The colours are so crisp in this version. There isn't that going overboard with the sepia tone like you in the PCS Commemorative Version. It's been remastered really well. I'm impressed. Thanks for sharing - Søren
Hi, I started that thread over on Aeclectic back in October; I spotted the deck by accident over on Amazon.de and decided to order it on impulse. So glad I did, it knocked my socks off and I felt I had to mention it on Aeclectic as it had gone unnoticed. I feel that this is what the US Games PCS Centennial might have looked like without the artificial age tinting. Anyway, glad to see the Premium Tarot of A.E. Waite getting the attention it deserves.
The pocket edition AGM was the first tarot deck I ever bought, just stumbled across it in a book store one day. Since then I haven't seen a reproduction that I like as much. Beginners luck I guess!
Yes I have the same version, I enjoy using it to do readings. I really like the colouring of this version. I have both the standard and the pocket sizes; also like the box for each one.
So great to see this deck getting a shoutout! I shared on IG last year, after hearing about it on aeclectic, and buying the pocket version (from German Amazon) I love it!!! I might try to find this standard version, though I'm happy with mine :D
Aw - I must have missed your IG posting! - I'm really interested in the pocket edition. Does the LWB also have text by Rachel Pollack? (I'm thinking of getting the English pocket....) And... what's the size like? e.g. in comparison to a US Games tarot-in-a-tin or the regular US Games Pocket RWS...? - Thanks so much for watching and writing, Darlin!
I just sent a photo via IG for you to see the size of the pocket sized deck ;) Yes, it does have the Rachel Pollack text tho in German. I will say that the borders are a bit wider proportionately in the pocket sized deck which I'm not crazy about. Otherwise I really like it :D
thank you so much for your videos. i've been learning a lot from them only bad part is that unfurtunately it is impossible to find quality versions in Brazil. I can only find knock off here :(
I absolutely love this deck! I also saw it on Aeclectic and got the German version of the pocket size. So excited for the English version. Thanks for spreading the love!
Glad you mentioned the book at the end. Had a mini panic attack thinking the book the book! What about the book! Best lwb there is. You get it in the pocket size as well =)
I have the standard and pocket editions with the cross backs but I am purchasing this one...well it's in the mail, I'm just waiting for it. Thank you for the video!
I received the AGM deck and while I like the original backs, I was surprised how well my pre copyright 70's edition held up to it. (Not the backs, of course). And I noticed how much darker the black outlines were, so appears heavier. Those early USGs deck had wonderful detail that I'm partial to. Am I crazy or what!? Thanks for your wonderful videos, Lisa. Anne
Hello Gina! Let me know what you think! I'm hearing that the deck is now, strangely, hard to find -- at least the links to the English edition appear to be broken. Eager to hear if you're able to track it down, and what you end up thinking about it! xoxo
Hi! I bought it from AGM-Urania, from Germany. The shipping cost was still high for Greece, so I bought a deck of Marseille Convos along the order. Beautiful decks! I Great quality! Thank you!!
I'm not finding them to be distracting... but after I filmed this, I pulled out one of my vintage decks - and remembered just how LOVELY Pixie's calligraphy is... Ah well... we can't have everything....
I really love this deck. I have it in the standard edition and just purchased the pocket size. I also want the large edition, which will have to wait. Thank you for these videos.
Lisa this was truly an eye opener and you are absolutely right about the detail i think for readings this would be great with the new deck that Two Spirts did a walk through on Pam's Vintage. I just viewed it earlier and was really impressed i really think maybe the two decks would be good together. I really enjoyed this Lisa and Thank you so very much for sharing. Namaste
Hi Breanne - thank you so much for kind words and for stopping by. Funny you should mention Pam's Vintage deck. I just received my copy today, and I absolutely love the deck! Size, aged color, cardstock: it's really well done. Maybe I'll do a comparison video at some point...
Yes, thank you, i as well really love Pam's Vintage. It;s great to carry with you and i will watch for your video if you decied to do it ....and that would be great!! Take care of you, Lisa
Thank you so much for this. Having just received my copy of the English version (bought because of this video!) I am blown away by the beauty of the deck, it is like looking at it through new eyes. So many details just pop off the cards now. So once again many thanks for sharing, my little tarot heart is humming with happiness!
Hello Gale Sal, I'm in the UK and got the deck through the AGM Urania website (www.tarotworld.com). The deck was shipped from Germany. Having just checked it is no longer on there, but hopefully they will have more stock soon. Hope that helps! x
Alas - the issue is copyright, not a matter of being out of stock. You can't find the deck online anymore. I've got an update video on the topic: ruclips.net/video/eSmov9qWunE/видео.html
I finally got this deck in english, the whole thing is fantastic, except the color of the Empress's face. She looks a little green around the gills :) Also, something I noticed about it as I was considering trimming it, the white borders are uneven, especially noticeable on my 7 of cups at the bottom of the card, the white border is wider at one end than on the other
My understanding was that the Original Rider waite is based on Pam C from the 30's and the centemmial is based on the PAM A second issue with crackled back..not roses and lilies first run.
I'm not an RWS fan but this looks well done and I like the detail. I've always thought the line reproduction in all the RWS versions were a mess. There's a somewhat recent gold box AG Muller version of the Thoth that I hope is of this quality.
Hi! thanks for watching and writing. I have the AGM gold box of the Thoth and I'm sorry to say that I didn't find it equally revelatory. It's very nice, but it's a pocket edition (unless a larger version has also come out) - so details are actually hard to see. I actually think the green box US Games of that deck is pretty darn good (I own a trimmed copy, and find it extremely vibrant with very nice card stock.) I think that the issues around printing and facsimile might not be as intense with the Thoth.... and certainly, all of the Thoth reproductions I've seen are better than the Sam Weiser vintage editions from 1969 (although owning that is delicious and wonderful for other reasons...) - Not sure if this info helps, but I thought I'd share! xoxo
This is a nice deck. I have US game version which turned out to be not so original and they even have copyrighted this deck or something. The reprint version with lillies and roses is said to be imperfect to make it look like it was printed back then but I doubt that.
Oooh - can't wait to hear what you think. (And sorry about your Albano-Waite disappointment. Sounds like you got one of the 1990 Belgium printed decks. They're nice - but not what you were looking for, I warrant.) xo
Yeah. Seller said the box said 1968 so not sure what went on there. As for this AGM deck, I am still trying to communicate with the German side and it is a bit slow at the moment. Will definitely do an update :)
1968 probably is listed like 1971 is on all the US Games versions... Indeed, the US Games LWB lists a copyright of "1968, 1987" for these decks, as I recall.
Good point. The cards are extremely worn so they are feel airy and fluffy. The surfaces are nice a smooth but not glossy. She did say the cardstock here is different than any others. So Belgium would explain that. Boxes and copyrights are tricky. The only way I knew was from your description of the lavender background of the Knight of Coins. So thanks for that! This deck will be a working horse for sure since it is so well worn. But I am not a fan of Pam's art, so it won't surprise me if I ended up giving it away at some point :D
Hello, I want the spanish version (I don't care about the font), but I just wanna know if it's a sharp deck, because I bought a "Centennial" edition and (in my case) it seems a color photocopy, is not shatp at all... What about the quality in this?
Oh thank you so much for sharing this, sadly on the link there isn't a English standard size option, just the pocket, so I'll be searching in other areas. 😊
Thanks for pointing that out. You've probably found it by now -- I've added it above. Here it is too: www.tarotworld.com/shop/tarot/tarot-all-cards-decks/f816fe1d4dd44c4c9e8807f59b4a213e.html?tx_kfproducts_pi1[showUid]=40
Hey. Thanks u so much for the info. Where can I buy one of Rider Tarot but ancient? I mean. I want one with the letters ancient and the back classic blue with stripes?
Thank you for showing this! I peeked at it at the AGM homepage and wished to see more of the deck, now that I've seen it: it's beautiful indeed! However I think the version I have (also AGM & German but the backs are blue with white cross) the fronts are exactly the same... The shading and details look like they are the same...
Yes - I'm understanding that there was a "Deluxe" version released that was very similar, except that it has the Rosicrucian cross and a small copyright on the back as well. The box was quite similar to the edition I have, except that the sides were blue instead of orange. I'm not sure if the LWB was also by Rachel Pollack...? But I gather that the colors and print quality are the same as this pebble-back version. There's a discussion of the two versions on Aeclectic: www.tarotforum.net/showthread.php?t=263203&page=3 - I think this Rosicrucian version has now been discontinued. - Thanks so much for writing! xoxo
Thank you for such a thorough reply! :) My deck has no copyright on the cards whatsoever- and the Deluxe, in my knowledge had the yellow-ish cross with red rose in the middle, mine has all white (the rose shows some light blue on it)... :) Rosicrucian is a word that was not in my English vocabulary, thank you for that too!
This is so interesting! a little more web research is turning up an OLDER "deluxe" AGM version that had the yellowish rose you describe (that's the Rosicrucian cross) with the copyright. From this image, it looks like that's a 2007 edition. Check out this image: www.misost.biz/data/big/rider_waite_tarot_deluxe-s3.jpg But it also looks like there was a 2016 (re-issue?) Deluxe deck. I can't find pix of it anyway. All the links I find now lead to the new Premium edition. I'd LOVE to see pix of your deck, if you're willing to do a video or even just email me at oregonmindfulness[dot]gmail... Thanks so much!!
This is great! so helpful (and I can't wait to watch your whole deck collection vids - I hadn't seen these before!)... What you're showing is, I'm pretty sure, the Deluxe AGM edition that came out with a blue bordered box -- I think it was a forerunner to the new "Premium" edition. Same cardstock and images, but different backs. Weird that it said "Albano-Waite" on the box you got....?
It's weird indeed, I actually wanted the Albano but got this- yet I'm not even mad, I really like this one out of the all RWS I've seen :) Thank you for all the insightful replies, I've learned a lot
hi lisa, I have just ordered the AGM premium RW deck from Poland, & only cost me £20 that's inc FREE P&P, like you have mentioned it seems to be banned in the UK & USA, the font I have chosen is in English, as it did not seem to bad, I think the reason they have not gone for , the original , Pam, co, sm , is because that would be a full copy of the original RW deck, ps I managed to purchase another 2 x BLUSHING FOOL DECKS , for as little as, £30 for both, so easy to obtain here in the UK, have you managed to get old of a deck yet ?
I'm so sorry! If you live in the UK or US you can't find this deck anymore... The ISBN for the English version is: 978-3-03819-460-6 Here's my update about the copyright issues for this deck: ruclips.net/video/eSmov9qWunE/видео.html
Hi Lisa. Great video. Just though I'd add a comment to this particular version of the Waite. I'm not 100% sure but just like the new borderless edition that has been expanded via photoshop this new AGM edition has also in my opinion been edited with many of the lines redrawn. Take a look at the Fool card and notice that the Fool's bag no longer has the broken line. The rays from the Hermits lamp also have continuous light rays unlike the original :)
That's really interesting! Thank you so much!.... And your point also makes me wonder: what do we even mean when we're talking about the "original"? Every RWS deck out there that claims to present us with Pixie's "original" art, has been reproduced in some fashion from an existing Pam A, B, C or D deck... and reproduction always entails some amount of deciding whether you clean up small irregularities in the particular deck you're using as your model, or not... E.g. if you're reproducing images from a deck that happens to have a scratch on a given card, do you erase that scratch or reproduce it?... Do you know what I mean???? What makes one reproduction more authentic than another??? At what point do we call "foul"?
Yes that's a fair point :) This is a very interesting topic. I guess we will never know what Pixie's original artwork really looked like. My go to Waite-Smith deck would be the first printing of it before Pam A from 1909 (The Centennial edition). Additionally from my own personal research on the deck and love for Pixie's artwork other than the Tarot, I would be willing to conclude that the first printing of the deck from 1909 was most likely colored by Pixie as the style of coloring is almost identical to her other artwork. However there is a lot of speculation on this and the reason behind the differences in all the various printings is allegedly due to the printing plates being recolored by other artists for Pam A, B, C, D. Additionally the first printing was quickly withdrawn due to the images looking too harsh and that is why in later editions we see the coloring being smoothed out with more solid colors. To end this essay :) I can add that only the recolored plates have been lost but not the original black and white drawings. The Pictorial Key To The Tarot - 1910 Edition has all the original black and white drawings.
Pincho Paxton Yes, you may be right - because I don’t think they re-scanned the original cards. The Rachel Pollack booklet is a plus, and the card stock and crackle backs are also really lovely.
Unfortunately, the camera is out of focus on the cards, and the closer that you hold them to the camera, the blurrier they get. But thank you for making the video regardless.
I love this deck the most so far. It would be perfect if the font is Pixie's version.
Thank you for posting this. I agree, this is the best RWS deck. I even like it for the typeset lettering on the cards.
The colours are so crisp in this version. There isn't that going overboard with the sepia tone like you in the PCS Commemorative Version. It's been remastered really well. I'm impressed. Thanks for sharing - Søren
I prefer the Centennial. This deck is beautiful and I see your points though 👍

Simon Fernandes Hi Simon! Are you Wheel of Fantastic??? Nice to meet you over here on YT! ❤️❤️❤️
I am Wheel of Fantastic. Big fan of your channel, i'm a vintage deck nut as well!
... I ended up getting the German edition on Amazon just now for £12. Thanks again for sharing this and enabling me! 😉
Apologies to your bank account!
The pocket edition AGM was the first tarot deck I ever bought, just stumbled across it in a book store one day. Since then I haven't seen a reproduction that I like as much. Beginners luck I guess!
Salamanders are thought to survive fire unscathed. That is why they have come to be the elementals associated with fire.
I have the pink striped ankh back RWS printed by university books. The colours and card stock are great
Me, too
I have this deck and its my favourite RWS, I think its beautiful too.
Do you have this same version? I haven't read with it yet... Thanks for watching and writing xoxo
Yes I have the same version, I enjoy using it to do readings. I really like the colouring of this version. I have both the standard and the pocket sizes; also like the box for each one.

Have you seen the relatively new Taschen facsimile edition of the 1910 rws that comes in that book set? Curious of your thoughts on it!
I have the standard and pocket editions with the cross backs but I am purchasing this one...well it's in the mail, I'm just waiting for it. Thank you for the video!

Just on time! I couldn't make up my mind on what RWS tarot deck to buy. Because that will be my first one! Thank you very much for sharing this!

Thinking you must be a secret agent for AGM :)
I was COMPELLED to purchase this after watching your vid.
And like i need another RWS in my life....
I love it! I wonder if the titles will be distracting...
I'm not finding them to be distracting... but after I filmed this, I pulled out one of my vintage decks - and remembered just how LOVELY Pixie's calligraphy is... Ah well... we can't have everything....

Honestly, i prefer the " Smith - Waite borderless edition by USGAMES.

oh that fills me with such tarot-y gladness! Thanks so much for watching and writing. Many happy spreads to you, m'dear! xoxo
where did you get the English version? im in the US

Definitivamente es el más lindo de todos ❤
I hope that this deck will be more readably available right now this version has got more expensive since the discovery
This is a nice deck. I have US game version which turned out to be not so original and they even have copyrighted this deck or something. The reprint version with lillies and roses is said to be imperfect to make it look like it was printed back then but I doubt that.
Thanks to your videos I bought the pocket size edition!!!!!! I always loved A&M. But this lovely deck. ... I am in love😍😍😍😍😍
I am in the process of acquiring this :D So excited to hear what you have to say :D Watching now :D

Thank you for such a thorough reply! :) My deck has no copyright on the cards whatsoever- and the Deluxe, in my knowledge had the yellow-ish cross with red rose in the middle, mine has all white (the rose shows some light blue on it)... :)
Rosicrucian is a word that was not in my English vocabulary, thank you for that too!
This is so interesting! a little more web research is turning up an OLDER "deluxe" AGM version that had the yellowish rose you describe (that's the Rosicrucian cross) with the copyright. From this image, it looks like that's a 2007 edition. Check out this image: www.misost.biz/data/big/rider_waite_tarot_deluxe-s3.jpg
But it also looks like there was a 2016 (re-issue?) Deluxe deck. I can't find pix of it anyway. All the links I find now lead to the new Premium edition. I'd LOVE to see pix of your deck, if you're willing to do a video or even just email me at oregonmindfulness[dot]gmail... Thanks so much!!

hi lisa, I have just ordered the AGM premium RW deck from Poland, & only cost me £20 that's inc FREE P&P, like you have mentioned it seems to be banned in the UK & USA, the font I have chosen is in English, as it did not seem to bad, I think the reason they have not gone for , the original , Pam, co, sm , is because that would be a full copy of the original RW deck, ps I managed to purchase another 2 x BLUSHING FOOL DECKS , for as little as, £30 for both, so easy to obtain here in the UK, have you managed to get old of a deck yet ?
I prefer the Centennial.. I can’t deal with the typewriter font.. I also don’t get why it’s compared to Pam A
Hi, great video!! I was wondering if you could tell me the ISBN number for this deck? I wanna make sure I buy the correct one
I'm so sorry! If you live in the UK or US you can't find this deck anymore... The ISBN for the English version is: 978-3-03819-460-6
Here's my update about the copyright issues for this deck: ruclips.net/video/eSmov9qWunE/видео.html
I want a deck that has the original drawing with modern hd colouring and no copyright spoiling every card. any suggestions?
Like I get that the images are clear and crisp but the colors aren’t comparable to Pam a in my opinion.. It is good quality tho..
German!
I know German, so is no problem for me.
Guten abend!
I got my spanish version (The force in the box)
Hi Lisa. Great video. Just though I'd add a comment to this particular version of the Waite. I'm not 100% sure but just like the new borderless edition that has been expanded via photoshop this new AGM edition has also in my opinion been edited with many of the lines redrawn.
I believe there is a reason for the breaks in the photos
I have the 1993 version, but this looks much better quality... although the extra quality is most likely computer generated.

Faces on this deck are too Yellow, and skies are too light.. I don't like 😪
what deck might you be talking about? no one appreciates having their time wasted incomplete not even going to watch because of stupid title bye
