Will is one of the most talented vocalists in the genre. He did a video with Charismatic Voice where they up a camera up his nose and down his throat to see what was actually going on when he does the many different techniques he uses. It’s wild.

To the issue about the vocals, creating these sounds is very counterintuitive to anyone who hasn't played around with it. It's mostly about creating restrictions in the area of the throat above the vocal chords (and all the way into the mouth). So you get tissues that are not the delicate vocal chords to vibrate and restrict airflow and make those sounds. It's akin to learning how to whistle or how to burp really loud, just orders of magnitude more difficult. I really appreciate your thoughtful discussion and interest, subbed.

You need to react to the video where he met up with the charismatic voice and they put a camera down his throat while he does some of his vocals! She titles the video operation throat cam. Also i thibk you would absolutely love lorna shore's the pain remains trilogy. Its really heartfelt and kinda toned down

I watched the video reaction, you impressed the hell out of me willing to revisit, I saw the look of horror on your face, and I know I'm echoing the same shit everyone is saying, but you need to do the Pain Remains Trilogy, fo it all in one shot, it's sincerely one of the most tragically beautiful pieces of music ever created. I'm also a huge fan of Elizabeth, and the fact that you esteem her enough to step out of your comfort zone.

Will is one of those people who, in addition to talent, has something else, he handles all the registers at an absurd speed, he is capable of applying beastly resonances to his voice, changing the rhythm, the tone and doing it all with apparent ease and also he transmits an emotion and a superlative energy from another world. In addition to the talent, he is touched by some Lovecraftian god hahaha.
I discovered your channel today, subscribed, enjoyed your reaction, very natural.

Hi Nikki. Id like to request a song a song from a foreign band you most likely never heard of. The band is called Dir En Grey and the song is called Uroko. They are a Japanese metal band and the singers voice is unlike anyone I've ever heard he literally can do everything from deep growls to clean vocals to operatic singing and high shrieks. So check them out if bands in other languages interests you at all. Keep up all the good videos.

10:01 you're definitely not hurting your vocal chords as long as you have proper technique. Check out extreme vocal institute and you'll get a really good idea of how the technique works.
I always called it a chimera scream, but goblin, I think is a term Will uses.
Definitely check out Alex Terrible from Slaughter to Prevail for another top tier death metal vocalist and then definitely check out Spirit Box's Courtney LaPlante and then also Ginger for 2 female vocalists that can sing and scream seamlessly.
Great video. Thanks for not stopping every 12 seconds and ruining the reaction vibe either. ❤

King- Immortal Disfigurement (featuring the Ex Lorna Shore vocalist in his new band)

all 3 vocalists(death Portrait and King are the same person)
are other top Tier Vocalists with exceedingly impressive vocals

Hi! One of Will's students here. In simplest terms, it's possible to go so hard in this style because, while it sounds and looks super intense, performing it correctly is actually done in a very relaxed state. When I got my direct feedback from our trio of instructors, Elizabeth specifically commented on how super relaxed I looked, which I think most harsh vocalists do when they cut out the "showman" part of the performance. Also, nothing wrong with respecting something that you're not fully into. I don't like opera, but respect the hell out of opera singers!

@TheAndyzilla the course is accessible through Chris Liepe's website. I believe all 3 channels for Will Ramos, The Charismatic Voice, and Chris Liepe have released promotional videos. Not sure if they're still offering a package that includes Zoom calls with the instructors. It was only available for a week the first time around.

It's actually not as hard on the vocal folds or chords, it just sounds like it would be. Will, and nearly every other metal singer have learned how to make those noises without doing any damage. It is all about the technique, the placement of vowels and really just tons & tons of practice! Of course it is not for everyone, that's the beauty of music. You like what you like, no worries!

You need to do Lorna Shore, The Pain Remains Trilogy, with the official video, with lyrics, it's an emotional masterpiece (yes, you read that right)
Also, I'm not seeing any Killswitch Engage, Trivium, In Flames, Avatar, Lamb of God. There's a whole world of amazing shit out there.

  • @christheripper7

A lot of the harsh vocals come from the stomach, like actual singing. A lot of people hurt themselves when they use their throat. Even actual singers do it and have to have vocal chord surgery. It takes a lot of practice to do it correctly. It took me a while to get it down. Nothing like will. But once you get the technique, you can play around to get different sounds.

You might like Gojira they're a little bit more mellow and melodic in some of their songs, also Sleep Token have those clean almost "pop-music like" vocals in between metal vocals, you should also react to Jinjer - Pisces, Nightwish - Ghost Love Score (Live @ Wacken 2013 is best version), is you like Deep Bassy vocals you'll like Till Lindemann from Rammstein, they're an amazing German band, just put up lyrics with translation nearby when reacting, one of my favorite songs of theirs is Sonne.
Lorna Shore also has a Death Metal Ballad called the Pain Remains trilogy, it's amazing. Watch the one with subtitles, it's great.

As someone who is still learning how to do harsh vocals and can somewhat do them, I can say, it only hurts if you do it wrong, with proper technique and practice it's almost as easy as just singing normally. Only "hard" part about it for me at least is breath control.

music like this is definitely not for everyone. and it's an acquired taste for a lot of people, I think. It definitely was for me. (I'm also far from an expert, I don't really know the specific genre differences or what genre this is technically called... it gets very specific). But... I started out just listening to the kind of emo songs where there are some screamed vocals mixed with mostly sung vocals. And I would enjoy it as like a punchy, emphatic part of the song, but I didn't like the songs that were all screamed vocals. one day I came across a CD that was on sale, it was an album by The Number Twelve Looks Like You, which is metal/hardcore. They also had a song on this sampler that came with a My Chemical Romance album, a lot of people got that back in the day. I remembered the name from that, and I looked up their music and really gave them a chance. And I got into their instrumentals and song structures before I got into the vocals - but that followed. And now that kind of music is something I can put on when I want to feel a lot of energy, or if I'm feeling kind of angry. Weirdly it can also be like white noise music to me. I have taken a nap with hardcore music playing in the background.... idk if that's normal though, lol.
Lorna Shore and that kind of music, I don't know what the subgenre is like I said, but it seems like they focus on having animalistic sounds... I can put them on and scare myself/wake myself up into getting stuff done. I also find the higher screaming particularly unsettling, I think it sounds even more 'inhuman' somehow.

    It's like a horror movie
Yeah same as black metal, I don't think death metal is even scary anyone trying to make it scary is just cheese to me anyway.
Deathcore and black metal are actually scary and more horrific vocals. Death metal should upbeat and inspirational or purposely cheesey. Why Cannibal Corpse works they are almost cartoony, with the lyrics.
I got the problem of I have been listening to extreme metal so long, I can easily understand 90% of it.
