@@akademiaszermierzy1105 Hey, for us who are NOT native English speakers, you accent is actually EASIER to get that what comes from the other side of the Pond... ;-)
I got mad respect for his view of padded/foam weapons and protective gear. “With less concern for injury, you can focus more on proper technique.” This is why I practice all my fighting sports with foam. Also just a bit cheaper than steel.
Awesome!! I love those red outfits so much, and this was actually great timing because I'm going to be writing about a sabre fight in some fiction soon, lol
Favourite sabre actions are finding all the unusual and unexpected angles that open up with false edqe cuts, especially where you might enter into the action with a moulinet.
I wish this kind of fencing was around when I was a young man ! I would have loved it ! At the time, only Olympic style fencing was available. I would say though that some of the (modern) sabre drills I did were quite similar to what is shown in this video.
i bought my feder a couple a months ago, just waiting for lockdown to end. you guys are an incredible inspiration, i watch your longsword videos regularly
Favorite saber exercise? Downward diagonal cut followed by upward cut in the opposite direction. Then several identical downward diagonal cuts first separated by the rotation of the hand, then by the rotation of the entire body for a powerful strike.
This is awesome, I've been wanting to learn some polish Sabres drills. Could you make another video in this format for longsword? Keep up the great work gents!
Off the top of my head, Good longsword drills: Cross blades at middle distance and use, edge vs flat, strong vs weak, and top vs bottom to 'win' the bind. Add footwork to taste. Practice counter attacks with: Stepping into the attack, Stepping away from the attack, and leg slip (like in this video) Practice two tempo batter and riposte counters from low guards (boar's tooth and full iron gate) Can also do two temp collections and ripostes (Window and Front guards) This is all based on Italian, not sure how well it relates to German LS.
The first drill was basically how I was taught sabre at all. I didn't drill feints as much, I mostly practiced it in live fencing by resolving to only land hits with feints. For footwork, I actually didn't move back a lot. I generally like to apply pressure and move forward, and found myself too close to escape backwards, so what I would do was get even closer, inside the arc of the cut.
Absolutely loved this video! A question, how can I study polish sabre? I'm looking for material to read (aware that there are no direct sources). What sources are you using? Thanks!
No, the order is random. It's the most valuable, because you have to learn to choose proper parry in movement. However for beginners it can be also prearranged order :)
@@akademiaszermierzy1105 Indeed. I'm using most of this video's drills and training techniques to teach "pirate cutlass" (read: naval British saber system) to a little girl. It was amusing how, as we sat watching your video, we did recognize most of the things we do. Exchanges, parries at increasing force to teach her not to fear, combining parries and slips... (we're currently at the "feint and counterfeint" part of training). We just agreed the next part of our training will be the "attack twice, parry twice" exercise you suggest. Thaks for THAT tip.
Really nice video. I startet to support you on patreon and love your videos for polish saber fight. I want to buy me a proper polish saber, but it would be nice to know. What are the stats of the sabers you use. What is the point of balance, the wight, length, curvation. Do you have some suggestions for use, what makes a good Saber for polish fencing?
Thank you very much! Polish sabers can have different parameters. We highly recommend Jan Chodkiewicz - Ensifer and his sabers. It's one of the best for fencing purposes.
What gloves do you use for your sabre spars? i have a Regenyei stirrup sabre with a thumb ring and i've been having difficulties on finding gloves which fit.
For saber with basket Red Dragon is enough. However, if hand protection is limited (like in case of Polish saber) it's good to have something better - for example 5 fingers Sparring Gloves, Infinity Gloves, Progauntlets etc. You just have to know how much space you have between hand and hilt
@@akademiaszermierzy1105 As you can see... i am struggling with the latter. I've only done very light sparring and techniques with lighter fencing gloves reinforced with spes inserts. But i know for sure it isn't really enough.
I have a question for Poles. What is your word for a pike, spear, lance? I know I can use translate 😃 But I need very accurate word, I am interested in ethymology. Thanks.
Sabre work is utterly mesmerizing to me. Flowing, elegant yet deadly.

That can be achieved by a combined horse riding fencing competition. This is what the weapon was designed for.

lots of circles :)

Good job on not throwing only moulinets in the video. Some people have a questionable relationship with moulinets only.
More on this for step by step combos
Очень любопытное видео.
Даю предсказание.

Favorite sabre action is reverse Moulinet. Cheeky little disarm for an untrained opponent.
Sharp swords shatter or chip, so it is better to brute force your way with dull chops than slices.
What is this stlyish weapon shown at 4:57? It looks so otherworldly with that small ringgrip on the side of the handle
I love the art of swords

I have done a little bit of shamshir work, do you think these drills would translate well to it? I never tried to feint with the shamshir.
Sure. Feints and defence with a distance will work perfectly. Parries too, but you have to be carefull - shamshir has very limited hand protection

where would I go to buy a saber, training waster or otherwise?
