Hi Robert . I am a dedicated follower of Fully Charged . I have now ordered the new BMW X5 45E . I know you be upset about it being a hybrid and that it has a 3Litre gas engine . But I am selling my big 5.7 litre V8 that does 15 mpg . I need a Vehicle that will tow 7000 lbs , most full EV cars will only tow 3500 lbs . Also I will be doing regular 400 mile trips to the coast , here in the US . So sorry about the hybrid , but it’s a start for us in the US , and I must say I am excited about plugging it in . Watch Harry’s Garage when he did a long term test on the BMW X5 45E , built here in the USA .
@@michaelgreenhalgh7118 understandable but it has to somehow fit in with the rest of the Mercedes fleet. I heard it looks much better in person, though.
@@mimamooon7926 yes to a certain extent would you want to pay £100,000 for a car with the same front nose as a boy racer £20,000 car? Mercedes could have upped the price and kept extremely close to the concept. I feel disappointed at the external. However the inside it just 😯🥺😲😊
The Mercedes S-Class has always been the definition of high-end cars since its inception. Many modern technologies have been pioneered or first put to mass-production in an S-Class vehicle. It may have not been so pronounced in the last few decades with BMW and Audi delivering high quality carss alike. I am impressed to see, that Mercedes obviously tries to extend that into BEV. Lets see, what the specs will be like and if the car can live up to that, but what I see here is already very impressive.
Brilliant piece of kit that. Robert, I have watched Fully Charged from its inception days. It's a great show, a real world review of the electric space. And how the world has progressed in that light! To think that you have now exclusive access to brands like Mercedes-Benz just shows how far you and the show have come. Kudos, much applause! Wonderful review for this piece of very futuristic tech on wheels.
I only have the EQC, but its coasting ability is not like other cars. The drivetrain is almost frictionless and the combination of low body drag and wheels means it just carries on coasting. The D-auto mode adapts the regen according to traffic in front as well. Mercedes has done a good job with their EQ tech.
My precise thought. Unless I'm mistaken, To dry isn't a particularly huge human. As for "adjustable" Lower seat cushion = knees in the air, so no, there isn't much headroom in the back.
Great review, love that you can show joy like a child which is so authentic and let us feel what you feel for us. This is the first S-Class I want. Best EV in the world!
We don't know if the outside is beautiful. We don't know how competitive the "EV" part is. Otherwise, welcome to the party. (Remember, they hailed the EQC?)
Like others here, I was expecting more than £100k - £120k, but then the S Class starts at £78k, so that's still at least £22k more, which isn't pocket change. Quite surprised at how excited Robert was with the electrically adjustable seats, given they've been around for 20 years or more!
Exactly i loved how he pointed out the rear tablets we're from 2014 according to the stickers still on them. Imagine using 2014 tech in a 2022 100k+pound luxo vehicle. 😅👍🏻
Like the Porsche Taycan outselling the 911, I think this will outsell the regular S class. I honestly think this is the turning point for electric cars. Other than a slight deficiency in range, electric cars are on par or better than traditional ICE powered cars.
What a fantastic video - simply wonderful to see a grown man so expressively excited about what is probably the best toy he's ever had the chance to play with! 😂🤣😂🤣😂 I particularly liked the fact that in his excited state he seems to have created new sounds ..... not actual words, just guttural expressions of pleasure. What a great tonic as we start to come out of lockdown. And what a simply stunning piece of automotive technology. Hat's off to the team at Mercedes who conceived and designed this masterpiece. And for the lucky few who will be able to afford one - I hope you love it as much as Robert does!!
@@robhsomething4272 So compare it to the Taycan.... FAR more expensive,..... MUCH less internal space (in the same exterior footprint as the Model S!)..... Much less range...... In relation to "A bit of rarely used speed"...... Seems to be a more logical comparison?
@@robhsomething4272 i think that guy is not 100 right in the head, BUT there is some truth in his ramblings. this will compete with the Taycan in Europe and not the Model S since the Model S is pretty dead in Europe. there were 13 Model S sold in Q1 in europes biggest EV market.
one may get lucky and experience it as a taxi in 4-5 years time - one from the airport where you plan your position in the queue so that the family of 6 in front of you get the 15 year old rusty old hyundai bus and you with your briefcase get this one. Well I can dream.
No way. An S class costs about 10-20k less. But it depends on taxes on each country. Also will depend a lot on the optional extras. The pillows, the soft leather, the self closing doors, seats with heating/cooling/massage, rear screens, the matrix headlights, driving aids, everything will be optional. Mercedes are good at nickel and dining every last dollar.
That's a really stupid statement. Any car less than 50% of the projected EQS price SHOULD feel "a bit junky"? If it didn't, Mercedes should have questions to answer??

@@Glomby LOL. Awesome. I love it.
Thx for this video !!!! I loved it and how you presented the best electric car in the world (for me and for now) !! The quality and features do set a new baseline for whomever will build a new electric lux car from now on. I am looking forward to the updates to the EQC with some of the features of the "S". German engineering at it's finest. A liitle bit late in the game but a changer and new level to whatever comes next.
Brilliant review and great fillip for the channel to get such a preview from MB!! Beat everyone to the scoop! Congratulations!! But be honest though Robert, do you like it? ;)
This video could be titled "normal guy finds out what it's like to be rich".
5 stars for Star Trek references ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
His idea of the "latest Star Trek" is literally 35 years old.
Robert, having watched many of your reviews I really think you, and your team should be awarded EV - "Presenter of the Year Award" for entertainment, information and presentation.
I think Robert likes this car 😄 I think I would too
bobby's washer-fluid reaction is so wholesome.
Amazing car those cushion head rests look a bit naff though
He's Merlin!! " I had my magic wand last week, but can't for the life of me remember where I put it". He has nothing to prove, totally confident and completely charming! The way he acts lets me know the car has really impressed him, like he was years ago when he drove a Model S for the very first time! (March 26, 2014)
this video makes me happy🥰 can’t wait for the full reveal
Best four word summary for a car test “I want this one”. 🤓
Robert.
I'm surprised you didn't recognise that "external flap" as a Groinal Socket Interface to enable rapid "Miles Per Bladder" reset!?
The outside just looks squashed. I wish it looked like the concept. The inside looks incredible.
Lol wat, you dont like proportions? Also we dont have the final uncovered look
@@635574 disappointed that it doesn't look like the concept.
I think the front looks like the A class not the biggest fan.
However the inside it just 😯🥺😲😊
Robert is the best non-car journalist, car journalist ever.
I love this guy, this guy is me. I can relate to him.
3:21 That was a real Kryten expression!
Awesome! The S Class needed an Electric
"Hello! This is the Stating the obvious department"
Enjoyed that. Merc have nothing to fear from Tesla. Not even on the same page as regards quality and interior.
To expensive to worry about tesla, lucid air dream edition though. 🤔
Oh dear, he's even fascinated by the car's ability to start rolling when he takes his foot off the brake.
I only have the EQC, but its coasting ability is not like other cars. The drivetrain is almost frictionless and the combination of low body drag and wheels means it just carries on coasting. The D-auto mode adapts the regen according to traffic in front as well. Mercedes has done a good job with their EQ tech.
Finally, a nice Mercedes interior.
You are the absolute best at this!
This is the best review of this car.
Not much headroom in the back seat.
Tha back seat is also adjustable 😉
My precise thought. Unless I'm mistaken, To dry isn't a particularly huge human.
As for "adjustable"
Lower seat cushion = knees in the air, so no, there isn't much headroom in the back.
Great review, love that you can show joy like a child which is so authentic and let us feel what you feel for us. This is the first S-Class I want. Best EV in the world!
So do you like it? I wasn’t quite sure by the end, getting very mixed signals. ;)
Robert, you sir are an absolute gem. Looking forward to meeting you at a fully charged event someday!
Finaly some1 that can beat model s in range.
So finally to put a similar battery in a similar sized car. This was all they needed to do.
@@aproduelektrotechniek9086 it has a slighty bigger battery and slighty better aero. That ads up.
Mercedes has always been a luxury car maker, that's certainly their place in the EV revolution with this beautiful car
We don't know if the outside is beautiful.
We don't know how competitive the "EV" part is.
Otherwise, welcome to the party.
(Remember, they hailed the EQC?)
Well done :-) I know we mortals can only dream but it's lovely to dream! :-)
Like others here, I was expecting more than £100k - £120k, but then the S Class starts at £78k, so that's still at least £22k more, which isn't pocket change. Quite surprised at how excited Robert was with the electrically adjustable seats, given they've been around for 20 years or more!
17:30 the software is not that incredible. Watch Marques Brownlee's review of this car. That guy knows more about software than most of us
Exactly i loved how he pointed out the rear tablets we're from 2014 according to the stickers still on them. Imagine using 2014 tech in a 2022 100k+pound luxo vehicle. 😅👍🏻
What does Marques know about software? Is he a developer?
Like the Porsche Taycan outselling the 911, I think this will outsell the regular S class. I honestly think this is the turning point for electric cars. Other than a slight deficiency in range, electric cars are on par or better than traditional ICE powered cars.
I guess the price you mentioned is the base price? Once you add all the options, it may top out at $180,000 to $200,000?
I was expecting to hear £170k so I suspect you’re right. That quoted price is not THAT much more than a Model S.
Even more, I suspect, especially with those rear displays and the tablet functionality....
"$180,000"?
So less than the Taycan Turbo(😂) S base price?
What a fantastic video - simply wonderful to see a grown man so expressively excited about what is probably the best toy he's ever had the chance to play with! 😂🤣😂🤣😂
I particularly liked the fact that in his excited state he seems to have created new sounds ..... not actual words, just guttural expressions of pleasure.
What a great tonic as we start to come out of lockdown. And what a simply stunning piece of automotive technology. Hat's off to the team at Mercedes who conceived and designed this masterpiece. And for the lucky few who will be able to afford one - I hope you love it as much as Robert does!!
Looks amazing. Move over Model S
Different kettle of fish.
@@rogerstarkey5390 Plaid and Plaid+ start more expensive. You’d be sacrificing heaps of comfort and refinement for a bit of rarely used speed.
@@robhsomething4272
So compare it to the Taycan....
FAR more expensive,.....
MUCH less internal space (in the same exterior footprint as the Model S!).....
Much less range......
In relation to
"A bit of rarely used speed"......
Seems to be a more logical comparison?
@@rogerstarkey5390 I don’t follow your argument
@@robhsomething4272 i think that guy is not 100 right in the head, BUT there is some truth in his ramblings. this will compete with the Taycan in Europe and not the Model S since the Model S is pretty dead in Europe. there were 13 Model S sold in Q1 in europes biggest EV market.
Sir you are an absolute legend. Thoroughly enjoyed watching you glee over this car!
one may get lucky and experience it as a taxi in 4-5 years time - one from the airport where you plan your position in the queue so that the family of 6 in front of you get the 15 year old rusty old hyundai bus and you with your briefcase get this one. Well I can dream.
Looks like the Electric S Class is setting the benchmark again. Well done Mercedes Benz!
To be determined.
@@rogerstarkey5390 to be confirmed
120k doesn't seem high. Aren't the S Class upwards of 200k?
I was thinking that
The only S-Clsses above 200k are the Maybach and the AMG S63/S65
Robert Llewellyn is a national treasure. There. I said it.
Great video.

I love the fact you were excited by the electric seats 🤣😉⚡⚡⚡
Bet your Tesla feels a bit junky as you drive home lol.👍
That's a really stupid statement.
Any car less than 50% of the projected EQS price SHOULD feel "a bit junky"?
If it didn't, Mercedes should have questions to answer??
This must be the best video this channel has published so far. And what an amazing car!
