Honda CR-V oil life - How does your car know the oil quality?

Does Honda CR-V measure the quality of your oil using some hidden lab inside the engine? Actually, no. Your Honda just translates miles into percentage. So, it counts how many miles you’ve driven after you changed the engine oil last time. And then tells you the percentage of oil life.
By the way, resetting it is pretty easy. Press the knob on your instrument cluster shortly several times till you see the oil life screen. Now, press the knob and hold it for about 10 seconds. After that, the oil life percentage starts blinking. Now, press and hold the knob once more for about 5 seconds till the oil life meter resets itself to 100%.
