Needs a quick shifter as an option with that much power. Hard to keep the tire down in first and second while focusing on shifting and holding on for dear life.
Ryan, I heard you say your from WA STATE? So am I! I'm watching this video because I'm looking to buy a brand new 2022 Pan America with 48 test ride miles for $16k, since it's been at the dealer for 2 years unsold. Do you think it's worth it? Where would you ride it in WA? I live near Mt Baker. Any off-road parks to take this bike and have fun, if I did buy it? Your thoughts please! Would greatly appreciate any insights. Thank you, FREEDOMGUNNER
GREAT video man, killer review. You’re definitely the only person I’ve heard of that washed a demo bike before returning it, lol Awesome meeting and hangin w y’all in Sturgis! See y’all soon in WA! 🤘🏼
Thanks much brother. Glad we could hang out and get to know each other. And ride bikes together in the Black Hills! Heck yah, you know how to get a hold of us when you come to Washington State.
I have owned one now for three months, I road my Low Rider S to Sturgis this year from New Mexico but wished all 1800 miles I was on the Dirt Glide for the experience . I see it a a dirt bike for grown ups, wont replace my Ultra as the go to bike for cross county trips or my Low Rider S as the around town with the boys bike, but its the grab my 31 year old son and lets go motorcycle camping in the Rocky Mountain's bike! Great Review!!!!
The only thing I don't like about the Pan America is that I don't have one. That may be rectified fairly soon. That speed control button that you addressed is like the gas peddle on your car. Push it forward and you go faster. bring it backwards and your slow down. I think they got it right on that little detail. Keep up the great work. I'm 77 and cut my teeth on the dirt and enduro bikes of the late 60's and 70's. Between me and my kids and wife we have had about 25 motorcycles in the family since I was in High school (Graduated in `62) . My last two bikes were a 2001 Road King and finally a 2006 Sportster 1200 Roadster that I sold in 2012. I still got the itch and am in great health. The last all dirt bike was a `78 Yamaha TT500. Not street legal.

Bought one, live in Spain. I have a triumph cruiser also. The Pan America is a very very special bike. There's just something that makes it a damned good bike to ride. It puts a massive smile on my face every time I ride it. I call it my marmite bike. You either love it or hate it. I love marmite, as I do this quality machine. Congratulations to Harley Davidson.
Wow, great video again Ryan! And what a speedy production, filming, editing, publishing. Very impressive. Btw, the Pan is a beautiful machine. Thnx from Holland!
You definitely weren’t lying about the “butt buffer pad”. I bought it before I rode to Sturgis this year from Kentucky, and it saved my world! Great video and review on this bike!

I have the 2021. I got it custom painted metallic purple. In storage right now no pics. But I love my dirt glide. I got the stage one upgrade with k&n cold intake and two brothers exhaust. Runs like a dream. I’m so happy I bought this machine. Awesome bike.
People will call me crazy but I just traded my CVO Road Glide Limited for a 2023 Special Pan America and got all the luggage Screaming Eagle exhaust running lights and skid plate radiator guard new intake filter. Many other add ons and I know I made the correct decision for my style of riding. CVO Limited is an absolute luxury bike but this PA is so cool.
The name “Panamerica” is so unique & original & encompasses the explorer attitude of going westward, north or down south to the far reaches of the American continents. Truly an all American name. I think a 6 gallon tank would have been better. Also, why not offer a shaft drive option? Love the tubeless tires because less maintenance & easier to fix a flat on the fly. My only pet peeve is the overkill on the electronics. Something is bound to short circuit or break & the only way to fix it is to run to the dealer. The manual windshield is not a big deal so long as it works. Simplicity is best. I am a short rider so I commend Harley for always thinking about the smurf crew & accommodating us. Overall, great first generation of adventure touring model. Keep up the good work & keep evolving! Thank you for the video LAB!
Its fun to see where I grew up underneath the Sturgis sign on the hill in your video! Looking forward to getting one of these in the spring! Great video! I live right down the road from Knife Blade where you rolled up at 17:40 :)
Had the opportunity to test ride one here in Saskatchewan while my streetglide was getting some abs repairs. I was very impressed and not gonna lie.... My heart was pumping, remembering and bringing back memories of a younger me on a trailbike! Well done Harley!
I bought one about 2 weeks before I left for Sturgis. It was still on my first thousand miles, before I got the 1K service or I might have taken it. The guy who has ridden to Sturgis with me for the last two years and I believe we may just take the adventure bikes next year to Sturgis.
when I fell on my left side on pan america. The mirror didn't break it moved inwards, The plastic hand guards were pretty useless cause my clutch handle lever to fold and the dial selector popped off. The usual minor scuffs on the engine guard.
Great video. You nailed it on the head when you said ride by a gravel road and wonder whats down there. Lol. I’ve experienced that many times on my 2018 fatboy 114. 60000km 37599 miles i rode that fatty. Ive toured 8 states and most of western Canada on that cruiser. Fall of 2022 I rocked my ride and bought a 2022 Pan America Special. Wow. May 2023 I’m riding my Pan to Utah and spending two weeks touring, moto camping. Love this bike. It was an adjustment. 5000 to 9000 RPM. She comes alive for sure. I agree with the cruise button seems backwards to me too. Signal lights were strange as well. Thanks for the review very interesting.
Did you make it to Utah? My week there in 1994 was one of my best rides, but i always wondered what those dirt roads led to. Finally made it back on a KTM500 25yrs later and found out whats really going on down those roads!
Harley is definitely on the right track with this bike. The tech and the engine are awesome.I find that it is more comfortable on the highway, than any road bike i have had. It does need more braking power. But al in all this is my most favorite bike ever.
I got one a week ago. So far great bike still learning everything. Hopefully get my bags and other accessories soon. Tired of just having a backpack...lol. but unfortunately no one knows when they will be in stock. I am in NC and want to go to Sturgis next year and maybe Daytona this year if covid doesn't cancel it
As an adaptive (disabled) rider, would love to test ride the Pan America... especially with the adaptive ride height. Excited about the direction of the new Revolution Max models and it's possibilities. But I want to talk about this video. You knocked it out of the park Ryan. Out-[redacted]ing-standing! This is by far & away the best and most complete review of the Dirt Glide. Appreciate the level of detail, completeness, and functions not covered by other reviews. Also great to see you guys hanging out with the other moto channel creators.
Luis, thank you so much fro your kind words. They are more appreciated than you know. Your appreciation and support is what keeps us going. I've never heard it referred to as a Dirt Glide. I love it!
Great review, Ryan. Beautiful video as usual. Admittedly, I was leery as hell of what this bike would be when it finally became reality. And even though I have never ridden one (I have looked over a few at the dealer), the more I see them and hear about them the more my apprehensions fade. The MOCO may have hit one out of the park with this bike, only time and miles will tell. I'm hopeful that future models will become even more tuned in and incorporate some of the things the customer will demand, even though Harley has a long track record of ignoring what we want only giving us what they want us to have. And, it's GOT to be more popular than the Livewire... right? NOTE TO THE MOCO: Pay attention to your customers!
They got it so close for me... I'm a sport touring rider but I like the seating position and feel of an adventure tourer. I don't go off road and have zero intention of ever going off road so I don't need that. But my absolute favorite feature on my Kawasaki Versys 1000 is the quick shifter. Period... it's a game changer... and yet. HOW could HD forget about this awesome feature? Make it more of a touring bike with a quick shifter and INCLUDE the hard bags and I may go by a dealership and put money down... Otherwise I'll be still in the Kawasaki camp.

Enjoyed your Pan Am review as I knew it was coming. You were riding it right in my back yard, I've been riding the Black Hills for 36 yrs and have owned all the large adventure bikes. My current ride is a Triumph Scrambler 1200 XE which I think is the best I've owned. I first rode the Pan Am at Black Hills HD only around the parking lot and then at the ADV Rally this year at the Buffalo Chip. The Motor Co. would only let me ride it on pavement and on a off road course at the Chip.I found the Pan AM to be a very impressive bike and really liked the adaptive ride height option. I also took Jersey's Ride Like A Pro Police course at the Buffalo Chip in June of this year on my Scrambler.

I want one, but streeted out. I need the riding position, but won't buy a BMW. Take that exhaust and bring it straight back. Put some large leather or mil grade nylon bags over the rear seat. Maybe even floor boards and touring shifters. I'm glad to see them moving forward and carving out a spot in a different market.

Well having viewed many great videos on the PAS here in the UK before buying mine I feel qualified to say that yours must be the best of them. Whether you ride off road or on road you cover it all. A gravel car park is about as far as I will ride off road though. You ask for opinions so here is mine after three weeks of ownership. Cons - I don't like where the indicator switch is placed as I often find myself tooting the horn , where the battery is fitted as its awkward to get at and possibly damaged , the foot pegs , as you say could be lower, the engine is too buzzy for me ( more on that later ) the bike is too fast ( have I really just written that ) at low speeds it just wants to go Pros - Its a far better looking bike than it has been given credit for , the engine is comparatively low maintenance , its very comfortable its comparatively light , the gearbox feels smooth and it handles bends wonderfully. All in all a great bike given its Harleys first attempt at the Adventure Bike market. But ... and the but is I traded in a 1200GS for this bike and the PAS is a far better bike than the GS in so many ways but I am so missing the low down torque of the GS. I found the GS so much easier to keep within the speed limits over here than I do the PAS. Yes I can change down a gear but whatever gear it is in it just wants to go. I compare it to a thorough bred race horse to a normal one. To sum this section up I am just a big fan of the Boxer engine and I think I am suffering from withdrawal symptoms still. With regards to your question about whether Harley riders will ever accept te PA I personally don't think that they will. I can remember riding my unit construction 1969 Triumph to my local Bikers Cafe back in the day and being told by owners of pre unit construction Triumphs that it wasn't a real Triumph. And Harley riders are already saying the same to me when I roll in on my PAS. Thankfully I am like you when say two wheels are two wheels. If you think about it the only true Harleys are those that were built in 1903. Whether I trade my PAS in for another GS remains to be seen but what I do know is that the PAS is a great bike and Harley deserve to have credit for producing a bike that is so competitive to the GS market. Oh and that is so much less expensive as well. Stay safe out there.
Great review on the new pan am. Many thanks. It is good you mentioned some issues you did not like, corporate just might follow up on those. Sounds like the engine will feel like the power curve on the V-rod engine. First thing I noticed test riding a Vrod was absence of low end torque. I got really lucky with my 2000 wide glide 88 cubic inch, so I'm spoiled. Two mechanics who did check ride at 10,000 mile check up said it pulled really strong. I reamed out the factory muffler so it can breath, rejetted the carb, installed screaming eagle ignition and a K&N high flow air filter. Always run Amsoil since the first oil change. I'm sure pan am riders will get used to needing a few more rpm's during normal riding compared to a twin cam. I remember the Vrod felt like a turbo kicked in at about 4000 rpms. This bike has great promise. If only we don't have a major world recession with that damned virus, sales of this should take off and motivate corporate Harley to get a 1700 cc engine in the cruiser bikes. The future is looking good.
Awesome video! I didn’t read all of the comments so some of these remarks may have already been addressed. The demo bikes that you were riding were the press launch bikes that spent a lot of time at Zakar, in the Mojave. The fine top layer sand in the desert is like powder and gets into everything, including the windshield mechanism. Raising and lowering the windshield felt unrefined because the mechanism was bound up by the sand. Normally the windshield has just 3 positions and will not stay anywhere you put it. The rear brake pedal height can be adjusted via the linkage as well as the pedal itself. My sense is that the pedal adjustment is for seated vs standing. Regarding the tires; my understanding is that the knobby tires have a 105 mph max and the standard tires are 130+. Milwaukee requires the ECM to be flashed when the knobby tires are installed by a dealer in order to limit the max speed as well as recalibrating the TPM sensor. I ride a CVO Road Glide and have 1,700 miles on my Pan America Special. I have a 1,000 mile road trip planned for early September for the PanAm and a 3,500 to 4K ride a couple of weeks later that I may choose to ride the PanAm on...depending on how the butt feels after the 1k ride.
Excellent video Ryan, well done. I grew up on dirt bikes. I'm older and retired now. But if I was younger and more agile, I would definitely add a Dirt Glide to my owners list.
Seen one pass me in Virginia on a highway. It truly looked amazing and stood out. I love what Harley did here. Don't think it's for me but anyway to keep the Harley brand going.!
Great video, best review that I have seen so far. Lots of great info, especially about the riding modes and how to adjust and evade them. Well filmed, aesthetically pleasing.
Awesome!!!! That means so much to me. I put so much work into the look of my videos and it takes alot of time. Along with relating the information. So glad it's appreciated by so many.
Nice video. I was out in Sturgis with my PA-Special - Black. It was a smash hit with ALL of the die hard Harley owners that i spoke to. Not to mention the MoCo did an off-road group ride on the Monday with some members of the PA dev team, AND Jochem Zeitz!!! He lead the ride on a PA Special.
Nice, balanced video Ryan. I am excited about this new model. I think it will attract customers new and old and should get HD towards a bright future, keeping HD around which is what we all want to see.
Great job on. The honest review I am too old and beat up to get one but I know what the taking a bike back in the woods and letting her rip was. Like I love my old Suzuki 125 street trail it was so much fun Harley should be pleased and should sell a bunch of theses
So cool! Thanks for commenting and letting me know!! It was very nice to meet both of you at Cement Ridge. Thanks again for taking the pictures for us!! I hope you had a great day riding.
Absolutely Love my Pan America Special!!! It’s opened up a new world of possibilities & dreams fir me. And has re-lit that flame I have for Riding!!!! Great video Ryan
i was so so about this bike, hadn't really gotten to see in person, now i want to check out and take a demo for one now in the desert west of las vegas and can see myself using it frequently on time off from work.
Nice review Ryan. I got my Gauntlet Gray PA S from Laidlaw's and I love it. I also got the sport side cases, not the industrial ones because I am street-focused. The only thing some people might want would be a quick-shifter, but since I'm old school, I didn't miss it at all.
How do you like the sport side cases? I'll be getting my Pan Am Special in about two months, and i have yet to decide wether to get the aluminium or the sport luggage. I will do off-roading, but only short rides, no long tours, so i'd probably take the sidebags off and leave them at the camp before heading off-road, and throw them back on before heading on the next highway stage. Think the Sport Sidecases will fit me?
@@TheDomAdventures I think they will Dom and I take the same approach. Riding lighter is better, the only thing you'll need is a camp chair because you can't sit on these cases.
Thinking about a 2022 model, but one thing I noticed is the radiator looks lower than other A-bikes and what's up with that short front fender. Seems like a lot of dirt, rocks, mud, etc. would end up hitting the radiator. I would still buy one but would look for a different front fender to help protect the radiator. Great review, love the bike but would still keep my Road Glide Special for long hauls.
Nice review of the new Harley. The last time Harley tried a new style was the XR1200 in 2009 and it just didn't sell in the US. I got a 2010 model and enjoyed it. It was reasonably quick, and styled like their XR750 dirt track bikes. Traditional Harley riders didn't know what to make of it, surprising to me as Harley's dirt track legacy is deep. I sold mine to a collector and now wish I still had it, they have gone up in value since I sold mine. Let's hope this new design fares better than the XR1200. I ride a Super Tenere' right now and it's a solid adv bike as well.
I love the Pan America I'm so glad Harley-Davidson stepped into this Market I have road dual sport bikes for many years KLR and dr650 and I have a Road King that I just did Maryland to California and back I was looking for a Buell Ulysses but now that Harley makes a Pan America I am saving my money to buy 1 soon so glad that Harley-Davidson has this to offer

You guys rock. Every time I watch your videos I get pumped. You guys are doing it right keeping the bike riding sole and the real tradition alive in our hearts. I was from WA a few years ago I miss WA, had to move to fresno California mom had cancer and dad I'd almost 80 years old. We lost mom last year. I would so ride with your group. I don't have a bike yet lol. Was saving for a street glide but between mom and covid19 there went my savings..im a truck driver and it takes forever to save..lol life I suppose... if your ever around the fresno area hit me up round beer's on me. Keep on going on.............Victor
Good review, very accurate. The thing I noticed the most about riding this bike compared to my cruiser, like you I have lower back issues, on my Pan America my back gives me no problems at all, amazing! The suspension is unbelievable, and like you said at the end of your video, I would be riding down on my Road Glide and see those fire roads or jeep trails and go man I wish I could go on that. And that is primarily why I bought this Pan America. Having looked at the GS 1200 and other adventure bikes, I was really hoping Harley would knock it out of the park with this bike, and they have. I am so in love with this bike I cannot walk past it without getting on it and going somewhere. One test ride on this bike and you’ll ride out of the dealership with it. I got the Special but without the ARH, (I’m 6’) and I am not disappointed. Now if they would just get the luggage in stock so I can take a few things with me on the ride!

I was very close to trading my 2012 Stage II FLHTK for a Black PA Special 22,with. 900 miles, V&H Coffee Mug Exhaust, and aftermarket full Skidplate, wire wheels. But for $6k and my bike, I just couldn’t pull the trigger. I know this is totally unrelated, but I’m either going to buy a new Goldwing DCT Tour, or a PAS as my next MC. I’m going on 73, and my FLHTK’s weight is getting a little difficult for me to handle during slow speed maneuvers, especially when I have to walk her back in garaging situations.
I rode a 'special' model on self guided demo. Wow! Yeah, it rips. A little low regarding ground clearance. But I just finished the trans American trail. I'd take this bike on it. And enjoy the ride home too. Well done harley.
I think Harley hit it out of the park for their first foray into the ADV world. I would buy it and ride it. You did a great video and a great review. You pointed out things that everyone else that I have seen just skipped over. As always you do great work.

Ryan, it was nice to meet you when you pulled into Sturgis. Nice video and I was surprised to see us in your video. I rode it twice while we were in Sturgis and twice here at home and it impressed me every time. I currently ride adventure motorcycles and a Streetglide but can't wait to take a Pan America on an adventure for more than a half-hour. I will have one in 2022 since I wanted to give it a year and talk with 1st-year owners but it has been hard to wait.
Good to meet you also Dan. I'm wrestling with buying one. I have my KLR, but it's not the bike that the Pan America is. Ride safe & Ride Often! @@RyanUrlacher I ride a DR650 and Triumph Tiger 800XC and enjoyed your perspective on Pan America since you do ride some off road. Thanks for your service and be safe.
Ryan, I have ridden the Pan Am and loved it. I have owned and/or ridden most of the ADVs built over the past decade. The Pan Am is as good as any of them. Yes, the BMW R1250 GS may be more "refined" or has been better thought out, but not by much. This is a great accomplishment by Harley-Davidson. Think about it. BMW has been building and refining the GS line for decades. What did I think of the Pan Am? It was as easy to handle as my Versys 650, it pulled like my Ducati and was as comfortable on the road as my Road King. There will be a Pan Am in my garage next year, unless the new Triumph Tiger 1200 (yet to be released) is a game changer. As for whether traditional Harley Riders will accept the Pan Am. It has been my experience that most Harley riders who are still riding are more "rider" than "biker". They are more about riding than culture. One of the reason Harley decided to bring the Pan Am to market is that the 40 and 50 something riders who traditionally bought Harley touring models were considering large ADVs for touring needs. I bought my Road KIng primarily for two up riding with my better half. Although I have taken long solo trips with it, I prefer an ADV bike for touring duties. They are nearly as comfortable, can be ridden in a sporty fashion and, as you say in the video, allow the exploration of the many dirt and gravel roads this Country has to offer. Lastly, the Revolution Max engine is awesome. I love my M8, but the Rev Max is in another league. As I wrote on my blog, the 131-equipped Ultra that was ridden my the dealer rider who went along on my Pan Am ride could not keep up when we gave our respective bikes the beans. The Pan Am ate it for lunch. I like the vibe (literally and figuratively) of the traditional Harley twin and Harley will continue to offer traditional bikes (Just as Triumph offers it's Modern Classics), but expect to see a line of more modern and capable motorcycles from the Motor Company.

Great review. I own a Pan America Special and although it's an adventure bike, I didn't really buy it for the offroad capabilities. It's a superb canyon carver with 150 horsepower and huge lean angles. It can do things my former Street Glide Special could only dream of. I'm VERY pleased with this bike. It should be noted that the protective bar for the exhaust is a $160 Harley accessory. At the moment, just about all of the accessories are not available. Some of them are not expected to be in stock until at least November. Harley won't even accept orders for many.
Guys, great job on this video, again. The quality of the shots and editing are top notch. I really enjoyed it. I don’t see myself buying the Pan but if I were considering it your ton of information would certainly help.
About the rear brake pedal, pretty sure they made those 2 positions to quickly let you switch between mostly-sitting and mostly-standing preferences. You're probably still required to adjust the pedal to your liking as you would on other motorcycles.
A tool for every job… Very good review! I’m glad you did the pick the bike up from laying on its side as that’s my biggest concern. I ride alone almost all the time and being near Ocala national forest this would be my playground. I have to be able to pick it up when I dump it.
I really like what Harley is doing, personally I think they are back in the game with this new engine and the sportster s also out and hopefully the Bronx Harley is moving in the right direction and by the way I ride a 2019 road glide ultra .
Nice informative video ! Left my 2017 street glide at the dealer and ordered Pan America special, patiently waiting its arrival. Watching your video has helped ease my anxiety !
First of all - Great review ! I believe, that Harley made a home run with the Pan. It is so nice to see them go all in on a new model like this. I went to see it and sit on it at our Harley Davidson in Roswell NM and wow is it an impressive motorcycle, when you see it in person. This might be a bike that attracts a lot of new drivers to the Harley Davidson brand. But I also believe, that it appeals to a lot of “older” drivers (i don’t refer to age). Congratulations to Harley Davidson for making this bike. This will redefine the brand and add a lot of new drivers. And isn’t that what it is all about ?
I'm a pretty large woman 200lb + 5'7" and I ride a 2020 road glide special and I've never ridden an adventure bike but I have a good friend who you may know of Momma Dee Jones, (author of 50 states of consciousness who has ridden all 50 states at least twice and set some records) who rides the BMW 1250 GS I think that I was considering checking out. I would really love to see some kind of a comparison in general for someone like me that's heavy and has never ridden an adventure bike or if it's even recommended LOL.
The adaptive right height would be beneficial to you at 5'7". The suspension constantly adjust to keep a 30% sag. I recommend doing a demo ride and see how you like it. Ride safe & Ride Often! Preface: I own a BMW R1200GS 2018 model, the BMW is better in the following ways. Quick Shifter and Blipper, Almost no heat on my legs with the BMW need to route the exhaust differently to stop that on the Harley, tuck the exhaust out of the way, overall feel of the BMW is better, the windshield is clunky for sure on the Harley, the switch gear is nicer on the BMW. *this is particular to my local dealer? The gouging of the sticker price for the new bike, $5,000k over MSRP. (Not cool) What I liked on the Harley was the 150 HP, the styling of the Spoked Wheels with the Harley Davidson name embossed on the wheel lip. It rode well, and felt comfortable. Would I swap? Nope! Not as it stands right now the BMW is a better overall machine, but I will say that Harley did a great job for its first attempt. (Gotta fix the nose of the bike somehow, and yes it needs a beak.)
A nice enough looking, full featured bike that will be attractive to the right person. My adventure riding days are long gone though. I do have to say I really don't like the logo on your test bike. It looks to me like the day before they gave it to you someone said: "We forgot the logo! Quick, get some masking tape and we'll fix it".

Nicely done review, one of the most thorough. I like the reminder that it is an adventure tourer, not a pure dirt bike. One thought on videography, that top-of-helmet-mounted camera is the least good at showing what you are experiencing. Please get a chin or chest mount. Subscribed. I'm very happy that HD is designing relevant, modern, capable motorcycles. After the electric bike, I was worried about the long-term viability of the company. But the new Sportster and the Dirt Glide have renewed my hopes for the future.
Harley seems to be doing so many things right. Not trying to pressure people or have them sign some document preventing them from saying mean things. Their new model of business is to build something that is good, so you don't need to use sneaky marketing tricks to sell it. I feel like Harley's old method of sales was to basically hype up their products through clever marketing and artificial scarcity, without ever really caring about the performance or safety of their bikes.

Another issue I have had with mine is poor placement location of the kickstand I have put the bike in gear trying to put the kickstand down and I have riding this bike for just under 1k miles and it really wants to be ridden hard.
My brother designed the FIRST "Pan Am" Harley for a builders contest conducted by Harley Davidson. They changed like two small things on the bike and didn't even give him design credits.

I have had my PA for two months now and I'm more than happy with it! I still have not figured out the whole phone sinking and navigation thing yet, but that will come with time. Besides it kind of sucks not being able to get any accessories from HD because they are all backordered and nothing is out yet in the aftermarket. The only thing I can add too your review is, Why the hell didn't HD put a couple of UBS ports in the cockpit. I know they have the C-port on the side of the instrument panel but that is also the diagnostic port and I don't want to damage that, probably have to replace the cluster if it broke. Also $19.00 for an oil filter from the dealer is highway robbery. Great review on a great bike!
A solution might be a USBC extension cable or hub. Preferably one with an angled USBC plug. You could tie the cable someplace to provide a strain relief. That way the wear and tear would be on the adaptor, instead of the built-in port on the display.
Since the release of the Pam American info, I've wanted more in-depth information on what the Pan can do. I love riding cross-country and would like to ride off-roading with my father-in-law in Northern Idaho. I would ride the Pan but must convenience the wife to allow another bike in the house. Thanks, Ryan for this awesome introduction on the in's and out's of Pan America.
Looks like a great bike for your area. I grew up in Yakima, rode small hondas 305 scrambler, 650 BSA, 400 Suzuki TS loved being up in the mountains and no cops to harass you back then lol.
The work HD put into this bike to compete with BMW shows how competition makes things better for the consumer world wide. Thank God for the American free market system. Is this a prognostication for what is coming in HD street bikes? Ride modes? Adjustable windscreen? Liquid cooling? Technical suspension? Competition can be a beeyotch.
True! competition definitely drives innovation. Ride safe & Ride Often! Check out this RUclips Channel as we have a ton of free videos for you! This is the sort of video which is excellent (and nicely dosed ads talk). I own a Pan America and not yet had the time to off road, but your details are accurate. The grip which I believe is to be addressed after the new Sportster roll out is the size of the fonts used on the widget screen and some glitches with the HD navigation app. This will be a software update. Perhaps they will include a user adjustable setting for the TMPS to knobbys too. The lower engine protection and radiator grill are essential, as is the additional protection over the exhaust as you showed. Thank you for a great video.

Needs a quick shifter as an option with that much power. Hard to keep the tire down in first and second while focusing on shifting and holding on for dear life.
Harley riders possibly will. Human beings with brains will not.
Ryan,
I heard you say your from WA STATE?
Thank you,
FREEDOMGUNNER
GREAT video man, killer review. You’re definitely the only person I’ve heard of that washed a demo bike before returning it, lol
Awesome meeting and hangin w y’all in Sturgis!
Rock on!! Thanks
Mate..you're living the dream with 3 harleys in the garage!!
@@RidesForDays Thank you. I feel blessed, along with having a good wife who tolerates my passion for motorcycles, guns and jeeps.
"Dirt Glide", I like it.
Love the pan America I'm a bit old to ride off road anymore but hopefully it will get the attention of the younger people and sell well for the moco
I think it will bring some new HD riders to the brand.

So glad Tall had this opportunity as well.
He's a great guy. It was good to get to know him a bit.
I want a Pan America. I like the name "Dirt Glide". 😄
Dirt Glide. Definitely
Fun you say that, I was thinking "Mud Glide" or "Trail Glide".
Great review! Thanks Ryan and team! I got mine a couple weeks ago. Unbelievably stable. Really enjoying it. If you ride one you’ll buy one! Cheers!
Great to hear!
Wow, great video again Ryan! And what a speedy production, filming, editing, publishing. Very impressive. Btw, the Pan is a beautiful machine. Thnx from Holland!
Shout out Holland! Thanks Bart.
Hey Ryan thanks for your view off pan America really enjoyed it and hello from New Zealand will be doing a test ride soon
Great job Ryan!! I’m so glad to see a real rider who is NOT bought by the company to put the bike to the test.
Thanks soooo much!!
I love mine I rode to Sturgis and back. I was there when you were there. I rode 3500 miles there doing a world record poker run.
Nice!
You definitely weren’t lying about the “butt buffer pad”. I bought it before I rode to Sturgis this year from Kentucky, and it saved my world! Great video and review on this bike!
We love it! I'm glad you do too.

Great input and thank you for your appreciation of the video. Ride Safe & Ride Often!
Its fun to see where I grew up underneath the Sturgis sign on the hill in your video! Looking forward to getting one of these in the spring! Great video! I live right down the road from Knife Blade where you rolled up at 17:40 :)
Americans are overhyped over this bike, but the GS is still the king of adventure bikes.
Looks like that would be a good option for a police motorcycle set up
Very good that Harley Davidson now makes an "Adv" dual purpose bike 👍
Had the opportunity to test ride one here in Saskatchewan while my streetglide was getting some abs repairs. I was very impressed and not gonna lie....
My heart was pumping, remembering and bringing back memories of a younger me on a trailbike! Well done Harley!
Thanks for sharing!
Great video Ryan. It's not for me, but I am glad HD did such a great job on this bike.
Thank you!
Very informative review, mate (as usual) A couple of our HOG Members have got them. Great bike. Thanks again, from Australia
Shout out Australia!! Thanks for watching.
I got one a week ago. So far great bike still learning everything. Hopefully get my bags and other accessories soon. Tired of just having a backpack...lol. but unfortunately no one knows when they will be in stock. I am in NC and want to go to Sturgis next year and maybe Daytona this year if covid doesn't cancel it
Right on!
I love it!
Best Pan America review I've seen. Thank you!
Thank you Dave!

👍
I want one! But can't afford 2 bike payments at this time. And won't give up my road glide for one.
I hear ya. I'm in the same predicament.

I could see this thing handling well with the street orientated tires.

Cons - I don't like where the indicator switch is placed as I often find myself tooting the horn , where the battery is fitted as its awkward to get at and possibly damaged , the foot pegs , as you say could be lower, the engine is too buzzy for me ( more on that later ) the bike is too fast ( have I really just written that ) at low speeds it just wants to go
Pros - Its a far better looking bike than it has been given credit for , the engine is comparatively low maintenance , its very comfortable its comparatively light , the gearbox feels smooth and it handles bends wonderfully.
Thanks for sharing with the community!!!!
Thank you for input. The future is looking good!
I live in the black hills. Great bike. They’re still a rare sighting out here so I don’t think much will change in Sturgis for some time.
Great info! Thanks all good advice.
Thank you! And thank you for your comments.
Excellent video Ryan, well done. I grew up on dirt bikes. I'm older and retired now. But if I was younger and more agile, I would definitely add a Dirt Glide to my owners list.
Right on!
Another great video - I bought my Pan America to go with my ultra love both bikes for different reasons. Thx for your work
Awesome!! Enjoy riding you new Pan America!! Thanks for watching.
Whoa whoa. I was looking at getting a Road Glide, but now I want this. It looks bad ass!
Seen one pass me in Virginia on a highway. It truly looked amazing and stood out. I love what Harley did here. Don't think it's for me but anyway to keep the Harley brand going.!
They did a good job making it unique.
Thank you!
Nice, balanced video Ryan. I am excited about this new model. I think it will attract customers new and old and should get HD towards a bright future, keeping HD around which is what we all want to see.
Totally agree!
Great video and review.....and I just got me one for me self!!! Cant wait....gonna ride it all through winter!
Right on!
Great job on. The honest review I am too old and beat up to get one but I know what the taking a bike back in the woods and letting her rip was. Like I love my old Suzuki 125 street trail it was so much fun Harley should be pleased and should sell a bunch of theses
Thank you Mark!
It's so weird clicking on a random video and suddenly seeing Spite. And that was before he got stabbed in the back by Yammie.
So glad to see you used the picture I took of you guys on Cement Ridge. We were the couple on TW200 and XT250. Awesome video!
Thank you!
I haven't heard anyone yet knock the PanAm. I know nothing about adventure riding, but this seems like a big success for H-D. Terrific video!
Thank you! It is an impressive machine.
i was so so about this bike, hadn't really gotten to see in person, now i want to check out and take a demo for one now in the desert west of las vegas and can see myself using it frequently on time off from work.
It's very impressive. They did a good job with this one.
Nice review Ryan. I got my Gauntlet Gray PA S from Laidlaw's and I love it. I also got the sport side cases, not the industrial ones because I am street-focused. The only thing some people might want would be a quick-shifter, but since I'm old school, I didn't miss it at all.
Right on. Thanks for sharing
Thank you!
They had left over XR1200’s for thousands below MSRP when they discontinued them. I wanted one pretty badly, missed out. Got the Pan America!
Earlier this month I talked to a guy who was on one. Said he was doing the iron butt challenge on it and was having a blast
Awesome!
Right on. I think you'll really like it.

Thanks so much for the kind comments. Rooting for you to get a bike!! Sorry about losing your mother......
Thank you for your input. Hopefully they get the aftermarket parts in so. Many companies are experiencing supply chain issues. I'll be happy when these issues are resolved.

Right on!
Excellent review, of this new bike , I’m a fan of the Pan America!
I think Harley hit it out of the park for their first foray into the ADV world. I would buy it and ride it. You did a great video and a great review. You pointed out things that everyone else that I have seen just skipped over. As always you do great work.
Thanks so much for the kind words. Really worked hard at this review.
Nice to hear someone call it like it is. These are touring bikes. Why would anyone want to take a $20k, 500 pound bike off road?
Thank you.

Hi Ryan,
Awesome review man, well done. Looks like a winner 👍. Huge shout out to HD.
Stay safe man from Sydney Australia
🤘🤘🤘
Shout out Australia! Thanks Kevin

Tom, great insights. Thank you for sharing with the Law Abiding Biker community.

Thank you for the info on the exhaust protection bar. The bike I rode had a bunch of add-ons. I didn't realize the exhaust bar was extra.
Guys, great job on this video, again. The quality of the shots and editing are top notch. I really enjoyed it. I don’t see myself buying the Pan but if I were considering it your ton of information would certainly help.
Thanks for watching!
Good call!
I like this guy, great all-round attitude, is why I subbed . . .
Thank you!
I really like what Harley is doing, personally I think they are back in the game with this new engine and the sportster s also out and hopefully the Bronx Harley is moving in the right direction and by the way I ride a 2019 road glide ultra .
I totally agree with you.
The Pan America is a bike I have always envisioned. I will be 71 in November. It is a fine machine. It is a little to late for me.!
It's never too late!
Nice informative video !
Left my 2017 street glide at the dealer and ordered Pan America special, patiently waiting its arrival.
Watching your video has helped ease my anxiety !
Awesome!!!! Congrats
I like the girl who is washing the motorcycle😍
Rode it, reviewed it, loved it, bought it. My Swiss Army knife bike replaced my Road Glide Ultra. 👏👏👏 Motor Company!
Nice!
Same with me, traded my RGU in for the Pan.
Thanks for weighing in on the conversation.
Well Done. Just think what was spent on Jason Mamoa. Kind of like having Elton John at the 100th, years ago. Solid review!! Glen
Thanks so much!!!!
I like seeing woman riding!
The adaptive right height would be beneficial to you at 5'7". The suspension constantly adjust to keep a 30% sag. I recommend doing a demo ride and see how you like it.

(Not cool)
What I liked on the Harley was the 150 HP, the styling of the Spoked Wheels with the Harley Davidson name embossed on the wheel lip. It rode well, and felt comfortable. Would I swap? Nope! Not as it stands right now the BMW is a better overall machine, but I will say that Harley did a great job for its first attempt. (Gotta fix the nose of the bike somehow, and yes it needs a beak.)
Thanks for sharing. Appreciated...... And, please Harley, NO BEAK......keep the front end. It would just look like another adventure bike with a beak.
Yea, I've thought the same thing. The tank logo needs a redesign.
LOL! That's funny..

At the end you talk about Sturgis expanding to dirt riding. Not sure if you agree but I saw more trikes and side by sides than in the past.
Yah, true
Nicely done review, one of the most thorough. I like the reminder that it is an adventure tourer, not a pure dirt bike.
One thought on videography, that top-of-helmet-mounted camera is the least good at showing what you are experiencing. Please get a chin or chest mount.
Subscribed.
I'm very happy that HD is designing relevant, modern, capable motorcycles. After the electric bike, I was worried about the long-term viability of the company. But the new Sportster and the Dirt Glide have renewed my hopes for the future.
I agree.
Thank you! We're looking at a chin mount or chest mount. I use a microphone that plugs into my helmet GoPro. We just have to work out the details.
Ok Ryan, Now I have to go test drive one! My wife is gonna be Pissed at you...Again!😂 Thanks for the GR8 review & all your vids! LiveToRide
HAHAHAHA.
Thank you for you comments. They do seem to be doing things right these days.

Another issue I have had with mine is poor placement location of the kickstand I have put the bike in gear trying to put the kickstand down
and I have riding this bike for just under 1k miles and it really wants to be ridden hard.
My brother designed the FIRST "Pan Am" Harley for a builders contest conducted by Harley Davidson. They changed like two small things on the bike and didn't even give him design credits.
Sorry to hear that.

There is a USB type c interface on the side.
You have to get the Harley App on your phone, then just pair it with Bluetooth! Navigation works great.
@@RyanUrlacher you might know I said why I did not want to use the diagnostic port (USB interface) on the right side if you read my full post.
U betcha!
Great video. Thanks for sharing, very informative.
Thanks for watching!
Looks like a great bike for your area. I grew up in Yakima, rode small hondas 305 scrambler, 650 BSA, 400 Suzuki TS loved being up in the mountains and no cops to harass you back then lol.
Yes, it would be a great bike for our area. I'm debating if I should get one or keep my KLR that is paid for.

Thanks for watching and for the kind words!!
