- NOTE: I am aware of all the audio problems in this video. It was super duper hot and the air conditioner was blasting. I think that the noise tool did something with the tops of the signal. I will try to better implement it next time. Thank you.

Just bought one yesterday! I’ll be mounting it on my 1937 Leica IIIa. I can’t wait. Great video!
Hope you enjoy it.
The focus on mine is very tight and smooth, the aperture can apparently be tightened by tightening the screws that hold the plate spring inside the lens.
i'd love to get a canon p and one of these as my first rangefinder. awesome video, loved your emotion towards the lens and photography in general
Thanks for watching!
I have the Canon 35 f2 and 35 f2.8 and find myself using the latter more due to its ergonomic build. The 2.8 just feels more precise whereas the 2.0 is just wobbly. But image wise the 2.0 is superb for landscapes when you use apertures smaller than 5.6.
Just ordered one for my m9p!
Nice job on this one! Thank you
I hope it was helpful. Enjoy.
Nice review mate!! Btw do you mind telling me what lens hood is attached to ltm lens?
I can’t remember if that is an original hood or not. I think it is.
I have 35mmf2.8 canon and summaron 35mmf2.8 but i love sumicron 35mm f2 (7) elment or canon ltm 35mm f2 or 1.8!
So do you have two adapters l39(ltm) shim to Fuji x mount?
Yes
Great review and very based nod to germanys struggle against the small hat tribe.
It’s a great lens. I should have mentioned that finding a small hat for it is hard.
Nice review! Which helicoid adapter do you use?
The text of this review is old, and so is the adapter I used for it: Hawks Factory helicoid. Better ones now exist.
@@FauxtakuLounge Thanks! What would you recommend these days? After googling quite a bit, I can only find very crappy looking plastic ones.
new here - and i'm in to vintage lenses, so thanks for the review (i don't do leica's or rangefinders, but oh well). where the hell is your accent from? it bothers me that i can't place it.
I’m using the 35mm f2 on my Leica m8...... I’m still sitting on the fence on this lens. The build quality and finish is sloppy and it flares so much.. colors are quite washed out, really low contract, but the images do look great
Good choice! The colours really are good with this lens but yeah, the build isn't the best.
try light lens lab 35 f2 8elements
I really dislike lens tabs, but thank you for the info.
I suspect your canon lens requires seen hard times and requires service.
I have canon’s 2.8/35 and 1.4/50 ltm’s - both tight, smooth and precise
The 50/1,4 (which I own) and the 35mm/2,8 are very different lenses with different builds than the 35/2, just as the 35/2 Leica from the 60s and 80s are different lenses. This lens isn't as well built as the Serenar sort of lens that the 35/2,8 is.
@@FauxtakuLounge have you reviewed the serenar 35f2.8? The original early 50’s chromed brass version. How does it compare with the Elmar Elmarit and summicron
Build quality sounds just like my 35 f2...... feels completely different to the 50mm 1.8 or 1.2
why is there a photo of the cuties poster @ 2:31 ?
I think the saying goes: 'which way, white man?'
mine arrived today, using it on my P
Video @ 7:28 "is loose and imprecise" - HUH ? - I own the Leitz 8 element Summicron AND this model Canon 35mm lens. You really should GET YOUR LENS SERVICED ! ( I'm a Leica repair technician) - When i serviced my unit and once the old dried out lubricants get removed (fresh lube installed) and even with the slightest fog/haze is sanitized, this little gem has astounding performance (even by today's standards) AND becomes physically smooth as silk. Now internally, especially when compared to vaunted but heavily plastic "King of Bokeh" Leica 35 Summicron, this model has admirable choice of materials, fit & finish. - My Canon lens is permanently married to the wonderful Canon P...
I’ve tried more than one of these: each plays a bit when focuses and has a slightly loose aperture ring. The build reminds me of late 60s Leica summicron lenses, which is a big step back.
@@FauxtakuLounge "The build reminds me of late 60s Leica summicron lenses"--how can it be both loose and imprecise, and remind you of late 60s Summicron lenses? You mean the Summicron 50mm Dual Range and the Summicron 35/2 8 element? (yes I know, the black 6 element came out in '69, but that's really a 70s lens). I feel you've got your decades confused, a common mistake for those who weren't yet alive when these came out--I personally would have made the same error referring to things of the 30s/40s, for example, in my younger days. The Canon 35/2 lens is of the same 'late sixties' era (made from~'62-'75) and it helps to acknowledge that Canon LTM (as a whole) were a budget alternative to Leica when new, no matter what decade they were made. No one expected them to be equal to Leica
@@TucsonAnalogWorkshop Leica's late-60s Summicron line (50/35) were imprecise and loose. I have a video about the 4th gen 50 Summicron, whose draw style is my favourite, but whose build is poor next to its direct forebear and the lenses that followed. The Canon is similar.
Nice review. But I reckon not all of these lenses are made with bad quality. Yours probably just didn't hold up so well after all these decades. I'd advise you try to make the barrel not loose again by stiffening the little flat screws, if there are any on this particular lens. That might fix the problem If I understood you correctly.
I have tested a bunch of these lenses. Just like Leica's Summicron V3, which is poorly built, this lens, in all its permutations, is poor. Canon's Serena line is better made, but still not quite up to the best.
@@FauxtakuLounge ok, thanks for elaborating
@@FauxtakuLounge I have both the 35 f2 and 35 f2.8 Canon and almost invariably reach for the 2.8 because the controls feel better and doesn't wobble.
Nice review, one nit. Using this lens on an APS sensor camera DOES NOT increase the focal length. It is still a 35mm lens but the sensor samples the field of view similar to a 52.5mm lens on full frame. So it is NOT an f2.8 lens. It remains an f2 lens.
I did say equivalent. And effectively that is what is returned If you use full frame where this lens truly belongs.
