I immediately subscribed to this channel due to the fact that your really engaged on the rules and providing the reasoning as to why. I have seing others creators go through the game but they are not as focused on the rules. I appreciate your attention to that and I really hope you do a playthrough of each monster, I don't comment much on anything but you did such a good job I had to
Thanks so much for the sub and the wonderful comment! I'm really happy you enjoyed the video. I hope you like the rest of the channel. My favorite playthrough videos are This War of Mine, Robinson Crusoe (x2), Frostpunk, Sleeping Gods, Final Girl, Mage Knight and Voidfall. I'd start with those, but there's a ton of fun stuff to discover and a great community of solo gamers here. Don't hesitate to comment and/or ask questions. I do my best to respond. Thanks again and have a great day!
I’m only half way through your video so far but I just stopped and told my wife that this guy is amazing! You are such a wonderful teacher. I’ve been teaching the blind and visually impaired for 30 years, and they miss so much because their teachers assume way too much in comprehension. You nail it though. You anticipate the misunderstandings and address them at the moment my mind starts to wonder. You really have a gift and I’m so happy to have found you :) Thanks so much!
Wow, that is one of the nicest compliments I have ever received. Thank you for those kind words. Some of my videos are better than others in terms of teaching -- I want the teach to flow with the playthrough, so everything is done off the cuff. I try my best to make it easy to follow. I know how confusing board games can be. I'm very happy that my teaching style works for you. Thank you so much for checking out the video and I hope you enjoy the rest of the channel! Have a great day!
I like that a game of this weight fits in a 51 minute video where you explain pretty much everything and take your time. Amazing video, hopefully you get to play and film more of this game! The quality of your explanation and editing is pretty incredible! - Blind specifically says you "choose a peril card", so you're correct it doesn't transfer to the next stance. If it had Permanent though, it'd stay on it. - At 26:15 I think you could have used Vulnerable on this attack to double the 5 damage, because the effect of the card happens before the effect of the card type (ie. the damage itself). Not that you would considering the damage Mirah dealt haha - Also at 35:00, be mindful that you don't actually discard the first behaviour until both behaviour and rampage have resolved. It didn't matter here, but it might for other behaviour triggers like rotations, etc. - At 49:40, Mirah started in a sector with the healing flower so she should have healed by 1. - At 50:50, you focus your mastery as soon as you get the required threshold. (you also should have taken a damage when shuffling your deck, but it didn't matter) - At 50:50, each Volley keyword is considered a single source of damage, so it shouldn't be included in the total for Vulnerable. It would have been Volley 2 damage (1), then Volley 1 damage (0) then attack damage (8x2=16). It didn't change much but that will probably have more influence when you get more gear!
Thanks for the kind words. I obviously edit my videos heavily to get this under an hour, but the gameplay IRL is snappy for this type of game. The brilliantly streamlined movement mechanism plays a large role in why it feels so satisfying and dynamic. You get everything you could possibly want with just four sectors and the monster facing. That's 10/10 design work. I'll definitely return to this one on the channel. One of my goals is to return to more games this year and record playthroughs without needing the teach. Those videos never perform well, but I think I would enjoy making them. Anyway, thanks so much for checking out the video!
Hi! Another important thing is the movement triggered by Behaviour card. At 34:34 Agression doesn't grant a FREE move as you did. You must pay a stamina always, either by token or discarding a card. Basically this end turn card let you decide if you want to start the next round with 1 more wound o 1 less card (or token) uhu. Movement triggered by behaviour card are NEVER free otherwise written on the card.
I really appreciate that. Thank you for the sub! I hope you enjoy the videos on the channel. Once I get through this backup of playthroughs on my table, I plan to return to Primal for another video. Thanks again and welcome!
I really enjoy your videos. Great explanations of what is going on without taking ages to do so, it's really well paced. And I like when you do the close ups of the cards too, they are really clean and easy to read. Thank you.
51:18 - "If we were playing the campaign..." If? Personally, I'd love to see you play through the campaign. There's all sorts of different paths you can take in the campaign and all sorts of different quests to do, I'd love to see which path you take. Might be worth waiting for the expansions to arrive (if you backed them) since that opens even more options
I'm playing the campaign in private but not on camera. I will come back to Primal and maybe figure out some way of making a video about the campaign but, due to how labor intensive my videos are, I can't devote that much channel time to it. Maybe I'll take notes and recap my campaign in a video once I'm done. That could be an interesting experiment. Thanks so much!
Very nice and well explained. Only two minor things I recognized: 34:44 she could not move without spending 1 stamina.. 😅 48:19 Firestorm is not active anymore since you forgot to change the peril card to level 3.
Also at around 49:00 he forgot to remove a struggle. But ngl I was blown away by how fluently he went through the turns - almost looked like he set this all up and studied a script 🤣 top notch content!
Ha, I've been sitting on that unboxing for a bit. I was hoping it would hype the playthrough. Those unboxings are fun to edit. I love just chopping everything up! Thanks for watching the playthrough!
I really glad you enjoyed the playthrough! Thanks so much for the compliment and thanks for checking out the video. I will definitely make more Primal videos, but it might be a little while. I have a long list of games I want to cover. Thanks again!
I'm happy you enjoyed the playthrough! Thank you so much for checking it, thank you for the comment, and thank you for the sub. I really appreciate the support. Have a wonderful day!
Nice Video. It helped me finding your upsies, understand my Upsies of the first play of the proloque. so all in all, your vid made me help almost fully get the basics now and have the right feel for the timings when to trigger what. Well done man. Subbed to the channel. Loved it. Thanks for your work and effort ! Until next time and sunny greetings from good ol' germany :D
I really appreciate the sub! Thanks so much! I'm glad the video helped. I hope to make more videos for Primal. Great game. I hope you enjoy your plays. Thanks for watching!
Around 50:30 you add the single damage from Volley to the damage inflicted by the attack card, then double it with Vulnerable. But Volley is a separate source of damage, so you should't add it and double it. The total damage would be 16 from the card + 1 from Volley. Not a big change in this case, but it does make a difference especially at higher levels.
Your play throughs are awesome. I have watched most of them now just because I enjoy how you approach the games. Even games that are definitely not my thing. Like this one. I would love to see your take on an Arkham Horror LCG play through. I know it's an older game but you have mentioned in some of your "Top X" lists and I enjoy that game quite a bit. So a selfish ask for sure. Keep it up. Take care
Thanks so much for those kind words! I really appreciate that. Arkham Horror LCG is definitely a game I want to make a video for on the channel. I'm not sure how I want to do it, since it is a game that has a lot of coverage from content creators. My goal is to add something to the conversation about a game and not repeat what others have done. I'll think about it more. Thanks for the recommendation and thanks for watching!
@@TotallyTabled I am sure you will figure something out. Just haven’t seen anything Arkham Horror LCG with your quality of production. Take care and thanks again for all the entrainment.
Great playthrough! Very well explained and a nice pacing. You seem to be a 'cautious' player 🙂. At 28:08 you decide to "hold on to this red card". I would have definitely played it. It would have been another red-red sequence, which would immediately focus my mastery and also give that great sword bonus again. Maybe even use that vulnerable on it that you acquired from the previous attack. But then again... I might just be reckless 😆and I love to see different play stiles. So, thanks a lot.
I was under the impression that three red in a row wouldn't trigger two red-red sequences, but I can see how that would be the wrong assumption. So I guess I wasn't playing cautiously, just didn't understand the rules. :) Thanks for watching!
Great play through. Fyi regarding vulnerable….Rulebook states…When you play a card in your sequence, resolve the card ability text and then its specific effect depending on the card color (pg 21). So theoretically you could use the vulnerable token on the same round and turn including the same card.
Ah, that's good to know. I've been playing that way in my other games using the rule of cool, but it is nice to know that is official. Thanks for the clarification and thanks for watching.
Your narration and rules explanation is excellent. Would love to see you do more Primal content. Are you going to film a campaign? At the very least would love to see you do an expedition.
I'm glad you enjoyed the Primal video. Thanks for the nice compliment. I typically don't film campaigns like live streamers do. And when I return to a game, it is usually after a bit of time. I will definitely return to Primal and probably play one of the expeditions, but it won't be right away. Due to the style of my videos, each one takes a long time to film and edit. It makes more sense for me to cover a variety of games rather than focus on a few. Thanks so much for watching!
Thank you for the video. It explains the game really well. I still have doubts about me keeping track of all the triggers. I dont know if i will like all this upkeep work. Maybe i should just crack open the core box and start playing...
Great rundown of this, I've been sleeving everything the last two nights and sill have the creature expansions to do (that card sleeve box is gonna be insanely heavy). Might dive into the campaign after a couple more plays of Robinson Crusoe :)
Ah, what scenarios have you been playing in RC. I posted my Reality Island scenario playthrough yesterday. That was a great scenario. Highly recommend. Have fun with Primal and thanks so much for watching!
@@TotallyTabled I only ran through the four tutorial scenarios, but they did a pretty decent job (I tend to compare any game with a tutorial to Jaws of the Lion since it was such high quality). It's funny I actually watched your playthrough last night and it was pretty epic! I had watched a few of yours beforehand and it actually had me jump the gun on some of the mechanics that weren't introduced yet in scenario two of the tutorial (oops!). I'd say, it's probably not worth your time to run through them to put a videos together unless you were going to give the tutorial a review score for new players. Keep up the good work!
I'm glad to hear the tutorial scenarios are pretty good. I was thinking about working through those, but I got too excited for the new stuff in the Adventure Book, so I decided to skip it. I echo everyone’s comments that this is so well done and I love your channel. I apologize if you already answered this, but what storage solution for the tokens is that? Thanks!
I never played Monster Hunter so I can't compare the two, but Primal is fantastic and I think you will really enjoy it, especially if you are a fan of this genre. Thanks so much for checking out the video!
Ah, that is a good question that I didn't consider. You are probably correct, I probably needed to spend a stamina there (although I don't know for sure). Good catch! Thanks for watching!
@@TotallyTabledsadly it is a pay stamina requirement to move in this case. The only time movement doesn't include the stamina cost is when it explicitly says so
I think the same movement would have removed the threatened token, but it did not matter as on next turn Mirah was staying put and not moving due the flames.
I definitely plan to make another one-off playthrough against another monster. Things are a bit busy at the moment, so it won't happen right away. Thanks for watching!
I think I may have played wrong, @36:10 you applied the attrition of 1 to gain 4 healing but prior to that you revealed 2 attrition cards and applied the 3 for dealing damage to the hero. I have played that the applied attrition card for the damage would be the ‘active’ attrition card for the heal. I’m gonna have to reread the rules as that’s literally killing me :)
Hmmm, yeah it feels strange to change the order of discarding. The active attrition card is the last card drawn. I don't think that would change just because the hero triggers the higher card of the last two drawn, but I could be wrong. Let me know if you get an official ruling on that one. Thanks for watching!
@@TotallyTabled no official ruling on the forum question asked around this so I guess order drawn is as good an order as anything else. I just thought when reading it that you have revealed 2 cards and taken effect of the higher 1st card therefore you would discard the other card and the in effect ‘activated’ card would discard 2nd. However, I tend to play lots of games where the underlying thought is, if it’s not in your favor that’s what you do so I just naturally applied to this. I will keep eye on the thread and update should official response occur.
Hi Shaggy! Nice to be back again! This looks like a really interesting game. I've just been busy lately, but soon when I'm done with school stuff for the term, I'll be watching your Voidfall series. This video was a good one. Do you have an idea when you might be doing another RC scenario? Those videos are always hits! Hope it's all well there :)
Hey, nice to hear from you again! I'm working on RC stuff right now. I'm going to go over the Collector's Edition goodies and then pick a new scenario to film. I'm not sure yet which one, but I want to play a scenario I've never played before. Thanks and good luck with the school stuff!
@@TotallyTabled I always get a joy watching your RC videos, as I'm still struggling to get my hands on a relatively cheap copy. In my country, demand for board games are pretty low, so the only options we really have are services like Amazon (And from your accent, I'm guessing you're either US or Canadian, so if you didn't already know, ordering from Amazon if you don't live in the US is REALLY expensive)
Ya, as others have said, great tutorial! The company that made this should include this video link in its website. 😀 A question: Exactly like you at 44:00, we had a player have fire put in their zone "during" their turn. We played it as that player could play no more cards after that, but you kept playing. Does fire only affect you if you start you turn in the same zone?
I'm glad you enjoyed the playthrough! I really hope it is available at retail at some point. Definitely a game that deserves more attention. Thanks for watching and thanks for the sub!
Thanks for the playthrough, it's well done. My thoughts on the game after watching: The concept is great but the layout, cards, tokens, and everything doesn't look fun to manage. And the miniatures and board seem completely out of place, like they don't even need to be a part of the game because of how rarely you interact or even look at it. Maybe they could have combined the board with the all the monster tracking to make it feel more together.
That looks great, I'd love to play that, seems to be really fitted for my preferences. ^_^ How it plays as standalone scenarios? You can choose your equipment freely?
Sure. Those are plastic coin capsules that coin collectors use, I suppose. I got mine from just a search on Amazon, but they are probably available elsewhere. Check out my Top 10 Board Game Accessories video here: ruclips.net/video/tEvrhrVXkEA/видео.html. I believe I have a link in the description that should help. Thanks for watching!
great video! At 34:30 "Aggression" pops. Do you have to ay a stamina to move? I couldn't figure that out on my play through & I didn't see you pay stamina...
Ah, can I play the red card for the assist when not in a red sector? That is an excellent question that I don't know the answer to. I don't have the rules in front of me right now. My gamer gut tells me that discarding a card for its assist ability is different than attacking the monster, so I'd like to think it is allowed. But that is not an official ruling. Thanks for watching!
Oh. Welp. Very good. Carry on then. Great video. Really makes the game look super approachable and streamlined which is rare for boss battlers outside of Townsfolk Tussle and Aeon's End. It honestly feels like Marvel Champions with a board.
@@TotallyTabledthat's not quite right. Rulebook p. 7 last paragraph: "Peril and objective cards come into play together with their corresponding stance, and are removed when that stance is complete." you can fulfill "hit the tail" only in stance 1. You fail the objective when moving to stance 2.
@@TotallyTabled Good catch thanks! Didn't pay attention to the keyword yesterday when playing the prolog. At least I can say I deafeted the boss on a slightly higher difficulty.

Awesome video. Thank you a lot!
Glad you liked it. Thanks for checking it out!
Well, damn. Now I want to buy this even though I passed up on the campaign. I hope they're gonna do a second one !
I hope one day I can get this game. Everything screams I want it. And I do hope I have the space for it, because those boxes are pretty massive.
Great playthrough and really easy to follow like always! Quick question, at 34:29 is it a free move or do you have to spend a stamina for it?
Ah, that is a good question that I didn't consider. You are probably correct, I probably needed to spend a stamina there (although I don't know for sure). Good catch! Thanks for watching!
@@TotallyTabledsadly it is a pay stamina requirement to move in this case. The only time movement doesn't include the stamina cost is when it explicitly says so
@@TheAlmightyGameGenie Yeah, that makes sense. Thanks for confirming!
I think the same movement would have removed the threatened token, but it did not matter as on next turn Mirah was staying put and not moving due the flames.
@@eXlamer That's a good point! Thanks for watching!
Please continue this game with other monsters. I just received the game last week and eager to learn how to play it.
I definitely plan to make another one-off playthrough against another monster. Things are a bit busy at the moment, so it won't happen right away. Thanks for watching!
Increíble, que ganas de recibirlo en EU
Thanks for checking out the video!
A question: Exactly like you at 44:00, we had a player have fire put in their zone "during" their turn. We played it as that player could play no more cards after that, but you kept playing. Does fire only affect you if you start you turn in the same zone?
At 34:00 Shouldn't this be 2 dmg (3 on card - 1 armorr)as you had to choose the worst of the two drawn cards?
Nice playthrough. Not backed the kickstarter. But if they bring out the core box it will be an interesting one to buy.
I'm glad you enjoyed the playthrough! I really hope it is available at retail at some point. Definitely a game that deserves more attention. Thanks for watching and thanks for the sub!
This video is amazing. Immediate sub
Thanks for the sub! I really appreciate it. I'm glad you liked the video.
Excellent thanks
Thanks for watching the playthrough!
@34:28 : Vyraxen turns to the player with the fewest defensive cards in hand. Would that not be Mirah as she has no more cards in her hand?
At 50:50 I think the archer should have taken fatigue and burn damage technically. Is that right?
Awesome play through!! I saw in other videos you have your chits in protectors do you know where I can find those?
@@TotallyTabled thank you I’ll go check it out.
great video! At 34:30 "Aggression" pops. Do you have to ay a stamina to move? I couldn't figure that out on my play through & I didn't see you pay stamina...
You need to spend a stamina. Thanks for watching!
27:19 From what I understood from the rule, you need also to remove the objective card, right? Other than that, great video! Keep going!
Usually, yes. But not for this one. Thanks for watching.
This objective says "Permanent". Therefore it stays through all stances.
IT'S HEREEEE
I hope you enjoy it!
I will enjoy it vicariously through you since for Asia we probably won’t see this for another 3-4 months sadly 😢
Ah, that sucks. Sorry.
I’m not seeing that hiding in the Brush costs a green card as you mentioned at about 19min. Did I miss something?
At 41:00. You played a red card in a zone that was not red. Is that an error on your part?
Ah, can I play the red card for the assist when not in a red sector? That is an excellent question that I don't know the answer to. I don't have the rules in front of me right now. My gamer gut tells me that discarding a card for its assist ability is different than attacking the monster, so I'd like to think it is allowed. But that is not an official ruling. Thanks for watching!
What do you think will be the average playtime for 1 session?
I'd say 60-90 minutes is my experience when playing solo. Thanks for watching!
Where did you get the round structure card from?
It was included in the base game for me.
When did this deliver!!
About 3 weeks ago for me.
In Minute 34: Don’t you have to pay for the forced move?
Yes.
Just to clarify for anybody watching this, you have to pay as each movement has to be paid with stamina (and loses the ’Threatened’ status).
@@TotallyTabled i believe you also had to give your self 3 attrition damage instead of 1
You forgot to change the Peril and Objective every time the boss changed states
Nope. The objective stays the same for this boss. I did change the peril. Thanks for watching.
Oh. Welp.
What does the keyword "permanent" on the objective card mean? Have you played the game or watched my playthrough?
@@TotallyTabled Good catch thanks! Didn't pay attention to the keyword yesterday when playing the prolog. At least I can say I deafeted the boss on a slightly higher difficulty.
Hi I'm First, and yes I'm kid.❤
Thanks for watching!
From a no native speaker: why are you saying "they" when you only talk about one character?
This is how English works. "The person walked. They went to the market."
@@TotallyTabled the more you know...i would have used "it" went to the market 😅.
@FurchtbaresGaming English is a nightmare. I cannot imagine trying to learn it as a second language. I'm a native speaker and I don't speak or write properly. Thanks for watching.
@@TotallyTabled actually english is easy for me. I consider my english as pretty solid. You should try to learn german ^^. In german "a person" is "a she" so if i talk about a person that went to the market i would say "she went to the market". The german aquivalent to "they" is only used, if talking about multiple persons.
This is just a copy of monster hunter
