1987 Mazda 626 Coupé - walkaround and POV drive

  • A walkaround and short drive with my Mazda 626 2.0i GLX. This generation of the 626, known as the GC, was produced between 1982 and 1987, receiving a moderate facelift in 1985. Even though the car sold very well in Europe there are not many examples on the road left, certainly not cherished ones. A fate it unfortunately shares with many other Japanese classics and youngtimers.
Like most Japanese cars from the 80s it´s not a particularly exciting car to drive. But the build quality and attention to detail are remarkable. It offers a wonderfully effortless and smooth driving experience that makes it hard to believe this car came on the market 40 years ago. The 626 GC is a great example of the Japanese pursuit of perfection that became so apparent in the 80s, and that helped them establish the reputation for building high-quality cars that they still enjoy today.

@@aisrael13 I bought it some years ago in Holland when it had about 70.000 (real) kilometers on the clock, and I believe I paid around 6000 euros for it. Nowadays it might be worth a bit more, since prices for Japanese classics have finally gone up a tiny bit. Personally I think they are still undervalued though...

I own a Mazda 626 Sedan in Prestige Silver Metallic colour, 1990 model (2.2i Auto) ... bought brand new in Melbourne, Australia as a gift from my father for my 18th birthday. He paid $32,000 Australian dollars for it back then! It's now 32 years old, has done 500,000 kilometres (310,000 miles) and l continue to drive it daily. Has never failed me. Unbelievable car. I cannot part with it. My first and so far, only car ...!! It still looks like new and has always been outside for its entire 32 years, so far.
    People cant believe it!
p.s. Has the oscillating vents as well!!! Still work amazingly!
For people seeking Mazda parts ... there is a specialist Mazda Wrecker called 'ALLMAZ' in a Melbourne suburb called 'Clayton Sth'. They have a website .... and are the ultimate specialists in all makes and models of Mazdas, particularly older model 70s, 80s and 90s Mazdas ... they stock over 5 million Mazda parts!!!! They are phenomenal and a treasure to have in Melbourne!

We had that same generation mazda 626 in my country both the 2 door coupe and the 4 door sedan but the coupe came with digital instrument panel while the 4 door sedan had an analog instrument panel...
Then we had the ford telstar which is a twin to the mazda 626 carrying the same body parts but just a few cosmetic differences on the front and back, but the doors, suspension engine and transmission were the same design, but the 626 had a 1.6 cc engine while the telstar had a 2.0 cc engine but this particular car in the video its in mint condition looks like it just rolled out from the car factory its well kept 👍

@@ericcrama2221 Haha thanks man, sounds good. I'm trying to figure out how to get mine to idle and run better now. And then I need to replace the shifter bushings because they are completely shot. And then I need to fix the big water leak from the front door trim. And then replace the rear axle/spindles because someone hit a curb and bent them. Oh well, it's a cool car and I like fixing stuff. By the way, do you think a vacuum leak or bad vacuum lines could cause a poor idle?
