when they are properly wearing a muzzle.

    • @KPW2137
      @KPW2137 11 месяцев назад

      Just one note there: I've seen people using vet muzzles which shouldn't be used outside of vet's cabinet.
      Proper muzzle allows dogs to breath, chill and drink water and are all OK to use. Vet muzzles ( I'm not sure that's the correct, exact term ) are designed to keep dog's mouth shut which is an issue.

    If they’re giving her answer after answer, tell me one example of an answer and the question it applied to. But they won’t give you that because vagueness is a utility for them. But, what works against that utility is that it leaves the suggestion up to the individual’s imagination.

    Isn't the answer in Christianity that we deserve the suffering and because we deserve it, it doesn't make God bad? That's the mormon answer anyway. It's sick stuff, they don't like to say it out loud.

      Like most monotheistic religions I guess Christianity at large has this big isse of the why evil question. If as they say god is all good and omnipotent then why evil?

    • @suetrublu
      @suetrublu 11 месяцев назад

      That's not my answer. It makes me sad to hear that is what Mormons think.
      My answer is: I don't know the mind of God or why a lot of bad things happen. Obviously, a lot of our problems we DO bring on ourselves, but no I don't believe rape or other abuse victims "deserve it". That is actually New Age thinking (also Hindu). But I don't have to know all the answers.
      And the idea that the only answers could possibly be that God is either impotent or evil (as Owen claims) is ridiculous imho. For instance hurricanes and volcanos do lots of good things for the planet long term, despite how we humans may perceive them in the short term. Old plants and animals die. And suffering often causes us to learn a great deal that makes us better people. Hopefully this is a better answer.

    • @amberinthemist7912
      @amberinthemist7912 11 месяцев назад

      @eileenpierce7623 That is absolutely what mormons think. Let me guess you are either young or never experienced rape or dv. The mormon answer to rape is what did you do to cause it? The mormon answer to dv is just submit more and pray. They even published books to hand out to rape victims asking them to figure out why they wanted it. And I've personally seen rape victims publicly punished. In my ward the girl was punished for longer than the boys.
      This was decades of policy that has only been changed in the last couple years because they couldn't suppress it any longer due to the internet and the churches are emptying.

    The reason I was given by Jehovah’s Witnesses, because I did ask the same question was that it’s the remnant of passed down original sin from Adam and Eve sin. That Adam and Eve made perfect, but through their disobedience that stain has corrupted us, and that when Jesus returns, he races that stain from all of us, so that will be resurrected. Perfect, without ailments or disabilities.

    One of the things that pushed me out of Christianity was Christians’ reactions to a chronic illness that runs in my family. The kindest reaction was a lady who said she would pray that the demons would be defeated by God. (Stupid, but at least she meant well) The worst was the person who said that every unwell member of my family was that way because my Mom stopped being a Christian and if we converted her back, God would heal all of us. (What the fuck kind of God do you worship?) Standard was saying that God was using our illness for his glory and/or we were sinning somehow and needed to repent and draw closer to God.
    The other thing that pushed me out of Christianity was trying to read through the entire Bible. There are so many horrible stories: Noah’s flood, Joseph selling his people into slavery in Egypt, Moses and the plagues, etc. I never made it through the campaign to conquer the Promised Land before getting so pissed off I wanted to kill someone. (Preferably God.)

    I think I can shed some light onto the age-old question of "Why? Why does a loving Creator give so many people miserable lives?" Before I give my answer, let me say that I love your channel and your no-bullshit approach to JW's and religion in general, even though I'm NOT an atheist; raised a Roman Catholic, I got older and began to question most of their dogma and as a result, I just slowly pulled back and away. However, I AM a very SPIRITUAL man, so I absolutely do believe in God, the "One Source," Yaweh or just "Source," along with Jesus Christ, who was only here to try to teach us that we ALL have God within ourselves, believe it or not; that we as human beings are so VERY POWERFUL, but we've had that shut off by organized religion and world governments. I also believe in an afterlife, absolutely...I had a near-death experience years ago, and it changed me for the better. I was shown that ALL religions have it all WRONG; there IS NO angry, spiteful, vengeful God (or Creator) who's just itching to send us all to Hell for eternity and YET....He loves us! Lol. I believe He does love us, everything is based in love, and we all see, feel, and live that love once we die, BUT...I digress.
    We CHOOSE the kind of lives that we live here on Earth before we incarnate here. Earth is a school, and we've all signed up for this, but....we also have free will, which the God source will never interfere with, so we often get off the chosen path, and then the universe gives us a nudge and we're back on track....or let's say that we get murdered by someone else (there's that free will) and it was NOT a part of our life plan; well....our soul simply reincarnates to finish what we need to do. The ones who do terrible things to us, like killing us, well...that may or may not be on THEIR life path; if it was planned, then their victim may have agreed with that soul to be the victim, so the perpetrator could learn from it, likely because in THEIR previous life here, THEY were the one who was killed. Maybe the one they killed had filled THEM in a past life, but it was to learn a karmic lesson from it.
    That's what I believe, anyway, and it took me decades to finally arrive at this explanation. I know many would argue everything I wrote here, but....after my NDE years ago, this was the understanding that I returned with; I remember it like it was yesterday, it has remained so very vivid, even after all these years; there's GOT to be something more once we dip out from this planet; the NDE confirmed that belief. You know what the last thing I was told before slamming back down into my body? "Tell the others, there IS no death." For what it's worth.
