The pigments and colors used in the making of the 1968 deck are most likely different from the “recipe” of pigments/colors used in the 90s and currently (2000s) Better pigments and technology used today. So most all decks made in the 60s, 70s and 80s are truly one of a kind and unique as it pertains to the colors and will never be recreated. Making them even MORE precious, to me anyway lol I’m not an art scholar and barely an artist lol
“Why is it so hard to capture what is going on in the court?” EXACTLY my question! Surely US Games could afford to hire an artist AND printer who could reproduce these colors. It seriously can’t be that hard. We are mainly talking about big, solid colored backgrounds and other sections of color that aren’t that small and fussy. Sheesh! In other, better news, I have now preordered a few copies of your book so I feel I’ve accomplished something for my Tarot practice today even if it wasn’t “finding a new cheap alternative to the 1968 A-W that still looks just as good” 😂 Much love to you!!
Jennifer! you preordered "a few" copies of my book?!? You are amazing. Thanks for your support - and I hope the book doesn't disappoint. - Much love right back atcha. Hey, remind me where you hang your hat? I'm trying to set up some book tour visits, and it would be nice to end up in your neck of the woods at some point...
Mindful Tarot yeah I mean I think it was 2 copies! One for me and one to give away on Instagram some day! I’ve adopted a quarterly giveaway schedule and I have summer all planned out but I need stuff for fall 😊 so maybe my extra copy will go in that bundle! I like to use my giveaways to “advertise” for people I like ❤️❤️ And I’m in Bellevue (bear Seattle) so it shouldn’t be hard to have a book event near me, right?? 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Loved the albano Waite! Til I saw your recent videos of the colouring! I’m so eager to get my hands on a vintage one. I have a University books version on the RWS which I love but albano Waite is just so beautiful
12:32~German Edition. 19:27~The original one is so stunning. (--> 1991, Printed in Belgium) I wish it will be reprinted just like the original version quality(color,cardstock..etc) again. And Thank you for the this video :)
Thanks for doing a comparison of the different versions of the Albano-Waite. The original truly did have the best colouring. Good to know the German version has great cardstock. The only deck that would really benefit from the colour saturation is the Happy Tarot just because of the fantasy Candy world vibe it has going for it.
I wouldn't say it's GREAT card stock. It's good card stock - better than typical Cartamundi. But it's not as good, for instance, as some of the most recent US Games (e.g. the Centennial...)
Thank you so much for this video. It made me realise that I would rather hold out for a vintage edition with those beautiful colours. And now I have one on the way! I am so excited!
@@MindfulTarot NOooo everyone else mispronounces it... Actually it was a perfect pronounciation but i ususally accept anything.HA you are most welcome.
LOVE the Albano-Waite! And especially love the mystery surrounding Albano and his (her?) sudden disappearance after creating the deck. “The world may never know” I suppose.
I'm pretty sure Frankie's a guy. I did a small reading on what became of him and blogged it not long ago. fennario.wordpress.com/2019/06/03/frankie-albano-please-call-home/ I also embedded a youtube song that I'm almost certain is the same Frankie Albano. What I didn't ask is WHY he dropped out of sight. There are rumors about a disagreement with Stuart Kaplan, but you never know if these things are true or not!
Hi Lisa. I just ordered a my copy from eBay. It's a US Games co. Facsimile printed in italy circa 1987. Do you own an Italian version of the deck from the 80's? If so, what are your thoughts on the quality of the printing?
I have the Italian 80s facsimile print just for study and comparison, as for me they are too loud to use for readings. This is not the decks fault, it is beautiful, just my personal preference. The print can be slightly muddy or blurry in places, or a bit of colour bleeding, but not to the point where it is unusable. To me this adds to their charm as an older style deck : )
I suspect the difference may be in what inks were available. I think some inks were found to contain cancer causing agents, leading to some tricky color dances...that's just a guess, but certainly a possibility. The most modern printing, I chalk up to laziness. They don't think they have to make improvements if they're still selling decks, so why bother making things better? It is very disappointing and Frankie Albano, no doubt is spinning in his grave! I just hate it.
It's an interesting thought, but it all falls apart when you look at recently printed decks. There's actually a very impressive color palette available. Even if, say, the pale lavender ink of Albano's Page of Pentacles has been taken off the market for some reason, there are other pale lavenders available that could get so close as to be near-indistinguishable. There's no reason to use gray instead. I suspect that the reason may be to avoid being sued for infringing on Albano's copyright. We don't know that he ever gave permission for US Games to reprint his deck. If they fudge the colors, they can claim in court that it isn't Albano's recoloring of the RWS. Of course, that doesn't justify using Albano's name to sell the deck. It's a mystery I'd love to get to the bottom of, and USG needs to be a lot more transparent than they have been.

Thank you so much for this video! Could you please help me where to find the link to the 2019 edition of the deck? I bought one from Amazon some 2 years ago and its quality was just awful, very blurry, very dark, extremely plastic-shiny, it was very disappointing. Then I bought another one from Ebay, it said it was the 1991-edition - no, it wasn't... I paid so much for that one but it is not too much better than the plastic version. I found the German version but it does not show the cards and people are complaining in their comments - so who knows what the boxes hide. But this Italian version seems very nice - just I am not sure which link leads to that edition. The real 1991 Belgium version is on its way to me - it cost a lot, too, and I would not like to use it on a daily level so as to protect it, so this 2019 version would be so great just I am already scared that I will be sent the plastic version again. Thank you so much for your work and your videos, Blessings to you! :)
I just got mine from Amazon - but you could also order directly from US Games. I think at this point the icky plasticky Italian ones are probably not being sold on Amazon so much... the new Italian printed ones are vastly superior. I'm sorry you got cheated on the Belgium edition that wasn't! - Thanks so much for watching!!!

@@MindfulTarot Thank you so much for your help! :) Also for your great Channel! Yes, the 'Belgian' edition was a pain... I paid almost 100 USD for a plastic deck almost of the same quality as the icky plastic one... I hope I will be sent a nice matte paper version this time. Thank you again, have a nice day!
Hi Lisa, thanks so much for this video! That exact topic creeped me out (and had me alert) a year ago when I was hunting the MOEWIG deck and was looking into YT videos for comparisons. The University Books is lovely too - but I think it's the deck that inspired Albano because HE didn't like its coloring...
Thanks for sharing. I'm still in search for that 1968 deck. ❤

keep your eyes peeled on eBay. You can sometimes find surprising bargains, if you're able to spend between $75 and $100 (a big "if" I know)...
US Games is slowly ruining this monumental deck. I wish they would fix the saturation in later reprints.
