Please extend all of the love from everybody here to Mrs. Heaton with thanks for being so understanding when you're out trying to capture brief moments in time and can't stop to talk, all for our benefit of your videos.
I was sitting here thinking "this new mic and positioning of the camera looks fantastic!". A minute later you ask if we like it. Yes we do! Looks real good.
Watching a man take the same photo 12 times..... Well, we watch because it's not as boring as you seem to think. I imagine that most of your viewers are photographers and most will see the effort you put in and the enjoyment you get from it, probably like most of us do in varying degrees. There's always some little nugget hidden in the content and it's always worth watching. Thank you.
I'm not really a photographer, but I am outdoorsy and Thomas does a great job of scratching that outdoorsy itch. It's just the really down to earth atmosphere and attitude. The photography for me just goes to emphasise the appreciation of the outdoors and the landscape.
@@NeoLithiumCat I took ten shots of the same little bush this morning. It was a little tough and the shot that I was happy with I am not longer enthralled with. I may go back out tomorrow. It's fall after all.
I too will happily watch 12 shots of the same scene. I've learnt so much from his videos and watching his thought process. The other week I went out shooting in some fog and I swear I could hear Thomas's commentary in my head. Took my best shot if the year.
Yeah, using a digital camera we can take hundreds of shots of the same scene, all of them rubbish. With film you have to engage the thought process. Planning a shot is rare for me too, like when I've seen a view and thought 'if the sun was there and ...' and so the cliffs across the valley were lit perfectly in the early morning. And then the developer lost the roll of film.
It's so awesome your wife understands what you mean by light. My friend and I had a huge fight when touring a city because I was explaining light and losing shots at the speed we were going of walking. He didn't understand just because the sun is up, doesn't mean I will have the right light for hours.
I visited Northumberland in October of 2018 and fell in love with the scenery and whatever magic makes the English sky so gorgeous there. I'm thankful that I can get a little taste of Northumberland again while I wait for it to be safer to travel again. Thanks!
I love that you show us your disappointment and frustration sometimes, and then gather yourself and move on - it doesn't come across as negative! Now when I have these moments, I tend to think of you and power through!
Maybe I'm the odd one out but I prefer the July image. Yes the greens to the left of the boulder were slightly distracting but the other colours drew me in more. But I think we can all agree your wife deserves a medal.
A reminder of why I shoot digital 😂😂 I have no patience for shooting blind. New technology is made for the new generation of photographers. Watching you shoot like this is like going to the museum and see dinosaur bones. Not a bad thing, I still enjoyed the whole content. Kudos to you Thomas.
This reminded me of Nick Carver coming back to the same spot in 5 months or so. That really shows the passion for photography you both have. Great video as usual!
I’m afraid the digital age has diminished the patience I need to shoot film again, although it would be fun and...costly. Good images. Glad you went back. Do another like this.
1:22 the fact that he had to set up his video camera, open the gate, walk through, close the gate, open the gate, walk back through, pack up his gear, walk through again, and then close the gate one last time all for this shot.
What a difference 3months can make! Beautiful final image. I always joked that my partner had a sixth sense for knowing when the most inconvenient time to call was. Every. Single. Time.🤣
The final image you showed, which you thought was closest to what you were trying to achieve, in places could easily pass as a painting..Being a landscape painter that plays around with photography, it's that type of image that always gets my attention. So that's intended as a compliment, if I didn't say it clearly enough. So I've picked up lots of tips & tricks after subscribing to your channel for the last year or so. Especially in the area of composition.. And any episodes that involve your home-made Camper Van, are also a favourite. Thanks Thomas.
Thank you for putting together these videos Tom, fantastic to see someone who actually cares about the craft more than impressing some random people he'll never meet. Greatly appreciate you attention to detail!
Well, there ya go. With dips of worseness. I have to mention that ist is fall all across this latitude. Get out and enjoy the changing of the season. Breathe in, breathe out.
I don't think I've seen many people do great things without caring about the quality of what they produce and the user experience. Just by paying attention, you're already a step ahead. There's a reason people are starting to learn from your video style!
Another great video and good to see that you made it back to this spot. I agree with your comments about opportunistic photography, and I have much the same approach to shooting whatever catches my eye, with the occasional planned image outing where I have a specific image in mind that I want to capture. As an amateur photographer, I've also used up entire rolls of 120 on a single shot as the light is changing and by bracketing. You're certainly right about that being expensive photography, but it's easy to get caught up in the moment.
It looked like you had a film crew along to grab all the angles and get the clear sound. Time traveling through the drone footage captured the idea perfectly. Loved it.
... with dips of worseness ... 😂 ... I don't know how many videos you have but I've seen them all and I haven't seen one bad one yet so even your dips of worseness are far better than most on RUclips. I really love the contrast between seasons and even the contrast between levels of light in the same season! This was a very well planned video! 😉
Enjoyed the Video. Today you inspired me to pull the jeep out of the garage, get out, and shoot the slot canyons south of Winslow, AZ. But it always blue sky's and wind. This would drive you nuts.
Lovely images Tom. I think the second one, right before the sun disappeared was a better image. Really liked how you combined the video from July with this one and great in detail explanation of what you've done and the thought process. Well done 👍
@@ThomasHeatonPhotoI don't think you do, not at all Tom. I really do appreciate any constructive talk. I think you showed in this video how much you care about the audience, from changing the camera position, the mic, a slightly different perspective, the promised return to the location you filmed 3 months ago and the thoughtful process of creating an image and all the why's and how's. This is why I have sticked to your channel from a very early stage of your RUclips journey, because you have always been authentic and honest, adventures and educational. 👍
I agree with you. I prefer the last image. And yes it’s better than the one in July. I appreciate the video showing the comparison and different image due to different conditions. As for Facebook I just deleted it all together so I’ll keep up with your work here and on IG. Cheers.
Cant believe it was 3 months since the first visit to the rock face. Your October images were the better images no doubt. Really enjoyed how you cut the video from July to now and the explanation of why you came back in Autumn, not just for color change in the ferns but the suns position and why it worked so well. Well done. I hope you get the full res back soon
Great video as usual. I’ve never been happy with lab scans, so stopped getting scans and just paid for dev, I always get better results scanning at home
Totally agree with your assessment of the images in this video and loved the final image. Great video, great content keep smiling and il see and hear you this weekend
Love the October composition. It does look great in the fall. I always enjoy revisiting past locations. I just did so myself this past weekend. It wasn’t ideal fall colors but got an early snow storm the night before which made it interesting.
Yea, that 2nd image is spot on. And, yeah... your vids are just as good w 12 of the exact same image, as if they were all different. You've got a knack for this YT stuff man. Thanks for all you do!
I have to say that this is one of my favourite videos ever. 1st thing is that I absolutely liked the idea of doing a before and after kind of photo or summer/fall photo if you will - perhaps even doing one from the same spot of the 4 seasons. 2nd is that I used to shoot film in my younger days and this just brought back a lot of memories of me and my Canon SLR camera. Thanks as always - be safe....
Hi, I'm new to your channel, enjoying it. I actually liked your July shot, cringe. My father in law has a Hasselblad, we are lucky enough to have some of those images on our walls, amazing the depth you get. Looking forward to watching more.
Another great video! Love the second image. I agree the first one has slightly too high contrast. It would be cool to see this location in the winter with some snow, It’s interesting to see and capture an image in a location in all seasons.
Capturing that one scene in our memory as a child we can relate to . Photography the key m8 , liked your van build can understand I'm hands on . You need that insight how light controls all listing lense speed and all that polirizing filters lost then m8
Great video, thanks for the insight. I am hedging on the calendar, living near Chicago shipping is as much as the calendar. Grabbing the e-book for now.
Filter ersion is clearly better but, to be honest, I prefer the summer shot even with the less flare. I'll be interested in seeing the full scan and edit.
Great to see the follow up and wow what a great result. Seeing the two shots side by side was an eye opener and the Autumn shot was definitely the right choice. Facebook….really….I deleted my account years ago so won’t be seeing you there. Invest in your brilliant RUclips channel…instagram is that still working for you?
I was going to ask a question, maybe I know the answer. With film I would always bracket reversal/slide film. But with color negatives, I don't remember much difference and stopped doing it. I just thought negative film had a much wider latitude for exposure error it all looked pretty close. What I probably missed was the processor was compensating the print exposures and the prints looked much the same.! I loved the concept and glad you recorded the scene in July.
I really enjoyed the video Thomas thank you, and nice to see film being used, and hear the click click of the camera 😊 looking forward to the next and will check out your FB. take care x
The pinkish/purple tint on the clouds over the horizon is GORGEOUS! There's so much to look at, I love it! Can't wait to see your own high-res scans =D
What a scenery, absolutely magical! The gods of weather love you Thomas 💕 Thank you for sharing. And those ASMR of photography is noted and appreciated :-)

Great idea of doing 12 of the same. Showing the subtleties of light bring life to the subject.
ooh film, education, lovely quiet second image. thank you, lovely video.
I really enjoyed that photo. Especially cool because of the comparision between seasons which is not something we see often.
Great video Tom! It’s always a joy to watch your videos; the better and the worse. Lol.
Lovely image as well. The light was fantastic. 👏👍

Certainly worth the wait, it was a beautiful image and as always very enjoyable to watch. And yes the microphone was great!
Great Vid Tom of a beautiful landscape. Absolutely love the before/after comparison.
Good video Thomas! That's a good concept, photographing the same scene in different seasons, I hope you do more of these.
As always Thomas…a proper video. Thank you
Another great video. Very well done comparison of light a few months apart. Most interesting.
Well, there ya go. With dips of worseness. I have to mention that ist is fall all across this latitude. Get out and enjoy the changing of the season. Breathe in, breathe out.

Like the mic, love the frantic...sheesh, i felt that
Much better, Sir. Be positive, teach photography and don't ditch the good always in search of the excellent. Thanks, Thomas.
Great video! Love it and the photos.👍👍
