    Looks amazing! Still rocking the AG-1980 you recommended though it wouldn't hurt to have a backup of this caliber handy!

    Great video Dave! Now I understand why that VCR is so important. Because it definitely does the job effectively. This is very very cool to see. That explains the VHS stream you had this past week

    I remember buying CDs in the 80s and there would be a little card inside the case explaining what CDs are and how you should avoid scratching it and only touch it on the sides and make sure it’s not upside down etc etc.

    Awesome Dave. I have several VCRs I need to post some of them on Discord sometime. One is really cool from the early 80s😎

    I had no idea HD VCR or HD VHS tapes were things that even existed.
    Turning the VCR on just made me realize I can't remember if a Power button on the VCR was a thing, back in the day. They must've been, right? I remember we had two VCRs over the course of my childhood, but I just recall them always being on. I know for a fact we had so many tapes that could've provided plenty of content for channel, but they've long since been thrown out.

    Loved this video man! You've inspired me to start hunting around at thrift stores for VHS tapes and VCRs. I just found my first VHS tape with a recording at the Goodwill up here in The Woodlands, I'm hooked haha! Cheers!

    I'm jealous lol. Back in the day, my local Frys Electronics store sold this vcr & I should have bought one. I have several JVC SVHS vcrs with TBC but I feel this Mitsubishi might be superior in quality.

    Cool find! I'm not terribly familiar with the D-VHS format, but I always thought D-VHS VCRs only played D-VHS tapes and not regular VHS tapes.
    The VCR I use is a 2005 Insignia IS-DVD100121 VCR/DVD recorder dual unit. I bought it at an estate sale in October and it's a pretty good quality unit. I had the same, if not a similar, model once before, and that also was a good machine. After that one broke down, I had a Magnavox ZV427MG9 for quite some time, which was not nearly as good, so I'm glad I was finally able to get my hands on better quality equipment.
    One thing I like about the Insignia is that when connected to an HDTV, the picture will not completely go out when either rewinding or fast-forwarding or during periods of static (i.e. when the tape goes blank and/or reverts to an older recording) as other VCRs do with HDTVs.

    I have an HDMI VCR/DVD Combo that I found at a Goodwill, had no clue they even made such a thing . Come to find out they made several different one's from different companies in the late 2000's .my model is SANYO NO. FWZV475F . This is not a Combo unit that's just HDMI for the DVD side , oh no boy's and girl's this an HDMI for the VCR as well and it's very impressive.

  • @CommodoreFan64
    @CommodoreFan64 Год назад +2

    I would love to have one of these, but at the price they go for, and the TV needed to get the very best out of it with such a limited D-VHS selection, yeah I'm good with my 1 Emerson, and 2 Sanyo VHS/DVD combo units from the mid 00's 😅

    My Brother in law bought a new one back in the day and they give him the expensive portable one by mistake. He had money and buying one was nothing to him. My point is that kind of good luck never happens to the poor.

    Pretty cool find in that condition. Let us know if you are able to get the Firewire ports to connect to anything. I believe they were designed to connect ONLY to specific devices. They didn't want people making digital copies back then so they limited its function dramatically.

    Try to use a 2nd cheaper VCR for rewinding to save the motor on this Gem for as long as you can. I have a couple old cheaper units I use just for rewinding/general playback.

    Didn’t HD VCR try to compete with DVD’s when those came out? Could be wrong….
    Also was that a Benchmade Infidel? Sweet bro!

    • @CommodoreFan64
      @CommodoreFan64 Год назад

      Yes, it was higher quality upto to 1080i on a supported TV with the firewire connection, but it was vastly more costly, and had a lot less support in a time when CRT TV's where still very common upto, and even after the 08 ATSC 1.0 switch over.

    What a fantastic find! Thanks for sharing, quick question @Dave, how does this transmit the HD signal to a HDTV!? it has no component ( red , green, blue ) cable connection ! It only has composite . ( Of course it won’t have HDMI, since that wasn’t around at the time, I think 🤔?)
