There needs to be more tutorials for this sort of rep. There are a lot of materclasses for Bartok, Hindemith and Walton but not so much for intermediate rep like this. Watching this makes me realise how much I'd want to do this too especially at the moment with lockdown

You’re so right! The intermediate rep is so looked down upon even though most professional violists had started there to get to their spots now! I wish more people could do this more!

​@@berribrohi Not just started there -- it's still important right up to professional level. It's a disservice to call it "intermediate" even though we first learn it as intermediate students. The notes may be easier to play than Walton or Bartok, but Hoffmeister is still hard to play well because it's so transparent, and needs to stay within the classical style. A lot of professional auditions call for "Stamitz or Hoffmeister" in addition to a 20th century concerto.
I'm just starting to work on Hoffmeister for the second time, after first learning it more than a decade ago. Coming back to it as a more mature violist, it feels almost like a new concerto even though I've played the notes before.

I agree with Jake, this is a valuable Masterclass. An opinion one year apart, time makes little difference. Build at this level to secure forward progress. Two aspects matter: good tuition and practice.
