The more I learn about these ladies, the more I find myself proud of them. Now, I have no right to being proud. I knew nothing of them or their struggles, I did not help them, I did nothing then - and know of nothing now I can do. So best I can analyze, I feel proud of them because they are women who showed how to be a WOMAN while dealing with tons of issues which sought to repress them. And that ladies and gentlemen, is a story as vibrant and relevant today as it has ever been. I see young women trying many different ways to get attention to their point of view in society. But none of them seem to be so amazing and beautiful as the ways THESE ladies chose to rise up and do it. Nor so impressive in its results. I don't know if they were trying to be role models but it would be very hard to find any woman, in any field of endeavor more deserving. I would like to see biographies on each of them made part of the curriculum for both boys and girls. Or at least, make those books available to be read.
And since I am dreaming, let's look a little wider and find the others out there in our history who likewise rose above seemingly unbeatable issues to make amazing contributions to society. Those stories are out there, and just not being shared with young people enough. We are not doing enough to offer our young people examples of what can be done in spite of obstacles.
Thank you to all of you who were part of the book and the movie "Hidden Figures". If ever it was a time to look to our heroes for inspiration, this is it. These ladies are now my heroes, thanks to you.

It's very important that this story was told. Amazing women regardless of color but during that time it was so horrible. I'm caucasian and in the south and I felt different from my parents and family which has put me as the *odd duck* but that's ok. This deserves to win Best Picture for the accomplishments and acting from casts superb. I'm so glad to see much more movies of diversity in the selection. We need this more and women more plus other ethnic groups that this president is trying to use his power for bigotry and so much more. We are all one people, we're all immigrants from somewhere, and we're all Americans- humans designed by God.

they weren't the only black women who worked as "human computers". The question is why did they reserve these jobs for black women? especially in an era with black people with college degrees working as janitors, butlers and such. From the 1940's at least until the late 1960's. strange. now all the hype for a movie brought out by the dominant society.

Most of these were white women. But yes black women were admitted and even welcomed. Women tend to do a good job and arent complaining, thats why.
