Born in Columbus. Went to high school there (with former VP Mike Pence). It has unusual architecture, Zaharako's is the greek ice cream shop. Some nice B&B's. If you want a quiet little vacation it might be ok. Not too exciting, but a nice place to stay near scenic Nashville and Brown County State Park.
You can't go wrong buying real-estate in this area. It will always do well because of it's location right off I-65 and Brown Co St Park just 20 mins away. It's true that it's more conservative today but that seems to be changing fairly rapidly. Indianapolis has become crowded and the liberal folks don't care much for the outlining suburbia. So we see more libs looking for these smaller towns across the midwest that offer modern convenience with hiking, bicycling, in general outdoor life. IU Medical has been spreading quickly, so you're not stuck with only one hick hospital anymore. Seymour is a bit less expensive and is easily accessible from I-65. Even a bit more conservative than Columbus. Possibly a better small town feel, a little deeper into the rolling hill country. The upside, both Indy and Louisville are not far away. They now have several pickle ball courts, so not just an old railroad stop as they once were. Heads-up, these places are filling up fast because the winters are not near as harsh as they were before global warming and prices plus weather, plus crowding in the coastal states is becoming much less desirable.
On paper, it does look good. Architecturally, cute downtown, etc. I find it a bit too conservative, compared to the eclectic, hodgepodge of Bloomington. However, that may appeal to some. Columbus is visually a place to see.❤
Looking forward to visiting this city in September.
It will be worth it!

👍🏻
I had to move to Huntington from TN because of family. I’m having a tough time.
Sorry to hear that
