  • Got it from my uncle as just a frame and the bottom end. New cylinder, piston, head, etc. Painted. Rear shock getting rebuilt, because it's apparently missing a rebound and quite messed up, hence the crate. A hose between the radiators wasn't hooked up (I pointed it out but he insisted it was fine) so it spewed coolant everywhere. Worked fine once we hooked that up.

      Motor has since seen a full rebuild, gaskets and all. Shock was rebuilt to my dad's weight as well. It still runs great. Super fast.

    I can't wait until I get mine fully restored 100%.I just hope the warp 9 rims fit on the bike so I can make it street legal.

    The Magnesium water pumps from that year till 1987 did that when the bike set.

      @IHazABone  6 лет назад

      Ken Harris Yup jt had a hole in it which was leaking coolant into the main case. In this video, the leak was just a hose being unplugged.

    Sounds really strong even though you messed up the restore by painting the plastic

    • @IHazABone
      @IHazABone  6 лет назад

      George Micheal did not paint any of the plastics. The frame, slightly, but not the plastics. They look like crap in person. We didn't want to restore it perfectly, just get it in good running shape so we can have some fun with it around the logging roads and mountains here :) it's been crashed a few times. Motor has since been rebuilt again and it runs even stronger. Maybe one day we'll restore it properly :)

    Stop holding the throttle wide open when you try to start it just kick it over three times to prime it and give it a good kick at tdc, it should start in two or three kicks at tdc, and finding tdc is Critical, you’ll be kicking it for days with the throttle held wide open like that just my advice! And you want to avoid touching the throttle after prime kicking it. trust me I have made that mistake on my 500s and I couldn’t get them started at all, I found my own trick hope it works for you!

      I agree somewhere between 4 and 500 percent. I once wore out my leg when I first bought my 85 XR 600R which was an absolute BEAST to try and start. I learned the routine , NO GAS, whale on it at TDC. Repeat. I once almost broke my thumb because it backfired so bad on me that it catapulted my leg straight up to the handle bar and smashed into my thumb, another time my knee actually almost reached my ear. NO GAS.

    Looks like a bad radiator cap, my 1984 rm125 did the same thing when I fired it up for the first time in 23 years, replaced the radiator cap and haven't had a problem yet

    • @IHazABone

      2 stroke Machines we missed a hose lol runs awesome now, we run it up and around the mountains and logging roads here (I know, MX bike, oh well) and it's wicked fast.

    1984 was an air cooled bike. This bike has wings on the front of the gas tank like a water cooled bike would have on a 1985 cr 500r.

    • @IHazABone

      1981 was the first year for water cooling.

      Not on this year and model if its in fact a 1984 cr 500r. 1984.was the last year that honda produced an air cooled cr 500r. I dont wanna debate it. Im just stateing leaning facts that I kmow to be true.
