  • The Bodmin and Wenford Railway held their annual Spring Steam Gala over the first bank holiday weekend in May (3rd - 5th). A total of four locomotives were in action - including a former resident. Making a brief return was the Mid Hants Railway based SR Unrebuilt Westcountry No. 34007 'Wadebridge' - the oldest surviving example of Oliver Bulleid's Pacific. The loco was purchased from Barry Scrapyard in May 1981, initially by the Plym Valley Railway, before moving to Cornwall in the 1990s. Following major restoration, the Pacific made its preservation debut in October 2006, making several visits to other Heritage Railways before becoming a permanent resident at the Watercress Line several years later.
Joining 'Wadebridge' was GWR 6400 Pannier Tank No. 6435, LSWR Beattie Well Tank No. 3298 and LSWR T9 No. 30120.
    The line-up for the Gala:
    Visiting:
    - SR Unrebuilt Westcountry 4-6-2 No. 34007 'Wadebridge' (Mid Hants Railway)
    Resident:
    - GWR 6400 Pannier Tank 0-6-0T No. 6435
    - LSWR 0298 Beattie Well Tank 0-4-4WT No. 3298
    - LSWR T9 4-4-0 No. 30120
All scenes were captured on Sunday 4th May 2014.

They produce some superb soundtracks, as do all steam locomotives! Thank you for your comments.

Thanks. It was a great event, so much so that I might pop back at a later date. 34007 sounded very nice, especially up the banks to Bodmin General.

In reality, 'Wadebridge' doesn't belong on this line at all. It and Wadebridge station were part of the Southern Railway. What happened to my old friend 4612, long time resident of the line? Heritage lines are so clean they make a model look more realistic.

Thanks for the comment Dave. 4612 is still in service on the Railway, and it was a brilliant day out, especially to see Wadebridge at her original home in Preservation!

Good video, enjoyed the front window action behind 34007, really working her out on that line, never heard a Spam can sound like it's working that hard before... agree with the guy at the end 'working well going up there!' haha, liked the peacefulness of 3298 arriving into Bodmin too.

Thanks for commenting. It was nice to hear a Spam Cam tackle the 1in37 gradients, real challenge with a load of 5! It was nice to see 3298 for the first time as well.

I love Wadebrdge it's very loud and sounds nice those hills, but it looks quite strange with a merchant navy tender but good video I do feel lucky I live near the MHR.

Thanks for commenting Jake. Was rather nice to see Wadebridge away from the Mid Hants for once.
