this video is so freakin cool. I cant believe I didnt know about this...Man just imagine if this would have took off? we would still be watching actual VIDEO today...boggles my mind.
The HM-DH5U, which is a very similar model is one of a few of the D-Theater players with HDMI output. To be honest, because it's only 1080i there wouldn't be a difference anyway between HDMI and component, but it boggles my mind that there are VHS players with HDMI outputs - and HDMI upconverting for regular VHS tapes!
@Celiecinema1 DVHS player's use the same physical cassette format and recording mechanism as S-VHS (but need higher quality and more expensive tapes), and is capable of recording and displaying both standard definition and high definition content. The answer is 'both', you can use the more expensive DVHS tapes which are more durable, or you can use the cheaper SVHS tapes for recording.
could you help me my kid thought it would be funny to record a few seconds on a DVHS movie tape like yours (put tape on the protector) it was just for a two seconds but is now the tape unsuable? we just get "calibrating" on our dh3000
These units produce 1080i through the components in back. My HM-DH40000 I had hooked through a computer via the back port firewire and the picture output I found was surprisingly ugly and pasty! Firewire seemed to only by digital enhancer thus woefully degrading vhs resolutions. IMO Anyways,DVHS format is very sensitive to tape wear.. this glitch is probably why they didn't stay around longer than they did.
No timecode, most decks only record the stream from the digital ATSC signal like a hard-disk but linear from a digital receiver with firewire, they couldn't use DV or record analog on digital tape. The later JVC decks included HD movies with Dtheater and had mpeg2 encoders for recording from analog or DV tape. The machines with out the i-link standard can only talk to XP computers. None of the machines can play analog tape into the PC.
the D-VHS was only for a small Freaky market - never see this System like VHS or the later S-VHS on the Austrian (Europe) market! Also no D-VHS are in the Videostore available here. No D-VHS Tapes are on the Market here during this time the VCD and teh VCD2 will be on the Market then came the DVD in the mid of teh 90's Tapes since this time death. Today 2015 i must thinkk about a Videosource for future use and if i buy a BD with a 3D functionlaity i'm not sure is this the future? For example with my HD-Satellitebox i can also recorde Films in a very high Quality.
Without i-link it can handle up to 28.2Mb/s, with ilink on it can only do 19Mb/s as the machine likes to insert a lower quality version of the video for rewind and FF when you use the built in encoders.
I own one of these players . I Just fixed it , it was giving me problems . Its a simple fix the ground wire one the video head will come lose after time to cause you problems or digital like blocks in the picture like a dirty head its not lose wire , the black one use a screwdriver and tighten it up
It doesn't work that way, a Blu-ray or HD DVD player can't play a tape and vice versa. If you want to play a particular video/audio format with great results, you go with a solid player that's built for that format and newer "better" formats don't hurt the value of quality legacy format players.
Im just saying its really not that great of a collectable format. Something like Laserdisc or beta max are still more noval for collecting. Theres only like 70 movies on dtheater
What? The 2003 D-VHS Of Cape Fear? Cool D-VHS Tape

I wonder how many returns occurred over people not realizing they spent like $30 on a tape they couldn't watch without a special machine?

An excellent innovations that came 10 years too late... :(
cool - thanks foro posting.
is it possbile to record hd on a standard video tape? svhs and does it have a ATSC tuner. i get mixed answers...
How does standart VHS looks in hdmi out on that machine?
@Celiecinema1 There's not enough bandwidth to do that. Digital audio is possible, however. See the PCM1610 processor from Sony.
What were the trailers on this cassette, if any? And was there a warning screen anywhere between the D-Theater and Universal logos?
Wow, i never would have thought, why doesnt tdk make these instead of the sd 240minute ones?
I have a similar issue with one of the analog components, it keeps going black and white one analog signals because a silver box is loose.
Good day. By what cable it is connected to tv? Thanks

Love the video do you know if these will play normal PAL VHS tapes? or are they only NTSC compatible?
so this is like the tapes in dv cams?
can you do update on this player
wow hd vhs tapes can you back them up to pc in 1080i?
i have hear that you can change the sound from english to , german japanese or something else when its on the tape, can i activate subitles ?
Is there still a place that sells players and D-VHS tapes
Could a D-VHS player be used to digitize one's VHS, S-VHS, W-VHS or other formats?
how long can you record in hd

@Celiecinema1 I've heard they don't.
What would happen if you insert a D-VHS tape into an analogue VHS player?

Component to hdmi converter.
Супер чёткость 1080i👍
Only ebay - Production of DVHS players stopped about 9 years ago :(

@SebiStudios2 No Blu-ray has a higher bit rate. (DVHS) DTheater = 28.2 Mbps, Blu-ray is 54 Mbps .
Here's my setup:
DVHS player - Component cable - AV receiver (Onkyo 708) - Samsung TV (UE46D6530)
touché..
It wad Date VHS not Digital, I have always wanted one :( shame they are are pig to get in the UK and can't record in HD here!
