That looks delicious! I'm intrigued by your Baked Potato Salad, usually I'm great at mashed potato salad 🫤I could never get it right, lol. Thank you Will! Can't beat a day like this!
Forgive me if I sound wrong here, but I think you should have your own restaurant. Everything you cook looks absolutely amazing. God bless my brother, keep doing what you do. 🙏
Really!!! I had no idea. I wish I lived closer because I definitely would be there frequently. I should have figured because of the quality of dishes that you prepare. Again keep doing what you do my brother and God bless.
That looks great Will! I think that's great keeping the fish thriving. ❤ I wish they had a snook farm,or Goliath grouper farm Lol! Here in florida! Maybe a snook, but season on JF! Lol! Love your content and recipes! Keep it up brother, we enjoy you brother!
Great video Will! What an amazing plate of food you prepared! Done properly, farmed, organic fish are awesome. Not everyone has access to the organic, farmed version, let alone the wild. Fortunately, in Atlantic Canada, I do. Love our fishermen for cod, halibut, haddock etc. Thanks for sharing!!!
Ahh yes! I've caught and eaten plenty of hatchery raised rainbow trout as well as native brook trout in NJ. Every April since I was a kid I'd fish the Paulinskill and Pequest Rivers in Sussex County NJ. Living nearby these "rivers", I'd prefer them to be called streams, it was an easy catch, clean and cook the next day after they stocked. Tons of fish to be caught. While I've never prepared them as you did, I have always found them to be delicious. Fish on brother!
Clams, I used to spend several weekends a year fishing N. Georgia mountain streams stocked with Rainbow Trout as well as native streams. When you catch, clean, & cook these fish in campfire coals, they are out of this world. I either grilled them with just salt, pepper, & lemon or would wrap them in foil with lemon garlic butter & sweet Vidalia onions. Wild or stocked, they were always delicious. Love your recipes & videos.
In Washington State 90% of the fish we catch are hatchery. Whether it's trout, salmon, or steelhead. We can't even keep wild kings, cohos, and steelies. There is nothing wrong with hatchery fish they taste just fine. I love your channel brother. Thanks for liking pics on my Instagram page. It means a lot. ❤
Looks so delicious! My first fish I ever caught was at a trout farm when I was 4 yrs old. It began a life-long love of fishing, especially fly-fishing. Trout are fun to catch whether in the wild or at a hatchery but sustainable fishing is a must as wild stocks become depleted. As you said, just need to do your research and find out fisheries that have the best reputation for good fish culture practices. Thanks again for a great video and recipe.
I thoughly enjoy your channel. This recipe looks very good. I enjoy farmed fish from the markets. However, shooting fish in a barrel is not for me. This is akin to hunting at a dude ranch, just not sporting. Thank for the effort.
I hate to say it but I much prefer farm raised salmon to wild caught. At least when it's found its way to a grocery store. Maybe wild caught would change my mind if I had it freshly caught.
I enjoyed this catch and cook really well...did I miss it as I don't recall you scaling the fish. Were the tails crispy enough to eat, as they weren't cooked a long time?
Being a commercial fisherman I have to recommend Wild. But thair are lots of good farmed sea food such as oysters. That being said with things like shrimp I will always choose north amarican wild caught. But that has to do with how thair farmed over seas.
I took my daughter to a trout hatchery and it was her first fish, I think they are great ideas while providing a good platform for research. I'm for sure trying that potato salad. Cheers!
Trout fishing in a stream sure takes me back to my childhood! We always brought them to Grandma ans she would pan fry them for us. Good times. Thanks for bringing us along.
For me it was hearsay. I was told growing up that newly released hatchery trout meat was gummy because of the pellets they were feed. So we never fished where they were released. But those you cooked looked nice and flaky. Interesting take on potato salad. Beautiful meal!
In my county fish farming is a huge industry employing 1000's of people and subsidiary businesses. My neighbor and good friend is an ichthyologist working for a fish feed producer here. He takes his work very seriously and has a great passion for maintaining fish health. The Atlantic salmon we produce is virtually indistinguishable from the wild caught, which, BTW, we are no longer allowed to harvest due to declining stocks. So obviously, I'm also a fan of farm raised fish. We are also leading the way in farm raised scallops and sea weeds and kelps. On a different note do you have a fish cake (crab cake) video out?
I do! A little ways back but it’s a fish cake with a fried egg on it. Thank you for the thoughtful comment! We will need farmed fish in the future if not now I believe
Aloha Will. I used to be vehemently against seafood farming for a multitude of reasons, and still am. Unfortunately, it’s become a necessary evil. Mother Nature cannot keep up with human consumption. I, personally will not buy farm raised seafood, but you’re right, a trout pond or a place stacked with bluegill/crappie is a great way to get kids fishing!
I love these recipes! Couple questions for you Will, How long did you roast the taters and do you think I could cook rainbow trout like this? My husband and I always look forward to your videos and safe travels !
Well, i noticed with the trout i CCC, the meat is more orange, like a salmon. yours is not as much... i wonder what the taste is like..... try large mouth bass. i bet you can do a real good meal with 1. and yes, i bet you can do a Pickerel too... cya on the next 1
You should give the tiny little rapalas a try. I seem to do better on them vs any other traditional trout lure. Oddly enough the rainbow trout pattern is a solid producer
@@CookingWithClams thanks for the reply! Great video as always. Pretty colors on those fish compared to the stockers we get in the streams here in Pa and Jersey
Mayo is wonderful, but olive oil and vinegar dressed potato salad (when the potatoes are still hot from the oven or pot) is also very good. If you add a bit of good dried oregano to your other herbs, you’d have classic Greek potato salad
the way you are holding the fish at 7:20 , just stick you thumb in the cavity and with some force push down and forward up towards the head to clean out that "spine blood" ( under running water helps wash it out) A mix of flour and cornmeal fried in peanut oil with S&P and a squirt of lemon is all you need if you want a traditional fired trout. So good I'd never "fancy it up". Sometimes less is more. And the tail "chips" are killer! Wild trouts or holdovers that have been in a stream are night and day compared to any stocker.
I caught a fish when I was 5 at Knotts Berry Farm when I was 5. Been fishing 6 decades. Also went to Sea World and it made such an impact, I became a diver, even US Navy Deep Sea. Those memories can last a lifetime.
Good show. I have zero problems with farmed fish or hatchery raised and released fish. I fished North Carolina trout streams while in middle school. I slayed thousands of trout ! I’d fish just about every day they were open and a bunch of days when I couldn’t keep any out of season. The flavor of hatchery raised fish that had recently been released wasn’t even close to wild fish or fish that had been in the wild for a year. I became super selective about what I kept and ate. It was all good fun catching all of them and unless you made a concerted effort you would likely never catch a wild keeper to compare with fresh from the hatchery fish.

It's so good! Little different than boiling the potatoes
as long as the fsrm is like that I'm all for it. Boy you love that camp stove, great show Will stay safe.
I hate cooking on electric, it’s the worst
Forgive me if I sound wrong here, but I think you should have your own restaurant. Everything you cook looks absolutely amazing. God bless my brother, keep doing what you do. 🙏
He owns a restaurant in NY....
I do! That’s why I’m up in NY so often

He (clams) is the most humble of restaurateurs. Been with him since he started this channel…..
I don't think there's anything wrong with farm raised fish.

Appreciate it! I know it’s not key west and not epic fishing but I still had a blast and a great meal!
Once again, very professional and always with a smile...
I enjoy farmed catfish...
TNX 4 VID LOL
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you

I think a lot of people don’t realize how much hatchery gosh are out there
Damn dude. I just got home from work and ate a cold turkey and cheese wrap. Have some empathy for us. Looks incredible!
Haha I just had cold eggplant Parm
Thanks again for the video man. Might have to use your potato salad recipe. As im currently fishing in the outer banks!!!
You won’t regret it

People are so judge mental in fish farming but will by any old chicken with no thought at all
That looks great! I love trout. Aside from those bluefin tuna "farms" (traps) in Asia, I have no issues with farmed fish.
All depends on the farm. There are great ones out there
I thoughly enjoy your channel. This recipe looks very good. I enjoy farmed fish from the markets.

As long as the farm is abiding by good practices I don’t see a problem
I have been catching / eating stocked trout for 40 years , all good.
I will be making that potato salad ,it looked really good
Excellent!
I enjoyed this catch and cook really well...did I miss it as I don't recall you scaling the fish. Were the tails crispy enough to eat, as they weren't cooked a long time?
Didn’t scale, don’t need to with trout this small. No the tails didn’t get to that potato chip level

Much like poultry cattle and anything else there are pretty terrible farms out there. And yes shrimp from overseas is terrible

That is awesome!
Will I like to catch and eat trout wild or farm raised i really like catching trout in white water rapids that's fun liked 👍 your video 😊
Thanks Gary!
Found this recipe a week to late! Looks like I may have to go back out trout fishing again soon.
Please do!
I loved this place as a kid and still enjoy it as an adult lol. My go to trout candy was always wax worms from the pet store.
That’s what I ended up using haha
You could cook for me anyday. Planted or farmed trout are great when the have year overed in the body of water that can support them.
Exactly!
I haven’t had trout in forever and I have a cousin that owns a trout farm about 30 minutes from. Shame on me
What?? Get over there haha
Trout fishing in a stream sure takes me back to my childhood! We always brought them to Grandma ans she would pan fry them for us. Good times. Thanks for bringing us along.
I think trout are a huge part of many childhood memories including mine

These are on a natural diet since day one so I think that helps
@@CookingWithClams Do you mean the day of release like you said in the video or day 1 in the hatchery?
Love learning from your cooking skills
Thank you so much

Out of curiosity how do you see it differently from farm raised chicken?
@@CookingWithClams Aloha. You can replenish chickens with a rooster.
Great video Will. Do you still go down to Key West at all?
Headed there this week
That potatoe salad though , oh man , looks so good all of it
So good
I love these recipes! Couple questions for you Will, How long did you roast the taters and do you think I could cook rainbow trout like this? My husband and I always look forward to your videos and safe travels !
Until they were soft, maybe 30/40 mins? And yes any trout would work!
Thanks so much!
Like the little kids ponds at the boat shows
Exactly
Seriously fishing in a barrel
A more interactive fish market

Thank you!
I think that if the hatchery does what you explained this hatchery does. I don’t think you can ask for anything better!
Pretty natural.

I don’t like all the antibiotics and hormones. But natural is awesome
its the farm raised shrimp that worry me
Agreed

Good stuff Will. Try olive oil and a splash of red wine vinegar instead of mayo in the potato salad.
