This video is brilliant! Never thought of sharpening them this way. Couldn't find anyone to do them. Thank you!
Glad it helped! It's definitely super easy to do!!
This was not my first thought so I'm glad this was the first video I watched! I even already have a dremmel!
Just did it with a cone-shaped stone on a dremel 4300. Worked out great. Thanks Boss!
Glad it was helpful! Pretty easy trick, right?
I have been trying to find someone to sharpen my hedge trimmers. I'm 74 yrs old and a widow. I followed your instructions and finally sharp! I almost bought a new trimmer. Thank you 😊
That's awesome! So glad to hear that and I'm glad that it worked for you!!! Thanks for letting me know!
I had never thought of using the dremel for this- thanks!
Yeah it works great! Have you tried it yet?
Thank you so much! I’ve been trying to find replacement blades for my trimmer with no luck. I actually have a dremel! Time to get to work!
Let me know how it goes!!
Great video. I was wondering how I could sharpen my hedge trimmer.👍😊🇮🇪
That's the easiest way I found
very nice. brother is having tons of trouble with his. I'm guessing this's the solution. super easy !
I've been sharpening gas hedge trimmers for 18 years and I've always used a metabo grinder with a 4-in flapper wheel that way at sharpenser blades nice and smooth with no rough edges I only have to use a Dremel for the back blades that I can't get the grinder too try using a flapper wheel much smoother and much faster
Yeah that makes sense for sure. I've tried the 4 in wheel but for me, it leaves to much room for error. I will use it on mower blades however. The Dremel just gave me a way to not mess anything up so easily if that makes sense!
@@CleanCutLawnsNC yeah that definitely does make sense yeah I use the flapper wheels also for lawn mower blades I tried the grinding wheels but I just made too much of a rough edge I just got a load of 35 hedge trimmers in yesterday so I'm going to be doing half of them today and the other half in about 2 weeks
Thank you! I thought I would need to disassemble the blades. I've never serviced the blades on my 42 year old Craftsman Trimmer and it is finally bogging down. I'm to old school to run out and buy new first , especially after having to replace Chinese lawnmower blades every season knowing US Steel's blades lasted over 35 years.
I heard that. Hopefully this will help you out some! Good luck with it!
@@CleanCutLawnsNC thanks! This may be an antique.:)
It’s not old school ;-) Rather the good environmental approach that most people don’t use unfortunately…

You look baked bro. Cool video
Well man ,how do you cut bushes? 😂.
Dude I get baked as f*** and cut bushes and they look perfect. Old people in the neighborhood come over and compliment it like how did you get them that perfect? I tell him I get baked and my artistic side comes out. One day I decided to do it sober and I ended up fuckin three bushes up. Generally when you cut grass you should get baked. You become one with mother nature and I feel like you do better. That's something a stoner would say. LMFAO

Cool
Great idea! Does the dremel sharper or just clean it? Would an angle grinder work better?
They get pretty sharp and I can tell a difference in cut quality. Angle grinder could work but more room for error that way
@@CleanCutLawnsNC cool thanks. Im gonna give it a try. Thanks!

What’s the name for that tools where I can buy it
There should be a link in the description. It's the Dremel
Alright it thanks
Eye protection???
Yes I put it on but didn't need it to talk to the camera lol
How do you spread the teeth apart?
Honestly the easiest way is to just crank it up and hit the throttle
Wheres the demo cutting??? That's the proof.
Trust me it works
To Pattrapper 7: What more could he do, anyway? I'm sure the blades are sharp.
@@eddyvideostar 👍👍👊👊💪💪 thanks man
This seems too aggressive. Maybe the speed on the Dremel is too fast.
Not if you keep the angle right, it seems to work well for me. I just found the speed that worked for me.
That speed is way to fast. From the look of the spark that’s coming out . I use a dremel similar to the one he used , but just turn down the speed some , and you’ll be fine.
NOTHING is fast with a Dremel.
This seemed to go pretty quick
This video made me dizzy.
Interesting
Omg im sorry but this is the worst way to sharpen these hedgers. Im mean using a stone that way is taking way to much off. Dont get me wrong it could sharpen them. But once there dule you will have to repeat. After a little time you wont have a blade left. You dont need to take much off to sharpen any type of blade.
Not trying to be rude but I've had these same blades for years and they're still working perfect. So this statement is not correct
@@CleanCutLawnsNC ok thats good if you still have them. Im just saying using a high speed dremal and a stone will work it just might not last as long. The stone takes off more than needed to sharpen when if you use just a simple fine hand file and do maybe 3 or 4 passes threw each blade is almost all you need. Now that does depends on how worn the blades are as well. I do apologize i wasnt meaning it to be rude just stating that this is not the best way or long term solution.
As a professional in sharpening all types of blades what you use to sharpen a blade best determines on the use of the blade on how sharp and how long you want it to last. A few different type of files.
You won't get a prize for videotography. It's annoying when the camera is bouncing all over the whole time. The info is good tho.
@@erinschmitz6850 oh I know my video skills are bad 🤣
That is not the way to sharpen trimmer
It works like a charm. You do you and I'll do my way that works
Lousy camera work
@@Richard-vj4wj I could definitely use some lessons with that lol
So that's all it take to make your hedge trimmer cut like a new one ............Funny how some people think they know everything. Removing the dirt from your hedgetrimmer " all you have to do" like you say , with a dremel isn't enough budddy and it doesn't make your hedge trimmer cut better. Those 57 dollars you pay for sharpening your blade isn't only for dirt removing like you did . They adjust the screws, make sure there's no gap between the blades , change the drums between the blades when worn out and add greese. So next time, try to make an honnest video, sharpen your hedge trimmer the way it supposed to be done and do the final test , trimm a yew hedge with your dremel sharpened hedge trimmer.......
You're awesome! Thanks for such a good comment. However, this has worked for me. You do you and I'll do me!
whatever , I have over 20 years of experience doing garden maintenance, trimm me some yew hedge with your fake dremel . Sharpening a hedge trimmer isn't that simple, good luck ;A comment is a comment , if you like it or not , I don't care
I even have a bigger challenge for you ...... trimm me some box hedges. Does yours have lots of brown dried leaves?
if it cost $57 to sharpen the blades on my greenworks hedge trimmer...I midas well buy a new damn hedge trimmer since they only cost $63 with free shipping.
I'm a professional, I trimm hedges almost every day . Good luck with your made in China rip off hedgetrimmer. Thanks to your idiocity and your stupidity, America will never be great again. Thx for saving the world...............
You should hire an epileptic kid to film for you, so it is more steady. I actually cringed for you. This should have been a comedy video, not an instructional video.
You should just go check out another video
Excellent video. I'm a new homeowner with zero skills at gardening and maintenance, but I'm trying. Very helpful
Thank you! All of the skills will come with practice!!
Awesome!
Did it work for you?
@@CleanCutLawnsNC Yes, just got done sharpening and back to trimming some hedges. Thanks again!
@@BryanSpear awesome! I'm glad that it worked!
Great Video
Use Saftey Glasses
Stones due fly apart sometimes.
Definitely agree. I always wear some glasses
how do you get the right angle to put the mini grind wheel against the blades??
Do a couple passes with dremel off sit flat on surface and go back and forward, then turn it in and u are set u will get the hint of it really easy
Thank you, I run a landscaping business and have been paying silly money to get mine done
Love sharpening mine this way and really doesn't take that long!
Same. Been sending mine in for a week or 10 days before getting it back and £70 later.
Thanks
@@NorfLondonGardener are you gonna start doing it yourself?
Just did it myself.
Used an electric drill as I don't have a dremmel and worked fine. Gave it a test and blades running much better than before. Thanks
Will def do it in future
@@NorfLondonGardener awesome! Glad to hear that!
Take some lessons in videography, will you? The way you swing that camera around actually made me seasick!
How do you sharpen a Black and Decker 22 inch hedge trimmer
I've never sharpened those specifically but I would try this technique with any hedge trimmers
I would use a square head brass bristle brush as such for BBQ grills . Much more head surface and bristles to contact the blade in one pass .
If you do, let me know how it works!
Very smart simple and effective thanks for the heads up best video I've seen yet.. ...keep it simple .....that what comes from experience. Thank you
It works pretty well and doesn't take all that long. I like it. I appreciate you commenting
I looked up a few videos about hedge trimmer sharpening because I've just recently aquired a used one and damn does it need sharpening! Why would you not remove the blade and sharpen it in a vise to prevent damaging the bottom mating surface the blade slides on? And why would you not flip the main bar over and sharpen the back side which seems to have the same slope? It would appear that what you're doing is like sharpening a pair of scissors, but only sharpening one blade instead of both, but I see that you can definitely use a Dremmal Tool and that's worth something.
I did flip it over and sharpen the other side. I just didn't want to make the video longer than it needed to be.
to answer your question on "why would you not just remove the blades and sharpen them?". The reason why is because removing blades on a gas powered hedge trimmer takes a lot of time and the blades are directly connected to the gear box and sometimes the gears can and will literally fall out and you will most likely be chasing loose hedge trimmer parts all over your garage or at best you will create a nice "puzzle" for you to put back together. It is much much easier to just sharpen the blades without removing the blades, trust me..
To be honest the video is just a typical diy'ers idea of how to try and sharpen the blades. It actually is only half a job and not even a good one at that...
@@GSXRAlstareK3 then what's your idea?
@@GSXRAlstareK3 You are a fool. You just repeat this process on each tooth, front and back side... Of course he did it, would you rather have watched a 15 minute video of each individual tooth being sharpened?
Used a crude chainsaw stone but would prefer something smaller with curved point. Always thought these things needed disassembly to sharpen but nope. Mine is better now but not where I’d like it
Yeah I hear ya! Took a while for me to figure it out! 👊
I use my hedgecutters almost every day but generally find I only need to sharpen them once a year, not that I'm lazy but Stihl and Husqvarna make quality blades & they have excellent longevity so I will have a day where I get a few beers, sit in the shed/workshop, remove the blades and sharpen them by hand with a file! I weirdly enjoy it but it's whatever works for you!
I don't drink but it is kind of satisfying sharpening those blades and I honestly hit some stuff that I probably shouldn't lol
Great video buddy and very informative. Where can we get that blade cleaner and lubricate at? Thank you for the video bud.
Your local ECHO dealer should have some! Thats where I get mine!
@@CleanCutLawnsNC Thank you so much for getting back to me bud and for the info, take care.
Awesome job
Thanks Roger!
Great tips. Thanks for sharing!
Glad it was helpful! Let me know how it works for you!
How often do I have to sharpen?
I just sharpen mine whenever I notice that they're not cutting that good anymore. It's hard to give a specific timeframe on that one
Can this method be used to sharpen an edger blade ?
I doubt it. All of the edger blades that I've seen, once they're worn out then they're done for.
Great video thanks
Glad it helped!
You saved me a ton of money! Thanks.
Glad it helped. I'm guessing you tried it out?
@@CleanCutLawnsNC Yes, and admittedly, it was slow going until I got the hang of it. But, the place I normally have them sharpened has raised their price to almost $70, so it was worth the time spent learning.
I've used an electric B & D trimmer for years. It's been a workhorse but I no longer am, and wanted to make my job easier. ruclips.net/user/postUgkx_rBCFuDW1zD6blTGhLkvAkxU657uR_lG Around the corners, the small side yard etc. was a pain to run the cord out to, so I bought this thinking I'd use it for touch-ups and hard to reach places. Well, I haven't used the corded one since! This is so light weight and so much easier. It has all the power I need because I start wearing down after about 20 minutes and I haven't run out of battery yet. It takes about two hours to charge. I've used it about twice a week for a month and still have line left too. My favorite feature is the blade inside the shield that keeps the line trim to where I don't even have to think about it. You can see from my pic that it's been heavily used and I probably should clean it more often. Very happy with it.
That's pretty cool. I definitely understand wanting to make life a little easier. I like my ego battery powered!
It’s a bit of a make do fix, the edge should be ground on these blades, as using a rotary grinder on these blades will leave low spots, making them worse than before you started..
Only costs a few £/$ to get it done properly, could have got 5/6 sharpenings for the cost of the tool
Probably so! But I like doing it myself just in case I can't get into a dealer during normal business hours! Thanks brother
One other question. I'm looking at the link to the Dremel and wondering if the 25 piece kit is good enough. They have so many different options.
It should be fine as long as it comes with the Dremel and the grinding stone. That's really the only two things that you'll need! Hope this helps!
Thanks for the tip
Yes sir. Glad it helped!
@@CleanCutLawnsNC I have the same mode Echo as you showed in the video. Going to pick up the cordless Dremel over the weekend and sharpen them blades.
