Merry Christmas from a Swedish American. I love lutefisk and so does my Mom.Thank you for the video, and mentioning Ingebretsons in Minnesota. I grew up about an hour away.
I inherited my great grandmother's spinning wheel. The foot pedal was repaired with the lid of a herring box!
I'm sure Molly Yeh made a version on one of her "Girl Meets Farm"" episodes, she has definitely made Lefse. I love learning about Norwegian cuisine from Arne and Carlos and am amazed at how much I have picked up from them. Thanks Arne and Carlos.
I love that Arne has his knitting with him in the kitchen! Thanks for the window into your world.
Arne really isn't interested in cooking. Kudos to you Carlos for trying to get him on board. You two are delightful.

My Grandfather came to Minneapolis from Bergen as a young man and we always had lutefisk when he was alive. He ate it the way Arne likes it. Perhaps we should try making it again. Merry Christmas! Enjoy you so much.
You should!
We came from Minneapolis to California, so when my mother found, at the store, this wooden box with heavily salted codfish inside, she was very excited. I remember she soaked it a little while and then can't really remember what she did with it, but I remember we had potatoes, and the next day, she made mashed potato mixed with the leftover lutfisk and fried in a pan.. she called them potato patties.
I love it all. You really made some beautiful dishes for us to get to know you better. Perhaps, someday, you'll show us how you make that pancake. It looks wonderful. Hope you enjoyed your great meals.
My parents from Minneapolis used to winter in Palm Springs, where once a month the Gopher Club had a Scandinavian buffet with lutefisk and other traditional dishes at the Elks Club.
I cannot have enough of you. You both are a joy for me. I watch you until I sleep my husband take my spectacle off and put aside my phone. Day after he told me two men were talking. I laugh and told him that I love watching their videos.
😂
You are both "a natural" in the kitchen !! Thanks for sharing another Xmas tradition from your part of the wold.
Never eaten this but I do love fish, so I might! Peas and potatoes, yummy! Love the sweaters and Arne is so cute and funny! You guys are great. I love watching your videos!!
Coming from Trinidad in the Caribbean, we also have a salted cod dish we make often on Sundays and usually at Christmas called Buljol. The cod is soaked to remove the salt, shredded and prepared with chopped tomatoes, onion, oil and hot peppers and eaten on a type of bread. Some people cook it and this looks like a great way to try it. Also, LOVE the heart shaped pot!
You two looked great in those knitted sweaters. You made me laugh,not wanting to touch that fish. The peas potatoes make that fish dish delivery delicious. Thanks for explaining the dish to us. You are both so lovely. Merry Christmas God bless you both
What a great video thank you 😊 you guys make my day I love these family videos 😍
I come from a Norweign family and remember very well all the women in the family bustling around in the kitchen making lutefisk and lefse!
I could never get past the smell of the lutefisk but lefse... i love, love,love!,, put a like butter and sugar wrapped in them which we still eat today! Enjoy!
We tried this and my family liked it-my son said it was the best lutefisk he had ever had. It pays to have friends teach you who know what they are doing!
That is so nice to hear!
I was watching RUclips to keep me company in the kitchen. I came along your video and I was so surprised... because I was making Lefse.

Yes it is like viscous if not done properly.
Dear Carlos, You are the Artist in the Kitchen and Arne, seems to be more comfy eating 🍽 and a fiber master!
Joining forces You both are a wonderful combination!
Mmm that bacon sounds good with the fish and pea stew! I’d like to try that.
Wow~
~~~~ good at designing knit and cooking well.
What can't you do?
This Christmas imitated by this recipe.
I'm going to decorate it to be happy.
I always admire the various tips that make me happy.^^thanks ARNE & CARLOS
👍👍👍
Loved the cooking video, Carlos. You are the best cook I've ever seen. Arnne, you we're so cute. Love you both. MERRY CHRISTMAS.
I remember watching my Grandma make Lutefisk, the rosette cookies and the filled cones. I have manged to find myself two sets of rosette irons with different patterns on each, at an antique store, but haven't found the equipment for the cones. I'll keep looking, though. Thank you for sharing your celebration with us. PS just got your book, (delivered Friday night) Norwegian Knits with a Twist and am drooling over all the projects. I can't decide what to make first. May your holiday season be joyous and full of love. Shelly
I always wondered what that was. Amazing! Thanks for sharing! Merry Christmas!
Hi my favorite men.....I am not a lover of fish but loved watching you both can't wait till next week desert s yum yum bless you both Dolly
Thank you for watching Teresa!
As always, you both make me laugh. Enjoy!
I love you both❤️. You compliment each other so well, Arne is the cutest ever when he laughs!
Lutefisk is a frequent punchline of Minnesota jotes. Often available here at brunches and church basement fellowships along with "hot dishes" and jello salads, also often mentioned in Minnesota jokes.
Yes, we've heard a few of the jokes while in Minnesota... Funny!
Both ways of serving the lutefisk look delicious! Arne, I'm with you on the butter....only the real deal in my house! The table setting was lovely with Carlos' grandma's embroidery and the Christmas balls. It was a fun video to watch.
Thanks for sharing. I am so hungry now!
Thanks for sharing your traditional meals with us. Carlos your hair is so nice and healthy.
Arne your giggles are contagious makes me smile keep being you. BrambleKnits 🇨🇦
Looks great to me. I’ve never had lutefisk but I’d certainly love to try it.
hi guys I love your meal my mother made this meal for us when we were children it brought back memories I could almost smell and taste it thanks for the podcast I can hardly wait for next week see you then
Another wonderful joy filled video. Thanks for putting a smile on my face. I must confess don't believe I will attempt to cook the fish but if I am ever offered some I might give it a try.
I love your videos, they are very relaxing especially your outdoor videos. Your tutorial have made my knitting fun and stress free. Thank you.
My husband’s Swedish family made this Lutefisk when he was younger. I really enjoyed watching the process and options for serving.
Thank you for watching Vicki! Will you try making it for your husband?
You two are the best! 💕💕💕 happy holidays! 🎄 always enjoy ALL of your videos.
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU BOTH!!! THANKS FOR SHARING LOVE ALL YOUR VIDEOS
I have never heard of that kind of fish but it looks delicious and I would give it a try.
Again, just the pattern on the dishes show, you are designers. Looks like a undone and redone Delfter pattern, blown up into bigger details!
Love your cooking shows!
I just love these guys
Thank you!
I really enjoy seeing you both in the kitchen, thanks for this glimpse into your home.
Merry Christmas from Florida!
Arne that reminds me of a soft fish taco! Carlos as usual is impeccable in everything he does. This was a very informative episode. Can’t wait to see the dessert segment. Two thumbs up!!!
Loved this!
Looks yummy either way. Thanks
I grew up just south of Minnesota, so all I ever heard were horror stories about the "jello" lutefisk. I'm SO glad to hear that it doesn't have to be that way! I love fish, and now you've encouraged me to go find some. Love the sweaters; and Arne - I totally enjoy your laughter!
Once again this is so enjoyable. Not a fish , but I love the interaction between you two and how you complement each others skills/humor. Arne today you reminded me of a darling little mischievous elf. Looking forward to the dessert preparation.
Loved the cooking lesson😘❄️🇨🇦🎄
I've been looking forward to this all week , thank you ! It does look good, especially with the potatoes and bacon . Dec 23rd is my birthday so this year I will be thinking of you both as you wrap and enjoy this meal ! Looking forward to next week, enjoy !
Love you guys! I bet it is delicious!
Really enjoyed this video! Thanks for sharing.
You are welcome!
Hi Arne & Carlos, that looks good, love your tradition. Here in Canada, on Christmas eve we eat after the midnight mass, meat pie, ham, cold porc roast and many other foods, not all Canadians celebrate that way. I love to hear traditions from other countries. I am looking forward for next Sunday, for the desert recipe. Have a great week. Hugs. Francine
I love watching you two in the kitchen! 😍
Arne reminds me of my husband who is also not big on cooking. He is also the one who passes things and puts them away while I cook. You make a good team!
Lutfisk is good. We have it in Sweden too but with a white sause. Looks delicious. Have never tried it the Arne way but it looks good. I will try that. I use to bake bread which resembles of lefse. 15:45 Arne is happy. You are so nice both of you.
I’m digging those sweaters ! As always , entertaining and informative video ! Happy Holidays !
I’ve never had the nerve to try lutefisk even though my best friend served it for those who indulged
every Christmas. She is gone now and just because of you and in her memory I will give it a go. Thank you for bringing me closer to her with this video. Merry Christmas. ☮️
Wow!! That was wonderful. Being German-American I have heard of Lefsa and Ludifisk!! Always wondered how it was made. Thank you for sharing. 😊
Hi Arne and Carlos. Arne so funny today. Carlos, what more could you ask for in your "Personal Assistant". Arne can do the dishes, clean, set the table and "knit" all done with a smile. A Multi-tasker :-) Love you both. I like fish but sorry not too keen on the look of this fish. Like all other ingredients though.
Mary Wilson Absolutely the best sous chef I could possibly ask for!!! 👨🍳 👨🍳
Thanks for the speedy reply. "Yes " ABSOLUTELY"
Yummy! Thanks for cooking for us. I bet the house smelled divine. Lutefisk and lefse were staples in my Mum's family, and as you can imagine the house smelled of lye fish for a month. I mostly just filled up on the lefse. 😍 A few years ago I was cooking the lefse on the griddle, remembering my Mum and all the fun we used to have making those potato flatbreads. Makes the heart grow 2 sizes. 💗
Once again, thank you for sharing these life moments with us all, and it was nice to hear Freja's interjections too. 🐶 Happy Holidays to you and yours! 🎄❣️
Wonderful video. Can’t wait to see your 2019 Christmas shows. Arne, you are priceless. Love your humour. Carlos, you are very talented in the kitchen. Love Arne sneaking in his knitting 😹😹😹😹😹
I'm a bit of a wimp when trying strange things, I have memories as a child of a Scottish dish that would make me run outside to play for hours. However I am going to make the Lamb with cabbage for Christmas eve. Thank you for sharing your time and traditions, I love it. A warm video can be better than a Dram.
I have never heard of it but I’m very intrigued. I love fish. Happy to spend the second of advent with you tho
I love you two! You’re both adorable☺️
Thank you both for sharing your meal. I would try all of your dishes if I could. Have a very happy and merry Christmas.🎄❤️Sally🇺🇸
You could do the same meal, but replace lutefisk with another white fish, like fresh cod - also prepared in the oven, but not baked for 45 minutes
Have been loving watching your videos and I grew up with the Lutefisk my mothers Lutheran church (Vashon Island near Seattle) made. Also LOVE making homemade potato Lefse which we allow to dry and then we mist with some water and when soft we spread with butter and sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon which we roll up cut and eat.
Lovely episode, thank you! Lutefisk is eaten in different ways and with different condiments in the different parts of Norway. I was born in Dovre, and we ate lutefisk like Arne does, with lefse, butter, salt and pepper. I now live in Trøndelag, and here they eat it like Carlos, with potatoes, pea-stew and bacon. Some even put syrup on their lutefisk!
I always make the mustardsauce, and I make the pea-stew in a different way, but it is always delicious!
Merry christmas boys!
Carlos, it looked delish but don't think I'll be making it anytime soon ;) love your kitchen and its red pots & accents -- AND we have the same butter dish!!
Love knitting in the afternoons and listening to you both.
Merry Christmas Carlos & Arne!Love your video!
I loved this video, and the previous Christmas Advent video! I wondered what lutefisk was, I hope I can try it out sometime. I also loved the tinsel video since my husband loves putting tinsel on the tree but I'm ambivalent towards it. I'm sure knitting it myself will change my opinion. I hope I can make this dish, and look forward to watching the next couple weeks of videos. Thanks for sharing your traditions!
I just made the Pea Stew for my family's Christmas dinner. It was a great hit! Everyone loved it. I think it will become a regular side dish from now on. Merry Christmas!
Thanks Happy second day of advent🕯❤️🇳🇴God Jul 🇳🇴❤️🕯
