This is better than anything they are teaching in schools these days!!
You are Queen, Abby! This is how I see true, genuine, simple and wild American culture. Look at you guys, you are so talented and inspiring, this is amazing. I hope you are happy with your life now.
I love their band and she is my absolute favorite. They're all amazing I really like the voice on the singer too. "Angels in heaven gonna know my name". I love that one .
Abby instantly seems so likable and intelligent. So genuine. Such a lovely human to watch. Thank you for your amazing energy, Abby.
God bless you 💚 you're such a beautiful spirited lady💚 May God continue to keep you safe and bless you many times over!🤗
Well done - great job. I've heard Abby play over the last few years because I watched her on RUclips videos but I didn't know anything about her story. Thanks for creating this.

3:02 is he the guy who played Frank (Phoebe's brother) in Friends ?
I mean, I've seen people make rythms with spoons before. But Abby makes music. I absolutely love it. Thanks for contributing with your art Abby.

I love Abby, she's real and amazing. She makes rich celebrities look lame!! Wonderful Lady with much class and talent. God bless this sweet lady!! 🙋♥️✝️🇺🇲
Dear Abby, you and the guys are truly the salt of the Earth. The 3 of you bring rays of sunshine to an otherwise cold hard world, and that is priceless!
And we're so lucky to have them here.
I am glad Abby is living her life her way. I love that she is unpretentious and humble.
People with good educations and family backing fail everyday. Abby is happy and successful with a pair of spoons. An American treasure.

Is she she has four kids she walked away from to play spoons
Roger Tayfel really how do you know
@@rogert5360 , how do you know she has four kids that she walked away from? The documentary didn't mention that (unless I missed it).
@Joe Tell em brother some of these shitbags are FOREIGNERS NOT EVEN BORN HERE!.
Aside from obviously being talented, this is an intelligent, articulate lady. she's bound to help make good changes for everyone.
I only see a person destroyed by drugs ...
Be specific.
Some of y'all sound terrible, she's turned her life around, and is doing better , Y'all don't known her story .

How do you know? She never said a thing about drugs?
You must feel guilty!

You’re an idiot! She never said she sinned! That’s YOU!!!
I admire you Abby, for being real. There's nothing fake about you.
Keep on playing spoons and blessing the world.
She should really lay off the crack.
Crack doesn’t rot your mouth like that, that would be meth, hence the moniker meth mouth…SMH
If there's one person on the planet who personifies "what you see is what you get', then that has to be Abby, moreover, she has the guts to put herself out there. Damn, I wish I had some "Abby" in me...
@@SuperThad1 @Janice Coleman she looks healthy and as if she hasn't used for years. If only your simple mind could imagine the horrors one might have to endure to turn towards such coping mechanisms.
As a percussionist, her timing is amazing.
And she's super relaxed doing it. She's so unassuming and yet so talented. Love that realness. She's herself. And she's amazing!
Glad she found her place in the world. We needed her to be here in this place and time. God bless you Abby.
I love that she's keeping a dying art alive. Your the best crazy spoon lady

Shes so adorable and humble! Spoon on lady! You're an inspiration!

I fell in love with this band when I saw Abby and Chris Rodrigues playing Angels in Heaven. This video of Abby talking about her life just added an amazing back story and I have so much respect for her and her ability to make people happy. I have an elderly Uncle from Missouri who played the spoons and the banjo, sadly those skills will probably die with him. Rock on y'all!
If you actually felt sad those skills "will probably die" with your uncle then you would be learning those skills for yourself.
Why don't you have your uncle teach you the skills?
Tyler Dan Shut up, not everyone has rhythm for all u know he’s spreading the word though
Me too. It definitely rivals Tom Waits version of Angels In Heaven. I absolutely love it
Check out Artis the Spoon Man. Hes the original from Seattle. If I am not mistaken I believe Sound Garden's "Spoon Man" was written about him
Sweetheart you came into yourself and now just look at you and the beauty you've brought to the world.
She is a national treasure and must be preserved at all costs.
I don’t think people realize what amazing musicians they are.. absolutely incredible
Why wouldn’t “people” realize this? We know. We have ears.
I don’t think you realize how much you want a cookie 🍪

Philadelphia senior citizen here. Love what you are doing and what you have to say. It brightens my day knowing there are people like you out there. Peace and prosperity to you and yours.
She’s just so cool and authentic.
“I picked up spoons because I was hungry.” My senior quote
I can really respect that. "I felt my life was over, but really, it was just beginning"
I felt it
I used to see her in Nashville! She was just so natural playing and could play while she held a conversation- really something to see & hear
You must have loved running into her and the guys. She's kinda special. So are they. You are too, for appreciating them.
People can be judgmental and rude about things that they know don't really matter but there are only 2 reasons for that, social pressure & insecurity. You're a very strong & lucky person if you don't feel bound by either of those. Beautiful lady Abby, Your talent & your heart shine.
You are ab-solutely right...😂
Never give up on life. You NEVER know when your life might turn around and it could be the greatest thing that's ever happened to you. It might not seem like that at the time of all hopelessness, but it's true. Never give up.

This is a dying trade plz keep it going
This was never a "thriving" trade lmao
Always thought spoons were for someone who wanted to wanted to be in a band bit couldn't play anything, then I found Abby and and she slapped my opinion out of me in a godlike manner
Miss Abbie, you are a treasure. You're talent lifts the spirit and your rhythm makes even a shy person like me wanna get up and dance.
You, coffeecat 7, may not be in a position to scatter happiness in the same way as Miss Abby, but you, too, are a treasure. Don't let anyone tell you different.
I hope to see you all one day.. no matter if it is a bar, the streets of Asheville, or in my kid's school cafeteria. You all are a treasure and I love the music you all put out. It wouldn't be the same without the spoons!
This woman is so full of vitality for life and living
Fell into a career while being in essence, a hobo. Almost sounds like a story from the Depression.
As far as buskers go, I think they add to the culture of a city. My wife and I lived near Savannah Georgia and we would go down to River Street just to check out all the street artists and musicians. It's a tradition that the city embraces.
When people talk about capitalism, I really do think about tiny enterprises, buskers, delivery guys, freelancers of all sorts. I think it's very important for people to be able to support themselves in the thousands of diverse ways they think up. Government always wants to destroy the little guy and promote the huge corporation.
Oh, yes, I can't wait to get back into my farmer jeans! I lived next door to a family that had a good portion of their land set aside for a large garden. That was my first experience to having freshly grown carrots, corn, zucchini, strawberries, asparagus, etc.. I love watching food grow. You plant a tiny recycled seed and you get -- stuff!
I grew up in Ottawa Canada.
We have a festival every year called "the Busker Festival" bank street and sparks street would fill with musicians from all over the world.
Jonny Cash played on the street once. Back in the 80s
It's one of the things I miss most about my home town
@@ryanmcewen415 I live in the City, now, but, I grew up in Town right next to here. We have a music festival every August and we have another music festival in which name bands play on the weekends all summer long. I like to push the arts. Arts is where the money is, as far as I am concerned. Maybe your Town/City needs more local pubs. Music is fun!
@@SharonCreamer671956 I live out in the country now.
No buskers because they go to the city!
I honestly wouldn't trade country living for buskers for all the money in the world.
I like my peace and quiet.
Buskers belong in cities.
Real people making real music doing real things. I like it.
During WW II my father learned to play spoons, jug, squeeze box, along with flat footing on ship. All his life he tried to find Dag Campbell from South Carolina, the man that taught him.
That's a lovely story.☺ You should write it down sometime.
Abby's are not a dime a dozen,,, wish there were millions of people like her that are just REAL and honest. Ty Abby
So glad to see that you have yourself a car and a place to live. God bless you spoon lady you did good!

Abby,
You are Soooooooo talented that the world needs to see you for who you are!!
I love music, however my love is 70’s through 90’s rock. As I get older the talents of peeps like you make me open up to other possibilities.
Thank you for being you!!!!!!!
Gotta love when you see someone doing what they love. It's been probably 30 years since I've seen someone play spoons in person, I'd forgotten how elegant it is.
You're right, Abby. You're life was just starting. May God bless you and your talents! Glad I found this video!
Abby is a highly impressive lady who has mad, mad skills playing the spoons. The first time I heard her play on a RUclips video I was blown away! I love her and her fellow musicians and I truly wish her well. Keep playing the spoons, Abby! You have talent. Please keep sharing your gift. 😊❤
The complete joy that fills her entire being as she plays is absolutely beautiful.

Expand the damn sidewalks people! It just amazes me how frightening culture is to people. Go ABBY my new hero 🦸♀️
I love how they mention being “unemployable”. I too am unemployable which is why I own my business. 😂
yes, I think their interpretation of unemployable is more down voluntary participation....
That struck a chord w/me, as well. I dnt hear too many people sayn that about themselves. Realizing it, admitting it, or evn knowing wut that can truely be like. But I've accepted it about myself, only recently. Over maybe the last year or two, which I have spent unemployed. I'm now currently searching for my "spoons", in life.

Its a beautiful place!
I loved Asheville when I visited my aunt and dad there 45 years ago. I remember my dad and I walking around downtown and uptown because you were always going up a hill or down. My aunt lived on Hillside street and it was aptly named. Would love to go back.
It's a gross place
Louie Allen In what way ?
I just returned to northen Ontario Canada from a motorcylce trip through the usa. Unfortunatley ashville is indeed a sketchy place. With the crazy amount of locals congregating at fhe gas ststions and stores. Its was the first place that we watched ekach others bike while going into pay for gas. Groups of what i could only describe as, definatley unemployable folks flooded these areas throughout the city. Had uncomfortable feeling in most areas. And left sad that i saw no sign of Abby.
