This was a great informational video. I've been sewing for years and I think it would be great to expose younger people to the joy of sewing. I feel this information could spark some creativity .
Glad you enjoyed it!!! It actually filmed this video for my students so they could understand fabric shopping and it’s so fun getting to teach the younger generation how to sew!
OMG to have a fabric selection like this... it's the absolute dream! most fabric stores here in the Netherlands are pretty small so I end up ordering from webshops where they often times don't even have this many choices! I'm definitely jealous hahaha
In Amersfoort and other city’s there wil be markets with fabric.. it’s awesome and a lot of the time they have lower prices and sales:) and a lot of choices :) hope there will be one soon, with covid going on they where cancelled. I agree that ordering online is the best option.. do you know vandriessenstoffen. Nl ? They have a lot! And for affordable prices :)
I'm sooooo jealous! Where I'm from we only have small family owned fabric stores that don't really have much variety. I would love to have a joann here - but stores of that size don't make sense here because sewing isn't very popular 😭
I have never been to a fabric shop which tells you the exact fibre content and care instructions. You have to rely on the previous person putting the fabric they picked up back in the cotton section for example.
Oh wow! That’s kind of crazy. I know bigger fabric stories don’t have all the details on the bolts, so that is the nice thing about Joann’s and Hobby Lobby (especially for beginners)
Great video! I’m looking to make a great kilt for hiking/bushcraft, and there is a surprising amount of unintuitive things in the fabric industry. As someone who has never done anything sewing related, this is one of the few videos that is actually helpful.
Extremely helpful video! I wish I found this when I started sewing, but I guess now that I’ve done some and shopped plenty, this is making sense to me now. Thanks!
I love Craft stores and crafting. Ever sit and look around the craft store and just enjoy all the beautiful colors. 🐣Especially with all the spring stuff starting to appear. ☘️So inspiring. So many things to be made, so many possibilities. I just started making walkthrough shopping videos and I’m considering making more. I just feel a little awkward filming in the store. Do you have any tips for filming in the store? I hope we can support and learn from each other! 🌷🐝🌺
I love Joann’s and yes Walmart is hit or miss but my local Walmart has precut fabric for really cheap. Also surprised you didn’t mention Michael’s, they have a cute fabric section as well.
It's usually best to go to a particular area such as fabric districts or markets. Then you'll find lots of shops in a v small area and prices are usually v competitive.
@@user-cg9sm5zt6t Goldhawk Rd in London is the top place for me - a real range of shops (and prices!). I can't imagine needing anything that you can't find here. I think there are also places in Brighton and Edinburgh though I don't know the areas' names.
Are you allowed to pick your own patterns out of the drawer? I've never been in a fabric shop (in the UK) where you can mess about in the drawers! My local fabric shop lets me NOW but only because they recognise me, and they are sometimes v busy. If they're quiet, they prefer to get the patterns for me.
Is linen pretty easy to work with? I want to use a linen to make a curtain for a window in my house with odd dimensions. Can't find a curtain to fit it. I'm brand new to sewing, but found some linen fabric I like for my curtain. Not sure if it's beginner friendly?
This has to do with sewing, so i thought to ask. I dont have dress form or mannequins, but i know my parents wont buy me one :( how will I practice draping?
There’s tons of videos out there that show you how to drape on yourself…there’s also videos about making your own dress form. I sewed for years though without a dress form, just fit things to myself and it worked
Depends what kind of curtain you want! If your looking for something airy that lets light through a polyester chiffon would be good, otherwise a lightweight cotton would allow you a solid color or print while blocking a bit of light
So interesting no such store in my country ,I could do wonders if we had one in my country ,there is small stores sells only common fabriqs like shifon ,satin nowadays I see englishfabriq ,I wish to visit your country. Can I order on line frome your store?
We have hobbycraft and dunelm, very expensive, HC dorsnt have all the info needed as its usually worn off,not clear to read. There is one good shop in Edinburgh up the bridges. Probably the best for price and choice but still not like this.
There's definitely places where it's more expensive and I would say average of $18 is pretty common, but when you shop big name places like Joanns they produce in bulk so the prices definitely reflect that.
I want stores like this here where I live 😭😭
That’s kind of crazy that you don’t have fabric stores like this! They are very tempting though so it might be to your benefit :)

I never even stopped to consider how fabric stores compare around the world! Wish they had them everywhere for sewers💕

I thought the Netherlands is the land of fabrics.
I thought the Netherlands is the land of fabrics.
I am so happy because I live in the DFW area and I have a JOANN store close by, so when my sewing machine comes, this will be very helpful.
Yay!! Apparently Dallas also has an amazing fabric district…I haven’t visited yet, but I know people who have
@@MaddieLynn It's great here. I hope you visit sometime soon. I'm just so excited to get my sewing machine
I'm sooooo jealous!

I keep hearing how fabric stores are so different around the world and I find it so interesting...Joanne’s are definitely nice!

This is lovely, thank you so much for you knowledge!!
You are so welcome!
oh my word! what an amazing fabric shop! I can't think of anywhere in the UK like this.
Wish y’all had places like this in the UK...they are so fun (but dangerous when you have no self control...lol)

If you are ever up in Canada, come visit us for a tour! Maybe even a quick lesson on the metric system, that you can pass along😉
That would be so fun!
Such a good video idea! Great job on it! ✂️ 🧵🌸
Wow american stores are just so amazing
I feel like I need to do some fabric shopping around the world to have a mew experience 🤗

Yes you are! You usually write the pattern numbers down from the catalogue and then grab them from the drawer :)
in Minnesota we have a huge discount fabric warehouse and all fabric is 50% off, they have thread, all fabric types, trim, appliqués, leather, etc
Just seeing this message and I recently moved to the minnesota area…would love to know where this discount warehouse is!
Thank you! Very informative loads of choices!
Omg I live 4 miles aways from Joann fabrics and I'm about to go right now , I don't know how 8 never knew about this
This was so helpful! Thank you 😊
So glad to hear it! Thanks for watching💕

Looking for upholstery, cream colored, cotton heavy duty fabric…. Looking for a specific design to match fabric already on Sofa..
It seams to be HEAVEN!!!
Love the play on words😂 Fabric stories are like candy stores to me💕
As a complete beginner THANK YOU!!
You're so welcome!
Super helpful! Thank you!!
Can you get a fat quarter cut out of a bolt, or will they only cut straight across by the yard?
You can totally get smaller sizes cut
We don't have this types of fabric shop in our country 🥺
So helpful thank you!! :)
Awe, i don't have fabric stores near me, i have to buy online :(( fabric stores are my candy stores.
Nooo…that’s so sad!!
Great video thanks for sharing.

You can order fabric on amazon and most likely etsy also.
Thank you so much I needed this!
How does quilter's cotton act differently than apparel cotton? Is it the thread count or stiffness?
Pretty’s sure it’s just for marketing and differs in name only, but some quilters cotton is a more study weave
You can definitely use both interchangeably. Some brands will be stiffer than others, so won’t drape as nicely if you’re making something flowy.
New subscriber 👍
Türkiye den yazıyorum kumaşlara aşık oldum aşırı iyi keşke orda olsaydım 🥰🥰🥰
Can i buy this fabric?? I really neend in a huge amount
Yes I can provide you.
What is the name of the store you are talking about?
Joann fabrics

Always interesting to hear what fabric shops are like in other places :)
And now I want to buy fabric 😂
That’s both a good thing and a bad thing😂
there wasn’t a solid color section of cotton fabric in the joann’s that i went in :/
😍
My Joann looks nothing like this.
That’s so sad!
My god, you Americans get fabric for SO CHEAP!!! Here in Canada, any of those prints would be a minimum $18/yard.
