Man baseball was 1000 times better back then. Better players, way better personalities with way more swag, and most of all better rules.

I was there on Waveland Ave when he hit both. Hung out with my pal at Murphy’s Bleachers watching on WGN. When he was due up, everyone emptied out onto Waveland for a chance to catch history.
What a time to be in Chicago.

This is why it was so irritating when the cubs announcers were bitching about Acuna's 70th steal celebration. Their cubs did the exact same thing with This. The morons forever ruined the clip of him holding the base talking over a historic movement. They are hypocrites.

You're really trying to compare stealing 70 bases to hitting 62 homeruns?? You must be young if you don't realize how big of a moment this was, not just for Cubs fans, but for baseball. Baseball lost a lot of fans during the '94 strike. Sammy and Mac brought everyone back and more. I'm not trying to discredit Acuña for making 40/70. It's beyond impressive, but the homerun chase in the summer of '98 was iconic.

I remember that summer. Just before Allstars break Cubs sweep a 3 4 game series. Then go into weekend series against Cards 2 back. Friday they were flat after emotional games. Lost then Saturday cards go up 2-0. Cubs have men on 1st and 2nd. 1 out Sosa has 2-0 count hits into double play. Down 4 in 4th? Same thing vases loaded 1 out. Hits into DP. Down 7 8-0 in 6th? He hits solo shot and gets standing ovation. Down 11-1 in 8th? Yes hits solo shot and takes curtain call. This guy got HOF Billy Williams fired as Cubs hitting coach. Watch him play center that year. Clueless. Only reason he hit them was riggleman batting him 3rd and putting grace in cleanup spot. They would pitch around grace with men on to get to that overrated wuss.
