    Hi Andy, the HW40 is a single stroke pneumatic (like the old Webley Nemesis) and not a springer as you stated. Closing is the compression stroke.

    Hi Andy: Well, while the HW40 is certainly a nice pistol and comes in well below it's counterpart price wise, you really need to take a look at the
    Chinese manufactured offering from Beeman, the P-17. I think you'll be pleasantly amazed at the guns durability, shootability, accuracy and most of all it's price... Not £300 , not £140 but a very modest £22 and you'll be hard pressed to tell the difference between the HW40 and the P17. So maybe you'll want to add a forth pistol to that review if you really want the whole picture.
    Cheers from across the pond.

    Stoeger has a single stroke pneumatic air pistol called the XP4 that looks similar to the HW40, but based on it's price, it probably falls somewhere between the Beeman p17 & HW40 in terms of build quality.
    I hope you get your hands on that Stoeger XP4 for review so we can find out if it is a viable and more affordable option for a single stroke pneumatic air pistol.

    I have an early model of the HW 40 PCA without any fiberoptics installed which makes it a bit uneasy to shoot but I actually only shoot it with a scope so this is no issue. It's ideal for plinkering and target shooting on the 10m range.

    • @kanehood3478
      @kanehood3478 4 года назад +1

      John Ryder i also have it without optic sights, a little note some competitions will not allow the fibre optic sites “true glow” as its called

    • @ytucharliesierra
      @ytucharliesierra 4 года назад +1

      @@kanehood3478 Good to know indeed. I don't expect to take it to competitions any time soon but it's nice to think that in case one does, you could wreak havoc among the competitors with a low budget gear. Hahaha! After all, that thing is so amazingly accurate! I have actually extended my range to 15m now and recently put 8 pellets in a group of 1,3cm. Rested and with a scope though, but I like it. I used the cheapest ammo H&N Excite Econ II and it all works like a charm.

    • @kanehood3478
      @kanehood3478 4 года назад +1

      Personally 15 years ago i did take mine to competitions (in local club), I never came first but it sure did make a few people wonder why they had spent so much money on a competition grade gun, the highest I placed was 2nd hitting 92 out of 100 2p sized targets at 20m not a bad day at the range, dont get me wrong no good for pest control, but good if you want a good bang for buck, pardon the pun, stay safe and happy shooting

    • @ytucharliesierra
      @ytucharliesierra 4 года назад

      @@kanehood3478 Considering that the shape of the HW 40s sights cannot necessarily be called filigrane that is hands down a very respectable result indeed. I assume the use of 0,52 gram pellets is more prudent for 20m than my 0,48 g ones mentioned above?
      I heartily agree with the "bang for buck." Lol
      Message received but no worries. If pest control was actually required I would certainly reach for something more adequate. 😉I am lucky not to have pests anyway but pest control with i.e. airguns is prohibited here in Germany anyway. 🤓
      I have two blank guns from HW and just like the HW 40, in terms of the high quality of build and performance I honestly find them almost underpriced. So indeed, in all possible categories, the HW 40 is very satisfying to handle and to shoot, may it be range style or sniper style rested and with a scope.

    I bought a Beeman P17 2004e "deluxe air pistol" from Walmart when I was in the USA for 28 dollars and its almost the same thing, just a licensed copy made in China. The parts are interchangeable. The only thing bad about these guns is that it's easy to move the rear sight when cocking. (you can add loctite) and you can sometimes pinch the skin of your hand when it snaps shut. But a very satisfying pistol to shoot.

    Get about 400+ using HN field target trophey, the best single stroke pnematic pistol for the money and the trigger is amazing from factory, not a HW75 or a Fas 6004 but at that price wow, almost forgot the trick to cocking it is not to press to hard a steady regular pressure, i usually use my thumb and one finger at the end of the fake slide

    • @ytucharliesierra
      @ytucharliesierra 4 года назад

      Me too. Thumb and three fingers on the slanted surface on either side of the fake slide, just before the rear sight. At the same time I rest the bottom of the grip in my lap and raise the elbow of the pumping hand. This allows for long sessions.

    AAR is a bad influence on me! I won an auction for a Beeman P17 and a few days later I found this video and after watching it I went looking for a Weihrauch Hw40 and found one on eBay and I had to have it. In a span of 72 hours I spent $39.99 for the Beeman P17 and $150.00 for the Weihrauch Hw40, I'm sure I'll like them both. Mickymillersson ; thank you for your kind comments, and with regard to the “Letter H” you are correct of course, as this was the correct pronunciation dating back to French medieval times I believe, the Irish do sound the H though, along with most of the BBC and they have legitimated this recently. I take comfort in the fact that I have Irish ancestors (way Back) and despite being old (nearly Medieval, my kids would claim) I like to think my use of the H puts me in the more youthful category. Who knows I may drop my ‘H’ and some point in the future and hear my mother turn in her grave.😉👍. Thanks for the comments, keep them coming. Andy.

      More linguistics than guns! Nottingham and Derby, despite being the Midlands,have an accent more akin to the north nearby Leicester on the other hand has an accent rather similar to Birmingham.H dropping is not practiced by the Irish, Scottish, Geordies(proper Geordies not any kind of north easterners where they do drop H's).

    One thing I don't understand is the metal trigger on the cheaper hw40 while the hw45 is plastic. The trigger still feels great so maybe it's something to do with the tolerances of the materials and wear over time. I know hw45 is very well made and needs little servicing other than a new breach seal now and again.

    Identical to the beeman p3 or p17 in looks, but the beemans are cheaper, are we paying extra just for the weirauch branding or are there any noticable differences? I must admit i like the extra power for versatality so the webley alecto was my choice, its also a pneumatic but with multi instead of one stroke. Obviously more expensive but has 3 power levels, one stroke up to a maximum of 3 at 5.8ftlbs, , suitable for any close range pest control (10 metres) as long as you are confident with your shot placement for humane dispatch, otherwise do not bother. I went with the. 177 for accuracy and penetration, powerful and accurate. Also find the correct ammo as it makes alot of difference. I like the thunderbolts and rws superpoints. I have an hatsan supercharger as well but thats is a springer but likes the rws superpoints as well, but really enjoys the hypermax. Different guns like different ammo which is something you should bare in mind. Sample packs are available on ebay until you find your own preference. All the best from lancashire U.K

You can even get an add-on stock / silencer , and in my opinion with those options attached ok for short range pest control .. even now at 5.5 ftlb .. Mrs AAA would LOVE IT ..and I'm sure for a little " favour " ( wink wink ) you could let her use your air tank too fill it up ...

    I can open it as much as i want, when i cocked it, it simply vents the air out. Maybe it is impossible to do it with the savety engaged (i don't have it with me to confirm that) but i have opened mine after cocking it countless times. It works with compressed air, so there is no problem dry fireing it. You can also just cock the hammer by opening it about half way (you would hear a click) to train your trigger finger. Much of your Info was wrong, but your grouping was good(ish).

      @@swinka I have owned a beeman it fell apart inside and the trigger spring kept on slipping off pos but it was cheap my hw 40 is 10 years old now and never missed a beat and my 75 isn't the same inside its got some deference in quality I. E the trigger mech is highly polished and better than a good chunk of guns full stop it actually reminds me of my CD trigger a little bit on my tx200 basically you get what you pay for I don't see many beemans at the ten meter sessions at my club but there's a lot of baikails and weirauch stuff but the best budget gun is the gamo compact that things way more gun than its price warrents its like a 500pound pistol for 195 it's a steal the grips are walnut and made well and accuracy of the beeman is nowhere the same as any weirauch especially in competition with friends ect at my club been at this a while it's not even a debate sorry... The beeman good for garden practice or if a non shooting friend wants a go

    You owed your viewers a proper accuracy test. I have one of these and it is tack driving. Half inch group at 10 yards. Go get one.

    The Beeman(p17) version of this gun is way cheaper and probably just as accurate.
    With the Beeman version mounted with a red dot. At rest, I can get 1.5" groups out to 20 yards. Am sure the Hw40 have much better polymer and trigger assembly materials.
