You are sooo fortunate to have big box stores that actually have good inventory! I live in Florida only 2 to 3 hours where they grow all these things down south and area where they grow them, but in our county, Indian River county, Florida or big box stores have the worst variety of plants ever!!
No matter how much you beg them to get some in they don’t listen and they always look terrible a few that they do have !

Two days ago I saw a cute succulent at the nursery. It was so cute, in a 2" pot, and was only $3.99. I'm a sucker for 'baby' plants. I didn't recognize the name but I Googled it. Apparently, an Anacampseros rufescens Sunrise is very rare. It sure does have pretty colors. I also bought a Christmas Cactus even though it doesn't look like the happiest plant. And it's dropping leaves at an alarming rate. I'm hoping she lives. Her soil was rock hard. But I still need more plant therapy. Glad I found you.

Hi Ashley, thanks so much for your plant shopping videos. Only problem is that it gives me the bug lol. Not really, I do that on my own. You probably know this already, but I wanted to mention that Google has a plant Identification built into the app. I am so impressed by it. You go to the main page, there is a microphone and a camera. Take a picture of the plant and it comes up with a few pictures. Most of the time it is very accurate, it gives some care instructions, and also some ideas about where to buy it. I find it way more accurate than the apps at the app store ( and it’s free 😮)

I found a good size euphorbia ghost cactus at Home Depot (in Kansas) for $20 in a gray terra cotta pot. The tag on the plant says Altman Reserve I was happy to find one before Halloween. 🎃 👻

I would have had a hard time passing up the Aglaonema that you touched. That was a really pretty one. I was in Home Depot about six weeks ago and saw several Hoya Gracilis (in googling it, I found that the name has changed to 'Memoria'), and a hoya that looked just like Krimson Princess, but Proven Winners had it labeled as 'Green Light.' I left that day without buying them. Then I stewed about it for a couple of days and went back and bought them. I bought two 'Gracilis/Memoria' (to pot together for a fuller pot), and a 'Green Light' (despite the fact that I have THREE Krimson Princesses). I repotted them right away, getting rid of their original soil because I had seen fungus gnats at HD and didn't want to bring those in. What I didn't know when I potted them, though, was that my potting soil was INFESTED with fungus gnats. (It was a different brand than what I usually use.) They must have been in egg or larvae form, because I didn't notice them when I was planting, but a few days later, I was seeing them on the plants and in my house. When I checked inside the potting soil bag a week or so later, it was literally crawling (and flying) with gnats! I'm so mad! So, not the 'Gracilis/Memoria' or 'Green Light's' faults . . . but it sure is frustrating.

Great finds!! I think Proven Winners is killing it this year. My recent HD finds are all from this brand. I found a tortum and atabapoense about a month ago then found two kinds of hoya lacunosa about two weeks ago. Can't wait to see other rare plants come to market!

I just started my houseplant journey and have probably close to 50 or more!! Just got a tiny Florida beauty for 15 and my first monstera albo for 30, I know the seller and that’s why I got the deal but still new, the Florida beauty lost her white leaf but has new growth any suggestions on lights? And how do you know depending on the wattage of the lights how far to keep them away from the plants?
Hey Ashley. I moved from Lynchburg, VA to Greensboro, NC, and on a return trip yesterday, I stopped at a Lowe's in Danville, VA, and purchased 2 Philodendron Sumner Glory for $11 each both in 4" pots. Unfortunately, the Hoyas Adrifts that brought from Home Depot died quickly.

I saw variegated wayetii (or kentiana if you prefer) at Lowe's for $20 in a really nice pot. I was shocked. That "adrift" hoya looks like Rosita or Wayetii to me. I think they just named it Adrift to make it sound cool.

I can't remember if Lowes or Home depot but there is a fertilizer with rooting hormones for root growth not leaf. You use it once a month bonide root and grow 4 10 3.

I found a variegated Money Tree in one of those small colored pots from LiveTrends at my Lowe’s.
Well I have to brag I got at Walmart 2 pink princesses for $5 each a silver streak pothos in great shape fg or $4.00. Then went to Home Depot and had to pay regular price for Monstera Cobra for under $20 so ladies don't overlook Walmart. They are on clearence in Missouri
HEB has had Florida Beauties here in Texas! I haven’t found one yet though, but I have seen photos!

Ralph’s has carried rare ones too found philodendron white wizard for $9 once. I feel like the best are out in OC. Found Thai Constellations at a Walmart over there. ☺️

Established root system? I found the $6 Hoya Krimson Princess which I didn’t have in my collection yet and bought 2 to put together and have a nice sized Hoya. I have not seen the Adrift. Almost looked like a Hoya Rosita.

I fertilize during winter months as well but I dilute and water year round since houseplants are indoors. (water weakly, weekly) I haven’t been to my big box shops here lately…I might have to go check them out. I did go to Walmart last week….nothing spectacular. My daughter found a Florida beauty at her grocery store and bought it for me as a bday gift. They flew off the shelf! They also had variegated domesticums but we went back the next day and those were gone too. Oh well. At least I got the Florida beauty to go either way my Florida ghost. That Hoya looked like Hoya Rosita…🤔

I’ve had a prayer plant for a year and no new plants for months and I think I found some mealy bugs in the prayer plant so I treated it and will keep watch. Never had mealies yet. Every other pest yes.

Your big box shops are soo much better than ours in Indiana. Looove the stingray!! I use granules also and I'm having to do so with every watering right now. When do you add fertilizer, and can you add in the same water as the granules?

Flordia Beauty Variegated are showing up at HEBs in Texas for around $45. Hard to get the super Var ones unless ur there when the truck is but I got a lower Var one. Hoping it gets better. It's an adult plant, too. So keep checking! They also had Strawberry Shakes, Var Domesticum, Billies, etc.

I wish I could keep a plant alive but everyone I buy dies my neighbor has a Christmas cactus I think that’s what it is and they are beautiful the flowers on it I have some hens and chicks outside in planters and they keep growing and I would love to plant some flowers for hummingbirds I just LOVE setting outside and watch the little beauties I heard that they liked Honeysuckle bushels but one of them died I finally fought a butterfly bush and it’s just beautiful if you could recommend something I live in Georgia don’t know what would grow here🪴🦋🌼🌹🪸🥀

Depending on the state, PW seems to supply different kinds of hoyas for their littles line. Here in NJ, we’ve been getting Hoya burtoniae variegata.
Hoya Adrift is actually Hoya Rosita. Don’t you just love PW renaming plants to confuse people. 🙄
