I have lived in Germany for nearly 2 decades now. Contrary to the experiences of this German-Nigerian lady, I have not experienced a fibre of racism or racial discrimination all the years I have lived and worked here in Germany as a black man. That’s not to say that racism doesn’t exist in Germany, I just haven’t experienced it first hand. Maybe it’s because the lady was living in a small town in Germany. Maybe! I really don’t know. Germany is a multicultural society and it is still one of the best countries in the world to live in, especially when it comes to interracial relations. The police are friendly and the people are accommodating for the most part. My experience differs greatly from that of the German-Nigerian lady. That’s my 2 cents.

hey y´all! sorry but I don´t know about that young lady. It´s my opinon and nobody has to agree with me. For me it seams like natural to "check out" differences. For example if I go into a small town in Africa, I´m pretty sure as soon as I step into the town as a white guy, I´ll be surrounded by kids and get starred at, because I´m different and they probably have never seen something like me. I had the experience in China almost 20 years ago. I was visiting an old town kinda fortress thing. A bus full of young students from the country side arrived at the same time I was there. Some of them started taking pictures of me, kinda hidden so I wouldn´t notice but I did. so I started posing with them and in the next minute I was surrounded and everyone wanted to take a picture. I didn´t mind, I thought it was fun.
I grew up in a small town in germany and I had friends of all kind of nationalities. So I don´t care about skin color or race. In my opinion we´re all mixed anyways so there is only one race left homo sapiens!
Coming back to what this young lady was saying. She´s comparing a small town in germany to London (I think that´s where she moved). I´m pretty sure in a small town in the UK where she is the only person of color, it would be kinda similar if not worse. But that´s just me guessing!
No offence to anybody! If that´s her experience I don´t wanna talk it down or anything. I just wanted to say, that it´s probably more curiosity to stare than hatred.

I was born in the US, growing up and still living in Germany for 39 years. It is my home 🇩🇪. Yes people will stare at you but if you respond with a smile and just greet with a simple "Grüß Gott" or "Hallo" things are really smooth. I understand that the older folks have a special way to verbally express themselves but if you grew up with it, you will understand what they are saying. Maybe you feel like people are staring at you because you expect them to do that, knowing you are different. I prefer calling it "looking at someone" instead of "staring". She is pretty, so why wouldn't people look at her?
I appreciate those elderly Germans since they are straight forward and so political uncorrect, i love it 😅.
Well if you move into a small community you don't have to be diverse to be treated like an outsider. You can be the most german person ever and have the same issue. Everyone knows each other but they don't know you. That's it.
Grüße aus dem schönen Unterfranken 🙋🏽‍♀️

I have watched a lot of black peoples experience living in Germany and they have all been positive so this young ladies experience is a first for me. I also get stared at a lot in the UK because I am a young handsome man you just get used to it

A typical German hobby is people watching. You sit in a café and watch the people go by. Same with any mode of transportation like trains. People are just more interesting to look at I guess? When I was at the central bus station in the middle of our city (about 75.000 inhabitants) I saw a woman with deep black skin, natural hair and a shiny white mermaid dress walk by. She was so beautiful everyone was staring. Old, young, men, women, didn't matter. I have never seen anything like it before or since 😆
But most of the time people don't even think about it. If you accidently make eye contact you smile awkwardly and look away.
But the thing is, I grew up in a small city in the north (10.000 ppl max) and in my whole school there were no ppl of colour, one guy of Asian descent and a few Russian-Germans. The most "exotic" people in this darn city were Italians, I swear. So I can imagine, if she grew up in a place similar to this, it would have been hard for her. People would be curious or accidentally (and some idiots intentionally as well) insulting, you can't find any products that suit your needs and what not. I totally understand her decision. But over the last few years there has been a change and even formerly closed off communities have contact with people from other cultures. What with all the refugees and so on. It has become a lot more commonplace to see people with different skin tones, languages and cultures. Still not that many people from Africa, I think. But maybe they won't feel as alienated anymore? We could do with more cultural diversity. At least in my opinion.

I am very sorry that the woman in the video had such a bad experience in Germany.
I live in a really small village in Germany (2000 inhabitants). I'm a stranger to people because I haven't lived here forever. But I love the anonymity. Nobody knows about my “youthful sins” when I came out of a party drunk at night and sang songs loudly. A dark-skinned family with children lives two houses away. Other than saying “good morning” or “hello,” I never had much contact with them because I don’t want to have much to do with the neighbors.
But one day I was looking for my cat and asked all the neighbors. These neighbors too. We talked for a long time. I liked her immediately

I think she's right in some sense, because I have been attacked by old generation woman and her husband just because I sat making call. But outside that I believe that Germany is good and is the best country in the world and everyone to cone to stay. I live in Germany almost 30yrs. I am black Germany Igbo Nigerian. I am Germany citizen and I am proud of Germany 🇩🇪.❤❤❤

Its natural for kids to stare at things and people out of curiosity for example its a natural reaction humans have.

    Dont know where to start...
so to summarise, she was never actually in Germany, didnt go to school or grew up in Germany, but is glad that she never was because she knows that it would have been worse for her in Germany?
Saarbrücken is not a small city and has 170K inhabitants, is the state capital of Saarland and has a 30% migrant population, just as 25% of the population in Germany has a migrant background. Even 20 years ago she would not have been the only PoC there.
next...Maybe her relatives just wanted to save her the huge debt because university in Germany is free.
And by the way, we dont "stare" because someone is different. PoC just often assume its because they are PoC. We "stare" for no reason.
Basically, we are taught as children its polite to look the opposite person eyes. Apparently not in other countries, they often avoid it when you look at them. To the side, on the floor, upwards, at the watch/mobile phone. Just not in your direction. No idea which is better. Incidentally, this goes back to the Middle Ages when you could apparently first recognise in the eyes of the other person whether they would draw their sword. So looking the other person in the eye was a courtesy.
And yes, in Germany, if you travel by train without a tiket and cant prove your identity to pay the 60 euro fine later, you will be taken to the police station, especially if you are underage.
Germany is certainly not perfect. There is certainly racism but the examples she gives are 99% complete nonsense, sorry.

Alles dabei. Italien. Kosovo. Serbien. Spanien. Portugal.
Usw. Ich als deutsche war da ne Ausnahme. Aber das ist 35 Jahre her. Alles war anders. Friedlicher.
Also. Es geht auch Deutschen in Deutschland so.
      Peace ✌️

Jason Aldean's song "Try That In A Small Town " echoes sentiments in small towns in the US, Europe and other parts of tbe European diaspora. Some of these towns either are or were actually "Sundown" towns.

Think about it from deep in your heart! How are bad habits and Generational habits are passed on? From Generation to Generation. The same thing will happen to you if you go to China😁 In China they will look at you for what ever reson! It's not all bad! 😁

I was born in Germany 🇩🇪 , growing up in this country as a black man was stressful & hurtful at the end have to move to Ghana 🇬🇭 cause my parents are from Ghana. Later in life I moved to USA 🇺🇸 even though USA got their own story about racism is way better than Germany, haven’t been to Germany for 35 years.

RACIAL PROFILING!! An internationally known term for a situation when you get stopped (like pulled over in a traffic state and so on), just because of your skin colour!! The term is also, in its English version, used in the German language!! That is SOO unheard of!! A brilliantly performed sketch, this one!! Many thanks...TSCHÜSS und GRÜSS' von mir...
